full offence to this student cookbook but maybe don’t advertise as having cheap meals and great budgeting advice and then have no repetition between any of the ingredients in the meals - that does not save money
#also who with a £15 max food budget a week is wasting money on passion fruit or glacé cherries#like i don’t know about everyone else but there’s no way im even wasting money on burger buns never mind 10 different types of seeds#sorry i just think it’s poorly organised#if i wrote it i’d be like here’s a list of ingredients you can buy for a max price of 20 quid#and here’s a weeks worth of meals that you can make using only what you’ve bought#because that’s what i find the hardest#if budget recipe books did that then i wouldn’t end up eating the same 5 things over and over#i talk and its probably something weird

Located in the basement level of Sun Plaza, Ordinary Burgers operates a takeaway only kiosk selling gourmet burgers at an honest price. This time I tried their Ebi Prawn Burger meal with French Fries and a can of Ice Lemon Tea for S$11.50. The deep-fried shrimp patty featured prawn paste with chunky prawn meat, lettuce and tartar sauce in plain simple buns. The fries is also way better than others, crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. It doesn't goes limp like fries from a certain fast food restaurant.

Mum had the ala carte Fish Fillet Burger (S$6.60) and I also ordered nine pieces of Chicken Nugget (S$5.30) in case the burger is not filling for her. As you can see, there is a golden-brown piece of crispy breaded fish patty with lettuce and tangy tartar sauce sandwich within a pair of non-glazed buns.

Just an idea
He looked pretty.
You know he was pretty. How could your neighbour not be pretty with that little smirk always on his lips and the little white hair lock dancing on his forehead. You wanted to twirl your finger on it, maybe pull them a little.
But the only thing that was being pulled was your back while you started to throw up again, head inside the bin and hands gripping it like your life depended on it. What a wild night.
-God, are you alright?- He asked, warm hands between your shoulder.
You didn't even think that there was something that tasted worse than the hamburger you got in the fast food but vomiting it left a way worse taste in your mouth. You watched the piece of meat slowly falling down from a plastic bottle to a bean can. What a waste of food.
You gripped the bin before trying to straight yourself, while feeling as if somebody just straight up put his hands down your throat and started to roam around.
-Feeling better?- He asked doing a little step back. You would too, you probably smelled like rat piss.
Your stomach pulled again.
And now it was a piece of the bun rolling on his shoes.
-Yeah, now I feel better. - Even if your voice was as smooth as sandpaper. You were ready to hear some scream from your neighbour, maybe a slap coming for your face, but strangely enough he did flinch just a little bit before acting as if it was nothing.
-Are you drunk?- He asked gently. Not giving a second thought to his shoes even if probably the vomit was now passing through them and going in his toes.
You weren't drunk. God, you wished to be drunk, that would have been a fun time. You were pretty sure they tried to poison you, a shitty attempt which only resulted in a bad night and probably a worst morning. But it's not like you were gonna tell your hot neighbour that.
-Food poison. - you just answered. To be honest, if you didn't had experience with eating literal trash you would think that as a valid answer on why you had just thrown up all your birthday cake of 10 years ago in the middle of that. -Fish burger at the fast food. - You added. Even if the flavour was more rotten egg than fish but 2 dollars for one was kind of an awesome price.
-Horrible idea. - Your neighbour flinched more at that than at the vomit. -Come on, I'm gonna help you inside. - He added before putting his arm around your hip to help you go inside. Not like you were limping but the help end was more than useful to do the stairs as your head started to thud at every step.
-Do you want me to call the hospital? - He asked gently.
-Are you gonna pay?- You laughed a bit. -Nah, I'm just gonna sleep it of. I don't have anything to throw up anymore.-
-Are you sure? -
-Yeah, yeah. - You stepped away a bit. Now in front if your flat, the green door waiting to be open just to throw your body on the sofa and sleep water they gave you off.
-Okay . - He left his eyes wander over you from your toes to your hairs, as if he was pondering the probability of you dying after sleeping the night. He seems okay with his conclusion because he smiled a little bit. -Call me if you feel sick. I'm Jason Todd by the way. -
-Thanks Jason and - You made a motion towards the shoes. -Sorry for that. -

Your latest bread success made me wonder if you've tried or had much luck making gluten free bread? I'm so tired of most commercially available options, they all seem to dissolve instantly. Awful for burgers or anything with sauce. I miss sourdough.
I'm afraid I haven't done much work with gluten-free baking; the problem is the gluten tax. As I'm sure you know, gluten-free anything, even just ingredients, are more expensive, and the process of baking is more labor intensive and time-consuming for a product that isn't the same. Even the best gluten-free bread, lacking gluten, is lacking one of the defining characteristics of the thing it's emulating.
Since I can eat gluten and am not regularly responsible for feeding anyone who can't, there's no real motivation to do it. I try to always have gluten-free options when I'm hosting, but that's usually stuff like crudite and dip, charcuterie, or fruit -- things that can also avoid other allergens, and depending on the item be eaten by vegetarians or vegans.
Now, all that said, I can recommend King Arthur's Cup For Cup GF flour for baking; it makes the process fairly smooth and the final product seems pretty sturdy, although admittedly the flour is about twice the price of their normal bread flour per pound. I haven't encountered Bob's Red Mill GF flour in a while, but partly that's because when we stopped using them they hadn't really reformulated in a few decades and their GF flour was pretty coarse, and sometimes made from beans my family members couldn't tolerate. They may have advanced since, this was like 10-15 years ago at least.
The King Arthur website has a variety of GF baking recipes as well as mixes and I do have some experience making their GF bagels, which are pretty good, although I think they're actually better if you halve the size (easier to manage, easier to store, since they really need to be kept cold, preferably frozen, and eaten warmed). I baked those regularly for a while for a colleague's kid who was allergic to wheat, and they weren't much more work than baking regular bagels, just required more delicate handling pre-bake.
I realize this is basic and you've probably tried it, but just in case, any GF product you're going to be saucing (as you say, like burgers), you might try griddling first -- little scrape of butter, toss it in a hot pan for a few minutes. In regular bread it helps to both create a flat barrier so the sauce doesn't sink into the bread, and it also dries it out a little so that it can take more moisture to begin with. This is theoretical though, I've never done it with GF buns. I do know that generally King Arthur recommends toasting GF products baked with its recipes.
Readers, feel free to chime in with recommendations! Remember to reply in comments or reblogs, as I don't post asks sent in response to other asks.

Once a year or so I get a craving (well, a small hankering) for Burger King or Arby's. Yesterday's mail supplied me with these two pages of coupons, one for each restaurant. I got hungry.
Both restaurants have locations not far from the brewery I go to. Last night the brewery introduced a new, whiskey barrel aged red ale. I'm fond of barrel aged beers.
On the way there I stopped by BK and used a $3.99 coupon for chicken fries and French fries. Not a bad deal these days; I've seen how high fast food prices can be. That particular BK looks busy during the lunch hour but is depressingly quiet in the afternoons and evenings. There's nothing wrong with it though.
At the brewery I got my beer and sat down at a table. The food I brought smelled good. I ate a few hot French fries and tasted... so much salt. I could not eat many. The chicken fries also were salty, but not so much that I couldn't eat them. Enough salt though that my craving was quashed for another year, at least.
This Halloween themed Whopper on the back of the coupons did not appeal to me at all. A sign posted in the restaurant said the purple color comes from potatoes. The color could have come from grape Jolly Ranchers, purple licorice or Jelly Belly beans for all I care, but seeing that bun made me think of purple windshield wiper fluid and beets. No thank you.

#There was so much salt it may have affected the flavor of the beer#So I'll have to go back to the brewery tonight without fast food

PERSONALITY:
🇺🇸 Myers Briggs Type: ESTP Callie is a VERY outgoing person. She has always been ever since she was little. Always loves to go outside for an adventure with her older brother. She’s also the kind of woman who would do ANYTHING for her brother. Whatever he said she’ll do it. Well…some of it.
🇺🇸 Loyalty: Her ONLY loyalty is with her brother, Philip Graves. For he has always been there for her when she needed him most. So she will do the same for him no matter what the cost.
🇺🇸 Action-Oriented: Whatever Graves asks her to deal with something. She’ll do it in the most CREATIVE way to deal with the enemies. And she’ll do it in a HEARTBEAT.
🇺🇸 Pragmatic Problem Solver: Even though she will follow her older brother’s orders without questioning. But she sometimes wanted to listen to her OWN thoughts before following his orders.
NEGATIVE:
🇺🇸 Manipulative: You could say she got that from her brother. She does that with other soldiers if they crossed the line with her. Whenever anyone argues with her. She’ll turn the table around by sharing something that will STRUCK into their core. (She also secretly read your files and got some from other people you may know so she can find your weaknesses.)
🇺🇸 Bossy: Most of the Shadows kept complaining that she’s being too bossy. Always telling them what to do while Graves put her in charge. And yelling at them every small little thing when they do something wrong.
🇺🇸 Narcissists: She is a NARCISSIST. Always trying to prove someone else is WRONG. Even doing that to Philip too. She didn’t even BOTHER listen to other people’s perspective and just kept saying that they are wrong. (Spoiled brat)
🇺🇸 Liar: She’s a GOOD dirty liar. Always got away just by saying her creative words. Even if there are ways that don't make sense. She’ll MAKE it sense.
Skills and Abilities:
🇺🇸 Fighting Style: Hand-to-Hand Combat and Boxing
🇺🇸 Weapons: A6 bolt-action sniper rifle and Benelli M1014
🇺🇸 Distinct Weapon: Sig Sauer Model P320 and gutting knife
🇺🇸 Special Skills:
Dealmaker: She got good info on things when it comes to making deals with someone. She just needs to learn more about this person before giving them what they actually wanted and needed.
Assassinate: Give her the order of assassinating someone. And she’ll get it done without hesitating or even questioning it.
FAMILY:
Unnamed Father (Father, Alive)
Unnamed Mother (Mother, Deceased)
Philip Graves (Older Brother, Alive)
TRIVIA:
🇺🇸 She is the younger sister of the Commander.
🇺🇸 Callie has always been deceived by her father because she was at fault of her mother’s death
🇺🇸 Philip is the only kind of brother who always look out for her
🇺🇸 She’s not like any other kind of girl. She likes to get her hands dirty and would join with her older brother to do something fun or troubling.
🇺🇸 At 16-years-old, Callie had developed a habit of making deals with other students. Like giving them some drugs or cigarettes or even handing out tests with some answers. Surprisingly, she didn’t get caught.
🇺🇸 She enjoys riding on horses with Philip. Almost feels like she is FREE as she feels the wind through her golden hair.
🇺🇸 Snipe is the nickname that Philip had given her because of how her words affected others without a care. Which he is very most proud of. And also, she’s really good at being a sniper.
🇺🇸 Been with her brother in the Marines Corpse and into the Shadow Company. She’s very proud of him and accepted being his second-in-command.
Background Story:
On July 31st, 1987. Callie was born in Texas. And on that same day is when her mother passes after giving birth to her to come into this world.
THAT is when her father started to distance himself from her and despise her. But not her older brother, Philip Graves. Whenever her father left her alone and didn’t bother to care for her. Philip stepped in and took care of her himself. Ignoring their father’s harsh words about leaving Callie alone. Philip chooses not to and continues to care for his little sister. Philip was only 5-years-old when Callie was born. He may not know WHAT to do but he knows that he has to protect his little Callie.
When Callie had started to learn how to walk, this is when she was 13 months old. She wanted to walk up to her dad, who was drinking at the moment and he disgustingly looked at her. Walking up to him reaching out with her tiny hands. He scoffed as he stood up and was about to deal with her before Philip ran in and grabbed her. Saying to his father that he’ll keep an eye on her while he watches TV. The father just rolled his eyes and went back to sit down while Philip took Callie, who was being fussy, to the kitchen to get her something to eat. Which he remembers about his mama telling him about babies drinking milk. So he did his best to make it for his little sister and make sure she stayed put before his dad might get pissed off if he sees her wandering off again. But he did make some small gifts for Callie to be able to walk! Philip was only 6-years-old when Callie was 13-months-old.
When Callie was 12-years-old, she had done her very best of trying to get her father’s attention. Which really annoyed him as he ignored her and paid attention to his son. It upset Callie very much but when she saw Philip giving HIS attention to her. She believes that’s all she needs as she shows or tells her older brother about anything! And it warms Philip’s heart to see his little sister yapping about her day. Callie was very happy when Philip secretly spoiled her with their father’s money. Giving her small gifts, food, candies, snacks- ANYTHING that big older Phil can give to his little sister. She appreciates it REALLY much.
When she turned 15-years-old she had started to pick up a habit of selling some things in the school grounds to other kids. Selling and stealing drugs, giving other teenagers some cigarettes, she also can trade them with answer sheets on their homeworks. All of that and hadn’t got caught. And that’s how she got some money from them too. Which Philip was questioning when he saw his little sister coming home with some of it in her hands. She just straight up lied to her older brother that she was doing a canteen for her school. And just left it at that. Philip didn’t even think about it and just took her words for it. Their dad has still been drinking and couldn’t care LESS of what Callie is doing.
Callie had also participated in some of the sports. Mostly baseball and she was hoping that her dad would come and watch some of her games. Just like he came to watch Philip’s football game. But as expected from all those years…he never showed up. The only person that came to most of her games, is none other than Philip. She appreciated it and she’s happy that someone she knew had come to her games. But it still hurts that her own father didn’t show up. Philip had told her that he TRIED to drag his ass out of the house to come to her game but he wouldn’t budge. Which annoyed him so much. She just shrugged it off and asked him if they could get some burgers. Philip smiled at her as he would do anything for her. So they went out to get a burger from McDonald's. Callie was 16-years-old when she started to participate in sports after the summer.
When Callie became a Junior in High School. She has been called into the Principal’s office. As she was caught red-handed having some drugs in her bag since she was about to sell it to one of the students. Instead of her father coming over. Philip was there instead. So after the conversation the Principal had said that they would expel Callie from campus for she had been doing this for a LONG time. And they can’t risk having her around for she might do it again. So she and Philip left the school without saying a word to each other. Callie doesn’t know how he reacted to this situation before they reached home. As soon they stepped in, the two paused to see their father was on the chair with a belt in hand. Does he know about Callie being expelled? Yes he does. How? Because HE was the one who answered the call from the Principal but he let Philip go instead of him. And he didn’t tell his son why he didn't want to go. He just wants to prepare himself to punish Callie when she gets home. The poor girl was scared to see her father with the belt and was about to be grabbed by him too when he stood up and walked over. But Philip stopped him, telling their father that she wouldn’t have done this if he would PAY ATTENTION to her. The father scoffed at his son’s words before pushing him back as he grabbed Callie. Saying that this girl is a LOST CAUSE ever since she was born and had caused the DEATH of her mother. Those words had really struck her so badly as she started to tear up. It upsetted Philip so much to see his little sister being scared. So he stepped in as he grabbed the father’s wrist and pushed him back before putting Callie behind him. He warned his father to NOT touch her like that and told him that they’ll be moving out. He’ll take care of Callie if he doesn’t want to. The father scoffed with no caring looks in his eyes. So he let them leave as Philip took Callie somewhere else. FAR away from their father. He was only 22-years-old while Callie is still 16-years-old.
When Callie had finally graduated from another school, WITHOUT causing any more trouble, the Graves siblings decided to sign up for the Marines together. And they have worked together ever since. But Callie could see her older brother’s eyes as if he’s not pleased or satisfied by these military systems. Seeing how the other higher ranks had to pull back men like the two of them. So she heard that Philip was going to leave the military and she wanted to join him. Which he doesn’t mind. So the two had left the military in 2017. And Philip had made his own private military company. Callie was very proud and impressed of her older brother’s work and she had accepted his offer by being his second-in-command. This was when Callie was 30-years-old and Philip was 35-years-old.

What food and drink do we think Gortash likes? I put whisky down in my fic but I'm thinking it's so cliché it's blah. I think he would have all put bling food -gold sprinkles on burgers (that is an actual burger I have just seen btw, wtf?!), pearls dissolved in wine sorta stuff- when he throws a party, but what does he actually enjoy eating and drinking? I haven't paid much attention to the food or food prices beyond Neogi Claws, butter buns and cinnamon buns (cos I love cinnamon buns and butter buns sound yummy too 😋)
Sorry the ADHD ramble here but comments gratefully received as I cannot get a handle on this aspect.

Tesco Café, Walkden, UK
We decided to start 2025 the way we meant to continue: with adventure, intrigue, and a dedication to try only the best. That's right, ladies, gentlemen and everyone in between. We went to the biggest Big Tesco in the country, Tesco Extra in Walkden.
What Frances had: Crispy chicken burger (£7.50)
What Sharon had: Crispy chicken burger (£7.50) and a Coke Zero (£2.05)
Vibes: 1/5 ⭐
The café sits on a mezzanine above the rest of the supermarket. We assume the designer's intention was that you could look over the rest of the shop and people watch, as the fencing at the edge of the mezzanine is glass, however at this particular Tesco, large advertisement banners have been tied to this which means that we didn't have a view of much other than the ceiling. On top of this, the noise of the shop carries up to the café which made for a lot of background noise. The furniture was utilitarian, but comfortable enough. No wall art that we could see which was also a disappointment.
Service: 4/5 ⭐
Service was quick and polite, and we have no complaints other than not being given an option of sauce when our food was delivered. The food was brought to us hot and freshly made, and we noted that tables were being cleared quickly after other customers left, so that the area was always clean and tidy.
Quality: 5/5 ⭐
The Biggest Tesco really delivered with the food! The fries were perfectly hot, and seasoned with paprika, salt and pepper which we were both thrilled about. The coleslaw was tasty, and the star of the show, the chicken burger, was excellent. The brioche bun was soft, the chicken was hot and crispy, the lettuce was crunchy and clearly freshly cut, and there was a perfect amount of BBQ sauce and mayo, each on a different side of the burger. We don't give out this 5 star rating lightly, and think this is probably the best quality food you could get in a supermarket café. No complaints whatsoever.
Price: 3/5 ⭐
While we do not feel ripped off paying £7.50 for such top food quality, it is also not able to be considered a bargain. We do feel that £2.05 for a can of Coke Zero was far too much, however, with Frances making the comment that we probably could have found a multipack of 6 on the shop floor for not much more.
And of course, we would be remiss if we forgot our final criteria: would we propose to the love of our life in this café?.
This was a nice lunch, but even with the draw of being at the biggest Big Tesco in the country for an extra special touch, the atmosphere was simply not romantic enough for a proposal. Perhaps for a celebration lunch afterwards, but not the main event. Our search for the perfect location continues.
Overall rating: ⭐⭐⭐
Average rating for Tesco cafés: ⭐⭐⭐

hai im sick in beb spam liking folsk poasts. wuestion
whats your ideal burger. i must know
Brioche bun
Caramelized onions
Chipotle mayo/aioli
Lettuce
Decent burg
Cheese.
Alternatively I like bbq sauce on burgers so replace the chipotle stuff with mayo on bottom and bbq sauce on the top bun 👍
Another alt I really dig is teriyaki burgers but minus pineapple cuz I can't stand the texture of pineapple. And my preferred homemade method on this is a tad bit of mayo on lower bun, a swiss or provolone cheese on the burg, lettuce, onion if desired, and I like to use Panda Express Mandarin Sauce (they sell bottles of it in Walmart and Kroger). It's extremely good.
When I go to nicer than fast food places I usually default to either whatever's spiciest or what has the most cheese.
Fast food places I prefer Freddy's and Culver's burgers to everything else. In n Out is great for the price. I often enjoy Burger King more than McDonalds.

Spring Support Bunny - Legend x reader platonic, part 5
:)))))))))))
“It’s really hot, come inside my purse. I don’t want you to collapse or anything.” He agreed, slipping inside, head poking out the edge. The walk is quiet, air warm against my cheek, fanning out my hands. Legend pops out, wiping his paw across his forehead.
“This heat is gross, how do you live like this?” I wasn’t sure if it was something you just got used to, around here. That would be most of our responses but each summer that comes around feels unbearable, and bushfires would get totally out of control too, just another impending doom of climate change that was slowly melting the ice caps and killing the plants here. Anyway, that's a thought for another day.
“Well what else can we do? It’s not like we can stay locked in doors all season.”
“Fair point, reminds me of when I had to traverse the Goron mines, it was horrible. Never again. I have a friend who said his worst experience was with the zoras, but at least the water made it cooler." It makes me smile, unable to imagine something so far from my own reality.
“Well I guess this wouldn’t be too bad compared to a fire mine.”
“Yea, I guess. But three months of this? I miss Hyrule weather.” We near towards the café, and I pull up my phone scrolling the menu. Better to order know beforehand then when I’m inside and show him the images.
“That beef burger looks mighty fine, can I get that?” It’s almost half his size, but I’m not here to judge on food preferences so nod, adding it to my notes.
“Oh and a large iced mocha!”
“Sure-“
“A slice of chocolate cake too, and double size fries-“
“Hold on! I don’t have that kind of money! I’m still on my parents’ allowances!” Legend twitches his mouth, irritated.
“Well maybe you should try sticking to berries and carrots! I’m hungry here and I’m a growing guy!” I put my phone away, more annoyed with his demands and the heat.
“I gave you half my dinner yesterday! That was a full steak and potatoes, plus bread!” In my defence, I hadn’t even known he had been turned into a bunny before his simple diet, but I’d tried to accommodate as soon as I'd been made aware.
“Oh well thank you so much for your charity.” He says with a snide look. My mouth drops, disbelief once again.
“You are so ungrateful, you know that! You absolute glutton. Fine then, don’t blame me when you get another tummy ache from all the food this time. Or if you can’t fit through the portal.” I say, turning my heel towards the café, feeling a headache grow.
“Glutton! You’re the one that was sneaking snacks at 2am last night. I saw you!”
“Yea, and key point the food was already there. I can’t buy you so much at a café. Don’t you know how high the prices are?” His face falls, mumbling a cuss word and then backs into my purse, shuffling around.
Once I’m all done, I carry everything outside, struggling to balance everything with both my arms, feeling my face heat from all the glances pointed towards me. I feign a smile, nothing unusual about a teenage girl with an oversized tote bag and a huge tray of food and drinks for two while finding a space in the park. I look over my shoulders, quickly placing everything down and place my bag down with enough force to jolt him with surprise.
“Ow! Care to handle me a little easier would you?!” He says, trudging out of the bag. I reach for the burger, tossing it towards him.
“My apologies honey bun, I thought warriors were used to being tackled and tossed around. Maybe his majesty is getting a little too used to the princess treatment.” I feel his glare settle on me, reaching for the burger and unwrap it, almost as big as his head munching through the food.

Fries, Goodbyes & The Rest Of Our Lives
It’s been a week. It’s not even worth listing all the things that went wrong. The icing on the cake (presumably made with salt and not sugar - cause it's that kind of week) was your date canceled on you as you took a seat at a booth in the diner.
You sigh as the waitress comes to take your order, accepting that you’ve been stood up and decide you may as well eat since you’re already there.
“I’ll take a cheeseburger, side salad, no tomato, extra dressing, please.”
The elderly waitress smiles. It’s comforting and sweet. Her name tag says Pattie, and you imagine her grandkids get overly excited whenever Granny Pat visits. “You want the fries with that?”
You ponder for half a second before declining, “No thanks.”
“You sure, hun? They’re included in the price.”
You had dirty Cajun fries from the food cart outside the office at lunch. You know the diner’s fries won’t taste as good, besides you want to leave room for dessert, so you politely decline again.
“I’ll take them, Pattie!”
You twist in the booth to look over your shoulder and find the source. A handsome guy sitting at the bar, wearing a light yellow floral print shirt, smiles and gives a two-fingered wave. You’d clocked him when you’d entered. You’d caught his eye too, and he’d given you a broad smile. His mustache was a flashback to a decade or two ago, but he wore it well. He carried it with a sense of pride and confidence. It looked good on him. Anyone else, you’d have thought it was creepy.
“Hush now, boy,” Pattie scolds, but she’s smiling when she turns back to face you.
You chuckle, nodding toward him, “He’ll take the fries.”
Pattie takes your menu and disappears to the kitchen. You look at Mr. Mustache, who tips his beer bottle to you before bringing it to his lips.
You grab your phone and message the “No Scrubs” group.
You: Stood up again. Where you guys at?
Cole: At that navy bar I was telling you about. Come meet us.
You: I’ve just ordered dinner. Will see how I feel after.
You scroll social media while you wait. Pattie comes by a few times, brings cutlery and sauces, and refreshes your drink.
You hear the bell ring to signal an order’s ready, and your mouth waters when you see Pattie heading toward you. The burger looks delicious. The brioche bun glistens under the lights as the cheese melts over the edge onto the plate. It's so tall there’s a wooden skewer through the top to keep it in place, and the fries are fat and look perfectly crispy.
Pattie sets the plate down, “Enjoy, sweetheart,” and you swallow before drool slips out.
Just as you pull the skewer out of the burger, you hear, “Those are mine, remember.”
You laugh, twisting to look at him again. He’s got a cheerful smirk, but his brow is raised as if challenging you. “Why don’t you join me?” you offer.
He grabs his beer and twists off his stool. The smile remains while he saunters over, and you can’t take your eyes off him, admiring the sway of his hips. He’s confident in an almost bashful way. The open floral shirt shows a white shirt beneath it, and the contrast against his tanned skin looks as edible as your burger.
“Tell me,” he says, grabbing a fry and biting off the end. “What kind of psychopath doesn’t have fries with their burger?”
You shrug, “The same kind that offers to take a stranger's fries.”
“Touché,” he chuckles.
You laugh, explaining, “I had fries at lunch and want dessert.”
He nods as if now understanding your logic. “Ah, she’s got a sweet tooth.”
“I’ve heard that the chocolate malt here is the best in the state. I can’t pass that up,” you grin.
“Well, that is true,” he shrugs, popping another fry into his mouth. “Make or break question here, whipped cream on top of the shake?”
“I fear this will affect our budding friendship,” you tease, “but ab-so-lutely whipped cream on top of the shake. Among other places,” you wink.
His boldness flounders for half a second, recognizing he’s met his match, but he recovers quickly. Wetting his lips and giving a cheeky smile. “Are you flirting with me?”
“Depends.”
“On what?”
“I don’t see a ring, and you’re here alone. Are you single?”
“Yes.”
“Then yes, I’m definitely flirting with you.”
His smile widens and remains while the conversation flows and the two of you eat. Flirtations and laughter pass back and forth effortlessly.
Your phone chimes with another message, and you see the ‘No Scrubs’ group chat has two unread messages. You don’t want to be rude and pick it up to reply, but you know if you don’t, they’ll likely call to make sure you’re okay.
“Somewhere else you need to be?” he asks, a hint of disappointment in his voice that he attempts to hide behind a sip of beer.
“No, just some friends trying to get me to go meet them at some Navy bar.” You roll your eyes and type a quick ‘maybe’ before locking your phone, setting it face down on the table.
“Navy bar? The Hard Deck?” he questions, tilting his head to the side.
“I think that’s what Cole said. Do you know it?”
“That’s actually where I’m headed after. I could give you a ride. If you need one, that is.”
“I don’t even know your name.”
“It’s Bradley, but my friends call me Rooster.”
“Rooster?” you laugh. “Please tell me there’s a good story there.”
“There might be. I guess that depends on if you want to hear it.”
“How about you tell me on the way to the bar?”
The open window lifts your hair slightly, and every time Rooster gets a hit of your perfume, he inhales deeply, savoring it.
He sticks to the speed limit, if not a little below it. He’s not quite ready to say goodbye to you. He’s never had such an instant, effortless connection with someone, and he wants to make it last as long as possible.
You’d laughed at the story about his name. You’d have never guessed that it was a nickname his uncle gave him when he was a kid. The radio is playing at a low volume, but as soon as the opening bars of Is This Love by White Snake start, you lean over and crank the volume as loud as it will go, singing along as if he isn’t there.
“Is this love that I'm feeling?” you sing, holding a pretend microphone. “Is this the love that I've been searching for? Is this love, or am I dreaming? This must be love. 'Cause, it's really got a hold on me. A hold on me.”
You can’t hold a tune, and your voice cracks a few times, but still, you belt it out with vigor, and Rooster thinks he may be falling in love. Did Pattie put something in those fries?
“Sorry,” you say, settling back into your seat, “that’s one of my favorites.”
It’s one of my favorites now too. But he doesn’t say it. Instead, he laughs, “I never would’ve guessed.”
“Are you not a car karaoke kinda guy?” you ask. “You seem like you like to sing along.”
“I’ve been known to hold a few car concerts,” he admits, “but I didn’t want to interrupt your flow.”
“Can you sing as good as me?”
He looks at you and sees the jesting expression. You know you can’t sing, and you don’t care one little bit.
“I’d love to serenade you,” he says, “but unfortunately, we’re here.”
“Some other time?” you ask, and he swears you sound hopeful.
Rooster opens the Hard Deck door, and as soon as he hears the hustle and bustle from inside, he wishes he’d suggested you stay at the diner. Holding the door open, he gestures for you to enter first, and you smile a thanks as you pass by.
You stop a few feet inside, scanning the room as he stands beside you. This is the one time he hopes Hangman is being himself and has, by some miracle, coaxed your friends over to the group so Rooster has an excuse to keep talking to you.
“Those are my friends over there,” you say, dashing all his hopes as you point to the pool tables on the opposite side of the room.
“I’m over there,” Rooster says, pointing to where the Dagger squad is assembled.
“Thanks for the ride.”
“Thanks for the fries.”
“Anytime.”
“Enjoy the rest of your night.”
“You too.”
There’s a pause, neither of you knowing what to do. You rise to the tips of your toes, and he dips to let you place a gentle kiss on his cheek.
His cheeks quickly flush, hearing the jeers, shouts, and wolf whistles, but you drop back down with a laugh.
“Sorry,” he says. “They’re a bunch of idiots.”
He scolds himself for being an idiot as you walk away. He should invite you over or ask for your number, but he’s suddenly tongue-tied. He stares at you, frozen to the spot, long enough to see your friends turn to look at him as you settle into your seat.
Throughout the night, flirtatious glances are passed back and forth, and smiles exchanged when they linger. Of course, it’s Hangman who notices the consequence of Rooster’s error.
“Looks like you lose again, Rooster,” the blond pilot remarks, a way too smug grin showing off his perfectly white teeth. “Too snug on that perch, and Harvard is gonna take your lady right out from under your beak.”
Rooster doesn’t care if it proves Hangman’s point. He looks directly at you. Harvard is whispering in your ear. You're smiling, but Rooster thinks it's more of a polite, courteous smile than genuine interest.
But it’s the kick he needs to take action. He looks to Phoenix, Bob, and Mickey, almost pleading, “I need your help.”
Phoenix nods once, Bob smiles, and Mickey asks, “What?”
“He wants to do the Goose move,” Phoenix explains without Bradley needing to tell her any more.
“What’s the Goose move?”
“It’s the move his Dad did to get his Mom,” Bob says.
“I don’t know what that is,” Mickey shrugs.
“Technically, we've been doing it for years,” Rooster says, “it’s just that this time, it involves my future wife.”
“So, no pressure,” Bob gulps.
“Relax. I’ve got a plan,” Phoenix winks, gesturing for the three guys to come closer.
Harvard doesn’t seem all that smart, and you wonder if it's an ironic nickname or callsign, as Rooster had explained. Harvard certainly doesn’t understand body language. You’ve tried, unsuccessfully, to put some distance between you three times. The third time he slides his arm around your shoulders.
Before you can shrug, his arm slips off, and suddenly, a pretty brunette woman is in his place. “Hi,” she says brightly, her back to a flustered-looking Harvard. “I’m Phoenix, and this is Fanboy. We’re friends with Rooster.”
Butterflies dance in your stomach. Before she can say anymore or you have a chance to wonder why he’s sent his friends to rescue you, the jukebox cuts off, and a collective groan echoes around the room.
“That was supposed to happen,” Phoenix smiles. Fanboy is speaking quietly to Harvard, and he doesn’t seem happy about whatever is being said, but you're grateful for the interruption.
There’s a soft twinkling from a piano somewhere in the room, and after a few more notes, you find the source. Phoenix continues, “That’s Bob, and you’ve met Rooster.”
Your eyes drift up from the piano player and land on Bradley, fingers tapping the wooden top, while Bob continues to find the right melody.
Rooster’s eyes are locked on you, a shy smirk lifting the corner of his mustache.
“Thanks for the save,” you say to Phoenix but keep your eyes on Rooster.
“Well, it wasn’t the actual intention, but Harvard can be a bit…” she trails off.
“Thick?”
“That’s a good word for him,” she laughs.
The bright random notes turn into a clear, rich melody that flows through the room moments before the smooth baritone of Rooster’s voice fills the air. “You’re just too good to be true. Can’t take my eyes off of you.”
Damn, he can sing!
Taking the lyrics literally, he doesn’t avert his eyes while he serenades you. You feel Phoenix’s hand at your elbow, but you can’t look away from the gorgeous man belting out a song just for you. Only when he draws closer do you realize she’s guiding you to him.
The bar is packed, and the crowd gathers around the piano, but somehow Rooster is always in your line of sight, and then Fanboy is in front of you, splitting the crowd to let you through.
It feels surreal but magical when somehow there’s a clear path straight to Rooster. It looks like an aisle leading to an altar, and the man that awaits you has been sent from the heavens because he’s gorgeous, kind, funny, and clearly has a talent for commanding a room. You wonder what else you could uncover, given some time.
“At long last, love has arrived,” Rooster sings as you reach his side. Phoenix slips away as you reach for Bradley’s outstretched hand.
Definitely an altar, and you’ll happily worship here for eternity. Interlocking your fingers with his, he pulls you against him. “Now that I found you, stay,” it’s more than a song, it's a question, and you nod.
Slowly, he inches closer, and the crowd takes over, singing the chorus, when his lips connect with yours and the world melts away.

Mum asked for a burger since she wasn’t too hungry, so I went to McDonald’s Singapore to buy her one. Picked two burger meals from the McSaver Meals range which cost between S$5 to S$6 depending on which of the three you selected. With food prices going up and up, it is good to be able to enjoy a meal without breaking the bank.

Got myself the Double Cheeseburger Meal (S$6) which includes a medium French Fries and a gassy drink which I promptly changed to a small Mocha Frappé (top up S$1.25). Love the juicy 100% beef patties with cheese, onions, pickles, mustard and a dollop of tomato ketchup, all in a perfectly soft bun.

Mum was craving for her black coffee so when I bought her the Filet-O-Fish Meal (S$5.50), I swapped her cold drink to that of a Black Coffee. Also changed the fries to the new mildly spiced Potato Pops by adding one dollar.

On checking out at the online order kiosk, I was given a few selections with some discount, so I picked up the just released Corn Pie for S$1.60. The creamy sweet corn filling reminded me of the canned corn kernels. I think I tasted coconut milk in there too. Overall, I found it to be pleasant tasting and agreeable to my palate.

Captain John Price relationship headcanons that are rotting my brain. Mostly fem but can be read as male.
Also just little British things I don’t see much of?
sfw and nfsw (under the cut)
-
He still has a season ticket for his favourite football team despite not being able to attend any matches. He refuses to give up his seat.
Disappointed that he’s always deployed when the Ashes and cricket are on. Will teach you to understand cricket so you can keep him updated when he gets time to call you.
A man of simple pleasures, please take him to a Greggs when he’s home. Though he’ll complain about the price increase of sausage rolls for about five minutes.
Teaches you the differences between IPAs and stouts when you’re at the pub and likes your opinions on them, even if you hate all beers. It’s just a thing between you two that you do together when he’s home.
If you ever get McDonald’s, this man puts his chips in his burger and will hold the bun up till you rid his burger of gherkins. Only keeps them on his burger if you’re a fan of them, otherwise he’ll always order them without. He will not let you tease him about his hatred of gherkins.
Wants to adopt a retired police or army dog if gets to retire with you. On that note, he wants to settle down with you, but can’t commit to the idea till his enemies are gone and he knows you’ll be safe.
Absolutely makes the best gravy and Yorkshire puddings ever for a Sunday roast.
Loves nothing more than sitting on the couch with you with a drink, watching a TV show or movie. But he always falls asleep and his head rests on your shoulder. It’s like a little routine between you two.
Always buries his head in your shoulder for a good few minutes and holds you to decompress when he’s home.
Loves coming home with fresh flowers to see your reaction every time.
This man snores when he’s home. At first you weren’t sure how you were going to deal with it, but realising that it meant he was in such a deep sleep around you and was getting rest, you forgave the snoring. You know now that it means he’s having a good night. If he’s not snoring, then something is probably troubling him.
Builders brew, has to be Yorkshire tea. Absolutely hates PG tips. You know how to make his perfect cup and he always reminds you and gives you a kiss when you bring him a cup.
nsfw.
Loves putting his hand on your thigh when he’s driving. If you take his hand off for whatever reason, the glare he gives you immediately makes you instantly put it back.
If you ever say a bad word about your body, he’s instantly ready to worship you and show you that he loves every part of you. He loves to worship your body, especially thighs. He loves marking your thighs since you can hide the marks and only he knows they’re there. But your thighs? Did I mention thighs? He’s obsessed. He loves to bury his face in them and would happily let you suffocate him. Loves to fuck your thighs too (especially male partners).
Hand always on the small of your back when you’re out and about, not too much of a hand holder. He knows it makes you feel safe and he’s the only man you felt like that with.
Won’t fuck you till he’s made you come at least once. Hands, mouth, whatever it takes. Your pleasure first and always. He definitely knows how to use his hands on you but his mouth is divine. Will always eat you out like a starved man.
Loves good old missionary, loves making eye contact and being able to hold your thighs in that position. Also loves it when you’re on top for obvious reasons again. Cannot ever keep his hands off of your thighs. But he’ll make sure you don’t do all the work when you’re on top, he loves to help out. He hates feeling like you’re doing all the work.
