All your free time away from college or work was spent on assignments. You didn’t even have time to be with your boyfriend anymore. Your sweet caring boyfriend with his southern charm and his readiness to help. Oh how you loved him. But recently you had begun an 8 week course in Geology and holy fuck was it killing you and it was barely the second week. You were at your wits end, you began losing yourself in all you had to worry about. You began withdrawing. You stopped being on socials, you hardly left your room, you barely ate. You had been doing your chapter 1 assignments and did a test which you bombed badly. You felt your eyes tear up as you shut your laptop in frustration. You felt so worthless and stupid. There was no way you didn’t understand a singular thing you read from the textbook. In your frustration you didn’t hear your home door open, revealing your most favorite person in the world.

“Hey darlin’.” He spoke softly, witnessing your mental breakdown. He quickly closed the door and wrapped his arms around you. “Hey baby, what’s wrong? You could use a break.” He smiled and you nodded as you followed behind him, grabbing your home keys to lock the door behind y’all as y’all left.

Once at Joel’s you plop down on his couch with a heavy sigh. He takes a seat beside your sprawled out limbs. “That bad huh?” He jokes which makes you scoff instead of laugh. “Yes!” You huff out. “It’s so stupid. I’m literally being torn apart in school and work and with my family it’s just impossible to breathe properly.. it’s so frustrating because I’m not so sure I even wanna finish college anymore.. and I can’t even tell my parents because I don’t wanna be a disappointment..” you began venting to your boyfriend. He simply nodded his head and remained silent, ever the good listener. When you finish spilling your guts to him he pulls you in his beefy arms. “There there princess. I can’t say much about this or say I feel the same but one thing I know for sure is that I’m proud of you. You work so hard and bust your ass, it’s very respectable. You could never be a disappointment and if they think so then fuck ‘em!” He exclaimed which made you chuckle. “And listen if you don’t wanna continue college and wanna break then that’s fine. I bet your noggin would really ‘ppreciate the break. I’ll support you in whatever you do mama.” Joel concludes as he presses a kiss to the crown of your head. His words hit your heart so damn hard it made you cry. For so long you felt misunderstood and felt like a failure for having these emotions but Joel didn’t think so. Joel understood you and didn’t think less of you for it and for that you were so thankful this gem of a man was all yours. With a shaky sigh you looked up at him with watery eyes. “I love you.” Was all you could say as you pressed your lips into his soft ones.

For the rest of the evening you stayed in and watched movies. He even ordered pizzas for you both to enjoy. You really needed this moment, really needed this break, really needed him. You knew whatever life threw your way you’d be able to withstand it because you had someone as supportive as Joel by your side. You still were stressed with everything happening around you but it all felt more tolerable and doable with Joel’s arms around you.

This is very much a jokes only kind of place. I cannot and will not ever accuse someone I don’t know of being queer because it’s none of my damn business. George is entirely entitled to his own privacy and frankly it’s just as likely he’s straight as he is not. And either way it’s none of my business. I’ve been asked a couple times who I think could be ACTUALLY queer on the grid and while I may have that conversation with trusted friends in private, I won’t on tumblr. I’m not gonna give homophobes more bait to sling.

I DO still engage in joking about it, because I am a queer person and it can be liberating and fun to take things that you had slung at you and play with them. It takes the barbs out of it. Y’all don’t know how many times I was told I walked or acted gay before I’d even figured out I was Bi. And it’s pretty common for queer people to take those labels now and turn them from insults into solidarity. I do sit funny, I am camp as the day is long, I do stand exactly like George did in that photo. I like to call George a lesbian because it’s reclaiming something homophobes used as an insult but frankly I think should be a fuckin compliment! Have you seen the dress sense on most lesbians? They fuckin rule.

I just need y’all to know that I met Din Djarin at Disney World over a week ago.

I was not prepared for how polite and sweet he was. Like, y’all don’t undertsand. I’m STILL thinking about that. Do NOT fall for his tough guy persona he puts up for his job. That man is without a doubt all soft under that armor.

I’ll put my experience under the cut but I do want to say many thanks to the wonderful friend of Din Djarin that greeted me that day. Cast members rock and he was no exception.

The Technical Stuff:

Okay, so beforehand, I searched online when was the best to see him and how since Din doesn’t have a set meet and greet in the parks. Din and Grogu typically come out of a literal hole in the wall on the far end of the marketplace (coming in the marketplace from the First Order side of the land) and they make their way through the market. Also, since this is a different meet and greet, how to approach them is different than usual meets. Din chooses who to interact with, and it’s never a guarantee if you will get picked. The best chance of getting picked??? Get there early. On the day I visited, I checked the My Disney Experience App to see they made appearances on the hour from official opening (so like 8:30 AM) until 3:00 PM. (And Disney is always punctual so you can guarantee that)

If you read all of that and were thinking “this is way too tedious to see one of the most popular characters” you would be correct. But I don’t make the rules, and I was very desperate to meet him.

Before Meeting The Mandalorian:

At about 10 minutes before he was scheduled to arrive, I was met by a lovely young lady who was already waiting for her man (I know I fellow Din lover when I see one). She confirmed the information I mentioned above because my family just didn’t believe me when I said I knew what I was doing. Because of this, I sat just behind her in hopes that she got picked first because she called first dibs lol.

After 10 minutes, Din came strutting out with Grogu in sling and handlers in tow. At this point, I was loosing hold of my facial expressions. I’m pretty sure I looked like

I don’t think I’d been that excited to meet a character at Disney since Aurora and Mulan when I was a little girl.

The handlers made sure there was enough space for Din and Grogu as suddenly, in the short span of time it took for Din to walk up, there was a small crowd forming and people calling over that the Mandalorian had arrived. The lady who arrived before me was called up first and she had her moment with Din and Grogu. Very happy for her. And then there was another before me. And then it was my turn :0)

The Actual Meet:

When I stood beside Din Djarin he immediately commented on my Mandalorian shirt (yes I wore a Din focus shirt in hopes I’d get picked, don’t look at me). He motioned to my shirt and said (all of this is approximate btw) “Your allegiance is appreciated.” And I want to say he shook my hand? He was shaking a lot of hands. Like I said, he was polite! Anyways I was like, “Of course!” And then I went into a short spiel about how his and Grogu’s stories have traveled across the stars and how much they meant to me (super cheesy I know, but let me have my moment). But y’all. His response??? The softest, “Thanks☺️”

I almost died. Melted on the spot. And his body language was kinda like “aw shucks ☺️☺️☺️” (as close as a mandalorian can get to that). The worms in my brain will hold onto that one for a while.

Finally we took a picture, and when all was said and done, he turned to me, nodded, and said the ever famous line, “This is the way.”

Grogu:

Grogu was not in the picture during this interaction. 😂😂😂 I’m ashamed to say that I totally forgot about him. He was very quiet!!! And he was on the other side and I wasn’t about to stare past a man’s hip. I like to think he was in his own little baby world during the whole meet.

MY WAITING ROOM.

Y’all asked for it, so here I go! It’s taken a bit to get my thoughts in order, but I appreciate your patience! <3

So, basically, my WR is a huge mansion where I live alone so I can decompress and be away from people for as long as I want to. Like most WRs out there, the time ratio is so wild that it makes my WR exist pretty much outside of time. (I think it’s like 100 years = 1 second or something like that?)

The house itself is a combination of royaltycore and rococo style, with some cherry blossom designs peppered in among the white marble that is most of the interior. The majority of my WR’s color scheme is white and pink! As far as the layout goes, I have pretty much anything I could ever want in a place I use to unwind. I have a movie room with a conversation pit, an indoor pool, a game room, all the Lego sets and jigsaw puzzles I could ever want, a library, and more! The library even has all my favorite fanfictions in book form, and if they’re incomplete in my OR, they are finished in my WR. I can also watch any fanfiction as a TV show or movie if I want to! OH! I also have an AI assistant like JARVIS. Her name is SOLACE, which stands for “Super Optimized Limitless and Convenient Entity.” She is just like JARVIS in that she is fairly sentient and can perform any task I ask of her.

Also in this DR I have two cats! The first is an Abyssinian named Maple, my precious baby angel. The second is Percival Fredrickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III, or Percy for short. He’s a gray Norwegian Forest cat and an asshole (but I love him). Neither I nor my cats have to eat, so I don’t have to worry about meal prep or stuff like that unless I want to experience the taste of food for fun. And my cats are immortal bc why not shjghjdfkjkd

Inside the house, there’s a device that I so creatively named the Summoner. Essentially, if I want to be social, I use that to invite people. No one visits otherwise. I can invite people from any DR as well as people I know or knew in my OR. 

If I so choose, I can also shift to my other DRs from my WR. In a special room in the house, I can use a dial next to a specific door to choose which DR I want to shift to, open the door, lay down on the bed in the room, and when I wake up, I’m in the DR. Simple!

Oh! This is what my normal bedroom looks like btw! You enter the room on the first floor and my bed is up that spiral staircase there. The ceiling above my bed is covered in stars and constellations <3

I hate the way this fandom is attacking each other and I feel bad for you because I do not think you asked for or started any of this. You simply gave your interpretation and theories of a show based on books and some people took that and twisted it and now it’s turning into something else.

Are parts of this fandom racist? YES. And whether we want to admit it or not, I’ve seen the most racist takes from many individuals WHITE and BLACK alike. I’ve seen some of the most hypocritical meta’s ever that support Louis and then others that support Lestat. I’ve seen some racisit shit said and everyone is nodding their head like there is nothing wrong. I’ve seen some individuals fly off the handle and start screaming racism all because someone dared to critique Louis or Claudia. And I’m not sure where the notion comes from that black people can’t be racist toward white people or racist toward other black people because I see this everyday and this is coming from a black person. I’m not sure where the notion comes from that there isn't racism taking place in the fandom and all blacks are being sensitive, they aren’t. Each situation is individual, and much like real life, there are shitty blacks and shitty whites and we shouldn’t lump all Lestat lovers into a category or all Louis stans into a category. We shouldn't assume all whites are racist and we shouldn’t assume all blacks are being aggressive or sensitive. Do y’all know how many problems could have been solved if people just discussed or educated each other instead of name calling and calling people out and responding with vitriol? Damn, let Jacob and Sam set the example. They disagree and discuss and don't let this shit bother them on a personal level. You know what I respect most about your takes? You never tried to reduce your takes on these characters based on their race.

Nalyra, keep being you, if they don’t like it, they can block you. I sincerely hope you aren’t stressing over this shit. You’re above it. You don't deserve any of this bullshit.

Honestly, over a year ago, when this started… I was very taken aback. I have never experienced something like this and I come from Hannibal lol. And btw that is what I mean when I say this has been ongoing. The latest iteration is just that - the latest iteration. Babes. I really appreciate all the asks about Daughter of Fire! It makes me happy to see that people love it as much as I do, I just gotta ask something of y’all. Please leave a review before sending an ask here! I noticed a lot of you don’t do that (not to mention the anon asks that I can’t possibly know if they did comment or not) and I just wanna explain a bit why it matters. I don’t know if u guys have been around here for as long as I have but the fandom culture changed a lot over the years, not all of it for the better. Five, ten years ago, it used to be the norm to comment on almost every single fic you read, in every chapter. There used to be discussions in the comment section, readers answering readers and sparking conversation… just genuinely a lot more interaction than nowadays. I’ve mentioned this before but I felt like writing another post about it.

Please notice that I’m not saying “don’t ever send me an ask about DoF again” or “you should be giving me comments NOW!!!”. I’ve just been scrolling through my endless unanswered asks and noticed that there were a lot like those I mentioned.

Now, I know sometimes it’s hard to send a review. I, myself, sometimes get so anxious just by the thought of writing a comment that I just don’t even read the fic/chapter. But notice how this is aimed towards the people who already took the time off their day to sit down on Tumblr and send me an ask. It would take the same amount of time to drop a review! And you can even do it anonymously too!

Anyways, this isn’t a complaint, I’m just always a bit sad to see that this is the way we led fandom culture? I know it might seem a bit disingenuous to be saying that when DoF has the reach it has but keep in mind that I also write other fics and most of them only get a little bit of engagement. It’s honestly disheartening because while I don’t write fanfiction for the comments, I do share it for them. I could just write them and satisfy that need and keep it to myself, never putting myself out there so others might judge me but I do because I love the fanfiction community and I love interacting with it.

I also noticed that authors who don’t have their social media linked tend to have more engagement in the comment section and that’s kinda what this post is about. Although we don’t comment as much as we did back in the days, it’s still the way some people choose to give fics their time of day, they see if there’s a lot of hits/kudos/comments before even giving it a try. So it does matter in a way that the engagement gets through other media only like some of the asks here! I’m not saying stop interacting with me here and keep only to the comment section, even because I chose to link all my social media because I love interacting w y’all in a deeper level here and on twt and other platforms but like. If you do choose to reach out to me, don’t forget to leave a review!

As I’m writing this I’m already regretting it lmao I don’t want to seem ungrateful and nitpicky but in the end I’m forcing myself to post this because it might spark some conversation and I do know a lot of authors feel like I do. We’re seeing how much writing isn’t being valued in our society and that’s kind of the same in fandom culture imo and I dunno. What do y’all think?

Oh, btw! Regarding the next DoF update!!! I can’t, and really it’s more like I don’t want to, give you guys a precise date. I struggled for quite some time with feeling like DoF was a chore, a job I had to keep up otherwise I would let everyone down and that (and some other stuff) led me to the biggest writer’s block I’ve ever had in my life. I’m just now trying to reconnect with that part of me that loves writing and finds actual enjoyment in tackling this huge and complex fic (and any and all writing tbh), so I don’t want to slip back into that same pattern I had before. I don’t like the term hiatus for fanfiction because it gives me this notion that the author is obligated to go back to the fic when in fact they’re not (unless the fic has a set update schedule and the author is letting u know when they’ll be back). No one is getting paid for this and most of us study and work full time jobs before coming and sharing something that can be really personal with strangers on the internet. If an author wants to drop their fic and never come back to fandom life than that’s their prerogative. We as fanfic readers kinda sign that unwritten contract that when we start reading an unfinished fic we might never get to see the end of it. However, I like the term hiatus because it illustrates my point with this which is: I’m not done with Daughter of Fire. I just don’t know when I’ll update next. Rest assured that if I ever decided to let it go, I would let everyone know. I would release all the chapters I have written, I would give y’all all of my notes and unfinished drafts and lone scenes, I would give you the document where I tell you step by step what would happen until the very end of the fic (and the sequel I have planed for it 👀). And I would also leave it open to anyone who wants to continue it to pick it up and give it a try. As it stands, I’m nowhere near done with Daughter of Fire 🖤
