i haven’t actually seen the episode in full yet but uh. something i’ve observed I suppose?

Izzy Hands. He dies yes? Yes. It makes sense narratively. I can understand being upset, but I’m telling you!! Izzy was the last attachment Ed had to being Blackbeard; the last reminder that he was this bloodthirsty pirate, the last reminder that he was unhappy. Izzy Hands was never a character for the sake of a character; he was written as a plot device, and will continue to be one if we get a season 3, I’m sure.

Just because you love him doesn’t mean him dying is illogical. It makes sense. It is Blackbeard finally being dead. It is Edward Teach finally being free. Izzy was queer, Izzy was depressed, Izzy was tortured. We saw this coming. Some people are saying “We thought DJenks would be better than this!!” but this is storytelling. Thinking about Izzy as a plot device rather than a separate character shows a lot more— he is used as a direct analogy. He represents Blackbeard. The death of Blackbeard was long time coming. Blackbeard wanted to die; Ed wanted to live. Izzy singing and becoming comfortable as himself is literally an analogy for Ed becoming comfortable as Ed.

That out of the way, here’s my thoughts about the seagull on Izzy’s grave.

One idea is that the seagull is Buttons. He is a symbol of magic this season, obviously. So, in theory, because magic is real, we could be getting Izzy back via Buttons magic.

My other theory is that Buttons being on Izzy’s grave is a reference to “to love […] requires change”

In order to love Stede the way Stede needs to be loved, Ed needed to change; Blackbeard needed to die. If this is the case, then Izzy was the remaining part holding Ed back from changing.

Anyways sorry about this but it’s so frustrating having people complaining about this. Being upset is fine, but the show writing itself is absolutely magnificent. Bury your gays does not apply to this situation because these are the “bury your gays” definitions:

Gay Guy Dies First: When the often only queer character dies early on, before straight characters.

Gayngst-Induced Suicide: When an LGBT+ character commits or attempts to commit suicide because of reasons connected to or caused by being LGBT.

Homophobic Hate Crime: When a character is attacked and often murdered by homophobic characters.

Out of the Closet, Into the Fire: After a character comes out they are quickly killed, harmed, or cosmically punished.

Tragic AIDS Story: The story involves the miseries of HIV/AIDS, often starring gay men, sometimes treated like a punishment for homosexuality.

Vasquez Always Dies: The most lesbian-coded character, or the closest thing the work has to a butch character, always seems to get killed off, or has the most violent and drawn-out death.

The closest possible one, if this were bury your gays, would be “Out of the Closet, Into the Fire”. HOWEVER!!!!!! Izzy is not killed because he’s queer. He’s not killed “after he comes out”. Plus, literally every main character in the show is queer. Every single one. I do not believe this is a bury your gays. I believe this is a purposefully heartbreaking kill; you’re SUPPOSED to like Izzy by now! Because Ed likes Ed now. He’s accepted himself. That’s what Izzy was for; showcasing Ed’s internal journey.

This might be a hot take but…

I loved S7 of vld and I don’t get all the hate for S8. I see it a lot on here that people hate the later seasons or flat out refuse to watch S7-S8 and while everyone’s entitled to their opinions, honestly I don’t get it and hope now with VLD being taken off Netflix people give it a chance before it’s gone.

!Spoilers below!

Disclaimer S7 IS my favorite season. From the travel home where we see just how far the paladins have come with their relationships with each other from goofy moments like the game show episode to E6 the journey within, when they’re going crazy stranded in space and fighting with each other. “you ran away. Maybe you should’ve just stayed away” ugh the angst love it.

Then the second half of the season had so many solid moments where the cast finally got what they wanted, going home, seeing their families, proving the people who doubted them wrong (specifically Keith with this one tbh) but it’s nothing like how they expected. I thought the fight for earth arc was one of the most serious and emotional arcs of the show. Everyone willing to die for their home planet, the almost self-sacrifice moments, part where Lance closes his eyes ready to die and Keith’s calling out to him…sold.

Don’t get me wrong it’s far from perfect, I hear the criticism. We get the dreaded bury your gays drop this season with Adam (maybe that’s why they decided to kill off Allura, had to even it out /j )

Moving into S8, arguably not at good as S7 by a long shot but I still think it’s worth the watch. And I know I’m gonna lose people here but oh well it’s me and my delusions against the world.

Persssonaalllyyy I see a lot of the hate for this season comes from Allura and Lance getting together. And okay don’t shoot me here but I’ve noticed a lot of hate for Allura in general stems from this season and I am a Allura defender to the end. I’m gonna be honest in the rewatch I could see it, why people ship klance (they’re my OTP I get it), the rumors about if there was one more season it’d be canon, or how the staff even shipped them or how someone left the team or got fired and that’s why it’s not canon. I get it truuuussttt me I get it. But that’s just not what we got and in the context of what we did get, I honestly thought Lance’s and Allura’s relationship, as short lived as it was, was cute.

We see 7 seasons of Lance flirting with Allura, flirting with all these girls claiming to be a romantic and you now what? He is! He’s a good boyfriend! As much as he changed throughout the show he’s still “loverboy Lance” nervous to make the perfect date for the girl he likes, talking to his friends about it cause he’s feeling insecure taking out a literal princess, taking Allura to meet his family, and as much as I ship klance over allurance (and would have preferred for the two of them to go out instead) their date was CUTE okay sue me.

As for Allura, I get it, she did not like Lance AT ALL in the beginning seasons. So where did this come from? Poor choices in the writing room most likely BUT in the canon Allura has been strong willed the entire show, leading along side the BP, becoming a paladin herself, giving up her father to protect others, loosing the castle of lions and truly one of the last pieces of Altea, she looses so much and even when she finds out there’s Alteans alive, they hate her and believe she’s the bad guy. She’s been this selfless warrior princess who’s had to be selfless for 7 seasons, I think when presented the opportunity to be selfish and happy, she would take it. Shes tired, all her paladins got to go home to their families, got to return to their home planet. Shes lonely af, happy for them ofc but that shit gotta be depressing.

And again as much as I prefer Klance and Allura/ Romelle, for the canon I thought it made a lot of senses that she’d go out with Lance after he asks. I definitely see it as a “fuck it, why not” from her and she gained feelings throughout their relationship. Which irl I don’t recommend but in my eyes it humanized Allura. She made a lot of selfish choices this season from taking creature from the void to, agreeing to go out with Lance. But again I don’t even think it was out of character of her. I think it was bound to happen, after everything she’s been through, being selfless and perfect all the time she finally cracks. Plus it was nice seeing Allura have her “I’m just a girl” moment. Going shopping with Romelle and Pidge, having girl talks, trying to impress Lance’s family. It made her more relatable.

Another selling point for this season were the fight seasons Honestly I loved all the fight scenes in this season, the animation really popped off today. My fav was between Zethrid and the paladins. But does does loose a point here for Zethrid and Ezor being hinted as a wlw but never explicitly stated so boo to that.

We also have a lot of fun and rewarding moments with the paladins as well, like the clear day episode. We get to see Shiro actually have fun for once. Only took 8 seasons but hey. The moments between Pidge and her family were very wholesome and rewarding considering how much Pidge went through to get her family back together. Lance with his family was also cute. His little rant about why his sister shouldn’t go out with Keith was funny. The infamous sunset scene with Keith and Lance, would I have gone batshit insane if it was a love confession between the two? Oh absolutely but oh well. Hunk and Keith’s friendship was nice to see considering where they started with Hunk being the timid one and Keith being an emo loser. TLDR it was nice to see those finale happy times where we really see how far everyone has come before the ending.

As for the ending, maybe I’m just not creative enough to see a different route. But Honerva being the finale villain was one of my favorite choices for this ending. She’s been there literally the entire time just fucking shit up for the universe. Her motive to be in a reality where she can be with her husband and child? 👏 having villains just be evil for the fuck of it is great and all. But it reminded me a lot of the scarlet witch from marvel and she’s my all time favorite character in he MCU so maybe that’s why I liked Honerva so much. Fuck the universe if your family is on the line, am I right? It made her a great villain in my eyes and the polar opposite of allura who had to give up her family and her home for the sake of the universe.

Which is why Allura sacrificing herself to save the universe? Lowkey saw it coming since around season 5 and to me made total sense. She tried to be normal, to live on earth or on the atlas, but she’s a reliac of the past and she knows it. It goes back to the point I made of this girl is tired af. A chance to save to universe and be reunited with her parents even if it’s death, she’d do it. Season 8 she tried deviating from the role forced upon her as the selfless sacrificial lamb but she was doomed from the start. I deadass cried when she died and honestly I’m fine with her death as well. Everyone did what they were destined to do; if the paladins were destined to save the universe, she was destined to die for it.

Now to the post credits and post canon

Here’s where I say the hate is valid and deserved. Points lost fr with having Shiro marry an extra. I get it, they wanted the diversity points of saying YES Shiro is in fact gay but they were only allowed so much wiggle room/if they put it at the very end nothing can go wrong right? so they settled for that. Do I see the damage it does towards queer representation in media? Now I do but at the time when my little gay self watched that I was shocked they’d even show that much and took the breadcrumb piece of rep and ran with it. I told myself, “meh shiro deserves to live the quiet married life after all the shit he’s been there.” But it def should have been Adam.

As for everyone else, the journey’s over. The lions are gone, I thought it made sense that everyone went their separate ways but still maintained a friendship. That’s growing up, that’s adulthood. When I watched that at 17 I was annoyed that they didn’t stay together as a friend group but now at 23, I totally get it. They are still friends, they just got their own things going on so they only reunite when they can. If that’s not adult friendships idk what is.

Keith traveling with the blade helping others, great! Hunk and Shay being cooks and doing diplomacy shit, awesome! Pidge living her best life with her parents building up earth, love it! Did I like that the one Latino character ended up being a stereotype and living on a farm? No I did not.

I interrupted as Lance staying on earth and grieving Allura’s death. Which I can see happening but Lance deserved his own happy ending. I see Lance becoming an MFE pilot or joining the Atlas crew with his sister, something where he continues to pilot cause it’s all he’s ever wanted to do but still carrying that grief with him.

To finish this yap session off, my final thoughts are I think a lot of S8 hate comes from Allurance and the post credits. I think the hate for Allurance and Allura is unfair and some of it stems (from what I’ve noticed) from this misogynist/fetishizing tendacy to shit on the female characters who come between mlm ships in fandoms. So again, I am an Allura defender through and through.

As mentioned earlier, hate for the post credits, makes total sense. But I’d like to bring up a point I see rarely discussed in this discourse. I am not excusing the queer bating that happened or the blatant racial stereotype we got for Lance’s ending but I truly believe Voltron is a product of the times and essential for the evolution of queer rep in western animation. I could do an entirely separate post on this but I’ll sum it up as best as I can here. Queer representation in main stream western media was still new and touchy. And mlm representation was even fewer. I think the backlash is valid and was necessary for dreamworks/Netflix and any other companies to learn their lesson that gay people in cartoons is OKAY and should be normalized. that’s why following I think Vld was one of the many factors in a shift for openly queer couples in animation that we see in shows like She-ra.

So it sucked that we never got klance yeah but I never once thought Klance was gonna be canon. I wished for it but I figured the best we could hope for is some hints like how they ended Legend of Korra.

So besides from the effects it had on western media, as a fan I’ll still take the ending and even recommend it to people as is because of the art that came after. The fanart, the edits, the post-canon and fix-it fics I love reading time and time again. None of that would exist without that controversial ending. I don’t think I’d still be such a diehard fan to this day if it had ended any differently. My appreciation for this show and obsession stems from how invested I was in the controversies, rumors and hype every season. Like the whole pride month post on twitter, dear god what a mess but hopefully a word of warning now for creators thinking of queer baiting fans again.

It’s not perfect, there were a lot of fucks up along the way and at times, downright problematic but I will still always recommend people watch VLD all the way through. But hey maybe that’s just my way of wishing I had more people to talk about the ending with ¯\_ツ_/¯

Y'know? After looking around and seeing all the insane white privilege shit people who "hate" Garth Ennis comics say about him or his comics and how attacked they feel when anyone tries to explain what satire is?

"A-Train is less redeemable than Homelander" "Hughie's mom is irredeemable but Homelander is redeemable" my fucking ass.

I can in 100% confidence say that they don't understand satire or storytelling in general and have no sense of basic reading or media comprehension. Without a doubt.

Most of them are just racist misogynistic ableist assholes who hide behind minorities and refuse to confront their internal bigotry. So they blame everyone else for it.

Ennis is a guy who wrote two whole comics where criticism against British transphobia was a whole ass feature and where boundaries and nuance and grief was such a important theme too. All while deep diving into how fucked up the U.S. military is and how even more fucked up weapons corporations are.

Oh and he also added a couple arcs criticizing homophobia and queerphobia and the people who hate on and make victims of queer people. In the same comics.

But "he" (said from the mouths of blatantly homophobic people that are constantly fetishizing and heteronormalizing gay people) is the one who's homophobic?

Interesting theory.

Exactly as convincing as the one claiming "Eric Kripke thinks women on top in a relationship are evil" despite that the literal first sex scene we get in the show (The Boys) has Becca Butcher on top. It's not like Billy's entire dynamic with her was highlighted with his being happily and consensually submissive to her and how perfectly fine and happy they were with this arrangement or how toxic masculinity is part of what was ruining it and hurting her. I'm sure...she was a villain right?? Queen Maeve also got on top and took control so she must have been a villain too!

This level of DUMB and self righteously full of shit and bad faith nonsense and lies makes me want to vomit.

I'm getting so tired of seeing so many stupid and arrogant people that very obviously come from a place of white privilege projecting their own insecurities and internalized prejudice onto artists and writers who are just trying to tell a story full stop. I'm so tired of it.

The Boys (comics and show) makes a lot of really phenomenal points but these dipshits can't actually be bothered to listen to any of them because they're too busy looking for things to be outraged at so they can virtue signal about it and how "superior" they or their ideas or whatever are to the author (who isn't even trying to broadcast what their views are they're trying to tell a story) when in reality they're just showing how fucking ignorant and privileged they are.

I'm so fucking tired of "brunch liberals/democrats". We need real fighters and people willing to listen and argue in good faith if we want actual change or progress. We need people willing to grow from being wrong instead of doubling down on it. It must be so nice to only have to focus on first world problems while you get to step on everyone else you pretend to champion for but I'm not that lucky and the same assholes would judge me and others for liking something unconventional that actually does pay attention and gives me a little comfort.

time to inflict my jade and khatri AU headcanons on yall. jhatri AU masterpost

i hadn't thought about khatri in a while and that lovely ask brought back all the khatri thoughts please bear 🐻 with me

khatri is so repressed gay priest coded to me that i actually forget that's not a canon plot point most of the time

to me he's constantly having sexual thoughts about boyd that he is sooo deeply ashamed of, mostly because he believes that boyd is straight and would change the way he sees him if he knew

in any case with the dead wife situation boyd's got going on it's definitely just easier to push any lustful thoughts aside. until jade shows up :)

yall khatri was soo sweet and caring with jade!! and his reaction when jade flirted with him while high? kristi rolled her eyes, boyd slapped him away, but khatri had a fucking experience there, you cannot change my mind

pictured above: what could have been the start of a beautiful relationship if the writers were not so concerned with superflous things like "story" and "plot"

it might have been the first time in his life that another guy openly called him beautiful or looked at him like that. or it might also have reminded him of a boyfriend he had or almost had in his youth. take your pick. both work

also, we cannot ignore that jade is a really attractive guy and that he's literally handcuffed in this scene. it's such a peak meet cute come on look at them. look at their hands

now, i can see khatri going to check up on jade the next morning or a few days later. jade is completely alone after all so i feel like khatri would tell him that he can stop by the church if he wants. jade would just laugh it off and then be like oh you're actually being serious?

but he would go. not for his own sake but because tobey was catholic or something and he was kind of losing his mind when they buried him so he didn't get to give a proper goodbye. khatri does a little funeral service just for him and jade is a mess afterwards

they would sit and talk and khatri would ask him if tobey was his partner and jade would feel safe enough with khatri to explain the complexities of their situationship. khatri would share some of his own memories about loving other men in return

khatri is basically resigned to eternal unhappiness tm but jade is clingy and needy and entitled so he would find excuses to see khatri all the time. i stand by my belief that khatri couldve fixed jade. imo most of jade's bratty attitude comes from being defensive against what he percieves as threats but with khatri i think he would just feel safe to be himself

jade would obviously have a big problem with khatri being resigned to unhappiness tm and i think he would just rope him into projects like he did with jim and tabitha

they would have a lot of discussions about religion where jade would be a total prick but khatri would humor him because jade clearly needs the venting session and because khatri can really use a lighthearted break from his internal monologue of guilt and shame. symbiosis

obviously people would talk because it would make no damn sense. why is a priest going around collecting car engine parts

and indeed a big part of why they're spending time together at all is because they enjoy each other's company. just like with boyd the situation doesn't really work in their favor because jade is not really thinking about anything besides finding a way out of the town

one day some people are looking at them a little weird and jade knows that look so he gets really worked up and yells something like "yeah i'm fucking your priest if that's what you wanna know, can you move along now?"

as soon as he turns back to khatri he realises that he really fucked up, though. once they're alone in private jade apologises and admits that he said that because he kind of wishes he was fucking the priest but "listen, that's not the point, the point is that i'm really sorry, i shouldn't have said that, and i shouldn't have said that here, and... fuck"

"i'm just sorry, alright?" before leaving the church while feeling terrible for having fucked up that bad. sadly i think they... wouldn't really get to fix it? since jade would be getting sucked deeper into the whole visions situation around this time and khatri has the whole deal with sara going on

which is another reason why khatri would shut jade away. maybe jade would go try to fix things and ask to come in and khatri would have to tell him no. because he literally has his best friend's murderer locked up in the basement LMAO

if someone else wants to add to this or sees a way in which it could work please do add to this i am literally so starved and i have so many cute headcanons for them if they were together but i cant see khatri going for it so i just suffer

Regarding the consort stuff, there's... some truly awful implications for meta stuff with regard to queer characters.

The whole premise of the Miquella/Radahn stuff and the plan and how Mohg ties into it is terrible on a meta level.

As in "bury your gays" (Mohg and Trina) meets "queers are evil and force themselves onto others and ruin others" (Miquella and Malenia) meets "queers are pedophiles" (Radahn). The trifecta of shitty queer media representation!

Mind you, when I'm talking about pedophilia in the story, I'm not talking about the memeing about Mohg and the situation with Miquella's curse in the fandom for two years. You know, the memeing that happened back when in the base game's implications of how Miquella's curse worked being "adult mind, cursed body." (SotE now flip-flops with his curse in some weird ways, so it's now hard to tell what the intended reading is. His planning requires an adult mind for a decent chunk of it for all the logistics and the seduction and the way in which he is cruel is very adult, but other parts of it only makes sense somewhat if his curse includes that he's got a child mind, not just a child body.)

Because this is so over the top in how bad what Miquella's plan entails and makes literally all the other characters involved other than Mohg awful in a way that feels.... out of place in how over the top bad it it? We don't get this with, like, Godrick and his grafting, where he just kills people and pastes limbs onto himself. It feels out of place grizzly for the sake of being dark and edgy. Like "Zach Snyder looking at the base game and GoT and writing the edgiest shit he could" kind of edgy.

Because the premise of Miquella's plan is that Miquella, a queer femme man, wants to force Radahn into getting gay married when he didn't want to.

Radahn is now possibly a queer pedophile. The timeline stuff of other items and the base game's timeline implies that Miquella was actually a child when Radahn promised to marry him. But Radahn was an an adult before Miquella would've been born- his helm implies he was an adult when he met Godfrey, as does the stuff with Gaius and Messmer that show up in the DLC, as does Miquella's envisioning of Radahn as a young adult. But the implication of the vow is that Radahn was on board with promising to marry an actual child, but once the child is probably (?) an adult who just looks young, only then does Radahn back out.

To do his plan, Miquella then seduces and uses another queer man (Mohg) who is a fantasy racial minority in-universe (hornsent), and then gets him killed, and then uses this minority man's body as a corpse puppet to make hornsent equivalent of blackface/yellowface/redface while removing most of his features to make his body look like a human. So he can stuff the pedophile who doesn't want to get gay married's soul into that corpse puppet of the guy he got killed and have him as his husband.

This desecration and use and abuse of Mohg isn't focused on at all by anyone except Ansbach (who followed Mohg prior to being enchanted), who wants Mohg to at least have some dignity in death after what Miquella did to him. Most people will likely miss this aspect with Ansbach, though- most players will assume that Mohg's follower is the backstabber of the group purely through aesthetics and miss the quest. Ansbach's quest is optional, despite being the only thing that ties together everything and presents actual stakes for the broader narrative about what Miquella is doing.

Meanwhile, Trina is Miquella's other half (making them bigender/genderfluid/NB akin to Marika/Radagon?) and Miquella tossed her aside. She's now a sleeping flower lady with a broken spine who tells us to kill Miquella and is functionally dead.

And now Malenia, a disabled woman implied to be queer, is in on and totally okay with Miquella's seduction/betrayal/double murder/double rape/hornsent-face/necrophilia plans. As in, she tries to kill Radahn specifically to force his soul to the Land of Shadow so Miquella can force him into the consortship. She also knows Mohg took Miquella- she wasn't at all worried about where Miquella went for so long- meaning she's complicit in the horrific situation with Mohg.

This is so over the top that I feel like I'm going nuts.

Like, it isn't even a case of "well, FromSoft kills all their characters!" Because this is so... grotesque, and the story is dependent on the idea of a queer guy whose whole thing is using and abusing others' in a relationship context.

As someone who has kind of convinced themselves Izzy is gonna die at the end of S2, could you share your reasons why you think he won't? I'm sure a lot of us who think he's doomed could use some ideas as to otherwise. And who do you think is being buried in that grave scene in the Behind the scenes video? Hey, first of all, this is the first ask I’ve ever got, so thanks ☺️

Okay, so, there’s been so many posts recently with much more elaborate and better-argued takes than mine, and I can’t really take credit for anything I’m going to say here because none of these thoughts are original, really… but anyway.

I was surprised how quickly and strongly people seemed to have latched onto the “Izzy’s gonna die” train based on, as far as I'm concerned, nothing more than a couple of vague BTS bits and a general sense of foreboding caused by previous experience with stories like these.

First of all, the BTS pictures and videos. Namely the bit where Izzy seems to be lying down and the one with the grave. It’s a massive stretch at best. I think Izzy’s likely to get injured at some point, but this could literally be anything, we can’t even see what’s going on. This could be a fuckery. At one point Ed is holding out his hand stained with blood, but we don’t even know whose blood it is. Same for the grave. Izzy isn’t the only crew member missing from the ring of people standing around it. We know there’s going to be a big battle in E08, so it's not surprising someone would die, but there’s simply no proof and not at all likely it would be Izzy.

Also, think about it. Izzy’s a sailor. Sailors typically get burried at sea. The only other place I could imagine him wanting to be buried at is next to his family in England, but that might just not be feasible, so he’d most likely get burried at sea. The way I see it, he’d much rather rest on the ocean floor than some random beach in the Republic of Pirates, a place he claimed to hate in S01.

Another thing: the creators of the show know how rabid this fanbase is. They knew we were going to painstakingly pick apart and overanalyse every single frame of every morsel of promotional content we could get our hands on. So far they’ve gone to great lengths to avoid major spoilers. They even changed Ed’s line in the trailer where he said “and, more importantly, no more Izzy” (replaced it with “no more Stede”) in order not to reveal the plotline of Ed shooting Izzy, even though that line was pretty vague and could have been up to interpretation. So how likely is it that they would reveal a major character’s death in several frames of BTS material? Just not very likely at all, I’d say.

Then I’ve seen a few people argue that the writers want to get rid of Con because doing the CGI for the unicorn leg is too expensive and inconvenient. I’m calling bullshit on that one too. Admittedly, I don’t know much about CGI, but Con literally just has to wear a green sock over his boot or something like that, and it’s not that hard to frame it in a way that makes his leg less visible. So far we’ve had a lot of shots with him just sitting there, or where he was filmed from the waist up. I imagine it wasn’t easy for Con to mimic moving like he was missing a leg, but he nailed it perfectly, and he seemed to have an easier time walking around in episodes 6 and 7 compared to ep 5, so he won’t have to keep up the severe limping to the same extent. At this point Izzy is the third major character after Stede an Ed. There’s no way they’d get rid of him just because of a minor cinematographic inconvenience like that.

And then there’s the fact that nobody actually dies in this show except for the villains. David Jenkins took the “bury your gays” trope and turned it into “make your gays unkillable”. This is literally the show that gave us recreational gut stabbing. There’s only a couple of exceptions, but they were all very minor characters or, well, a bird… I really liked Ivan, but he was easily the least important character out of all the crew members, and probably the only reason his death was offscreen was because the actor quit after S01. There’s no indication that Con wants to quit, it’s obvious he’s having the time of his life with this role, so it’s very unlikely he would sacrifice it for some other project.

What OFMD does love, on the other hand, is characters appearing to die, only to end up surviving against all odds. That’s, like, its signature trait by now. None of us really believed Lucius was going to die, even though logically it was extremely unlikely he wouldn't just drown immediately. They didn’t even bother to explain it properly, that’s how little this show cares for realism. And we love that about it. Izzy himself has already had not one, not two, but THREE instances like that: the dream sequence scene, getting shot in the leg, then surviving his suicide attempt. If he happened to actually die for real now, that would just be bad storytelling.

Speaking of storytelling… That’s really the main reason I don’t believe Izzy’s going to die. I know a lot of people are hung up on the whole “his narrative arc is complete and he has served his purpose as a character” thing, and in any other show that might be true, but not this one. OFMD isn’t just a show, it’s a love letter to the queer community. Izzy is now a representation of a queer person discovering himself and being accepted into the found family. He figuratively embodies the spirit of the Revenge. The physical unicorn figurine was destroyed, but the crew managed to use something “broken” and give it a new life. If the show did this only to kill Izzy off right afterwards, that would feel like a slap in the face. It wouldn't complete his character arc, it would undo it. It would be way worse than another show killing off some character that simply happened to be gay. It would feel like killing a character off specifically because they finally found some happiness in being gay, right after reaching the peak of their personal development as a queer character. It would feel deliberately mean rather than merely thoughtless.

And it would make the very first scene of S2 kind of meaningless, too. That dream sequence specifically showed us what was not going to happen. Izzy wasn’t going to stand between Stede and Ed anymore. Izzy and Stede weren’t going to be enemies anymore. Ed wasn’t going to melt into Stede’s arms and immediately forget all that’s happened. And Izzy isn’t going to die. Simple as that.

OKAY I've ready Bury Your Gays now and:

I'm apparently more of a supernatural horror loser because my reactions to the evils of this story were more ??wtf? than interest if that makes sense??

and the setting. Setting it in hollywood...I lost so much ability to get spooked. Oh? Someone got murdered in hollywood? The place with all the cemetery and walking death tours? The place famous for drugs and death and the occasional murder? Color me shocked. Tell me how Natalie Wood died, again.

The evil was— and I will not spoil it for you— something so specifically an enemy to me personally that I got out of being spooked and just Got Mad lmao. This is a real life evil I can be mad about right now. Sure it's weird that it's killing people at the moment but my standards for hollywood and the movie industry was so low that genuinely I was like "Yeah, this [horrible supernatural interpretation of this particular evil] might as well happen."

Gore good! Gore very good, but nothing will beat that opening death scene anywhere lmao

Very good backstory tethering to the main character and the story as it unraveled too. Sometimes the background felt more real to me than the ongoing story itself.

My coworker came up to me and asked if the AceAro rep was any good and I had to squint and remember who it was. There is AceAro rep here. I think it's good?? I fluctuate on the both and honestly it was barely a passing thought to me.

However. That payoff. So funny.

I think that overall, Camp Damascus was a better fit for me as a reader due to my long-term interests in cults, the occult, and the age group of the main character. Bury Your Gays is very good, but I am a cynical killjoy and this humor(?) did not click as well with me as it may with you. Pick up a copy, give it a read— it really is an ingenious story, and it is most definitely worth at least a 'what the fuck' reading— and do your very best to not imagine Misha MainCharacter as that guy from Supernatural, as I have literally this whole time. It will be tempting. But Misha MainCharacter has an actual boyfriend, and Misha Supernatural would never be so unambigiously queer without fumbling the bag publicly on twitter.

i'm going to fucking cry.

i've finished watching the doctor falls and just.

augh.

not in any particular order:

- aaaaaaaaaa the way they keep cutting between human!bill and cyberman!bill based on who's looking at her and how she sees herself

- the way the doctor catches alit before she can run away from bill, reassures her that there's nothing wrong with trying to help even if you fail

- the horror of the mondasian cybermen, the rubber suits, this is exactly what was missing from death in heaven–the fact that the cybermen are zombies, they're conscious, they're rotting flesh incased in metal, they're humanity's insistence on dragging their own dead body behind them into the future

- the way the end of bill's arc is that she is not her body, without saying that her appearance doesn't matter, because it does, because she's very particular about how she chooses to express herself but that doesn't mean she can't move on, because she can recognize that who she is is not the body she was born into, which is exactly what the cybermen can't

- the utter tragedy of the fact that she can't even get angry about what's happening to her (and while i do think this was a little clumsy and heavy handed, and i think it can be interpreted as racist, i did think it was less 'oh she's a black woman so her anger is more dangerous' and more 'here is a character who is so very emotional and has been the whole time, who's core character trait is her feelings, who has used those emotions to save the world time and again, and she does not want to exist if she can't be herself')

- i do wish we'd spent more time on heather's appearance and bill's ending, but i'm not going to argue with the fact that doctor who, a show i'm pretty sure holds the record for how quickly they can pull a bury your gays (30 seconds) giving a Black lesbian companion the most permanent happy ending possible

- no because seriously they get to be happy together FOREVER

- AND SHE SAVES THE DOCTOR ONE MORE TIME AND DOESN'T HAVE TO DIE TO DO IT

- to me it felt like the story really wrapped around and closed up in world enough and time, and this episode was just tying off ends and closing corners, but seeing as moffat has a serious problem with open plot threads, i'm not super upset about it

- i know some people think that twelve refusing to regenerate doesn't make sense for his character but i personally disagree with that because the only doctors so far in nuwho (that i have seen) who've had a peaceful regeneration are nine who literally absorbed the time vortex to save rose and didn't have time, and eleven, who took three hundred years of forcibly staying in one place to get tired enough to be alright with it, so i think it is perfectly in character for the doctor

- especially because this is a little bit of a mirror of journey's end, and i am a strong believer that ten didn't want to regenerate largely because the grief he felt for donna was all he had left of her, and he knew he would lose the intensity of that when he changed

- as far as twelve knows, his memories of bill are all that's left of her

- i don't think he knows she's still out there with heather, or even if he does, he's still lost her, she's still chosen to leave him, and the ragged, torn, open wound of missing her is all he has left of her

- the doctor is tired

- he doesn't have anyone left, he's all alone, and he's so sick of always ending up alone

- CLARA

- FUCK

- WITH HOW OBSESSED I AM WITH HER YOU'D THINK I'D'VE NOTICED BEFORE NOW

- he doesn't remember clara, barely knows he misses her, he didn't get to feel the grief of losing her because he couldn't remember it, and he doesn't want to forget bill, doesn't want to let go of the chance he gets to mourn her

- he started this season off with moving on because people needed him, but he was wrong, the only reason he could do that was because he was distanced from the loss he carries around with him

- and bill saved the world because she never let go of losing her mother–she carried it with her and lived with it and didn't let it take her over but didn't let herself forget it either

- she reminded him how to do that and he doesn't want to forget again

- fuck now i'm crying

‘hopefully they’re just friends. hybe wouldn’t debut gay idols. especially not in the same group together.’

you squeeze your eyes shut, throwing your phone across your bed. it feels pathetic - crying over negative comments on a forum, but you can’t help it. hundreds of people all talking about how they hope your relationship isn’t real or making jokes about your appearance. your frustration and hurt builds in your chest until it presses down onto your chest so hard that it feels like it’s literally squeezing your heart. you can feel yourself cracking under the pressure. bit by bit you retracted further into yourself until you felt like a shell of a person, even in the safety of your own bed.

“y/n?” you don’t hear the door creaking open, or kai’s soft gasp as he rushes over to you. “oh, honey,” he whispers, slowly holding a hand out. he rubs your shoulder, kneeling down at the side of your bed. you push your face deeper into your pillow. all of your walls feel like they’re collapsing around you. the rubble from things you created hurt you even more. your breath seeps from your lungs quicker than you can take more in. it feels like you’re suffocating.

you choke on your tears, sitting up enough to bury your face into kai’s shoulder. he rubs a comforting hand against your back. “it’s okay,” he whispers. “i’m here. it’s okay.” your tears stain the fabric of his oversized hoodie. you cling to him desperately as if he’ll disappear as soon as you open your eyes.

“breathe, y/n,” he whispers. he pulls back enough to look into your eyes. “slowly, baby. come on, breathe for me.”

you force yourself to focus on his breathing. air pushes back into your lungs until you can finally relax enough to not feel like you’re drowning. kai wipes the tears from your cheeks as he pulls you back into a hug, letting you continue to cry against his chest.

you’re not sure how long you spend sitting there, crying against your boyfriend. kai’s hand rubs your back the entire time. he slips it underneath your shirt so you can feel the warmth of his skin against your own. you focus on the feeling to calm yourself down.

you grip kai’s hoodie when you finally pull away. your breath hitches as he raises his hands to wipe your tears away. the softness of the gesture seeps into your chest, slowly replacing the hurt that was present before. “do you want to talk about it?” he whispers. his voice is quiet. it drips with honey. you shake your head. he slightly nods in acknowledgement. “okay. come here,” he wraps his arms around you again, holding you close. you let go of his hoodie, hiding your face into his neck instead.

kai moves his hand down underneath your legs, picking you up bridal style. he carries you into the living room, setting you down on the couch before momentarily going into the kitchen to set the kettle to boil. he pulls your favorite blanket over your shoulders when he returns before rushing to his room. he returns with a penguin plush, holding it out to you with a small smile. you recognize it. it’s from your first date - you went to a carnival together under the guise of being two friends hanging out. you won the plush for him after noticing him continuously glancing at it every time you passed by a specific game. he had kissed you for the first time afterwards; pressing his lips against yours in the midst of his excitement. you had never seen him blush so much before.

your lips slightly quirk upwards into a small smile as you gratefully take it, holding it against your chest. you don’t notice kai’s own smile growing as he returns to the kitchen. he pulls two mugs out of the cabinet and pours two cups of tea before carefully carrying them back into the living room.

you open your blanket cocoon for kai, urging him to lay with you. he immediately takes the opportunity to all but jump into your arms. you maneuver your body around his so he’s laying behind you, arm wrapped around your waist. your back lays pressed against his chest as you cuddle up beside him.

kai reaches over to grab the tv remote, cueing up the spiderman movies. this has always been your favorite pastime with him - cuddling as you take turns picking movies to watch. sometimes you make sweets or open bags of chips and share the snacks between you. other times - times like today - you’re so desperately in need of comfort that you don’t bother to grab any food. instead you immediately grab your fluffiest blankets and softest plushes to cuddle with as one of you cues an old movie to rewatch.

a warm feeling of safety and love falls over you. with a grateful smile, you nuzzle deeper into his hold. slowly, the exhaustion of the day begins to hit you. wrapped in kai’s arms with a blanket over you both and a reminder of your love held against your chest you begin to fall asleep.

kai notices quickly, moving to pull you even closer against him. he leans down to press a kiss against the skin at junction between your neck and shoulder. “i love you, y/n. you can tell me anything. never forget that.”

“i love you too,” you whisper, falling asleep with a small smile on your face.

YOUR WRITING IS SO SCRUMPTIOUS, SO DESCRIPTIVE, I BINGED ALMOST ALL OF IT IN ONE NIGHT AND ONLY HAD TO STOP BECAUSE IT WAS PAST MIDNIGHT.

i CANT stress this enough you write the main cast of Gravity Falls so well!! I loveeee how you made the Mystery Twins more mature and conniving (the scamming and “manipulation”) , while still retaining their original core values and character traits. They’re always so interesting to read about and I think you captured their voices impeccably.

Stanley, oh Stanley. You poor poor self-deprecating conman. The struggle of Stan seeing his own worth and thinking of himself as more than just the “bad/disposable twin” while fighting his own guilt and issuesssss. You’ve cooked a feast with his dilemmas and struggles, and my oh my are we eating well tonight. His dialogue is always so fresh and in-character, literally jealous of your writing rn.

FIDDLEFORD MCGUCKET THE MAN YOU ARE. NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE OUT THERE UTILIZE THIS CHARACTER ARGH. HIS INTERACTIONS, HIS THOUGHTS, THE PINING IS EVERYTHING TO MEEE!! Like YES feed me in-denial gay scientists who left their wife and kids to work with their “friend”. YES give me fiddleford who’s been crushing on ford ever since their college days. Fiddauthor is a ship I hold near and dear to my heart, and you’ve done them an AMAZING service. Fidds could look Ford straight in the eye while saying “I want to be with you and grow old with you and live with you forever” and Ford’s oblivions ahh would still somehow think “ah yes fiddleford is such a great science partner. golly gee I sure hope there isn’t anything he’s trying to imply with his words here”.

And finally, my most favourite thing about the fic (apart from things previously mentioned)

there’s so. SO much I can say about him and his personality and the way you’ve written him, but I think this one quote summarizes him best.

“I’m as egotistical as they come, as vain as a human can be, and so insecure it could cripple empires. But I care about Stan, and I care about my family. I won’t let my own failings doom them.”

LIKE. COULD IT BE MORE PERFECT?!!?!??!

Like YES he’s a jerk. YES he’s vain and naïve and arrogant and thinks himself to be above everyone around him. YES he hurts the people close to him and YES he’s stubborn and rarely apologizes for his mistakes (before Mabel knocked some sense into him).

He’s insecure, he laps up any shreds of positive affirmations and attention he’s given like a dying man despite having an ego the size of a mountain.

But he cares.

He cares so, so deeply.

He cares about his brother, he cares about Fiddleford, he cares about the two kids that appeared in his life three days ago. He loves his family so so much but he feels sooo guilty about his past mistakes that he thinks to bury his feelings and focus on his work. He would chose them over all the power in the world because in the end, that’s what he did. Ford wants to fix his errors, but while nothing could ever make things go back to the way they used to, it’s sure as hell that he’s trying his hardest.

Because Ford has made grave mistakes. He’s shunned his brother and ignored him for the better part of a decade, while obsessing over a deity that made him neglect himself and those around him. He’s failed over and over and over but he’s still trying to be better.

Because Ford, Stan, Fiddleford, everyone in the story makes mistakes. Everyone in the story’s human (except bill but yk what I mean). Because at the end of the day, no matter what happened in the past and who said what to someone, the Pines family will always have each other. Mistakes, regrets, hopes, and everything in between.

And I just think that’s neat.

(ARGH IM SO SORRY I ENDED UP RAMBLING I JUST FINISHED YOUR STORY AS I SAID AND MY MIND PHYSICALLY WOULD NOT LET ME SLEEP UNTIL I THANKED YOU FOR CREATING SUCH A WONDERFUL WORK.)
