Donald Duck is a selkie. One of Scrooge's ancestors was a selkie and the gene has just been recessive for centuries until Donald's bad luck struck and it just so happened to wake up in him. No one knew growing up except his parents and they took his coat away when he was like five or six because they were scared of losing him to the ocean. That's the reason his voice sounds the way it does.

They never told anyone, including Donald. I imagine that after they died and the twins moved in with Scrooge that it just got shoved in a box and stashed somewhere in the attic or something. Point is, no one knows that Donald is a selkie. All they know is that he's a bit of a weird kid who just so happens to stare at the ocean just a little too intently when he sees it (Scrooge just thinks its wanderlust, Della just thinks he's a weirdo).

It surprisingly wasn't that bad in the navy. It was almost like the closer he got to the water the more at home he felt which is why he got a houseboat to raise the boys on.

Anyways, life goes on pretty normally (and I'm gonna place this in like about halfway through season three) until on one adventure that Donald happened to come on, they encounter a whole group of selkies. Nothing bad happens, but they all kinda keep giving each other looks and staring really pointedly at Donald which he thinks is weird but might just be because of his voice.

He also notices that he feels this ache in his chest when he gets too close to them, like the ache he gets when he looks out at the ocean. Eventually a conversation gets started between him and the group and the selkies are dropping all these hints about being one of them that are just fucking jumping over Donald's head until one of them gets tired and just straight up asks him if he ever aches for the ocean.

He's a little caught off guard at first but begins to open up about how sometimes he feels like the waves are trying to pull him closer and about the ache he gets. At this point the selkies kind of raise their eyebrows at each other as they all collectively realize that this random ass dude with a whole family of non selkie ducks is one of them.

They then try to shift the topic over to his coat to try and find out how much the guy knows and if he's gonna be alright. So out comes the question, "Do you have a favorite coat?" Donald blinks in surprise. It was kind of a random question. He looked between the three people seated across from him and noticed not for the first time that they all had on beautiful white fur coats.

He was suddenly reminded of his childhood and absently started recounting his memory, "I remember having a coat when I was really little that I absolutely loved. It really was the best thing. It was so white it almost looked blue and it was the softest thing I've ever touched. And sometimes-" (here he leaned in like he was whispering a fatal secret) "when I would sit and wear it I could swear that I could hear the ocean waves crashing into shore,"

Well any doubt the selkies may have had before before was completely gone now. They start hatching a scheme to get him to stay with them (pure intentions, but poorly executed) and end up kind of kidnapping him. This leads to the McDuck and co going on an adventure to get him back where they possibly discover his true nature.

Maybe due to both being around others of his kind and the ocean in a sacred selkie place Donald starts to get ill without his coat so then everyone else is freaking out trying to find it.

Cancel culture may not be “real” or lasting or whatever, but people DO need to be held accountable for the shitty things they’ve done or said. If you dig into anyone’s past you’re bound to find something you don’t like. It’s part of the human experience to learn and grow from past mistakes, to recognize when you’ve had a bad take that was based in ignorance or hatred. And although I myself have been struggling with forgiving people for things, I can at least appreciate when an artist calls themselves out or makes some type of apology in regards to the not great things they’ve done.

So please stop trying to “point out” things from Kendrick Lamar’s past as an example of why he should be canceled while completely ignoring the fact that his entire discography has been about his journey of healing and growth. I don’t care if you don’t listen to rap. If you bothered to go through his music you’d know that he’s mentioned time and time again that he’s not a perfect person, that he’s done bad things and that he’s put in the work to fix it. This man has rapped about being in therapy. He’s rapped about wanting to be a better role model for his children and community. He grappled with the guilt he felt for making music that contributed to stereotypes or lined the pockets of people who didn’t have his best interest in mind. He rapped about the pain he watched his mother go through, the pain he caused his wife by not being a better spouse. He rapped about the horrors he endured as a child and a teen and how much he’s grown from the dark place he was in bc of it.

If you want to get into his music and you don’t know where to start, just start at the beginning. Kendrick tells a story through his music. It’s a story of evolution and redemption that feels very, very genuine. And LISTEN to the lyrics. Actually try to understand what he’s saying bc even when you think it’s obvious what he’s talking about, I promise you it’s not. He won a Pulitzer for a reason. Another thing you have to understand is that he makes a lot of references to Black American culture, which is very widely copied, but rarely understood or acknowledged. And most of these references are made as a sort of protest.

I’m not here to make anyone feel bad about not knowing Black culture in America and how it differs from other American cultures, but it’s worth understanding, especially if you listen to rap, hip-hop, pop, country, jazz, rock, blues, etc. These are all genres that are rooted in Black American culture and most of them were made to protest oppressive systems. If you love Nirvana then you should understand where Kurt’s influence came from and how he was heavily against racism. If you like country music then you should know where it comes from. If you can listen to BTS and read all the translations of their songs, then you can at least try to understand rap lyrics on a deeper level.

There’s no shame in educating yourself.

You should watch/read One Piece

!!!! Please note that all of these are just my opinions!!!!

I know, I know. You're probably thinking to yourself, "Ugh, Bubbly I've heard this argument so many times before. There's no way I'm getting into One Piece! It's way too long! There's no way the story can be anything other than dry and repetitive after that long of a run."

And maybe you're right, It's all up to your opinion really, but just because you've heard other people make that argument doesn't mean you shouldn't at least give it a try!

Yes One Piece is a very long running story that seemingly never ends (been running for over 20 years!), but believe it or not the story still manages to stay pretty fresh and keeps up with the times pretty well (Given how popular it still is after all this time). Personally I think it's a good thing that One Piece has been ongoing for so long.

I think that's given the story enough time to really come into its own and allowed the mangaka to really get a grasp on how he wants his story to play out (and eventually end). I think that because the story has been able to grow and take off for so long it's also given the characters and the world they live in time to grow and change too. Looking back none of them are the same person as when the story started. All of them have been through so many different things and they've all been able to grow and improve. In a lot of ways the people consuming the story have been able to kind of grow alongside the characters.

I know that at first One Piece also just seems like another dumb fight to fight anime, but I don't think that's the case at all! On a surface appearance the series can kind of come off as a bunch of goofy pirates picking fights with each other to claim the title of royalty, but there are so many different times where One Piece really does get into some deep topics. And not just like in the oh-you-blinked-and-its-gone way, but the characters constantly have to face off against people and ideals that are blatantly bad. Things like slavery, grief, loneliness, abuse, genocide, and abuse of power are really just the tip of a very very large iceberg.

Also if you love things like the found family trope then One Piece might have a lot of stuff for you. One thing that I absolutely adore about One Piece is that there are so many different portrayals of family! It's also not just the main characters who get to have really strong bonds between themselves (and believe me they do), but everywhere they go they stumble across people who just love each other so much that they stick together no matter what. People who go through life together and forge bonds with the people they go through it with! Not just the main characters, but villains, side characters, allies, enemies, background characters, everyone!

Everywhere you look in One Piece there are characters who either love their families so much they would do anything for them, or people who love themselves so much that they break away from their "families" to build one of their own with people whom they trust their life with. One thing that's really special to me is that none of the main characters really had a conventional family. Basically all of them came from a found family unit that they had built up over the years. I love that because I feel like it kind of breaks away from that sad anime stereotype where when a character loses someone in their family they get stuck on it while One Piece goes to show that yeah that person can never be replaced, but there are always other people out there who want your love and want to love you too.

ANother thing I love about One Piece are the depictions of grief.

Now I'm not saying that you have to go watch One Piece and that you're gonna love it because it might not work out that way. Maybe you'll watch the first two or three episodes and decide it's just not your cup of tea. And that's okay! You don't have to like it! All I'm saying is to go and form your own opinions about it and to have fun with it!

best examples of slow burn you can think of? (i actually agree with your post i think we're losing the art of yearning nowadays)

i mean, i grew up with the x-files, so that's what my idea of an actual slow burn is like, and not just because it takes mulder and scully 7 (SEVEN!!!!!!!!!!) seasons to finally kiss, but because their progression from strangers to partners to friends to lovers is so gradual that the lines between all the different stages of their relationship are incredibly blurred, to the point that to this day fans of the series still argue over when exactly did they fall in love

another example of a good slow burn to me is, as cliche as it sounds, pride and prejudice. here the romance is the main focus of the story, but it's not born from an instant attraction: the characters (and the readers) actually need to learn more about each other before they can see the other's qualities and slowly fall in love with them

if we're talking about QLs, funnily enough the series that comes the closest to my idea of slow burn is still SOTUS. im fully aware that this show has its issues, but the pace and development in the romance between arthit and kongpob isn't one of them. honestly nobody can convince me that one of the main reasons it was able to gain so much popularity (other than being the first in the genre in so many ways) isn't because it's an actual slow burn with good pining, the kind of which we hardly ever get these days

other QL series that could fit my idea of slow burn are:

im being very generous rn tho. i'd argue that some of these aren't exactly slow burn but simply well developed romance ;;;;;;;;

i think censored chinese BL adaptations like the untamed would be the ones that come closer to my idea of slow burn, because the lack of kisses and sex scenes forces the narrative to actually build the relationship between the main leads to make the story compelling, but this of course opens up a whole different bag of issues (i WANT the kisses!!!!! i WANT the sex!!!!! it just would be nice not to have them by episode 5 and be left wondering why these characters even like each other!!!!!!!)

unfortunately i have to admit that procedural straight romances (castle, bones, chicago fire, etc.) are the ones that get the balance right most of the time

I can imagine Bubble working for Pomni and helping the others hunt down Caine. Such as giving away his location to other enemies, scaring him when he is hiding, throwing things at him or in his path when something is chasing him, making noise and throwing things to attract enemies towards him or stealing items from his inventory and hiding them and I think she would disturb him a lot during Pomni's games of hide and seek. I also think she would bring him food and eat it in front of him to tease him. Same with water bottles, take one and dump all the water in front of him with a sinister smile (If food and water bars are anything here) or if she's feeling kind put it in hard to reach places or near enemies.

Or we could also have a nicer Bubble, which I think is difficult but-

If Bubble is nice I can imagine her bringing him some items but placing them in high places for some challenge and giving him tips where important things or other enemies might be. I can also see her bringing him bottles of water and food. Or when he's stuck somewhere or at an enemy and can't get out of there, I can see her giving some tips on the 'game over' screen (If it exists.)

in an attempt to compensate for the overall hate sayaka got as a character i feel like a lot of people try to sympathize with her morally as a person by insisting she was fully, 100% altruistic in her motivations, that she ONLY cared about saving her bandmates. while she does genuinely love and consider them family i believe its a lot more fascinating to take into account the ways in which the idol industry hollow out sayaka, and how her initial dream (spreading love and hope to lonely people the same way the idols on TV saved her as a child) becomes twisted and forgotten in what she has to sacrifice for it, her wellbeing, authenticity, all for the sake of the image she has to put on to survive in such a competitive dehumanizing industry.....

all her sense of purpose and identity depends on her ult idol title, to the point where she considers murder and follows through with her plan. at some level of consciousness sayaka believes the ends justify the means, there is a fair degree of selfishness in her because she's nothing outside the success of her career. and then there's sayaka's hopeful, last act of true kindness (11037)

this is crucial to what ch1 means as the base of danganronpa, the deceit, first impressions, the way ultimate titles define them in such a world, its themes of fame, idolatry, talent & hard work... it sets the tone for all that comes next.
