i fear the ending of agatha all along is once again making people confuse “i didn’t like the ending/the ending made me sad” with “that was bad writing”

It’s the fact that in MW3 Ghost puts his hand over Soaps’s heart when he checks his pulse. It’s the fact that he checks his pulse when he’s been shot in the head. It’s the fact that he shakes his head, does a double take when he confirms that he’s gone.
It’s the fact that Ghost lost him

guys can we please understand that
“this one creator on this show has one unpopular opinion about a relationship between canon queer characters”
is not the same as
“this show is bad queer rep”

started rereading baru cormorant due to the hypnotic influence of zoe's liveblog and the level up from book 1 to book 2 is SO funny and good. book 1 is solid and engaging but structurally insane and a bit light on characterization. book 2 is also structurally insane (spending like 150 pages in the elided keep..... dickinson you dog that could have been 60 pages easy) but every single character has become SOOOOOOOOOO funny and compelling and loud in between books 1 and 2 that i am eating it the fuck up. Tell Me More About Baru Stepping On Svir's Gay Little Toes. And Also You Are Both Mass Murderers
i forgot how stark the difference is, probably because it was a few years between reading them, last time i did so, but rereading was a very good idea. now i can appreciate the improvement AND i remember who all the aurdwynn characters are. i've had book 3 on my shelf since it came out but never read it bc i so poorly remembered book 2 that i kept meaning to read it after i did a series reread, which never happened. but now it's time girls

i think criticisms of baru that are like. "the empire is too cartoonishly evil" loop back around to being funny because all of that... happened in real life

ofc everyone is entitled to their own opinions about the ofmd finale/quality of the season (which i think we can generally agree was facing pacing/funding issues)
BUT seeing all the different perspectives is so funny to me bc you can really tell who has lived through genuine “bury your gays” and queer-hostile writing like some of y’all gotta be JOKING

the last time i gave a shit about the finale of a show was the magnus archives and it’s been almost 3 whole years and i’m still pissed off about it. this is the complete opposite of the loki finale. in 3 years i will still be dying on the hill that this is the best show finale i have ever seen.

Killing Eve’s Finale Spoilers (It’s Ass)
I don’t even care that I’m a year and a half late for this conversation, I just finished the KE finale with my roommate. All throughout S4, we had been so kind to the story. We had forgiven gaping plot holes, weirdly written one-off characters, main characters acting OOC, and even the existence of Pam. We even liked Season 3, I didn’t even think it was that bad of a dip in quality.
The series finale changed all of that. Those last 10 minutes were so bad, my roomie and I spent three hours talking about it and going back and forth, slowly coming to the same realization: nothing in Season 4 fuckin’ mattered at all. The born-again Christian arc that went on for Way Too Long? Pointless. Carolyn’s flashbacks? Pointless. Her quest to find Kenny’s killer? Super pointless. Pam’s entire character? A complete fuckin’ wash.
This finale has everything: character assassination, detrimental filler, jarring shifts in tone, a total anticlimax ending for the 12, and even a juicy dose of the Bury Your Gays trope, as basically every single queer character is killed. Game of Thrones had a better ending. The G.I. Joe reveal at the end of Rise of Beasts wasn’t as stupid as this. Rip to a great show, Killing Eve. It died when the pandemic hit and never made another season after 3.
Basically how it felt to watch Villanelle get fuckin ventilated with sniper fire that somehow didn’t hurt Eve even though any bullet fired from a sniper rifle should have pierced both of them from how close they were.

A character named Perseverance being doomed by the narrative is just extra inherently tragic, so I'll just be officially stanning him forever and a day now.❤️

ugh now i remember why i dont interact w large fandoms lmao. people are throwing around the word "bury your gays" to describe the ofmd showrunners killing off izzy hands bc... he was old and queer? just like everyone else in the show??? the show famously centered around the love story between two middle aged male pirates? the show that features a nonbinary actor playing a nonbinary character who discovers their gender identity in the course of the first season? the show that prominently features polyamory? the show that included a PIRATE MARRIAGE between two guys? this is the show that y'all are saying is a "bury your gays" narrative? ok...🙄

hot take but. oda is honestly one of the most interesting prominent side characters in y0 to me. like. don’t get me wrong obviously i don’t condone his actions, but speaking as a character design guy, i think he’s got a whole lot of complexity to think about in his story and identity that people tend to ignore/overlook because he’s not a black and white “good” person. like no shit he’s morally fucked, that doesn’t mean his intense pining and crazed level of dedication to tachibana and the lengths all his guilt and repressed love for the man he saw as the best thing to ever grace his life drove him to aren’t interesting to think about– if anything it makes him more interesting. he was. really something
#people like to joke about wanting problematic queer rep instead of just good upstanding citizens all the time but then you get someone like#oda and suddenly all nuance dissappears and liking him as a character (for being a well-made character I mean) is equated to#condoning sex trafficking. like. no that’s not how that works#though I do think- regardless of him being a shitty dude- he does count as a victim of burying your gays#but that’s less about his death being narratively a bad choice and more that there could’ve been more queer rep amongst prominent characters#to balance it out (who don’t die)#though idk I’m always a little put off by the all too common Gay Chracter Dies For Their Tragic Love Interest trope#because it’s. too common. and depressing. but again I think it could’ve been balanced out if someone else was prominent and#canonically queer (also thinking like. nishitani seemed pretty close to canonically bi but. he. also died. so)#anyway. yeah on the other hand im glad they didn’t sugarcoat or morally sanitize him as a character for the sake of his queerness though#I would’ve really liked to have seen more on tachibana’s side about what he thought of oda and their relationship in general- cause they#knew each other for quite a while and were undeniably close. even lived together and whatnot. and all tachibana really got to say when he#found out oda was probably dead was just. well just that. that he’s probably dead. I feel like he should’ve gotten to be more shook by that#and/or more deeply conflicted and pained by the combination of his potential death for makotos safety and his responsibility for#trafficking her in the first place. that’s. such a deep well of complicated emotions to sort out and they really did absolutely nothing#with it. like. it makes me wanna write something that’s how much is There that was unused. so much with that relationship in general really.#hhhh….. anyway I should shut up now#jun oda#oda#yakuza#yakuza 0#rgg#rgg0#rambling#oh yeah also. hating him is understandable but you have to then apply the same judgement to all characters who have done some real shitty#stuff in their pasts to get by- which is quite a few characters- including lee who’s far more liked and was a literal hitman#(saying that as someone who also likes him as a character quite a bit and Likes that he’s in a moral grey zone) so. yeah.#yakuza 0 spoilers

Okay so I saw the bastard son and the devil himself tv show and ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT and then I saw in the credits it was based on a book series so I got really excited and decided I’d only look online at anything after I read it so I got all the books and I started it and I loved it even though I was sad Annalise wasn’t as strong or present as a character and Gabriel didn’t come in till later. AND THEN I GOT TO THE ENDING. AND I COULDN’T BELIEVE IT. THAT??? THAT’S HOW SUCH A GOOD SERIES ENDS? So then I finally went online and immediately found all the people who’d read the books warning people who watched the show not to read them so it was definitely my own fault but will I make that same mistake again? You betcha I will because I’m an idiot.
