Minecraft Structure Idea - Snowy Outpost

Continuing to die on the hill that the Snowy Plains does not have nearly enough cool stuff in it, I decided to envision a unique structure for it - the Snowy Outpost.

Fairly common, Snowy Outposts are the remains of... some kind of settlement out in the frozen wastes. Maybe some kind of laboratory, or bunker, it's unclear. That's for the player to choose! There is a free lodestone in the center for players to scavenge, helping them find their way in the tundra.

I think all good structures Teach the player something while giving them loot - in this case, Snowy Outposts teach the player about Powder Snow. There is a large swath of Powder Snow in the center, that leads into a pit full of the stuff.

In this pit is blocks of Suspicious Snow (represented here by Diamond Blocks), a new block like suspicious sand & gravel the player can brush for unique pottery sherds, some easy potions. Just don't freeze to death trying to find them!

Unlike Powder Snow, Suspicious Snow is solid so it provides some ledges for players to walk on, but obeys gravity like other Suspicious Blocks, making it hard to excavate safely.

Hidden among the powder snow is also four barrels containing more valuable loot than the suspicious snow, including a unique Armor Trim. There's also a free Iron block in the floor for players to grab. This structure is, in many ways, a counterpart to the Desert Temple. Four treasure chests, an archaeology pit, and danger in the form of either TNT or Powder Snow.

I really wanted a project to test my skills, and I chose to do it with the HGUC Zudah. I did extensive seam line removal, removed mold lines, filled in some holes I didn't like with putty, and scribed out some of the shallower seam lines and details. I definitely need to upgrade my equipment on that front. I also didn't like the way that the rifle's scope was deeply recessed, so I used a length of sprue to extend it. I'm pleased with the results.

I used the weapons and parts of the body as a chance to practice quickly switching between colors in my airbrush. I also hand painted a lot of the details. After a couple months mainly doing mini painting, it felt like I had multi-classed or something. I painted the mono-eye and scope lenses with fluorescent enamel paint over a layer of white. It looks super cool in person and I will definitely use that technique again in the future.

The weathering was done starting with a layer of silver drybrushing. Then I used a Tamiya weathering pallet to create some contrast on the larger areas. I then finished with sponging on black. I had tried sponging before, but the sponge I used was way to big. Much happier with the result this time.

I am so so happy with how this kit turned out. It was a lot of work but it's great to see what I can do when I go all in.

I should not be on my phone now by all rights. I have yet to respond and finish all the things I wanted to do before properly returning. My revision is a mess and frankly unfinished and I haven't got this, really. But I will later on in the evening. So for now, here's what I've been up to.

From 11.00 am to 4.15 pm now, I've been taking care of my younger brother. He's a baby of four. Sue me for being sentimental and calling him baby not a toddler. Anyways, I was originally meant to care for him until like 12.30 pm, simple enough. Things snowballed a little and I ended up doing language exercise activity books with him the entire time. He's very cute, and I'm very tired.

something i think i'll learn more about this year is appreciating other aesthetics and lifestyles and worlds and then.... moving on. being okay to pretend to be someone or something else or put myself in someone else's shoes for a while and then returning to myself.

think i've struggled since i was really young with getting swept up into other worlds and losing myself in the process. but i've gotten a much stronger sense of self and think i can just appreciate things outside of myself now.

Highlights of the DSMP world download

the server is on 1.18.2

it seems this world download is from after techno's last stream with eret and tubbo rescuing Michael, however tommy's house is still destroyed and it's from before eret building the techno memorial in the museum

The spider XP farm and the guardian XP farm still work, tubbo's villager farm does not

the artic comune's wheat farm still works as well as phil's pumpkin farm

No pictures so everything like the inside of the Las Nevadas casino looks silly

speaking of las nevadas, the redstone also works so you can gamble!!!

the egg was CGI'd into the hole where it was during the egg lore finale, the hole is just glowstone with vines and item frames

named animals are still there including Michael the pig, who's in at cranboo's house

we've found 3 tales locations (city of mizu, village that went mad and blockbeard's treasure island) on the server

everyone's books are still here (if you get it you have to middle click to get the books in item frames or they will just disappear)

for some reason... mcpuffy's is completely empty

this was literally the first thing i found but there is a book schlatt wrote to quackity, the highlight of the book “You had the best ass in my cabinet”

there are 9 blocks of emeralds on the hill right next to the artic commune that was probably gonna be a beacon LMAO

there is a destroyed igloo near the artic commune with two villagers in the basement named "orphan's mom" and orphan's dad" LMAO

this is probably obvious but the portal to the other world doesn’t work, so techno’s build there is fully lost to time unless D decides to share that world download as well

speaking of the other portal, it sometimes you spawn in there when traveling from the nether back

i found a big cat statue on one of foolish’ pyramids… i dont remember the name of it im sorry…

ill edit with more stuff if i find something else

edit: i say things still work because i didnt thought they would from moving the world to a single player world, i also find it exciting to see those things work as i remembered from streams :')

edit: for the egg my theory is that the original egg was destroyed during the red banquet then recreated on the museum and that’s why they cgi’d it on the whole so they wouldn’t have to build it a third time 😭
