Today I want to talk about a part of depression that doesn't get talked about much or acknowledged, let alone understood by those without it. How difficult it can be to do simple tasks, things that someone who doesn't have depression won't find to be an impossible task. This is my room and this is after I've already started to clean some, the mountain of soda cans that used to litter my table, behind my bed and floor are gone along with the piles of dirty clothes. I've thrown away 2 full trash bags of trash and burned a pile of junk mail, with another pile forming in the fire place. I've been able to only clean in 10 minute increments before I get too overwhelmed. It's been 2 weeks since I started to try and clean and I've barely done anything. This is a task that is like climbing Everest and it will take time to finish. I have been gotten after for months by my dad to get it clean and have been unable to do so. Sometimes managing to pick up cups and such but nothing major and everytime he heckled me it made the task seem that much more daunting. You know what has helped though? One of my main supports, he encourages me, tells me he knows I can do it, let's me know it's okay if all I did was get rid of all of the soda cans or the dirty laundry. And he still does, he's there to remind me that even the smallest progress is still progress towards my goal. He's been there to remind me of that every step whether it's with my room or progress with therapy, or with managing my ptsd or depression.
