Sean Kingston's Mom Taken Into Custody During Mansion Raid
Sean Kingston's mother was taken into custody this morning after law officials raided the rapper-singer's rented Southwest Ranches mansion in South Florida.
Sean Kingston's Mom Taken Into Custody During Mansion Raid
On Thursday (May 23), Sean Kingston's mom, Janice Turner, was detained on numerous fraud and theft charges after police officers raided her son Sean Kingston's rented Southwest Ranches mansion in Dania Beach, Fla. The Broward County Sheriff's Office has released the following statement to XXL about the incident.
"Following an investigation that began in the city of Dania Beach, this morning, May 23, Broward Sheriff’s Office Dania Beach District detectives along with members of BSO’s Strategic Investigations Unit and Davie Police SWAT, served arrest and search warrants at a residence in Southwest Ranches," the statement reads. "As a result of the investigation, an adult female, Janice Turner, was taken into custody on numerous fraud and theft charges. This investigation is active and ongoing." According to local news outlet NBC 6 South Florida, the raid is linked to a lawsuit filed by Ver Ver Entertainment, which claims that Sean has reportedly failed to pay monthly installments and the installation fee for a 232-inch television they sold him.
In the video above, Dennis Card, an attorney who represents the company, says that the Jamaican-American artist is known to flaunt his riches, calling Sean's acts an "organized systematic fraud."
"He likes having bling, he likes showing off, he's a showman," attorney Dennis Card stated to news reporters. "My client has a $150,000 television sound system that's in there, there's also about $1 million worth of watches that are in there, there's a $80,000 custom bed that was ordered. This is an organized systematic fraud."
Card elaborated by detailing Sean Kingston's alleged fabricated lifestyle.
"He's got basically a script," Dennis Card continued. "He says that he works with Justin Bieber and that he obviously puts on a big show here. This is a rental house. He doesn't own it, and he lures people using his celebrity into having them release things without him paying for it, and then he simply never pays."
Card went on to insist the musician is a scammer. "He's 100 percent a scammer," he added. "He's on felony probation right now for trafficking in stolen property. He's got judgments against him for procuring more than $1 million in watches without paying for them. This is just an ongoing pattern for Sean."
Hip-Hop Jeweler Johnny Dang Speaks About Raid
After DJ Akademiks hopped on Instagram and posted about the news surrounding Sean Kingston's rented home, Johnny Dang, a well-respected jeweler in the hip-hop community, seemed to piggyback off the accusations surrounding Sean Kingston's failure to pay for purchased assets. His comment underneath Ak's IG post, which can be seen below, suggested that the artist owes him a pretty penny as well. "Damnn I need to collect my $ too loll," Johnny Dang wrote.
Sean Kingston Reacts to Raid
Hours after the raid, Sean Kingston hopped on his Instagram Story and spoke more about what happened. The artist wrote that he and his mother were in good spirits and that he was taking legal action.
"People love negative energy!" Sean penned. "I am good and so is my mother!..my lawyers are handling everything as we speak." The image can be seen below.
XXL has reached out to Sean Kingston's team for comment.

Sean Kingston Sued for Failing to Pay for Rolex
Sean Kingston has a history of not paying for purchased items. In April of 2017, the "Beautiful Girls" hitmaker faced legal trouble for reportedly paying half the amount for a Rolex that was worth $46,000.
According to TMZ, Sean Kingston paid $10,000 upfront to Norman Silver Diamonds and then sent a check for $36,000 to have the watch shipped to his business associate. Eventually, the jeweler discovered that the musician's check didn't clear. Since their encounter in 2013, the man who sued Sean Kingston received $15,000 for the Rolex. The court documents revealed that Kingston still owed about $21,353 for the purchase.

Lil Durk Arrested on Federal “Murder-for-Hire” Charge in Connection to Death of Quando Rondo’s Cousin Lul Pab
Broward County, FL— In a dramatic turn of events, Grammy-nominated rapper Lil Durk, born Durk Derrick Banks, has been taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and is being held at Broward County Correctional Facility in Florida. He faces extradition to California, where federal authorities have leveled a serious charge of "murder for hire" against him. The high-profile case is linked to the death of Lul Pab, cousin to fellow rapper Quando Rondo, in what prosecutors describe as a violent, retaliatory act related to the 2020 death of Chicago rapper King Von.
The Allegations: A Retaliation Plot for King Von's Death
Federal prosecutors in California announced the indictment on Thursday, revealing that the charge stems from an August 2022 incident in Los Angeles in which Quando Rondo’s cousin, known as Lul Pab, was fatally shot. Prosecutors claim the motive is rooted in the November 2020 altercation in Atlanta, where King Von, a close associate of Lil Durk and an influential figure in Chicago’s drill music scene, was shot and killed by Lul Timm, a known associate of Quando Rondo, after a brawl broke out.
Authorities allege that Lil Durk’s group, known as OTF (Only The Family), orchestrated a plot to exact revenge for King Von's death. The indictment suggests that OTF members sought retribution by placing a bounty on Quando Rondo’s head, an alleged conspiracy to commit murder for hire aimed at avenging their fallen friend.
Federal Indictment and the OTF Connection
Five men reportedly affiliated with Lil Durk's OTF label have also been indicted on conspiracy charges for their involvement in the alleged murder-for-hire plot. Those named in the grand jury indictment include:
Kavon London Grant (aka "Vonnie")
Deandre Dontrell Wilson (aka "DeDe")
Keith Jones (aka "Flacka")
David Brian Lindsey (aka "Browneyez")
Asa Houston (aka "Boogie")
According to prosecutors, these individuals used a credit card associated with the OTF label to fund their travels from Chicago to California. Court documents allege they booked flights to Los Angeles after discovering Quando Rondo's whereabouts, intent on carrying out a targeted attack on him. The group reportedly coordinated with precision to locate and ultimately eliminate their target, prosecutors claim.
A Long Shadow Cast by King Von’s Death
The 2020 murder of King Von had a profound impact on Chicago’s music scene and the personal lives of those closest to him. In the wake of his death, tensions between affiliated groups in Atlanta and Chicago escalated, setting off a chain of violent encounters. Authorities suggest that the August 2022 shooting was fueled by those same tensions, framing it as a calculated and highly organized act of retribution by individuals still deeply affected by Von's passing.
The timing of this indictment and Lil Durk’s arrest has already sparked significant discussion and debate across social media, particularly within the hip-hop community. The legal repercussions and public scrutiny surrounding this case highlight the ongoing violence that has affected many artists and the far-reaching impacts of these rivalries.
Awaiting Extradition and Legal Proceedings
Lil Durk now awaits extradition from Broward County to California, where he will face federal charges in connection to the case. The indictment against him, coupled with his ties to the alleged OTF conspirators, marks a pivotal moment in his career and may have significant legal implications for the influential Chicago-based rapper. If convicted on the murder-for-hire charge, the penalties could be severe, with potential sentences ranging up to life in prison.
The Ongoing Impact on Hip-Hop and Street Culture
This high-stakes legal case is another reminder of the intersection between the music industry and street culture, with both fans and artists deeply invested in the unfolding narrative. Lil Durk’s arrest underscores the cyclical violence that continues to plague the hip-hop community, especially within the competitive drill scene. This case serves as a stark example of how past incidents can continue to influence and shape the lives and careers of those involved, often with tragic outcomes.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The murder trial of three men accused of killing South Florida rapper XXXTentacion continued at the Broward County Courthouse in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday.
Detectives arrested Trayvon Newsome, 24, Dedrick Williams, 26, Robert Allen, 26, and Michael Boatwright, 28, for the murder, but only Allen pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and is a witness in the case. The others are going to trial.
Detectives say the group ambushed and robbed the rapper, whose real name is Jahseh Onfroy, shortly before 4 p.m., on June 18, 2018, outside of RIVA Motorsports in Deerfield Beach.
All sides rested their cases Friday. Closing arguments began Tuesday morning.
Prosecutor Pascale Achille played cellphone videos the defendants allegedly took hours after the killing that showed them smiling and dancing as they flashed handfuls of $100 bills. Michael Boatwright, Dedrick Williams and Trayvon Newsome are all charged with first-degree murder and face mandatory life sentences if convicted.
“This is who they are. This is their real character. Killers that within 24 hours after shooting the victim dead and stealing $50,000 from him, this is what they do,” Achille told the jury as she played the video. “Look at how happy they look. Look at how excited they look.”
She also played surveillance video from the motorcycle shop and from where two of them allegedly stashed an SUV that she says link the men to the killing. And she recounted statements from a fourth man, Robert Allen, who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last year and testified against his former friends.
George Reres, Newsome’s attorney, implored the jury not to convict his client based on Allen’s testimony or evidence implicating the other two defendants, saying, “He was not there.” He said Allen, a 12-time convicted felon, should not be believed and Newsome’s DNA was not found on any evidence.
He told jurors they should not believe Newsome is guilty simply because of the video showing him flashing money with the others, arguing he may not have even known where they got it.
“He did some stupid things — he posed with some money,” Reres said. “Guilt by association is not something the law permits.”
Mauricio Padilla, Williams’ attorney, called Allen a “liar.” He said the prosecution’s witnesses contradicted each other and Broward County sheriff’s detectives didn’t look at other possible suspects, including the Canadian star rapper Drake — he and XXXTentacion had an online feud. He said his client did tattooing and other work that paid him in cash, so the video of him flashing money means nothing.
Padilla also sought to cast doubt on the evidentiary value of the surveillance video, saying that while it may show his client in the store and walking back to the SUV, there are moments where the vehicle is blocked and Williams could have gotten out and left.
Boatwright’s attorney was expected to give his closing argument Wednesday, followed by Achille’s rebuttal and then jury deliberations. The trial began a month ago.

Rapper XXXTentacion's life ended in violence.
XXXTentacion was proud to have fought from a young age and said that at the age of 6 he tried to fight a man who lived with his mother. Onfroy grew up in Broward County, Florida, which is densely populated and economically diverse, with many supermarkets lined with low-rise frame houses. XXXTentacion said his parents are Jamaican and also claimed on his personal Tumblr page that his ancestors were of Egyptian, Indian, German and Italian blood.
This chaotic journey is also reflected in his taste in music. When hip-hop magazine XXL hailed XXXTentacion as an upcoming talent with a cover photo in 2017, the rapper was asked about the artists who inspired him, naming a range of names from rock to punk, including Kurt Cobain, Papa Roach, Cage the Elephant and even the British band Coldplay.
"I'm more inspired by other artists than rap," said XXXTentacion. He's had a rebellious personality since childhood and XXXTentacion showed that with his looks. There are many photos of XXXTentacion with tattoos visible, such as a tree on his forehead, an elephant's head on his neck, and the word "Cleopatra". on the chest in honor of his mother, Cléopâtre Bernard. In
Bernard gave birth to a son Onfroy when she was only 17-18 years old and had to work hard to raise him 'restless'; Son. "My mother didn't mind taking care of me, so she just referred me to someone who could take care of me.I wasn't living in good circumstances at the time” XXXTentacion shared once. Then Onfroy realized his punches were an easy way to get his mother's attention.
"At school, I would fight with a lot of my classmates and say a lot of dirty things just to hear my mom yell or talk to me," XXXTentacion said.
Heavy fighting resulted in Onfroy being expelled from high school. At the age of 12 he lived mainly with his grandmother. In high school, Onfroy was arrested for armed robbery, possession of oxycodone pain medication, gun possession, and resisting law enforcement.
In prison, he wrote music that eventually became a hit.
However, XXXTentacion's life ended when he was shot and killed.
In March, XXXTentacion's second studio album "?" topped the Billboard 200. However, that success came at the same time he was awaiting trial in Broward, Fla. for brutally assaulting and jailing a pregnant woman, his girlfriend Geneva Ayala.Ayala told the Miami New Times about the horrifying attack.
Ayala revealed that she was repeatedly hit by XXXTentacion every three to four days during the summer of
in 2016. The rapper strangled her, tore off her clothes, hung her upside down and threatened to cut off her hair and tongue. XXXTentacion also stabbed her, slicing her face and holding her head under water.
XXXTentacion continued to be violent towards Ayala even after she was discovered by
in October 2016 that she was pregnant. That same month he was arrested and charged with assaulting a pregnant woman. However, he has always denied the allegations.
In addition to physically assaulting his girlfriend, XXXTentacion has also stirred controversy by arguing with viewers and hurling vulgar insults at Superstar Drake.
But legal troubles couldn't stop XXXTentacion's initial success. With the endorsement of SoundCloud and praise from rap stars like Danny Brown and A$AP Rocky, his reputation has steadily grown.
"Look At Me" debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 2017. During this time, the rapper was constantly arrested and imprisoned for various crimes. When her debut album, titled 17, was released in August, it reached number two on the Billboard chart.
The album XXXTentacion "?" to the top of the charts and the single "Sad!" It was certified double platinum and reached the top 5 on the rap and R&B charts. From 2017 to date, 16 songs by XXXTentacion have made the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
When XXXTentacion was awarded by XXL magazine, a controversy broke out. "Should XXXTentacion be here? He should be in prison. He has a criminal record," Pitchfork asked in reference to the rapper's criminal record.
