Tell us one of your unpopular bsd opinion
*Spoiler alert!
I feel like what Fyodor was to Nikolai was the same as what Oda was to Dazai, Both nikolai and dazai's life changed a lot after meeting them(maybe not in a same way but they found someone they could really call their friend). and if you remember when nikolai was holding fyodor's severed arm in the end it looked like dazai understood what nikolai felt(to have someone who understands you)

I've read a few fanfictions now where Oda and Chuuya would be good friends had Dazai introduced them. But I don't think that would be the case.
While I can see Oda being pretty neutral towards Chuuya I just can't see Chuuya liking Oda.
In my opinion Cuuya would positively despise Oda. And why? Because of the way Oda treated Dazai.
Chuuya would watch these two interacting for a few minutes, would see how Oda keeps enabling Dazai's bad and self destructing behavior and would immediately hate him.
This picture shows what could have been pretty well I think.
Oda looks at Dazai and what he is doing, not able to see Chuuya because the red head is standing in the shadows.
Chuuya looks at Oda with a rather unfriendly expression that practically screams "don't you dare come closer". He let's Dazai sit in the light but keeps him distracted with letting him play with his hat, keeping him away from Oda.
Chuuya wouldn't have a problem with Oda showing Dazai the Light, showing him what the light can be. However, he wouldn't want Oda to be all that close to Dazai BECAUSE he keeps enabling him in all his self destruction.
Dazai and Chuuya look out for each other since they met, each in their own way.
While Dazai keeps reminding Chuuya that he is human and does what he can to stop his friend from thinking that way, Chuuya stops Dazai from doing various forms of self harm and snaps him out of negative spirals all the time.
Chuuya would despise Oda for letting Dazai self harm and spiral. And he would want to claw Odas eyes out if he knew that he told Dazai that nothing can fill the emptiness in Dazai.

I don't often talk about bsd here (dont even know why lol), but I just wanted to mention the thing that really bothers me and It's Teruko. Don't get me wrong, I love her, but what I really dislike about her is the way she looks and acts like a litteral child. No, It's not that "you see all short people as children, hr bad", I litterally am very short and people usually don't even believe me when I say my real age and they think Im 10-13 for some reason, but there is a clear difference between a short GROWN UP person (both teen and adult) and a child who's short just bc It's a child. And the way they portray short women as actual kids also annoys me, but that's not tge thing
My main problem is the way she ACTS. It's not about her emotionality or being autistic (as It's with Ranpo prolly), or anything that could justify this, this is it, Isagiri just wanted to make a loli girl who's in fact in her 30s-40s, but who look and act like a 10yo child. Like, I understand everything, but we already have Elise, why making Teruko this way too?
Yeah, yeah, even if we can say that Teruko is comfortable with this look or that she pretends so to do smth, but the way she acts just doesn't have any explanation. This is NOT how grown up women act, It's just a little sis who was taken at the job by ger brother bc parents wanted a day-off. It's anything, but a grown up soldier woman, I just refuse to believe in it.
And uf we say "well, the age she choses affects on her behavior and she actually feels this way", it wouldnt make it any less weird. Then why does she look this age if there is no need for her to be Like this when they are alone with no enemies around. And anyways, her crush on Fukuchi looks even more weird this way. Like girl, chill, that's your grandfather, not a boyfriend 😭😭
And the whole "b-but Ranpo also acts childish, so ur mysigonistic" doesn't work here at least bc 1. Ranpo doesn't pretend to be a kid and he doesn't act like a 10yo child, he's just silly, lazy and likes sweets, that's his personality and it its him and 2. He LOOKS at his age.
And I really would like Teruko much more if she either most of the time she would be like an adult or at least a teen girl
OR was an actual KID, which would be even better and Imo would make her much more interesting!

unpopular opinion but i actually see Kouyou as the possible next Boss of the Port Mafia 👀
like ppl talk abt it being Chuuya but imo… Chuuya : Ranpo :: Kouyou : Kunikida
(Chuuya & Ranpo being the “hearts” of their orgs while Kouyou & Kunikida are the “heads”)

Thank you for your reply!
And yeah, I mean when Chuuya shows up the first time in the manga and Dazai says that he sent a letter so Chuuya can't kill him, and oops Chuuya broke the chains so it looks like he broke Dazai out. His plan to me seemed like a bit of a plot hole at first because Chuuya is stronger and there's a bunch of cells and chains at his convenience in the mafia dungeon, and even without that there's nothing stopping him from continuing to punch Dazai...but part of me wonders if they both chose to ignore that on purpose and that is very funny to me. What's your take on that scene?
I have the unpopular opinion Dazai was 100% bullshitting his way through that encounter with Chuuya. Yes he could have escaped earlier, but he was waiting for a specific moment to do so. He was estimating the timing of what the others were doing. This is happening while sskk are having their battle on the ship and the ADA just got Ranpo on finding them. I fully believe that when Chuuya showed up it was a "oh no a sudden obstacle has appeared" situation to Dazai:
They bicker and fight like we've grown used to them doing, though Chuuya is the most violent he's been to him since he rammed him into a wall when they first met. There is pent up frustration and anger there. It's also Chuuya's introduction, so we quickly need to establish that he's strong, prone to getting annoyed by Dazai, and looks very cool. I'm serious his solo panels are so extra.
When Chuuya finally asks Dazai why he stayed captured instead of escaping, Dazai has to take a moment to think before answering him:
What happens here is that Dazai starts by saying the truth, that he let himself be captured to know who wants Atsushi. That destabilizes Chuuya, because Dazai helping someone isn't something Chuuya is used to. This leads to Chuuya taunting Dazai for having "gone soft" and revealing that he just came back from a mission:
Chuuya put himself at a disadvantage that way: if he was away and just came back, he is not aware of all the details and recent developments. Look at the bottom right panel on the second page ^, all black with a thinking bubble. Dazai just got an idea. Dazai can use this.
"if that were true, they should have contacted..." <- Chuuya wasn't told about any executive meeting because Dazai is making it up right now. There was no letter. Dazai is making up a dilemma for Chuuya to get stuck on, with just enough plausibility that Chuuya can't immediately brush it off.
Plus, when Chuuya is finally cornered, he simply assumes Dazai one-upped him again by turning his own words against himself:
When he walks in:
When Dazai corners him:
When Chuuya first said he was here to spite him, Dazai looked tense. When Chuuya remembers it, it's to Dazai's little "yep" + looking away pretending this was aaaaall planned and not at all something he just came up with.
Dazai is the "improvise adapt overcome" king, I have no doubts he enjoyed making Chuuya squirm, but I don't believe he stayed for that at all. It was just a surprise treat.
Chuuya absolutely had more options than killing Dazai or letting him escape there. There really wouldn't have been any surprise to Chuuya going "yeah so I broke his restraints and then put him back sorry". He just sort of gave up the idea of holding Dazai back in any way. Yeah he could have chained him up. Dazai would have escaped anyway. Chuuya knew Dazai was only waiting for something.
And you want me to believe Mori was aware they captured and chained Dazai and expected him to stay there? They have the same escape artist hobby. Mori was taking bets with Kouyou for how long it would take Dazai to get out. Mori wants Dazai back: chapter 10-11 are in the 3rd volume, and the bonus of the 4th volume is Chuuya drunkenly calling Dazai to complain about the boss telling him he wishes Dazai would come back. Why would killing Dazai even be on the table?
My final thoughts though is BSD is a live series that has been going on for over 10 years, and it's expected that some details would change as time goes on. Dazai asked Chuuya why he bought his hat. Dazai of all people should know what the hat represents. Asagiri just didn't know yet what the hat would mean because this was chapter 10 and Chuuya was just introduced. So everything is to take with a grain of salt.

idk it's especially funny to me that the Western fandom has so much difficulty comprehending bsd!Mori since he's the house that the Western lens built. but he's not a personification of theoretical utilitarianism; he's a military doctor who has at least thrice (the great war, the pm under the old boss, the dragon head conflict) witnessed chaos beget violence, instability, and mass suffering. once you recognize (1) the difference between his means and his end and (2) that his fatal flaws are rooted in his stubborness and pride, he's an immensely sympathetic, human, and even compassionate character whose sharp cruelty serves his immense faith in order as a salve for chaos, instability, and senseless death.
mori is not motivated by control, and he does not undervalue the sanctity of human life. he is obsessed with control as a means for upholding the sanctity of life.
(there's a reason he still wears his lab coat while running errands as a civilian so many years after retiring his medical practice, and why, as stated in Stormbringer, medical professionals are so valued and elevated in the port mafia. mori is, above all else, a doctor. and very proud of it.)
