A/N: Accidentally went with a slight oneshot but, hopefully this has what the request is looking for.

Insomnia won another night as Leo gave up trying to stick to a normal sleep schedule. Now scrolling on his phone bored from the lack of funny videos on youtube. And decided to try and organize the photos he saved on his device. Until he found a few photos of you two together.

Going backward from the most recent picture and then eventually. Seeing the first photo of you with him.

You weren't really one for photos so... Your face had a bit of trying to smile like what you usually do at awkward family gatherings. But, still had fun around this self confident red slider turtle.

A digital memento of the white lie of

His focus now taking mental notes at the later pictures where.

You felt comfortable enough to speak up about your personal space and sometimes not in the mood for a hug. Which he, Raph, and Mikey are guilty of giving surprise affection and very much took the issue in a serious manner.

While Donnie recorded the said video as the softshell turtle snickered at his brother's obvious sign of a crush. Leo gave a light glare at his brother until seeing the sweetest smile on your face. The video ending just as the blush deepen close to spreading acrossing his light blue mask.

He remembered how Donnie immediately went with a dating survey. The what type of person you date icebreaker. And a bit of payback of Leo stealing the second slice of your birthday cake.

"Totally not taking notes for your potential future spouse."

Leo facepalmed how much he had to hide any bit of jealousy to avoid ruining your special day. But, it stung hearing you laugh at Donnie's idea and going along with it. Thinking of it as a fun what if game.

Since you almost give the same attention to him. His snarky attitude is rarely at you with how often you're never bored by his routine techno babble. Along with how much patience you have. Dealing with two turtles who deny having some ego problems.

Leo lazily put his phone away on top of his bed.

With a slow sigh to relax his nerves, he replaces his sleep mask with a fresh light blue mask and stood up to wear a dull blue hoodie.

Eddie routinely takes an after lunch nap every Sunday when the Post Office is closed.

It's such a habit now that he always gets quite sleepy after lunch anytime of the week. But he only naps on Sundays. It's unprofessional to sleep on the job ya know. /lh /silly

Putting under a cut because it got suuuper long, I hope not TOO long dfjhsddsjfhhsd. Everything is Mello/Near unless otherwise stated.

I'm going to start with the WIPs we're not gonna have much to say about publicly. They're basically... two full AUs, each set in the same base universe and within similar conditions, except the Mello/Near dynamic plays out differently in each, because there's a couple major differences which butterfly-effect the characters and how their stories play out:

to escape an empire has a main fic (of seven chapters + an epilogue) and two sequels (one of which is so self-indulgent I don't know if it'll see the light of AO3) in the works. The main fic is almost fully drafted and already partially beta'd (which, I'm not @-ing our beta directly in this longass post but HEARTFELT THANK YOU FOR HELPING US MIDWIFE OUR FIC INTO THE WORLD SO SKILLFULLY)

and throw me into life (a lot less developed because we're keeping it on the backburner for after empire, for reasons of "the universe is similar but the characterisation is so different and we don't want to accidentally get mixed up").

We don't talk about either much in public -- because we're 100% sure nobody has written the concept before, but we write slowly and we'd be sad if someone else got to doing something with that idea before us sdhfjgsdhf. (That said, we did post a couple of excerpts from one of the sequels to empire: here and here!)

And then in our series sweet atonement (in which Near acquires an introject of Mello as a coping mechanism for the grief brought upon him by Mello's death, and then we make the two of them interact in various ways; it's self-indulgent plurality/multiplicity fiction as much as it is Death Note fanfic) -- we've already published six fics, but we have many ideas for more, including in no particular order:

at least one POV from (some of) the folks who work with Near, pre- and post-introject!Mello

exploring how Near and introject!Mello learn how to work together and/or sometimes clash (this spans several WIPs actually, one of which we expanded on a little here)

exploring Near's grief and depression and burnout and such (because the emotional injury he sustained when Mello died does NOT magically disappear just because he has (a) Mello back, and on top of that, being L on his own is incredibly taxing for him)

exploring introject!Mello's grief and assimilated emotions (non-exhaustive list: he remembers what dying was like; Matt is still dead; Near is really not doing well which affects Mello in multiple ways)

at least one other PWP

a conclusion-ish piece of what their cooperation looks like when it's fully established (like a decade or two after introject!Mello first shows up)

and possibly more that are just embryos of ideas in our Discord channels!!

Not bothering with the working titles here because when we work on WIPs in this universe, we often end up combining them or splitting the ideas into different works for pacing/focus reasons -- it's very fluid, we haven't planned anything ahead like we did with empire. It's just a collection of whichever moments we feel most like writing at the time.

Originally we'd planned on keeping this universe for after we'd finished empire, but it didn't turn out that way -- both because empire got so much longer than we expected it to be (we'd planned for about 10,000 words, it's at nearly 35,000 sequels included and will probably keep growing...) and the editing process is also taking longer than anticipated; and because sweet atonement keeps grabbing us by the throat at semi-random and we've learned to ride those waves when they happen.

We're also in the process of fleshing out some of the Matt/Mello/Near drabbles we wrote for DN Rarepair Week into longer pieces!! Toying with the Matt/Near of #2 - Absence currently :3

And then we have some tiny WIPs that are basically just... bits and pieces. Scenes that could maybe be reabsorbed into other works, single paragraphs or lines, concepts and ideas, bits we cut out of one fic but might reuse in another, etc.

Okay, so Carlos' ranger uniform has been growing on me, I'm sorry @ladytessa74 🤣. I think it was the initial shock of seeing it all with the hat, and the white of the hat and dress shirt, and the angle they chose to show us for the first time! Plus, May's art has been showing me all the ways that cowboy hat can be used and I love it!! I need to see Carlos holding TK close by the back of the head and kissing him with the hat!! And I get the two belts are for his pants and the other is for his gun holster, so now it makes a bit more sense to me. I still miss the utility belt though and the way his hips would sway 🫠 but so long as Carlos still has a hot, commanding walk as a Ranger, that's fine with me then!

Oh they are absolutely getting married, Lemon! There's no way they're not with those wedding bts that got quickly taken down, the fact that Charles is going to make a cameo in some form, unless that has to do with Tommy being sick and having coma dreams of him 🤔. And that season synopsis that said Tommy's life would be changing! Plus the fact that they both talked about getting married again at the end of Tarlos' wedding! Oh but I would also like to go on record saying that if Tommy's or whoever it is that's having that wedding, is longer than Tarlos' and we get to see more of that, you will find me on the Fox lot, totally not planning/doing anything illegal 🙃

Sorry for not having been too active recently - by the middle of august I started an internship at a kitchen two days a week so that together with having my mother visit, the gig redraws +stickers, a zine project piece and just life in general have kept me occupied

And then there are days like today where I have been wanted pretty much nothing more than sleep and to read 😅🤣
