To the Root: Jounouchi/Kaiba

Inspired by the @fluffbruary : Extended Edition/Infinifluff 2024 Prompt List for November 14 : cuddle | happy | spell. A silly little thing written in less than 30 minutes. I had the quote "To heal you have to get to the root of the wound and kiss it all the way up" by Rupi Kaur in mind.

“Nice to me-eet yo-u,” Jounouchi sounded out the phrase from the guidebook resting on his lap. He paused, struggling with the next sentence.

“Spell it out,” Kaiba suggested from his seat beside him on the couch. Jounouchi did as instructed.

“Near-est - where is the nearest bank?” He stumbled over the word but managed to coherently read the sentence. It was enough to earn an approving nod from Kaiba who leaned forward to point to the next sentence he wanted Jounouchi to attempt.

“What other languages do you know?” Jounouchi asked looking up at him.

“Fluently? Three. German, Spanish, and Mandarin,” he answered. “I’m working on Hindi.”

Jounouchi whistled, impressed.

“Gozaburo made sure I could communicate with all of his business partners,” he explained. “Mandarin was the most difficult to master.”

“No kidding, you were just a child,” Jounouchi mused.

“Children are capable of extraordinary things when pushed,” he said, gaze growing distant.

“Yeah, you’re exhibit A,” the blonde quipped. “Something tells me your adoptive father’s idea of pushing was not an encouraging smile.”

Kaiba chuckled drily, nodding. “That’s when I definitely knew I’d done something wrong.”

“I’ve got an idea,” Jounouchi began, scooting closer to his lover. “How about I help you with your Hindi?” Then his expression turned mischievous. “And for every attempt you get a kiss, anywhere I desire?”

“Sounds like you just want to get me in bed?” Kaiba remarked.

“Who said we can’t do both?” he asked. “I’d love to encourage you along,” he added stroking Kaiba’s chest as they cuddled.

“So long as the same applies for your English,” he prefaced, before pulling the other in for a warm kiss.

“Agreed,” the blonde replied with a happy grin as he reached for the Japanese to Hindi workbook.

“Repositioning himself in Kaiba’s arms, he opened it up to the earmarked page. “How do you ask for the nearest restaurant?”

Kaiba answered, stumbling only once.

With an eager smile, Jounouchi put the book aside and leaned forward to place a kiss on the CEO’s jawline.

“We’ll hardly make progress this way,” Kaiba protested weakly.

“There’s always tomorrow,” Jounouchi replied, retrieving the book. “You need this just as much.”

With a small smile, Kaiba conceded as Jounouchi read out the next instructions.

[10:41PM 07222024] kamusta na nga ba ko? recently di rin ako okay, alam yan ng ilan sa mutuals/friends ko dito na nakaka chikahan ko sa personal message like puro shit post sa fb, puro wins and happy memories sa ig/fb stories. idk pero yun ata talaga yung isa sa personality ko na if nakilala ako ng tao na strong ako, ayoko na mabago yun. ayoko na maiba yon kahit valid naman na maging mahina minsan o umiyak minsan.

graduating student ako, ended my last semester in PUP-OUS with flat 1 na GWA. happy ako sobra kasi i feel like lahat ng hirap and pagod ko ng apat na taon unti-unti ng nagpe-paid off like for real, after 12 freaking years finally totoo na 'to na masasabi ko na graduating na ko. aside from that, some saw my story rin na nakapag pa picture na kami for graduation with my friends. apparently, ayoko pa rin i-post not until makuha ko na yung list of names ng graduates. so far, masaya ako no jokes when it comes to academic kasi masasabi ko na finally talaga this is it, pwedeng pwede na mag retire mommy ko.

gumaan din yung dalahin ko recently sa mga relationship ko with friends. natuto ako na makipag communicate about sa nararamdaman ko sa friendship na meron ako sa mga tao na yon. i feel like masakit din sa part ko na magsabi ng mga words knowing na we experienced different traumas in life and i really appreciate them on how they accept my side, pano nila ko pinakinggan and pano nila pina feel sa akin valid din yung nararamdaman ko. this is the friendship na masasabi ko na di ko kailangan pumili. na di ko kailangan na umiwas. di ko kailangan may i-give-up nalang bigla. kasi for sure, sobrang deserve nila yung friendship na meron kami sa isa't isa. maybe some di maiintindihan but if you will listen lang sa lahat ng sides, sobrang gaan sa pakiramdam na para kang binunutan ng tinik sa dibdib.

on the other hand, i know health is wealth and just like before i humbly ask for you prayers na sana monitoring nalang ako annually and di na every six months kasi ang hirap, the anxiety and pressure di mo maiiwasan. aside from that, medyo mabigat siya financially like 20k and above yung kailangan kong i-raise every monitoring not included the follow up check-up fee and medicines kahit na sobrang mura ng maintenance ko for unemployed like me mabigat na rin siya.

finally, natapos ko na rin yung dapat kong gawin sa business ko kanina sa BIR babalikan ko nalang din yung receipt after 2 weeks. all i need to do is focus sa rebranding para mas organize yung shops and hopefully before the pasukan [kasi malapit lang kami sa school] maayos ko na rin yung area ko para sa small business ko.

above all, i am grateful to my strong support system, na hindi ako iniwan from my family to nikko to my friends. despite all the highs and lows since april 2023, they stayed and supported me throughout my ptc journey. sabi ng iba, arte nalang 'to. but for me it's a no. kasi hindi niyo alam pinagdaanan ko from my check-up, pre-op, post-op, till now. that's why i don't mind if my circle is small, as long as masaya ako with them, they respect, love, and understand me okay na ko na sila sila nalang.

a/n: i love this song so much it's a Hindi/Bollywood song (back when Bollywood made actually good songs) and i listened to this so much and there's so much symbolism in it that i had to write something angsty :) anyway! i also have exams coming up in like a week so this might be the last fic i post for a while. enjoy!

you heard the gunshot far before you felt it; the final bell. you wondered if all the authors of the books you'd read as a cadet - the ones where the main character gets tragically shot or stabbed only to be healed again inexplicably - had ever been here before. had ever felt death like this, face to face.

death, shockingly, didn't grin menacingly at you like you thought it would. it didn't look over you (not any less than it already had been since the moment you'd joined the scouts), making you feel small and guilty and regretful.

this death; the one you faced with your eyes blown wide and a diminishing heartbeat, felt more like an embrace. in a flash, you caught dark brown eyes and a freckled face looking at you with the same look you've seen a hundred times before. in a flash, a picture of a brown haired girl with her mouth opened wide as if she were about to say something came before you.

it went away before you could grasp it.

but the pain, the blinding hot sensation aimed right at your heart, felt like it would last for eternity. the shape the bullet had cut out might have been a small fracture but it felt like the widest puncture, straight through the organs you had memorized the names of during your cadet days. the inside of your body lined itself up with flames even if you weren't on fire.

is this how sasha felt? her forever smiling face and warm touches did not deserve this pain, you thought. then again, none of your friends did.

in a foolish way, you were glad it was you and none of the others that were left. they were far too important for that. they would have much more of an impact than you would.

the blood dyed your shirt and in a moment of desperation, your hands clambered up to your chest to stop the wound from bleeding out. it was stupid to think that your feeble hands could help this, but you had to try.

you shuddered out a breath, your vision was getting cloudy. you didn't know how you were still standing up-right. you couldn't feel your legs or the way your knees stumbled or the way your hands shook fervently. spots appeared in the corner of your eyes as you looked around, trying to say something.

what would you say? what could you say?

when you've been running away from death for so long, who were you to stop fate with simple words or even desperate pleadings?

your ears were ringing but you could still hear the shouts; your friends scattered across the port as the workers busied themselves trying to weld the fuel tank shut. floch was in a worse condition than you and you wondered if he was still speaking, even after all of this. you wondered if anyone was looking, if anyone noticed your state. even if they did, the sounds of the terrifying footsteps and the tremble of the ground kept them busy.

you whispered out "jean" the best you could without your soul giving out completely, your staggering voice getting lost with the shaking of the earth. barely feeling your knees buckle, you decided this was it.

you would give victory to the death that had chased you for a long time. the death that you pushed aside that day the walls fell, the death that you swung past the day you saved jean and armin from their own fate. countless times, you had fought the cold touch without even realising it's icy breath.

maybe the worst part was that you were still hoping. you had already strapped in your ODM gear like you had done so many times before, hoping this one would be the last time you'd have to resort to violence. you could almost laugh at that thought if it hadn't hurt so much to breathe. you were so fully prepared to fight, to resolve, to hope for better days ahead after all of this. maybe that was your flaw - no matter how much jean convinced you otherwise. it always had been, your head had always been elsewhere, dreaming of a better place while your body carried out its own fight.

you let out a sigh. there was no light that sasha told you about - one of the many tales her grandmother had narrated to her. there was nothing to follow, nowhere to go. you eyes fluttered shut when even the dimness became to bright for you to handle.

flochs incoherent babbling was almost inaudible and jean had to resort to reading his lips rather than try to hear anything. he felt like he was running out of time. hange said something about not being able to give up, and in all honesty, jean wanted to clog up his ears again and close his eyes to hope the same way you did. hope that eren would atleast listen and stop this, hope that after this you'd spend your days together, hope that one day, his friends would share a meal without thinking about war.

his hand wandered to it's left without even thinking, hoping to find yours to link itself with.

jeans brows furrowed when he felt nothing but cold air greet him.

you were right there, weren't you? on his left like you always had been?

he knew you couldn't be lost. you'd be too adamant to help out all the workers instead of view the rumbling from afar, away from all the shouting. you were never one for being lost in violent thoughts, always pushing yourself headfirst with any and all work you could get your hands on as a way of distracting yourself.

jean looked around infront of him, scanning the place. hange followed his confusion.

"where's poppy?" he asked, only to be met with a half-hearted shrugged from the leader.

"sir!" he heard someone shout, a terrified shriek following the sound.

jean stood before he could even think, head whipping around to find the sight.

a pool of blood surrounding a previously white shirt, and gear that could only belong to one of the nine wearing them. the hand his fingers were desperately searching for was now drenched in red.

jeans head whirred with questions. his heart felt like it was burning, a sensation that was new to him. his leg moved him before he could make sense of anything happening.

your struggled breaths met his ears with an ache, and something in his chest shook with so much force, he felt like he would collapse if it weren't for the heavy machinery clinging to his body.

it was only when the soles of his feet touched the blood that jean felt like he couldn't breathe.

a string of curses left his mouth before he could even stop it, and the years spent trying to be a good leader went into the drain as the strong, honest and passionate section commander collapsed next to his lover's body with a clambering breath and shaking hands.

he felt his knees as they hit the ground, the blood - your blood - staining through his pants.

he didn't care about the stains or the status or the stares of everyone around him. you were on the ground in the way that he only had nightmares about; nightmares that you woke him up from, comforting him until his fear subsided.

your eyes are almost closed, he notes, and he wants to slap himself when his brain thinks of how long you laid like this waiting for him.

he didn't waste another second scooping you gently into his arms. you groan weakly as his forearms flex, and he tried not to let the string of curses fall from his mouth. he was pretty sure he was uttering them anyway. he had a bad habit of cursing, a habit you laughed at whenever he did. he cursed incoherently after you first kissed him. he'd remember that laugh forever.

your head nestles in the crook of his arm as he holds on to you and the bitter hope he refuses to let go of. your eyelashes flutter, and he brings his hand up to your wound, cursing his palms as they shake with force.

"no, no, no, no, no, no. please. please." are all the words that can come out of his mouth as he touches his warm forehead against your cooling one.

"it's okay." they croaked out. "we'll meet again."

jean could hear their hope. their usual honeyed tones had lost their light but they still held on to that one last string of bright dreams.

and despite himself, jean smiles. he breathes out shakily onto their paling skin.

jean didn't know if their friends knew about this. jean didn't know if hange was alright, if their promise of protecting them was fulfilled till their last breath. all the loss that occurred in the matter of seconds made jean feel trapped inside a small box, one that only you could pull him out of.

your noses were touching. jean left a kiss to your mouth, fleeting but with all the love he had stored through the years. he adjusted your head so your lips could graze his chest one last time.

a promise, he hoped. his heart would find yours again and love it just the same if not more.

the last time he saw your face was one he refused to remember. he refused to remember your closed eyes and shuddered final breath and pale skin. your body was left on the ground with no real grave to mark it, no-one to remember your body except the years he spent memorizing it.

he was aware of Connie's crumbling presence as both of them boarded the flying boat. the actions jean made in order to get that machine flying were only half registered by his brain. the boat rattled as they sat in silence.

"where... where's (y/n)?" Armin asked. jean flinched for the first time in years.

his face was not tear stricken yet. as much as he wanted to, he could not collapse. no matter how hard his bones begged him to rest, his mind ran rampant and his heart refused to slow down.

the question, however, finally broke him.

his vision blurred as silent tears flowed down his cheeks. his chest felt like it was giving up, collapsing onto itself, and the rattling of the flying boat felt like mere background noise when he clamped his ears with his palms. the underside of his nails was caked in your blood and the thought itself make him shut his eyes tighter than before.

if his friends spoke, he didn't hear it. Mikasa and Connie's presence next to him felt overshadowed by his all consuming guilt.

he wasn't there. he didn't notice your fall before you touched the ground, hell, he wasn't even looking at you when floch shot everything in his blurring vision. jean should've been there, in your place. jean should have been there to spend atleast a few more moments with you.

were you with them now? marco, sasha, and all the other cadets you had befriended while jean stayed stuck in his ways as a teenager? did marco greet you with open arms and sasha greet you with a kiss on the cheek?

he tried to convince himself you were resting now, finally. he tried to tell himself that you were fine, that your friends and fallen comrades would embrace you into the afterlife. but he couldn't.

you were happiest with him, and selfishly, he wanted you here.

that's how it was supposed to be. you promised a large house uphill with two cats and your warm laughter, while he would read the sunday paper and drink his cooled down tea and eat his sugared toast. his mother would visit you on the longer weekends and you promised you'd learn all his favourite dishes - ones he knew you'd like too.

he had a plan. his future was built around you and for you.

what was he supposed to build his future around now? an empty apartment with the lack of a floral perfume in the air with no decor whatsoever? with no-one to make it a home?

Connie's hand rested on his back as jean clutched his head, resting his elbows on his knees.

he knew this was far from over but he craved so badly for it to be done with.

he heard something being spoken to him. Mikasas voice wavered when she spoke, something she had never done before. Armin lost hope before even knowing the answer to his previous question, and Connie's hand had never felt so distant. jean's own guilt outweighed even reiners, and Levi sat in his own silence as he witnessed the fall of two of the people that meant the most to him.

jean felt everything slip away from his grasp. he wished his mother had prepared him for this, but he knew all the training and learning in the world wouldn't stop him from feeling the way he was right now. he knew that even if he did know the outcome of your life, the way it ended right before his eyes, he'd do it all over again in a heartbeat.

he'd love you with all his unshakable might as he's loved you once before and maybe even lifetimes before this. maybe even universes beyond this cruel one.

his eyes opened with a start. his nightmares had been few and far in between, a rare occurence that his body no longer knew how to deal with.

his heart hammered in his chest as he clasped a hand over it, no longer bloodied, no longer as calloused or scarred. the soft weight on his shoulder made him look down in the dim of the night lamp in your shared room.

you laid there, eyes closed prettily, a little drool slipping past your lips. his breathing was still erratic, but you didn't seem to mind it much as you cuddled up to him. your arms wound around his chest, determined to engulf his frame with futile and sleepy efforts.

and despite himself, jean smiled.

you were alive. breathing and warm and clad in his shirt, alive. you didn't need to know about his nightmare, not until a couple days atleast, when it would slip out in conversation. you'd grow incredibly concerned, asking him to wake you up if it ever happened again so you could help him through it. he would shake his head, rolling his eyes and tell you not to baby him to which you'd respond with a slap to his arm.

for now, though, he pushed the thought of his nightmare aside. pressing a kiss to your forehead, he ducked down to kiss the tip of your nose as well.

your lips twitched in your sleep and jean smiled wider.

he finally gave in to the rest his bones so dearly craved.

he woke up the next day fully awake, to the scent of warm tea and sweet toast.

extra a/n! : okay so this song literally translates to what hues love is. it calls love anguished and flawed and i thought it would be very fitting for jean and poppy because after poppy's death, that's how jean felt about love. he thought it was futile, that even after all his efforts in the next life, it would result to the same outcome. the colour of love (laal - red) to me meant the colour of poppies and the blood staining them, and also the love that takes place in Jean's heart in the next universe - the one that he has stored only for you. there's a verse in the song where it basically states that the singer is contemplating whether to grab the moon and change the darkness of the night to the brightness of the day and he made his lover his enemy because he couldn't handle the love that he felt for them. (i haven't seen the movie from which the song is from but this is solely my interpretation) so i wanted to end it with a nightmare-ish sequence where jean wakes up and even if he used to hate nights after poppy died because the bed would be too empty, he loved the nights he spends with you now. the love runs too deep for him to ignore and be your enemy instead, so he (unlike the song) chooses to embrace it with you.

and then there's also a repetition where the singer just says "my name is love, your name is love" over and over again and i just think its what jean feels about you that you are love itself etc etc :)

wednesday ended up being not so busy thankfully kasi im pretty sure somewhere along the way narealize ng bosses ko na wala na talagang may gana mag work nung day na yun

we left for batangas ng wednesday night kaso tbh hesitant talaga kami to live nang dahil nga willow is pregnant and we all felt like she was about to give birth anytime soon

ayun, thursday morning, our plans were all over the place kasi nga manganganak na si willow

buti nalang our relatives who live a bit near to us got to attend to willow and bring her to the vet on time and everythings okay naman in the end, we have 5 healthy puppies!

i got a bit frustrated lang yesterday kasi suuuuuper daming plano na hindi natuloy and as you all know i hate it when plans dont really get followed

but im glad na i had fun going to the beach after so long, catching up with some of my really good childhood friends after so long too, and eating good food and relaxing as much as possible

we decided to leave earlier than anticipated; we left kaninang umaga and we just got back home this afternoon

since wala na kaming other plans for the rest of the long weekend, i invited him over to my place and he said yes and im really really excited to just binge watch so many movies with him tomorrow

but before that, i have my things and my room to organize and clean and i have some puppers to take care of too

i hope yall are staying safe and hydrated and are having a peaceful holy week with your friends and family

Reflection Part 1

Nu'ng mas bata ako, I guess, ang rigid kong tao. Dapat ganito, dapat gano'n. Harsh sa sarili at harsh din sa iba.

To some extent, may na-achieve naman ako dahil sa pagiging rigid. Doktor na ako at 24, may ipon, may business (dati), na-try ko na 'yung kung anu-anong sport at exercise, pinaka-notable siguro 'yung pole dancing for less than a year (nagpromo kasi 'yung gym), naging kasali sa choir, nakapunta sa kung saan-saan gawa ng social events, nakipamuhay sa liblib na lugar, naging ESL teacher, naging researcher, office worker, writer, editor; naging president ng mga school organization... and so on.

Pero ngayong tumatanda na, at nagsisipagkasalan na ang mga kaibigan ko, at ang routine ko ay gumising-work-chores-matulog, napag-isip-isip kong masyado akong critical, at harsh, sa ibang tao... at lalo nga sa sarili ko.

Productive in rainy day

I feel warm, I feel something is new. Sobrang natutuwa lang talaga ako na everytime nalilinisan ko yung mga stuff ko is meron akong bagong gamit yun yung na feel ko. I reflected na kaya pala kapag bibili ako ng new stuff is feeling excited ako but I don't wanna see it clean like new kapag tumagal na. I know it is yuck kasi minsan sa sobrang busy napapa bayaan na yung stuff ko na madumi, hindi naman totally madumi but looks dugyot ee.

• Currently I focus on organizing my stuff, cleaning and decluttering. Instead of trying to buy so many things na hindi ko naman kailangan and to think na makakatulong to organize my life.

• I do weekly checking if may gamit ba ko na hindi na nagagamit talaga. If hindi ko pa kaya ayusin, I'll note it and aayusin ko later on kapag nag ka time na ko.

Kwento ko lang nagpapa-overthink sakin. Sooo, it's my 4th year in this JP company (2 years nang panay nagsasabi sa sarili na magreresign na ako) that helps fulfill my HS dream of being able to communicate in JP...kaso basic lang lol nakakatamad na kasi mag-aral. And also, I was recently promoted to Project Team Lead yay. And also, mas nalalapit na ang opportunity for business trip, right?...right? *insert amidala meme*

Wrong. haha. and I feel like the opportunity was proactively taken away from me. Pero mali ko lang din na umasa ako. And I'm tired. charot.

Anyways, how did it happen? So ayun. Actually marami pa talaga kami nakapila for BT. And like nung si Mam V pa ang Lead namin, napagkasunduan na rotation ang gagawin for BT, like kahit di mo project, basta next in line ka na, ikaw na sunod ipapadala. BT is mostly educ/training para sa new work so no worries I think. Hindi rin naman kami (at that time) very exclusive lang sa isang project. Like, anyone can work on a certain project depende kung saan need ng support/manpower. And ayun nga, yung senior ko na 1year ahead sa akin ang next in line. Kaso pandemic happened and nacancel yung project. It took at least 2 years para magka-abundance ulit ng projects pero mostly Expatriation opportunities ang nag-oopen. Then within that 2 years, marami rin nagresign sa team namin. Currently, 2 kaming waiting for next BT opportunity (PTL din siya). And yung isa is not open/ayaw mag-BT so eto ako umaasa na sakin ibigay.

Currently, may inaacquire na project na mukhang rich in knowledge and experience. Yung previous senior ko na kakaresign lang, ako ang vinouch for the project. Then yung 2 current expats ay nagsuggest na maghati kami ni co-worker sa project. The 2 expats are very supportive na magka-BT opportunity kami. btw, meron kami each project ni co-worker but both are stabilized na kasi so minimal supervision nalang ang kelangan dun. Umay na rin kami sa puro drawings haha naghahanap na rin kami ng technical work.

Si current supervisor nag announce na ididiscuss nya daw ang new organization sa team namin sa next team meeting which is Friday, March24. Pero nadiscuss na nung Tuesday March 21 kay other co-worker then diniscuss na sa kanya na siya ang ipapadala for BT so she needs to prepare. Nag-antay ako within that week for a separate meeting sa org to maybe discuss din at hingin ang opinion ko...pero walang dumating na invitation.

Tbh, I was heartbroken. I'm not saying di deserve ni co-worker yung opportunity pero ako yung panay request ng technical work since time immemorial, ako yung very open, very willing maipadala sa Japan. Pwede namang 2 kami sabay ipadala for BT since may need rin naman siya iacquire na certain task para sa project niya. Pero ang ginawa nila is tinambak kay co-worker yung current and new project. Di rin siya masaya since 2 projects na hahawakan niya and, although stabilized, matindi pa rin workload ng current project niya tapos madadagdagan pa ng isa tapos 1k lang nilamang ng sahod niya sakin. sinabi nalang din niya na di pa updated ang passport niya.

I could just wait for co-worker na magsabi kay SV at TL na tanggihan niya yung opportunity and maybe sakin ioffer yung project right? Kahit acquire lang gagawin...Pero it felt wrong. If inoffer sakin, like, ang dating is I am the alt option, and I don't know why it feels degrading. And also, I'm not just mad at the missed BT opportunity, I'm mad kasi there goes my chance of improving my knowledge sa electronics. So ayun, kapag inoffer sakin, baka di ko na i-grab kasi "bakit ko tatanggapin yan di ko naman project yan". yan kunwari kween bitch tayo.

And napaisip din ako na bakit kaya hindi ako yung pinili. Mas magaan naman workload ko. Iniisip ko nalang din na baka dahil di naman ako okay sa elecs (compared kay co-worker), di rin okay attendance ko, 9am na ako pumapasok (pero flexible naman kasi kami), minsan ko nang naditch sa meeting si SV, lagi ako nagpapasupport sa meetings with Manufacturing (kasi tangina naman di ko talaga alam isasagot sa mga tanong e, kakasalpak lang sakin sa Mfg shits). Dahil din ba sa padating na new Devt, pero yawa antagal pa non. Wala rin BT opportunity don, kahit si Mam V (expat rep) walang nababanggit na opportunity sa project ko.

Baka nga di ako okay performer...pero it still hurts. I feel echapwera-ed.

Wala, basta nalang nagdecide si SV tapos di niya pa kinonsider suggestions ng ibang leaders. Sabi pa ni Mam V, sayang yung 1hr meeting na nag-usap sila about new organization, di rin naman tinake consideration yung suggestions nila. Nagkagulatan nalang din nung pinakita na. 3 nag-agree sa hati-project setup, 1 unknown kung ano nasa isip, ayun, yung 1 ang nanalo.

And right now, feeling ko, tumaas nga position ko, pero I feel more stuck than ever. If ever man may dumating na technical opportunities, magfofocus na ako sa management and not on the operation kasi nga Lead na rin position ko, and I'll give away the learning exp to subordinates.

Ayun. Hindi ko na feel mag-effort at mag-oty para sa kumpanyang to.

The last time that happened was when his 2009 action super-hit film Wanted was released on the same day as Rani Mukerji-starrer Dil Bole Hadippa.

Dabangg (2010), Ready (2011), Bodyguard (2011), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Dabangg 2 (2012), Jai Ho (2014), Kick (2014), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), Sultan (2016), Tubelight (2017), Race 3 (2018), Bharat (2019), Dabangg 3 (2019) and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023) released with no competition. Antim (2021) faced a collision with Satyameva Jayate 2 (2021) but then it didn’t feature the superstar in the lead.

Other stars haven’t been that fortunate. Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale (2015) and Raees (2017) were released alongside Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Kaabil (2017) respectively. SRK is at his best position arguably right now and yet, his next film Dunki will have to share screens with Salaar on Christmas 2023. Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha clashed with Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan last year. Salman’s last few films have not done well and yet, no one is ready to come on the same Friday as him.

We asked trade experts about this rare phenomenon. Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “He has a huge following and is a darling of the masses. The business he has generated over a period of time in mass pockets is phenomenal. Though he has had a rough patch, he's the pied piper of Bollywood.”

Trade analyst Atul Mohan, in agreement, exulted, “Salman is a very big hero of the masses. He has always had such a huge fan following; Shah Rukh Khan ka aisa following ab bana hai. Aamir Khan never had such a mass pull. Salman’s craze is one of a kind. Hence, filmmakers are wary of clashing their films with him. Itna bada hero hai, kaun takkar lega iske saath?”

Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, remarked, “Salman is the only superstar who people want to see on screen. He has the maximum on-screen superstardom out of all the actors. It’s a very critical factor. He’s also not on our social media every time, going to malls, opening ribbons, dancing, etc.”

He continued, “Unfortunately his films have not worked as he hasn’t paid much attention to the storytelling, packaging, direction, etc. He has that power that if he gets these things right, then there’s no stopping him. That’s why many are wary of clashing with him as they know that at least in the opening weekend, their film will get butchered.”

Raj Bansal, the owner of Entertainment Paradise cinema hall in Jaipur, explained, “Salman Khan is an action hero. When no one was doing action, he was the only action excelling in this genre. Somewhere, his confidence shook and he also did non-action films like Tubelight (2017), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), etc. Only Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) worked in this regard. But even when his films were gadbad, they still made Rs. 100 crores plus. There was a time when the hit films of Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn did Rs. 100 crores. But Salman’s flop films do Rs. 100 crores even today! And his hit films have done more than Rs. 300 crores. It’s thanks to him that the industry realized the true potential of a Hindi film. Hence, clashing with him can prove suicidal.”

He also said, “He’s 100% an organic star. Even Sunny Deol is.”

Girish Johar added, “If he moulds himself to the sensibilities that cater to his fans and also provides intelligent content, then sky is the limit. I think Tiger 3 will do well. It ticks all the right boxes.”

Taran Adarsh also said along the same lines, “Tiger 3 being a brand and essaying a role that is much-loved, I am sure it’ll have a great run and a huge opener.”
