↪being a single mother always had it's up and downs - the downs mainly coming from the dating side of your life. most people unfortunately didn't want the extra person or if they did they couldn't sit with the fact that it wasn't theirs.

↪you had come to accept that this would be the majority reaction and so you didn't care as much and even put dating to the bottom of your list of priorities. you wanted to spend more time focusing on yourself and your child.

↪ you had noticed more recently that there had been a calico around, your child would always be playing with the cat. you thought it was sweet and sometimes when you tried to usher your child back home with you, they'd give you a pouty face and you'd almost felt bad.

↪you had met natsume a couple of weeks after the calico sightings. he was a gentleman through and through and was a kind man who listened to you. he seemed to know exactly how to make your heart swoon and it was a welcome change.

↪eventually, you managed to end up on a date with him. you realised then and there you hadn't once mentioned that you were infact a mother and so you planned to tell him then. you didn't want to catch feelings just for him to turn away at the moment you mentioned your child.

↪you shrunk in on yourself when you slowly mentioned your child, assuming he would make that same face everyone else did - a face that contorted into discomfort but they were always too polite to say anything to your face, just the same message the next day.

↪to your surprise he only seemed to light up. he offered you a gentle smile and asked about your child, you were in a slight shock to answer properly but affter seeing how he genuinely wasn't uncomfortable you slowly started telling him about your child. the entire time he held a gentle smile as he could tell you feared it'd put him off.

↪after your first date you could tell you were in deep. the mere thought of natsume made you smile like a lovesick fool and the fact that he hadn't shunned you for being a single mother only made you get rid of all the wall you put between yourself and others.

↪it would take a couple more dates and for the two of you to decide this was a serious relationship before he met your child. natsume had some slight trepidations about meeting your child, he feared slightly that perhaps they wouldn't accept him as he wasn't there original father but those worries soon melted away.

↪ especially when your child's first impression of your new lover was one you hadn't expected and caught both of you off guard - they pointed out how he looked like the cat they saw but you laughed it off as a coincidence.

↪natsume and your child got along all too well. he indulged your child in whatever idea or request they had but stull knew how to keep a slightly strict attitude when it came to outlandish requests or misbehaviour. your child simply adored him and would practically be hanging off his leg.

↪soon enough natsume would join you on your family outings with your child. if anyone saw you three together they could easily mistake natsume as the original father. sometimes that idea seemed daunting as you felt like you shouldn't impose your child on natsume like this but he always assured you he didn't mind.

↪days easily blurred into weeks and months with natsume around. your lover ever so doting on both you and your child's needs, you felt bad he did so much for the two of you but you loved how naturally he fit into both of your lives.

↪natsume sometimes went away for a night or two and he always assured you it was work - he always returned with something for both you and your child. when he went away you'd notice that same calico's presence around you and your child, like it was protecting the both of you.

↪you joked about adopting it or something to natsume once or twice and he only smiled back. he'd listen to how you felt like it was a protective charm when he was away, a sign that he would return and he smiled more before kissing the crown of your head and promising that he'd always protect you and your child.

↪the family he felt slightly nervous about joining as he feared your kid wouldn't like him but now he couldn't imagine himself anywhere else apart from with his family.

My thoughts in Natsume and Mori's relationship are... Not too easy to explain????

But this will be a little long because of the pictures I'm sorry

The stare Ougai gives to Natsume, I don't know if hate but the anger, how probably he thinks his sensei is "mistreating" him

Not only that, Ougai didn't join in his plans because Natsume was a great person, because they got along... Mori never said that, he only thought in the city he loves a lot

Also since Natsume is a reference to the real life author Natsume, we have to consider the author's personality, way to be, his angry issues and also this quote in an article that one of his grandkids did about him... Horrible person, horrible attitudes but still a author that was loved except for his family

I remember someone told be about one of Natsume's work that there was a sensei with a younger boy that had the heart broken... That sounds too Mori after everything what happened in The Dancing Girl because it was devastating but again I'm sorry I don't remember it well

What you say actually makes sense because the original book is more related to a self discovery based on the past experiences and the visions of others at the moment to compare «sexual life» you know?

I haven't said this on Tumblr but on Instagram yes: Mori treated different both of them, not because it was a boy and a girl. It's more deep than that, we have to consider Mori's different vision on them + context (War and Port Mafia, different circumstances)

I want to add this:

I don't know you guys, but I personally understand here that he didn't join because of Natsume. He joined the tactic because of the city, not the sensei

How Mori looks at Natsume...

I'm not good at emotions but he doesn't look to happy to see his sensei at all, specially with that dialogue like "You should believe more in me" and

I don't know if you see the same as me but like... More than surprised he looks horrified in a way?

A lot of people are going to hate me for this, but

Analysis on why Mori treats Yosano and Dazai differently. So, both Dazai and Yosano are implied in the narrative to represent Mori's "children" figures, but for very different reasons. Yosano was a rebel and carefree child with a strong personality, and Mori says that "her fortitude was amazing". We can notice that he was really friendly with her at first. He really admired her, and in particular the way she spoke back and fought against authority, a thing that Mori never really had but wished to have. In short, young Yosano represented what Mori aspired to be. That is why Elise was modeled after her, because abilities in bsd's world are tied with the user's soul. I think that many people misinterpreted Vita Sexualis, it has never been said that ot represents what Mori is attracted sexually too, but it represents what Mori desires. Elise is also a symbol of Mori's guilt, for traumatizing Yosano in that way during the war. He never intended to hurt Yosano in any way because he cared about her, but he felt obligated to do it for the "greater good". Now, let's talk about Dazai. We can see that even from the start, Mori doesn't treat Dazai the way you would normally treat a 14 yrs old, but he treats him like an adult, sort of like he was one of the people working with him. Then plan strategies together, they talk about cruel acts without any bother, and Dazai becomes his right-hand man. This is because Mori knew that Dazai was a really smart, intelligent and dark soul. Mori treated young Dazai so differently because he said multiple times that he reminded him of himself. I think that no one would want to see the darkness that they had in themselves everyday, like a reminder of all those terrible things. Dazai was Mori's reality, the cold truth that he is supposed to serve the city and commit terrible acts for the greater good, while Yosano was his dream of becoming careless.

(This is just my very very personal interpretation ofc!! Everyone has their own opinions which I totally respect. Also, sorry if I wrote anything wrong, I am so sorry lol.)

It’s said that Natsume Soseki came up with it after overhearing a student translate “I love you” to Japanese in a very literal sense. While there is no source confirming that this exchange actually happened, I still think a scene referencing the expression with Natsume randomly appearing would be hilarious

Wanna know what else I'm obsessed with?

It's Natsume. Lots of people forget about him or never even really noticed him. but I did and he is honestly the most unsettling character to me.

He is constantly around Dazai, watching throughout 15 and dark era and he spies on the agency/Dazai? in the present timeline too.

He appears around PM Dazai all the time unless he is with Mori or Chuuya but not Odasaku. He watched the lupin trio.

It's not just the watching, it's the interfering. He gave Oda that book, that book that made Oda who he is and in turn made Dazai who he is.

Was Mori really the only one who made the decisions about Oda dying? Why was there no other choice unless it was a part of a bigger plan?

He put Mori in a prime position where he would be called upon to treat the old mafia boss, where he could learn and understand that the city was falling apart. For a lot of that time the person giving him orders was Natsume.

Natsume was the one who hired Fukuzawa to be Mori's body guard.

Natsume was the one who made the detective agency a possibility.

He is the one who put Mori and Fukuzawa in charge of opposite organisations. What else did he do?

How did Mori find Yosano? Where did Dazai come from? How did the guild know about Atsushi?

Time and time again Natsume shows up to create a chain of events leading up to creating a perfect pair who could cause devastation and/or save the city.

He started with Mori and Fukuzawa, Mori who would continue this line of succession by creating soukoku, Dazai and Chuuya. Mori even quotes something Natsume told him. "only diamonds can polish diamonds."

Dazai, with Natsume possibly guiding him, goes on to find his own diamonds to be polished and creates Shin soukoku.

Everything that has happened can stem from Natsume, a character we rarely see and isn't outwardly stated as important. What is he hiding?

If i had a nickel for every time a Port Mafia assassin was conviced to stop killing by someone who can turn into a cat so they could learn the value of life, died saving someone, and started to protect/take care of a child in the middle of a abilities conflict, i would have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

- he absolutly hates having his hair down and having his bangs in front of his face like in the oav so he put heavy amont of hair gel that makes his hair feel kinda like cardboard

- he was a troublemaker as a kid

- he's cisgender in a very transgender way. he considers himself a boy only because he was born as one and never really thought about it or feel any connexion to it despite having a schlong. like he's kinda gender apathetic

- it's not a rat tail!!! it's some sort of weird jellyfish haircut he only ties the lower layer and use way too much hair gel

- during his earlier years at the agency he used to have depressive episodes, where he forgot his ideals and bedrotted for days. now he feels so awful about it that he doesn't allow himself to take such breaks

- he likes poetry, mostly romanticism and naturalism. he sometimes writes some himself and has a notebook for it. Dazai found it and thinks his writing style is cringe and corny (he's kinda right...)

- he has a weird laugh, like an ugly one but it's cute

- once he came up with a schedule for katai and katai didn't even look at it

- fukuchi always has a favorite in the hunting dogs, sometimes it's tachihara, sometimes teruko, sometimes jouno but it's never tecchou. they're all kinda his children and tecchou is the least favorite💔

- he got fangs like a cat. he's literally just a big cat

- tachihara saw fukuchi as a father figure. he used to admire him a lot and think he was super cool so he sometimes copied his posture or mannerisms. im saying that bcs of this artwork! like look he's literally copying him they're so cute😭

↪out of anything natsume would try and predict you telling him when you started a sentence with 'i have something to tell you', he would not guess that his granddaughter would be joining the port mafia. reasonably, it threw him off guard and he resisted the urge to openly show his shock.

↪he understood the fact that it was your life and you could do what you wanted with it but he still felt like he should openly show his hesitation. it wasn't really the fact that you were joining but it was more that he didn't want you getting caught up in something at your age.

↪it would be very hypocritical of him to outright show his dislike of you joining when his old student was the boss. so he settled for voicing his concerns to you about joining so young - in his eyes you still had a great deal of your life to live out and he couldn't bear to see you die so early on in your line of work.

↪maybe it was also the fact that he would have a granddaughter who would be a criminal but again one of his old students was a criminal. you assured him that you wanted to join with the intention of still acting fairly and legally - as legal as you could get for becoming associated with a mafia.

↪you always surprised him and your proposition was intriguing as it was unheard of. a part of him could almost blame the mafia themselves for allowing someone of your age to get caught up in that kind of stuff - but you joining and willingly staying away from harm, he didn't quite know how that would go down.

↪he knew he wouldn't be able to stop you when you made up your mind and so he would always check up on you more than usual. he breathed out a sigh of relief when you announced to him that you had joined, a small oart of him worried you would be hurt just from trying to join.

↪you were well aware that the calico that sat around you at work was natsume, yet you hadn't the heart to bring him up on it as you knew he was trying to protect you. although sometimes you wondered why the boss of the port mafia would stare down the cat, surely he didn't know right?

↪natsume was very pleased to know you kept your word to him. he knew from you telling him about your day to him openly becoming your shadow that you were acting on your own sense of justice - no matter the looks you got from other members.

↪sure he wasn't exactly the proudest when you would tell him about some of the work assinged for you to do but he was happy that you didn't stoop down to some of the mafiosos level and harm innocents. it was a rather bittersweet arrangement for him, he enjoyed seeing how happy you were but he wished it wasn't involving the mafia.

↪again, at the end of the day it was your life and he couldn't stop you from doing what you wanted. he just had to hope that you wouldn't get hurt and if he had to personally make sure that wouldn't become true, then so be it. maybe a small part of him would be proud that you still held up your moral compass even in the darkest depths of yokohama's underworld.

Rintarou had a good relationship with his children, you will not find anything about them speaking bad about his father or being afraid of him... Rintarou Mori never gave them traumas, he was an admirable dad

For what I know, his ex couple's didn't hate him at all... But I can't confirm this information since I don't remember where I may be read that

On the other hand, Soseki Natsume's children were traumatized, afraid of him... He had most horrible memories than good memories with their dad, some of them completely feared him, others had still respect for their dad

The "special case" being one of Soseki's grandchildren who was extremely empathetic towards him

His ex-wife ended up bad psychologically speaking because oh Natsume's behavior, which is extremely depressing
