Burial Path: Flawless Friday Video

Post-Deathcore band Burial Path has captured my attention with their debut single, ā€œThe Seeker.ā€ Their sound is remarkably polished for a fairly new band. The video is the Flawless Friday Video for the week. It is simple yet effective and of course, flawless. Every intentional note is executed with heavy metal precision. Itā€™s metal, not a lullaby. They could do a metal lullaby if they wanted toā€¦

šŸ’™ Building Shrines For Him

M, 7k, Wei Wuxian/Hua Cheng
Summary: Wei Wuxian accidentally summons Hua Cheng in the middle of the Sunshot Campaign. What would happen if Hua Cheng stood for him? He halted on his steps and exasperatedly sighed; just when he was about to go back, he heard a deep voice. "Is this new? The song you played?" Wei Wuxian immediately turned towards where the voice came and inspected its owner. There stood a tall man, even taller than Wei Wuxian and mind you Wei Wuxian was pretty tall already!. He wore red embroidered robes and a delicate black sash. His hair was neatly braided and placed on his one shoulder. Kay's comments: This story is a bit of a guilty-pleasure and holds a special place in my heart. You know me, I'm usually 100 % Wangxian only, but this pairing of Wei Wuxian/Hua Cheng really intriqued me and it's so well-written. I really think that if there would have been another man in Wei Wuxian's life, it must have happened during the Sunshot Campaign like in this story, when Wei Wuxian was the most isolated and in need of a true friend who trusted him. Definitely give it a chance, even if the pairing might not be something you would usually read! Also, check out this beautiful fanart! Excerpt: Hua Cheng, ā€œIf you need anyone to trust you, then Iā€™ll trust and tell you; youā€™re not gonna lose control. Even if you lose control it wonā€™t be because of you.ā€ Wei Wuxianā€™s lips had parted, he gasped. His heart beat a bit too fast like the times he used to tease Lan Zhan. He swallowed and shut his eyes again. ā€œYou donā€™t even know me.ā€ The other man slowly answered, ā€œI know you enough.ā€ Hua Cheng didnā€™t need to give Wei Wuxian any spiritual energy that night. Hua Cheng was stuck together with him because he couldnā€™t return to his own world, Wei Wuxian knew that. Yet to think that Hua Cheng stayed with him despite being able to leave the war, use a jewelry to live his days off till he left; Wei Wuxian felt a certain warmness he didnā€™t dare feel since Burial Mounds ā€“ maybe even ever since his childhood. All because a man choose to stay with him.

Butterflies and Dragonflies
Sometimes it is the little things that matter. Many years ago, Iā€™d went to visit the grave of a lady Iā€™d never met. I was married to her son and had been having a difficult time with him. Heā€™d taken me to her grave several times and it seemed like a place that offered solace. So, without him, I went to visit her burial plot. If you would rather listen instead of read, play the audio (and thereā€™sā€¦

OP how dare you keep this in tags, everything about this AU is PERFECT
Yes yes Yiling Wei Sect teaching safe and controlled demonic cultivation is very sexy but I think too many people overlook that Wei Wuxian is first and foremost an inventor! He is a man of science! Manipulating resentful energy and doing necromancy is only ONE of the many things this man has done or come up with that changed the cultivation world. Yiling Wei Sect AU where the burial mounds are crowded with workshops and laboratories, forges and studios. Little shidis run errands, fetching and carrying crafting materials, and in addition to the older disciples teaching cultivation there are also classes held for mundane trades and crafts, to be combined and reworked in new and incredible ways. Talismans, enchanted objects, spiritual tools and weapons, useful gadgets. Workrooms full of long, low tables where disciples work shoulder-to-shoulder on their newest inventions, shouting ideas and suggestions from one end of the room to the other. Swords are still traditional, but the Wei Sect is always inviting guest instructors to teach other forms of weaponry, and itā€™s not unusual for a studentā€™s actual preferred weapon to be something other than a sword. Classes are chaos, students are encouraged to argue and debate, and no topic is ever considered ā€œmasteredā€ even by the teachers ā€“ there is always more to learn, to explore, to invent or re-invent. We teach all that is known, but not all that IS. Respect the old ways, but donā€™t be mindlessly obedient to them. Yiling being the fantasy equivalent of the most technologically advanced city in the world. Not all the things the Wei sect come up with are strictly for cultivation, after all. There are talisman-powered looms and plows that pull themselves and little crystal charms that store spiritual energy so that even non-cultivators can activate the flameless lanterns that light the town and the moving platform that will carry them up the mountain path, if they have right or reason to go visit the burial mounds. What Iā€™m saying is that theyā€™re all nerds. Theyā€™re all nerds, is what Iā€™m saying.

You Might Not Ever Guess
Captain Kangaroo passed away on January 23, 2004 as age 76 , which is odd, because he always looked to be 76. (DOB: 6/27/27 ) His death reminded me of the following story.
Some people have been a bit offended that the actor, Lee Marvin, is buried in a grave alongside 3 and 4 star generals at Arlington National Cemetery . His marker gives his name, rank (PVT) and service (USMC). Nothing else. Here's a guy who was only a famous movie star who served his time, why the heck does he rate burial with these guys? Well, following is the amazing answer:
I always liked Lee Marvin, but didn't know the extent of his Corps experiences.
In a time when many Hollywood stars served their country in the armed forces often in rear echelon posts where they were carefully protected, only to be trotted out to perform for the cameras in war bond promotions.
Lee Marvin was a genuine hero. He won the Navy Cross at Iwo Jima. There is only one higher Naval award... the Medal Of Honor
If that is a surprising comment on the true character of the man, he credits his sergeant with an even greater show of bravery.
Dialog from "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson": His guest was Lee Marvin Johnny said, "Lee, I'll bet a lot of people are unaware that you were a Marine in the initial landing at Iwo Jima ..and that during the course of that action you earned the Navy Cross and were severely wounded."
"Yeah, yeah... I got shot square in the bottom and they gave me the Cross for securing a hot spot about halfway up Suribachi. Bad thing about getting shot up on a mountain is guys getting' shot hauling you down. But Johnny, at Iwo I served under the bravest man I ever knew... We both got the cross the same day, but what he did for his Cross made mine look cheap in comparison. That dumb guy actually stood up on Red beach and directed his troops to move forward and get the hell off the beach. Bullets flying by, with mortar rounds landing everywhere and he stood there as the main target of gunfire so that he could get his men to safety. He did this on more than one occasion because his men's safety was more important than his own life.
That Sergeant and I have been lifelong friends. When they brought me off Suribachi we passed the Sergeant and he lit a smoke and passed it to me, lying on my belly on the litter and said, where'd they get you Lee?' Well Bob.. if you make it home before me, tell Mom to sell the outhouse!"
Johnny, I'm not lying, Sergeant Keeshan was the bravest man I ever knew.
The Sergeant's name is Bob Keeshan. You and the world know him as Captain Kangaroo."
On another note, there was this wimpy little man (who just passed away) on PBS, gentle and quiet. Mr. Rogers is another of those you would least suspect of being anything but what he now portrays to our youth.
But Mr. Rogers was a U.S. Navy Seal, combat-proven in Vietnam with over twenty-five confirmed kills to his name. He wore a long-sleeved sweater on TV, to cover the many tattoos on his forearm and biceps. He was a master in small arms and hand-to-hand combat, able to disarm or kill in a heartbeat.
After the war Mr. Rogers became an ordained Presbyterian minister and therefore a pacifist. Vowing to never harm another human and also dedicating the rest of his life to trying to help lead children on the right path in life. He hid away the tattoos and his past life and won our hearts with his quiet wit and charm.
America's real heroes don't flaunt what they did; they quietly go about their day-to-day lives, doing what they do best. They earned our respect and the freedoms that we all enjoy.
Look around and see if you can find one of those heroes in your midst.
Often, they are the ones you'd least suspect, but would most like to have on your side if anything ever happened.
Take the time to thank anyone that has fought for our freedom. With encouragement they could be the next Captain Kangaroo or Mr. Rogers.
Send this on will you please? Nothing will happen to you if you don't, but it will tell what a "real" HERO is made of.

The Righteous Path to Evil by Jengabears

The Righteous Path to Evil
by Jengabears
M, WIP, 15k, Wangxian
Summary: It starts with Lan Wangji holding a whip in the snow. Of a determination Lan Qiren sees on his face. An expression he knows all too well. Lan Qirenā€™s threat won't stop him. Itā€™s barely made him pause. The boy doesn't sit in repentance, but in relief. There is a confident, defiant warmth in his eyes which seems to melt the snow around him and set the whip ablaze upon his palms. His nephew would disobey him. Of this, Qiren is sure. He would find a way to return to that demon which ensnared him; and perhaps next time he goes, he would not get him back. Either that demon kills him, or ensnares him into his wicked ways. Lan Qiren would not stand for it. Something had to be done...before it was too late. Too late to save Wangji... Too late to save his clan from the slow encroach of evil which that demon has wrought upon their world. He would not stand by again and let another Wen sect rise up and claim the lives of the ones he loved. He would not repeat his mistake again. This time, it will be he who acts first. OR Lan Qiren goes to Yiling with a group of disciples to kill or apprehend the Yiling Patriarch. Kay's comments: Heed the warning with this one, because it's very dark and very angsty. For everyone who's here for that, oh boy, do I have a treat for you! A story in which Lan Qiren decides to take things into his own hands and deal with Wei Wuxian and the Wens himself so that his nephew will not fall further. It's really heavy on the dark Lan Sect and dark Lan Qiren especially (though there are threats of something even darker maybe happening in the future) and apparently, the story won't treat Wen Qing kindly as well, so note that before you start reading. Excerpt: Qiren scowled, taking a quick breath to ground himself. "Who is the child?" he asked in a tone which brooked no arguments and promised pain if not answered. Fear flickered over the young manā€™s face, but he attempted to keep his jovial attitude. "No one of importance. I was just looking after him for someone.ā€ The boy whimpered in his arms, clearly hurt by the dismissal in the demonā€™s voice. He witnessed pain cross his face as he hugged the boy tighter subconsciously. Lan Qirenā€™s eyes narrowed. ā€œPoint them out. We will allow his return to them.ā€ Panic flickered in his eyes as they scanned the crowd, almost desperately. ā€œAhahaā€¦ it seems like they havenā€™t returned from their business yetā€¦ā€ Lan Qiren narrowed his eyes. Wei Wuxian was clearly lying. Qiren determined that the child must, as he had suspected, be a hostage to keep them from attacking the despicable demon. ā€œHand over the child.ā€ Qiren commanded, nodding to Xiu Zhang to take the child from him.
pov lan qiren, canon divergence, dark lan qiren, golden core reveal, gusu lan elders bashing, gusu lan sect bashing, dark gusu lan sect, gusu lan sect punishment methods, gusu lan silencing spell, burial mounds settlement days, discipline whip, angst, heavy angst, kidnapping, post-sunshot campaign, hurt wei wuxian, wei wuxian whump, self-sacrificing wei wuxian, wei wuxian goes to gusu

"Luke Skywalker isnā€™t like the old Jedi. He saves Vader with his attachments!ā€
Wrong!
Luke Skywalker, at the end of Return of the Jedi, after his confrontation with the Emperor drags Darth Vader through the destructing Death Star. Heā€™s desperate, knuckles white under the heavy weight of his fatherā€™s body, a little boy dragging his dad to safety. He sets Vader down for a moment, to catch his breath or maybe to get a better grip. He goes to grab Vader again, but Vader, uncomfortable and in pain, asks Luke to take off the mask. He wants to see Luke through his eyes instead of the eyes Palpatine built for him. Luke refuses, says that removing the mask is a sure way for Vader to die. Luke doesnā€™t want Vader dead, he wants Vader alive. Not to hold him accountable for his many evil acts, but for the same reason why Luke Skywalker canā€™t kill Darth Vader; Vader is his father and Luke loves him.
And yet, after a moment, Luke removes Vaderā€™s mask. He doesnā€™t want to, he hesitates, but he removes the mask with enough slowness to allow Vader to take it back. In that moment, Luke sets aside his desire for Vader in his life, sets aside his desire to see him live, and sets aside his entire mission, the reason he was even on the Death Star in the place. In his compassion for his father, Luke stays with Vader until he dies. It is this moment where we see him be the best damn Jedi he can be. Iā€™d even argue that this moment is the greatest example of non-attached love we see. Because Luke lets Vader go! He lets his father die, and in some ways, by removing the mask, he too kills Vader, he stays with him until his last moment, gives him the kindness of granting his last wish and finally chooses Vader.
And Luke doesnā€™t have to do this. If Luke Skywalkerā€™s love for his father was an attachment, he would ignore Vader and continue dragging him to the escape pod, put his desire for a father as his central focus and ignore Vaderā€™s wants and discomfort. Maybe he would even save him. But he doesnā€™t. Instead, he watches as Vader dies.
He builds a Jedi burial for his father and watches it burn the remnants of Vader and Anakin Skywalker away. He mourns Vader, he mourns what they couldā€™ve had as father and son, considers what ifs and maybe-if-I-did-this. Vader/ Anakin is released from his mortal body, from his ā€˜crude matterā€™ and Luke lets him go. He says one final goodbye to Anakin. Then, he joins Leia, Han, Chewie, Lando, and the rest of the Rebels and celebrates their victory. He lives in the present and celebrates what he has instead of what he lost.
Luke Skywalker is THE Jedi. Everything about Luke Skywalker serves as the foundational cornerstone of the Jedi, everything about the Jedi as a culture and philosophy is reflected in his character. Lukeā€™s desire for the New Jedi Order isnā€™t to throw away the values of the old Order, but to vitalise them, breathe life back into dying lungs, and rebuild a path that people set out on their way to destroy. (Yes, his Order is different from the Old, but thatā€™s because it has to be. He doesnā€™t have the resources or the safety of the Old Order.) The philosophies of the Jedi are difficult and they arenā€™t for everyone, and like the perfect Jedi that Luke is, he struggles and stumbles and sometimes he even rejects it. But, no matter how far he falls, it is a way of life he chooses again and again and again. It is a way of life that welcomes him back each time
