#brought about so much shouto negativity

Also, adding to my previous post - Touya vs Shouto, Toga vs Ochako go through roughly the same steps (though not in the same order):
Endeavor doesn't show up - Izuku rejects Toga's confession -> both Toga and Touya escalate
Both Toga and Touya ditch their hero
Both Shouto and Ochako need the help of a friend to go after them
Both Shouto and Ochako use non-lethal methods to fight back even if lethal options are available
Both Shouto and Ochako have help from sidekicks or family / pros and classmates both in stage 1 and stage 2 of the fight
Both tell their villain that their trauma is valid but they can't condone killing
Toga & Touya: "We are so different" / Ochako & Shouto: "We are the same"
Touya wants Shouto's perfect quirk - Toga wants Ochako's normal life / Shouto is inspired by Touya's perseverance to surpass his limits - Ochako is inspired by Toga's openness about her feelings
Endeavor decides that killing Touya is the only way, Hawks decides that killing Toga is the only way / the kids + family think otherwise
Both pairs see each other's child selves
Toga's trauma is everyone finding her smile and quirk creepy - Ochako tells her she has a nice smile and offers her blood/ Touya's trauma is getting his quirk rejected and feeling like a failure, Shouto tells him he's quirk is impressive and he's a masterpiece
The only diverging points are that Touya's escalation is incredibly suicidal compared to Toga's, he's way more bitter and enraged and with the Todoroki brothers there is less homoerotic imagery / language (for understandable reasons).
Like I don't see how reading the story anyone can say that Shouto didn't do everything he absolutely could.

House Symbolism with the LOV
Ok so I was just thinking abt how Touya burned down Toga’s home pre final arc and it was totally an act of kindness and from a place of empathy because he knows what it’s like to have a home that rejects you and is the source of all your suffering.
If he was just trying to grow her hatred or something he probably would’ve stoked her negative feelings, but he didn’t. This was as close to an act of comfort as we’re probably ever going to get from Touya in this series.
But that has brought me to a startling realization. Touya is the only main villain (excluding AFO this ain’t abt him) to not destroy his childhood home.
Shigaraki obviously destroyed his when he was a kid; it fits perfectly in line with his themes of destroying things he hates, and tearing down this world that has silently rejected him (and those like him). For a child, their home is basically their whole world. And his (in his own words!) rejected him silently, the same way hero society has rejected the LOV. It makes perfect sense.
Toga’s home being destroyed by Touya also makes sense. Her whole story is about how the league gave her the freedom to be herself and freed her from the judgement of her own family and peers. Of course it would be a league member who tears down the origin of this judgement, who fully frees her from her past. However, it is significant that it wasn’t Toga herself who did this. Because as we realize later, Toga is has not freed herself from the trauma of her family home.
And so, that leaves us with Touya. Sweet baby Touya. His family home is still standing. Fully. The origin of all of his suffering is still standing tall, and he has not freed himself of it. Nor has anyone else. This reflects perfectly in the story, as well. Endeavor is still the number one hero, and Shouto’s still fighting as well. Because of that (at least in his own eyes), Touya cannot be free.
Another thing that I think is really interesting is that both Touya and Toga went back home. Touya upon returning home was met with a cruel rejection and received no comfort, leading him to turn into Dabi. Toga finds the same thing upon returning to her home, but this time someone is there to make things ok. This is definitely very headcanon-y, but I think that’s partially why Touya burned it down. He literally went through the same thing as her, and he’s not going to let her get chained to the painful memory of her past the same way he did. Or something like that. Probably not nearly as virtuous since it is Touya but yk. He’s got a big heart somewhere in there <3
-
And so this post has come full circle, meaning my work here is now done. My dinner is cold because I wrote this post instead of eating, but it’s worth it because I haven’t made a post in a while!
I love Toga and Touya so much they are literally the siblings ever. One day I’ll go back and reread Tomura stuff too but that’s a mission for another day. Until next time, I’ll see ya later!

Hi! I saw some people saying that Hawks is gonna have a mental break, but honestly I don't see that happening currently, do you think there is a chance for that?? (I tough only him realizing that villains can be saved through Ochaco but nothing more than that maybe him been involved on the Todoroki plot but it's seems that they are now far away from him)
Maybe you are focusing on the extreme negative connotations with the word "mental break" and not really reading it for what people mean when they say that, which is:
Hawks's walls that close him off from everyone and everything and his own true emotions need to finally come down. And that happening is not going to be a fun or smooth or easy process. He needs to "break", as in, those mental walls/barriers need to break. And with that, an emotional and mental "break" should follow behind it.
I can vouch for several friends of mine who desperately want to see him cry. That's really what people mean when they say mental break. Because Hawks won't cry, he won't express hardly any emotion right now because he's not facing what he's done and what he really feels. I wrote about the villains needing to CRY and I feel the same applies to Hawks. The cathartic emotional and mental release people are wanting is because they want him to face his actions, face how he really feels about them, and challenge his way of thinking. That is not an easy process (See: Tomura), so it shouldn't just be something he casually shrugs off like no big deal. If you're thinking people are wanting a legit psychotic break then no, that's not true. And if they are, well, weird, but that's not the crowd I'm talking about here.
I'm sure you didn't want a whole thoroughly thought-out response to this but this is the consequences of your actions (jk)
You brought up Ochacko as Hawks realizing villains can be saved, and yes I agree that's a thing that should happen. Hawks killed Twice, and then proceeded to say he wants to be like Twice. That is not a normal thought process. And in the act of killing Twice, he struggled internally due to his own conflicting feelings on the Jin Bubaigawara he grew a sort of attachment to before the PLF raid, and used language indicating that he genuinely felt pretty fondly of Twice---and then proceeds to stab him in the back (literally). I highly recommend checking out @transhawks meta on the interaction between Hawks and Twice before he killed him, as it really points out some of the emotions Hawks was cycling through in that moment. Also, re-read that scene anyway because you can clearly see Hawks struggling with the situation, only to snap at the end.
So again, even within the context of fictional bnha it's not normal for Hawks to stab a guy in the back and murder him, express pretty much zero remorse about it at all, and then proceed to say you want to be like him because you like him as a person.
Hawks and Twice were put into a mirror situation of Izuku/Tomura, Shouto/Touya, Ochacko/Toga. Twice was Hawks's villain. And Hawks actually kickstarted the whole narrative of attempting to save a villain you've formed a connection with by appealing to their needs in some way and using who you are as a person to that villain. The thing about their situation is that Hawks failed. For obvious story-telling reasons, like he can't accomplish what the kids' goal is before they do, before they even get a chance to entertain the idea of it. But for character-related reasons such as Hawks refusing to face himself and be vulnerable. Twice was just openly vulnerable 24/7, but Hawks didn't let his walls come down even one bit, which was the problem in their dynamic. The problem extends beyond that because Twice is gone now, and you can see that Hawks won't even be vulnerable within himself, to himself, for himself. He just won't do it. And with these hero/villain pairs the manga has set up for the end game, vulnerability from BOTH sides plays a huge part in the kids succeeding at their goal of saving. Hawks refuses to do that, so therefore he failed.
And rather than reflecting on his time since then, what we get when Toga!Twice shows up again:
Tumblr media
is Hawks immediately resorting to killing him again, still not facing the mess of a situation it was when he did it for real back in the PLF war.
When Hawks talks about Twice in the way that he does--such as wanting to be like him and liking him as a person (yk like when he killed him), it's framed pretty ominously:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this panel brings me to his involvement with the Todorokis.
Do I know how Hawks's involvement with Toga will lead into/tie into his involvement with the Todorokis? No, I don't and can't really see the pathway YET, but he's tied to both and it's uncharacteristic of Hori's writing style to leave things unfinished/unaddressed, so I'm confident he's going to make it happen.
Hawks and Endeavor, my god. Hawks, for lack of a better way of phrasing it, wishes Endeavor was his dad. It's coded this way, Hori doesn't go out of his way to beat the allegations either with his art:
Tumblr media
Hawks's parasocial attachment to Endeavor (who quite literally never pays any extra mind to Hawks or spares a thought toward him during this whole final arc (or ever tbh)) is not a good thing. It's not cute, it's not sweet, it's not a normal admiration. Hawks's commentary on the Todorokis, his intrusion into their conversation during the hospital chapters, his curiosity about special details (like Shouto's eye), him insisting on just supporting Endeavor literally no matter what--there is nothing positive about that. Hawks even says it himself that he admires Shouto for facing his family's problems, when Hawks never got to (through no fault of his own, but this is a testament to how he feels about the Todorokis). In a sense Hawks just...wishes Endeavor was his dad. I mean that's the most blunt way I can put it. He views Endeavor (the doll) as a source of comfort, like a child would/should their parent. Little Hawks and little Touya being placed in front of Endeavor, whose face is split evenly on the page, is not subtle. It's clear a choice has to be made, and Hawks is not the choice Endeavor is going to make. Touya is.
Now, if Horikoshi wants to write a satisfying conclusion for Hawks similar to that of the LOV setup to have an emotional catharsis moment later on, then he'll make this impact Hawks believably. That should NOT be something Hawks just shrugs off like it wasn't a big deal. Because it 100% will be/should be treated AS A BIG DEAL. He's clung to his image of Endeavor since he was a child. Endeavor the hero, who beats bad guys. Not Enji, the father who rejects heroism in the name of saving his villain son--who burned Hawks's wings and went after his mom let's not forget. That is not something we've seen Hawks contemplate internally. The whole fight Hawks is worried about Endeavor, meanwhile inside Endeavor's head he's thinking about himself or his kids. The relationship is not the two way street Hawks would want it to be. And it's gonna be made clear, and that should hurt.
So, two major things here that really shouldn't be just "¯\_(ツ)_/¯" moments for Hawks. Ochacko saving Toga (dressed as Twice) should be a pretty jarring awakening for Hawks that HE tried to save Twice, but he failed. But Ochacko is succeeding in saving Twice's friend. It should be a pretty upsetting event to look back on that situation and realize that killing Twice really wasn't the answer, or the only options, because Ochacko saving Toga (again, currentlydressed as Twice) is living proof. Hawks failed, and Twice, the guy he says he likes, is dead. Endeavor choosing family (Touya) over heroism (Keigo) should also be upsetting, because his childhood ideal Endeavor is gone.
Both of these things happening should be challenges to Hawks's thoughts and feelings about himself, and that should not be a smooth process that doesn't involve strong emotional reactions from the character. There's a LOT left to be done with Hawks and that's why people want to see it.
Am I confident that it'll happen to the level of that I am confident Tomura, Touya, and Toga will be saved? I wouldn't say I'm that high up on the confidence scale, just because Hawks has always been so weirdly handled by Horikoshi that I scratch my head at his choices with Hawks sometimes. But I AM confident they will be addressed. Hawks maintaining his cool guy demeanor would be really stupid and disappointing tbh, especially because the LOV losing their "cool" demeanor elevates their stories so well and I think Hawks deserves the same treatment.

Out of curiosity, do you think Twice’s death will be brought back into the narrative considering the set up of the scene? HK made it look pretty important , and it’s just weird for it be brushed aside by Hawks saying in the conference “I apologize, there was no other way.”
Hey there! Thanks for waiting for my answer.
So, I absolutely think Twice's death will be brought back into the narrative. The reason why his death didn't seem to matter to anyone in the immediate aftermath is because frankly, society's negatively biased views towards villains haven't changed… yet. Their views on heroes have done a 180 thanks to a combination of being repeatedly let down by Endeavor and other heroes, the Dabi reveal tape, and Ochako's speech to the UA refugees, but there hasn’t been a widespread attempt at reframing people’s attitudes towards villains.
BUT! We’re seeing a glimpse of this through the UA kids. Shouto started calling Dabi 'Touya' and 'Touya-nii' after realizing the villain was his brother, and even empathizes with his anger. Deku recognizes that Shigaraki is destroying because he's a deeply hurt child, and Ochako is on the cusp of extending her "we all deserve to smile" belief to Toga too, who she last saw running away in tears.
It makes sense no one cares about Twice's death - yet. Twice was a nobody in the eyes of society, and it is fitting that even in death he's a nobody. After all, this is the League's complaint about society: that people like them are ostracized as second-class citizens and deemed worthless; society keeps proving this repeatedly by not caring about Twice's death. The public wouldn't just start caring that a hero killed a villain, who they never really saw as people to begin with, when they're scared out of their minds about Shigaraki and AFO and the escaped prisoners. They don't approve of heroes anymore anyway, so it's just another drop in a bucket of water. If Hawks had killed a hero (a “good” victim) maybe that would have been different, but we saw the public question Dabi’s claim that Best Jeanist was killed by Hawks and they seemed satisfied with the answer and let the subject go. The bottom line is that society still views villains as “bad” victims.
However, I do think the story is working towards changing this attitude about villains, and Twice’s death was a set up for this in the long run. The fact that Hori dedicated a whole chapter to Twice's death and his dying thoughts is indicative that it's important and that it'll come up again. Let's compare his death to another known death - Midnight. Her death happens off-screen because it wasn’t HOW or WHY she was killed that mattered, but WHO found her and WHAT impact it had on them, how it will change their views of heroism.
With Twice, WHO killed him is important because of Hawks’ hero title. Heroes are held to a higher standard and don't kill, but he did anyway. Even WHO was present when Twice died is important. Dabi was there, Hawks was there… The only other person who saw Twice’s body was Tokoyami, and Tokoyami keeps making appearances in the manga citing his grievances that Hawks won’t return his calls. Not to mention Dabi asked Tokoyami some loaded questions that have gone unanswered:
Tumblr media
Tokoyami responds evasively by saying he was worried about his mentor, but you can clearly see the look of horror and shock on his face, who is usually stoic and careful with his words. I think Dabi reached Tokoyami by humanizing Twice, who was just some guy going to save his friends because they were being ambushed, much like Tokoyami is doing right now and has done before. Also, it's significant that the background of Dabi's speech bubbles are of the chaos that heroes caused by raiding the villains first. When you look at this scene objectively without hero or villain labels, who is the offending party and who is being attacked? I think Tokoyami may have thought of this, too.
Also, you may be thinking, "What the f does Tokoyami have to do with Twice?" Well, I think they're indirectly linked because villains and heroes are two sides of the same coin. I bet we'll soon find out why Tokoyami is so pissed off at Hawks, and I bet it's the same reason Bakugo and Shouto were put off: because their mentors are letting them down, avoiding them. The various heroes they once looked up to aren’t so perfect and flawless, and maybe their way of approaching heroism isn’t the only correct one. Hawks was someone who inspired and motivated Tokoyami, but now he's effectively ghosting him and acted un-heroically by killing. Considering the theme of the new generation of heroes surpassing the older generation, it seems like Tokoyami will recognize that the hero he looked up to was wrong and he must act differently than his mentor.
And okay, yeah, the argument could be made that Tokoyami reassured Hawks that he "did nothing wrong", but much like Deku's "I won’t ever forgive you” to Shigaraki, I think these were thoughtless knee jerk reactions to their life-or-death situations. They’ve since had time to reflect, and we’ve since seen that Deku changed his mind.
Another argument that could be made is, "Well why is it taking so long for Twice to matter?" to which I say that we have to keep in mind that the characters who cared about Twice haven't gotten screen time, so that's another obstacle in the way of addressing Twice’s death, among numerous things like not one citizen calling out Hawks more for killing at all, or Endeavor for abusing his family. It’s just wonky framing and scene sequence. Also, it’s difficult from a reader’s POV to gauge just how well the arc is going when we’re only reading a chapter at a time. For example, those who were reading the war arc often felt like the pace was uneven and the plot moved slowly, but others who read through it because the chapters were already out say the opposite.
Like, we're getting a chapter a week, and it's nearly been a year since the Dabi reveal and we still don't know exactly what the Todoroki family means by "stop" Dabi. Apparently some readers take this to mean Endeavor has to kill his son and Shouto has to kill the brother he can relate to the most. So, like the ambiguity surrounding the Todorokis, the Twice situation is in the same boat for now. I'm not saying it's the best pacing or best choice on the author's part, by the way – I’m just saying Hori probably has more up his sleeve. He is struggling to balance all the characters and storylines he has, but he is addressing each thing slowly.
ANYWAY. I hope these words are coherent. Thanks for such a great question!

Thinking about how Shouto and Touya are perfect character foils for each other. The gifted child versus the one who's forgotten about has gotta be one of my favorite tropes in stories. Touya having his father's attention up until his own quirk turned against him and wanted to gain that attention back, and Shouto having always had the attention from his father despite never really wanting it. I'm just going to say, if it had been the other way around, I truly do believe that Shouto would've become a villain instead, and that's something Shouto even admits to. First, I wanna talk about how much I love the irony of the wants for their children of Rei and Endeavor in regards to Shouto and Touya.
Tumblr media
Rei wanted more children in order to encourage each other. In the end, the divided attention that was given only to the children who were deemed as possible successors and having that attention taken away, ended up being biggest Touya's downfall. Instead of siblings encouraging each other to do better, they were outright pitted against each other in the hopes of being seen as worthy. This can be seen in many instances, such as when Shouto was first brought home. At that time, Touya and the rest of the family didn't even know what Shouto's quirk would be, but Touya attacked Shouto anyway. Likely because at that time, his quirk had started to fail him, and he was so scared of getting tossed aside which seemed much worse to him than the abuse and self-harm he was put through in training. Another instance of this would be these panels.
Tumblr media
Here we have little Shouto wanting to play with his siblings, and I really think here that Touya was able to hear their conversation based on the next panel.
Tumblr media
Here he uses that same "we're in different worlds" phrase he heard his father say to Shouto because he so desperately wants it to be true of him too. He wants his father to recognize and love him so desperately that trying to train to improve himself is his only priority. (Just gotta put in here I'm so tempted to make a fanart of Dabi and Shouto in place of a Loki and Thor scene that I think would really work for them) As for Endeavor's wants, he wanted a child to have a fire and ice quirk in order to beat All Might and become the number one hero. Everything about this is ironic. All Might retiring and making Endeavor the number one hero basically makes Endeavor's goal obsolete because he's able to see that being the number one hero does not make you the symbol of peace (which I think being adored in the people's eyes was really what he was after, but that's a different post) Not only that, but Dabi's quirk is having incredibly powerful flames while his body was made to withstand freezing temperatures. That's *chefs kiss* perfect planning because the child that Endeavor so desperately wanted is at a disadvantage to his older child, and is at this point more focused on saving him than anything else. In the end, I really think that Shouto is going to be the one to have to save Dabi because he's the only one who can emphasize and understand him. There's too much hurt and suffering connected to Endeavor, and Dabi felt neglected by the other members of his family. He ties in a lot of these negative feelings with Shouto, but I think that once he's able to see how Endeavor is still prioritizing his hero duties over even his "perfect child"; he'll be able to understand that it was never him that was the problem. Shouto caring enough to put aside everything Dabi has done to save him/ possibly risk his life for him (without Endeavor being there) is going to be the thing that saves Dabi because all he ever wanted was to be Shouto's equal. If nobody else views him that way, at least he can see that Shouto does.
(End of rant)

bodyguard // s. todoroki
Tumblr media
A/N: my take on the rockstar/band/performer au for bnharem! i’m not a big fan of au’s normally but this one was a lot of fun to write! todoroki is definitely ooc in this one but i took a lot of liberties with his character in order to better fit the au storyline.
CHARACTER PAIRING: Todoroki Shouto x F!Reader
WORD COUNT: 5,091
WARNINGS: mentions of blood, gore, fighting, death, oral sex (f!receiving)
SYNOPSIS: you were in it for the money, he was an unhinged popstar. how could you two ever possibly get along?
want to read more rocking stories? click HERE !
the days at work were tiring, the nights even longer, but the pay was good and it was always satisfying to make a grown man cry as you knocked him to his knees and manhandled him away from your client.
Todoroki Shouto, one of the elite, the famed, the rich, and absolutely fucking annoying. sure, he was hot (anyone with an eye could see that) but he was just like everyone else in his industry: a cocky bastard. you didn’t mind his lifestyle too much except when it interfered with his job, like having to pry off whiny people who clung to him like their life depended on it, and for some, it probably did.
his biggest claim to fame was being in a now wildly famous band, namely the main singer. he was charming with a sultry voice and a personality that oozed confidence but he wasn’t always that way. in fact, he was originally a shy, anxiety ridden teen when he first joined, not sure how to use his voice or deal with people coming up to him in the streets. the life he lived was sheltered before that, training under his dad to take over the family business, but when sweet, innocent Todoroki confessed that he much rather be artsy and sing at the age of sixteen, things quickly changed for him. his father, Todoroki Enji, tried to convince him otherwise, told him that he didn’t know how the real world worked and that he would never be successful, but Shouto wouldn’t budge and eventually Enji caved in, or so it seemed.
Enji immediately enrolled Shouto in lessons, instructing him to shape up or ship out. if he couldn’t become successful in the industry, he would take over his father’s business instead, but that didn’t happen. Shouto excelled in lessons, blowing his instructors away with his timbre and control. he was a natural, and frankly, good enough to be a star. they weren’t so concerned with his stoic yet endearing personality. they had broken enough pop stars, molded them to be perfect model citizens, so what was one more?
the plan backfired immensely. as Shouto’s talent grew, Enji seeked out the biggest in the game, convincing them to give his son a chance at stardom. while reluctant, the board agreed, not wanting to piss off one of the most powerful men in Japan but were thoroughly surprised at the fact that his kid didn’t suck at all. in fact, he was actually good, really, really good.
they signed him immediately, whisking him away into the life of fame and fortune at the young age of seventeen. his range, the slight rasp to his tone and the ability to reach into somebody's soul and pluck the very feelings they try to hide so deeply from it’s depths pushed him towards the life of a rockstar. the freedom he had never been able to experience living at home pushed him over the edge and spiraled him out of control.
Todoroki drank, smoked, and fucked his way through cities big and small, getting himself into a lot of trouble along the way. the behavior went on for years, only getting worse as time went on. nobody seemed to be able to get control over the boy with the pretty hair and wild scar. after almost killing several women and one of his bandmates in a drunk driving accident, his team, label, and most importantly his father had enough.
the conversation between the two did not go well. Shouto was now an adult, legally free and clear from his father’s power. he had his own money, enough to live comfortably for awhile, even if he dropped the band, and all of the repressed rage, longing and anger that was pent up from his childhood. he was not stopping his lifestyle for anyone. that was, until you came along.
you were always a scrapper, getting yourself in trouble more times than you could count. it was just in your nature to defend those who couldn’t defend themselves and you spent many days on the playground beating up the bullies who picked on the sweet girl braiding flowers into her hair, or the boy who liked to play with baby dolls instead of trucks.
as you got older, your fights got fewer and farther in between, at least when it came to the public.
when you turned sixteen and kicked some kid who was trying to look up your skirt so hard in the chin that he saw stars, you were approached by a few men who slid you a card and told you if you wanted to make money fighting, come meet them.
you were a dumb kid and instead of running in the opposite direction and telling the police, you showed up at the seemingly dingy door behind the alley of a fairly run down ramen restaurant. knocking on the door and rocking back on your heels, you waited to see what would happen. it took a few seconds before a panel slid open, allowing you to see nothing but someone’s eyes peering at you in the mid-afternoon sun. hesitantly, you raised the business card in your hand, showing it to the person and jumping in surprise as the panel slammed shut and the door creaked open, inviting you in.
you nodded your head politely at who you realized was a rather bulky, burly man, before a woman dressed in a silky black dress plucked the card delicately from your hand and led you through the hallway. when she opened the door, you were taken aback by the scene.
people of all shapes and sizes stood cheering as two rather muscular men fought in an arena across the room. spit and blood flew across the floor as the two pummeled each other over and over again before one tapped out, the other man raising his fist in the air in victory. you stood, gaze fixed on the scene in front of you, blood racing at the thought of you being in the ring.
“addicting, isn’t it?” the woman whispered in your ear, a knowing smile on her face before she gently took you by the sleeve and guided you away from the screams and shouts into a private room that was much quieter.
you sat down in front of a man who was rather tall and thin, graying hair across his head and a clean shaven face.
“so, i heard you’re a good fighter. how good do you think you are?”
“uh-” you stuttered, not sure how to respond, “i think i can kick someone’s ass if i have a reason to.”
“is money a good enough reason for you?”
“money is a nice reward, yeah, yeah it is,” you confirmed, not pondering the question over for a second.
“good, you start on Saturday. come in comfy clothes that you won’t mind getting sweaty and dirty in. you’re my new ace, a secret weapon. give it six months time and you’ll be defeating guys like that out there in seconds.”
and defeat you did. over and over again, men, women, anyone who thought they were better than you were defeated by your own fists. you worked hard and then some, through literal sweat, blood and tears, to reach the status of champion of the underworld by the age of eighteen.
you were a wild card, unpredictable in your stature. you didn’t have hulking muscles and a sturdy frame, but what you did have was speed, the element of surprise, and the ability to calculate in a split second, all of which allowed you to defeat your enemies time and time again. this relative victory didn’t come without your share of sacrifices: hiding the bruises, blackened eyes and bloody lips from your family as you trained relentlessly, having to figure out a way to manage the steady flow of income that started coming your way as you fought in your first official matches, defeat after defeat as you trained, chipping a tooth and having it promptly filled in like nothing happened, having to learn how to disarm and fire a gun, work with knives and most importantly, losing a bit of your empathy along the way.
it came as no surprise when people who were much more powerful and much, much richer started taking an interest in you, placing large bets upon your head at some of the higher staked matches, a feat you worked your way up to after many years. you never failed to disappoint, knowing that these fights were the ones that mattered the most, the ones that brought you, and your boss, the biggest pools of money.
it was at one of these fights on a dreary, rainy night that you met Todoroki Enji, a hulking man that failed to intimidate you. you were used to people his size and bigger thinking he could take advantage of someone like you and it only made you chuckle thinking of how easy it would be to have him on his knees in seconds.
“i’ve made a proposal to your boss that he couldn’t refuse. he said he couldn’t and wouldn’t force you to do anything, but since you’re quite motivated by money, i think you’ll be intrigued by my offer,” he started, sitting down next to you in one of the VIP booths, sliding his business card on the table with a sly smile.
you were interested and entertained him, listening to him ramble about his shitty kid and his bad behavior. amused, you sipped on your drink as you absorbed his rants and whines about the negative reputation his kid was creating for himself, how he abused his freedom and power to the fullest extent and how his life was spiraling out of control.
“what does this have to do with me, exactly?” you finally questioned, setting your drink down and turning to face him, eyes met squarely with his own.
“i’d like to hire you to be his personal bodyguard.”
“sounds like he needs a babysitter, not a bodyguard,” you retorted, getting ready to stand up and move away from this blathering idiot.
when he spit out a number so outrageous, however, you sat back down, now thoroughly intrigued by the situation at hand. satisfied that he had your full attention, he went into details, laying down a fairly thin stack of papers in front of you as you listened to every detail.
“so let me get this straight. i’m to be his personal bodyguard, keep his shitty behavior a little more under control, whip him up into shape sort of situation. that’s it? and i’ll get paid that much for being a glorified babysitter?”
“you will have to protect him, of course. there are some crazy fans out there that climb windows, seduce themselves into his bed, stalk him, chase him down, but i don’t think it’s anything that, with your expertise, you can’t handle.”
you continued to ponder the situation before gesturing him to continue with his story. he rambled for another moment or two before picking up the papers and going over them with you: standard non-disclosure agreements, a detailed list of your job description and a contract agreement that he was subleasing you through your boss.
after a few minutes of reading the contracts over and discussing them with your boss, you agreed to the scenario, locking yourself into what would be a rather entertaining six months.
the first time you met Todoroki, he instantly tried to hit on you, but when his hand lowered down to grab your ass, you had him on his knees with his left hand behind his back before he could even blink. after that encounter, your conversations were curt. he knew what you were here for and he wasn’t about to let you get his way.
what he wasn’t expecting was for you to be so relaxed about the whole situation. he still drank, still partied, fucked almost whatever girl or guy he wanted, but anytime things got too out of hand, you stepped in, firm but gentle, guiding the crying groupies out of his bedroom after their time was over, driving him every time he got too drunk, cutting him off from any supplies when he was getting out of hand and most importantly, keeping him safe during his travels.
he never realized how much danger he was always in until you mitigated the problems with ease. he just assumed that being assaulted on the daily was something that came with being in the public until you broke some robbers finger when they tried to swipe the wallet out of his own back pocket. after that, he almost clung to you like a koala on a tree anytime he was out in public. you provided stability in a time where he was drowning in his own worries.
that didn’t mean he was ever nice to you though. in reality, he was actually sometimes meaner to you, the simple fact that some girl could be stronger than him set him off, always feeling on edge around you. you weren’t necessarily quiet, offering up any and all small bits and pieces about yourself that he ever wanted to know, but he never really knew you: not your last name, where you were from, if you had any siblings, parents, where you went to school, what your job was, who you were on the inside. it bugged him like crazy to know what your favorite color was and that you liked cheese on your ramen but not anything important, anything he wanted to know.
you liked to keep it that way, however, and would stay as friendly yet aloof as possible. this was a job to you, a job that would set you up easy for awhile and gave you a break from fighting for the most part. you wouldn’t admit to yourself that you liked the man more than you would’ve expected. you felt the way he clung to you as fans swarmed him, the way he always looked to you in reassurance as you walked the streets at night, hearing his sobs in the shower, sobs that were so broken and confused. it showed to you a side of him that was vulnerable, that showed emotion.
he broke down towards the end of your stay, realizing a little too late how much easier it was for you to do your job when he was cooperative and nice. in fact, he began to be more open about enjoying your company and spending time with you. it made it harder for you to continue with your job knowing you were falling for the pretty rich boy, for the man you were hired to protect, for the man who looked at you like you could do no wrong but vehemently would deny it. you began enjoying the little moments with him, the stolen glances, the laughing. you didn’t know what changed in him but you were glad he was someone you could get along with. underneath that crazy exterior, he was just a guy who wanted a friend.
your six months came up relatively quickly. it sucked that your cushy job living in five star hotels, eating decadent meals and working out in state of the art facilities would be over soon but you felt yourself getting lazy, weak and losing your rather sharp edge. it was time to get back into the grind and despite your heart panging at the fact that you would leave the pretty boy with the angry and sad heart behind, you were ready to go.
your last night of work consisted of the final show in Tokyo. tens of thousands of guests were set to attend what would be the bands biggest concert ever. you were calm, cool and collected as always, but the singer, not so much.
he spent the day pacing back and forth, warming up his vocals, hydrating himself, stretching and generally doing his best to calm his nerves.
in a rare act of affection, you reached out to grab your hand with his own, looking him dead in the eye and telling him that this night would be one he would remember forever; and you were right, just not for the way either of you thought.
the show went amazing, the crowd loud and receptive, the choreography flawless, the singing perfect. Todoroki ran off stage with the biggest smile he had ever seen and in his own rare display of affection, twirled you around with ease, adrenaline still pumping through his system.
you congratulated him on the great show and waited patiently for him to remove all the makeup and his costume. he emerged a little while later, hair flat against his head, wet from the shower, sweatpants and an inconspicuous gray hoodie donning his body. you bid a pleasant farewell to his bandmates before escorting him back to the car. he had requested that you drive him back to the hotel and spend one final night in the comfortable hotel beds before you headed back to your hometown.
when you arrived, however, things felt quiet, a little too quiet, and the hair stood up on the back of your neck.
“Shouto, you need to get into the driver’s seat right now, turn on the car and lock it. do not let me in until i tell you to. do not get out of the car, okay?”
he began to question you but before he had a chance to argue, you were pushing him out of the way as a knife sliced towards him, figures cloaked in black emerging from the shadows.
one, two, three, four.
you counted out the four assailants as you shoved Shouto against the car, prompting him to unlock and scramble in through the back seat. only when you heard the click of the lock did you breathe a sigh of relief and begin your attack.
the first man with the knife was tall and lanky, using his height to his advantage, trying to overwhelm you, but with a quick kick to the back of his kneecaps, he went tumbling onto his knees. now shorter than you, you were able to control him by grabbing onto the top of his head and slamming it into the ground, effectively knocking him out.
one, two, three.
the next man thought his muscles would save the day, but his size lacked any true speed, and you were able to land fingers to his eyes, a punch square to his nose. a quick chokehold and he was knocked out against the concrete as well.
one, two.
they both came at once, knives flailing in the air as they sliced your way. one managed to gouge out a chunk of flesh in your arm but you paid no mind, too focused on the task at hand as you grabbed the knife with your hand and used the other arm to knock into their elbow, making them loosen their grip enough to let go of the blade that you then embedded into their shoulder. the other assailant took your distraction to swing the knife your way and as you were trying to dodge the serrated edge, used their other fist to swing up into your chin. you felt your teeth chatter against each other, blood mixing with saliva as you bit your tongue. spitting, you slammed your hand down against their wrist, grabbing the knife with your hand and yanking, not caring that it sliced into your palm as you flipped the weapon around to shove it into their abdomen.
with both men distracted, you slammed your fist against the car door, telling Shouto to quickly unlock it so you could get in. when you heard the telltale click, you instantly dove into the backseat, yelling at him to lock it and drive as fast as he could back to the hotel. he did as he was told with an eerie calmness to him, backing out and around the attackers that were attempting to survey the damage that had been dealt to them.
once you had made the relatively quick trip back to the hotel, you hurriedly jumped out of the car, telling Shouto to carry his own bags so you could be on alert if anything were to happen, scanning each and every corner for a possible other attack. thankfully, everything was safe as you made your way into his hotel room.
you dropped him off quietly, not even attempting to walk into his room, but only fifteen minutes had passed before he was knocking on your door, a first aid kit he had gotten from the front desk securely tucked under his arm.
you let him in without a word, locking the door behind you and turning to face him. before you had a chance to ask what he was doing there, he had dragged you into your rather grandiose bathroom, sitting you on the steps leading up to the jacuzzi tub and pulling out the contents of the kit onto the floor.
he began by assessing the damage to your wounds, cleaning and disinfecting them before wrapping both your hand and arm rather efficiently.
“i had to wrap a lot of my own wounds as well as my siblings. dear old dad let the temper get the best of him sometimes and it wasn’t always so pretty,” he explained, teeth clenching together in an attempt to remain calm.
“thanks for this. i’m sure they’ll heal just fine,” you replied, not wanting to put him in a situation where he had to talk about his troubling past.
“you could’ve died protecting me today, you know?”
“that’s my job Todoroki. i was hired to protect you, i protected you, and i’m fine, thank you very much. this is not my first fight and it definitely won’t be my last.”
he sighed, rubbing his temples as he sat down on the marble floor in front of you, holding your wounded hand in his own, tracing the fabric that surrounded your palm.
“i recognized one of the cars in the parking lot. it was a company car, one of my dad’s cars to be precise. i know they can seem relatively inconspicuous but i memorized every car my dad ever had, big or small. it was definitely his car.”
you mulled over his words for a moment before sighing yourself, slumping against the stairs as your head rested against the rim of the tub.
“your dad sent those men, huh? that’s why you were so eerily calm driving away. you knew you weren’t really in any danger, that those men were secretly there to kill me,” you finally concluded, anger boiling deep within the pit of your stomach.
“yeah, i think they were. i don’t think dad is too fond of the fact that you and i got close. i-i like you a lot more than i let on, i’ve told him so. i thought that would make him happy, knowing i have someone in my life that i could rely on and trust, but he didn’t like the fact that he couldn’t control you after these six months were up, think he wanted to teach me a lesson.”
“wouldn’t be the first time i’ve had a hit out on my head. this one, however, is probably going to be a lot tricker to deal with.”
Shouto sunk deeper into himself, body shaking with rage as he saw the fight flash in his head over and over again.
“i’m going to protect you. if you want to, that is. i’ll sign you on as my own bodyguard, however much money you want. i’ll be by your side always, make sure that nobody tries to kill you, tries to hurt you like that again.”
“i can fend for myself Todoroki.”
“it’s Shouto. and why won’t you let anyone else take care of you? listen, i know i’ve been kind of an ass but i thought we were at least friends, and yet i know nothing about you. i know your favorite color, your favorite animal, that you like sunsets and the rain and snuggling under comfy sheets at the end of the day, that your eyes sparkle when you get a chance to fight but secretly crave peace and comfort, but i don’t know who you are. your name, your story, why you’re really here.”
you heaved as you sat back up, staring him straight in the eye to find no malice, no anger, only confusion, empathy and maybe even a bit of longing. so you told him, you told him everything: who you were, what you were, where you grew up, about your childhood dog and all the scraps you had as a kid, how two strange men in suits approached you and groomed you to fight at the age of sixteen, how it was the only thing you knew how to do, the only thing you were good at, how you scared yourself sometimes because you enjoyed the pain that came with the fights. he sat there watching, eyes wide and unblinking as he absorbed every word you said, every bit of pain and anxiety, of longing for someone to love and understand you, of not having to fight all the time, of wanting to be vulnerable for once.
“let me take care of you,” he declared, standing up and outstretching his hand towards you, helping you up from the cool tile, hand coming to rest behind your head once you had steadied yourself.
he leaned forward, unsure and hesitant, before placing his lips against your own, soft and gentle, tasting of mint chapstick and coffee. you were unsure of yourself, awkward, full of aches and pains, wanting so badly to let go but never wanting to get hurt.
“it’s okay, you’re safe with me. let me take care of you, please.”
that was all it took for you to open up, looping your arms around his neck as he led you back to the bedroom, careful to not run you into anything. your knees hit the back of the bed and you reflexively tensed up, like a deer in headlights.
he shushed you, rubbing his hands up and down your arms, heeding the bandage and wound underneath. you laid back after that, body attempting to relax as his hands ran themselves soothingly over your body, across your breasts, the flesh of your stomach, your thighs, the corded muscles in your calves, slipping your shoes off, your socks, kissing every inch of your body along the way, making sure you were comfortable. you shimmied out of your pants, your tight shirt, bra, underwear, finally bare for him to see, scars, bruises, all the imperfections of your life.
“so, so beautiful,” he murmured, taking his time to kiss every single blemish and scar that you had, wanting you to feel his dedication.
after what felt like hours of soft kisses, his thumb came to rest on your clit, rubbing in quick and precise circles, fingers gently parting your folds to press into your body, back arching at the feeling of him already.
“it’s all about you tonight, okay? just relax, let me show you how much i appreciate you.”
and appreciate you he did. he dropped to his knees, nose nuzzling into your pubic bone as he kitten licked your clit once, twice, three times, testing your reaction. you whined and squirmed at the feeling, already overwhelmed by his fingers lazily dragging in and out of you. you wanted, needed more, but Todoroki wouldn’t hear any of that. you deserved to be treated right, treated gently tonight, to allow your worries to melt away, if only for a few moments.
his fingers began picking up pace, pistoning in and out of you, his fingers curling in all the right spots, fists clenched into the downy comforter as you attempted to ground yourself from the overwhelming situation. his tongue worked against your clit, changing speed and pressure, trying to find what was the right combination to set you off, watching your every move intently as you squirmed around on the bed. before he even got a chance to get into a routine, you were already cumming over his fingers, creamy liquid coating the digits.
he hummed in contentment, pulling his fingers out to lick up the syrup, you watching with your pupils blown wide.
you went to sit up, body aching from the adrenaline of the fight, but he pushed you back down into the plush bed, tutting as he settled his head against your thigh, kissing, sucking and biting along the plump flesh, leaving little marks only he would know about.
his tongue began lapping at your clit again, this time harsher, more in tune with what your body wanted. you clenched your legs around his head, fisting his hair with your good hand as you tried to ground yourself yet again to reality. his velvety tongue felt like heaven against your body, coaxing moans and sighs out of your mouth. you felt your second orgasm hit you like a freight truck, tingles running up your spine. you tried to push his head away but he only held your body down, a frighteningly feral look on his face as he continued to lap against your clit, unrelenting in his pursuit to pull orgasm after orgasm from you.
after, two, three, four more highs, you couldn’t tell where one began and one ended, he was finally satisfied, pulling his face away, chin glistening in the dim light. your eyes were teary and red, overwhelmed by everything he had put you through. you had never been more satisfied in your life, and by the look on Shouto’s face, he knew it too.
your eyelids began to droop and your body relaxed into the mattress as you came back down into reality. Shouto shuffled around the room before settling you into your bed, tucking the sheets around your body and propping your head against your pillow.
he was enamored by your, by your story, how you opened up so willingly to him after tonight. nothing would get in between you two now. he was just starting to truly know you, know the real you, and nothing was going to stop him from wooing you until you were his, not even his father., and if her life was ever threatened again by him, well, Shouto would just have to kill Todoroki Enji.

Retail Therapy
A/N: If you work retail like I do and get frustrated with your job on a weekly/daily basis, if you’re just fed up of all the crazy at work, this one’s for you! Covid has made it extra garbagey to work retail so here’s a little vent. Also, me writing soft Bakugou content? Yes.
Characters: Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugou, Shouto Todoroki
Warnings: Mentions of Covid in Bakugou’s part. Cursing. Customer invading your personal space (also in Bakugou’s part), tiny mention of anxiety in Todoroki’s scenario.
Summary: You’ve had the most infuriating day at work. Lucky for you, he knows just how to fix it.
Izuku Midoriya
Tumblr media
Oh my god this gif is so bright i love it
“Hi baby!” Izuku greets you as you haphazardly toss your shoes on the floor, not caring where they land. One ends up under the dining room table and the other ends up somewhere among the chairs, but you could care less.
You’re pissed. More pissed than you’ve ever been, but specifically with work. You constantly feel like you’re babysitting your coworkers, and they never listen to anything you have to say, even when you’re put in charge of your department- if only for the night. Every time you turn your back, they’re pulling some sort of dumb stunt; how are you supposed to get work done like that? You can hardly focus on your own task when you’re trying to clean up after everyone else. Picking up slack is something you’re used to by now (unfortunately), but it shouldn’t have to be. You shouldn’t have to do your work and everyone else’s work too. Not to mention, you were tired of being the middle man whenever there was drama. Why did everyone feel the need to tell you everything?
“Ughhhh!” You just groan in response, half a smile on your face while a wild look enters your eyes. Izuku knows that look. He can tell you’re frustrated after a long day of work, that you’re at your wits end with your job. “I swear, Izu, I came this close to rage quitting. I mean I wouldn’t, because I’ve got bills to pay and stuff, but, just- this close.”
“Oh yeah?” He gives you a trademark smile despite your woes and invites you to follow him to the dining table where he sits down with you, taking your hand in his. “Tell me all about it.”
And you do. He listens diligently, nodding and getting into the gossip playfully, asking about certain coworkers and making silly comments to get you to laugh. Things like, “But they would never!” and “Oh my god, no they didn’t!” along with your personal favorite, a very dramatic “No!” He even makes over the top facial expressions to go with his comedic comments, and he has you laughing with him in no time, the stress of the day melting away under his electric green gaze. Your vent turns into more of a fun story than it does a bad experience. Izuku is a good listener and he’ll always be there for you.
“It was just ridiculous! Man, I can only take so much in one day. Usually I don’t let them get to me, but I couldn’t take both of them coming up to me every five minutes and complaining about each other. You know, as much as they like to talk about each other not doing their jobs, maybe they would get more work done if they just stopped talking and got back to work in the first place!” As you tell him your story, he hums a response, nods, and gets up from the table. He pats your head as he passes by you on the way to the kitchen, and you follow him with your gaze, questioning him silently.
“I’m still listening, love. I can hear you from here, promise! Do go on.”
You continue, not paying much mind to what he’s doing since you’re so engrossed in your tale of idiocy and annoyance turned silly. And he is listening to you, still making eye contact as he moves about the kitchen, still putting his two cents every once in a while. But before you know it, a savory smell hits your nose, and you realize he’s not only started dinner but that he’s practically finished with it by the time you’re done talking. He wastes no time in making two plates and bringing them over, setting one in front of you and the other in front of his usual spot.
You’re extremely grateful to him for taking the initiative to make dinner while you de-stressed after the day’s events, and you make sure to tell him that as you both dig in to his cooking. He learned from the best (bless mama Midoriya). You’re reminded that no matter how bad your day has been, you get to come home to your favorite human being on the whole planet and love him, and be loved by him in return.
“Thanks for making dinner, Izuku. You’re truly the love of my life.” You say it in such a manner that makes your partner laugh, bits of food falling from his mouth as he struggles to swallow properly. “That’s attractive,” you tease, but you’re laughing too. It’s a happy moment for the both of you.
“Good to know you only love me for my cooking!” He jokes. He eyes your plate before not so subtly reaching over and stealing a piece of food. You gasp in mock surprise, but save your revenge for later. There are plenty of ways to get even with him. But for now...

Katsuki Bakugou
Tumblr media
soft bb
“Shit, fuck! God, I hate today!” you exclaim as you slam the car door shut. Bakugou had been kind enough to pick you up from work, and you were glad that it was him driving and not you behind the wheel. You were shaking in your seat, your hands trembling in anger and teeth grinding in frustration as you glared out of the window silently for a moment.
“Bad day?” Bakugou asked gruffly, foot gently pressing against the gas peddle as you took off on the drive home.
“Yeah, you would not fucking believe people. You’d think everyone would listen to directions and stay home since it’s like, oh, I don’t know- the middle of a fucking pandemic?”
“Oh, believe me, I know. People are stupid. Don’t let them get to you, baby.”
Maybe those words were odd coming from him considering he used to be so angry all the time himself, but Bakugou had really mellowed out since his days at UA, and he knew how to hold his tongue. Unbeknownst to him, however, this was more than a bad day for you. Bad days you could let go of, but this- this was something else. Not quite the worst time you’d ever had at work, but much more than a bad day. Today had been somewhere in between the two, and you weren’t sure what to call it. You’d been yelled at, berated, understaffed, and blamed for pretty much all the problems going on in your specific area even though you were trying your best. There was only so much you could do yourself, and even though you knew it was better to just let it go, you couldn’t. Especially not after what that wretched customer had done to you.
“I’m trying not to, but it’s really god damned hard not to fucking smack a bitch when they invade your personal space and tap on your shoulder. In a fucking pandemic. Actually, I don’t even think she was wearing a mask now that I think about it. How considerate of her.” The words are like venom spitting from your mouth, your fists clenching as you vent to your partner in confidence.
“They did what?” Normally he’s good about keeping his anger in check. Normally, he could handle you venting to him about anything. But someone else touching his Y/N? No way in hell. And during a period of time where touching people was especially rude and inconsiderate? Fucking no way in hell.
“Yeah! Tapped me right on the damn shoulder and didn’t even say excuse me. Words exist! Just tell me you need something and I’ll get it for you! I hate people who do that shit, it’s so unnecessary and rude! And it violates my personal space and creeps me out. I feel disgusting. If you touch me at work, then I’m not liable for anything that happens to you! You get slapped? Then that’s on you, bitch! Don’t fucking touch me!” You finish up your speech with a wild hand gesture, your head shaking in disbelief while you try not to think about too much.
It takes Bakugou everything he has not to just slam on the breaks right then and there and put the car in reverse to drive back to the store and find that piece of trash. If he could give them a piece of his mind, he would. But he can’t, so he settles for the next best thing: comforting you and making sure you’re okay. You did just have your personal space violated after all, so it’s understandable you’re pretty shaken up and angry about the whole thing. He would be too, honestly.
The rest of the short drive home is mostly silent, save for the small talk you make with each other and the quiet background noise of the radio station that he let you pick. His general rule of thumb is that the driver picks the music, but he knows you’ve had a hard day, so he doesn’t argue when you change it to your preferred station and start drumming your fingers to the beat. He’d rather you wind down this way than keeping it all bottled up. When the two of you finally arrive to your shared home, you let your shoulders fall a bit and sigh as you trudge to the couch, not even bothering to take your shoes off before plopping down and face planting into the soft cushions. You listen as Bakugou wanders off to the bedroom and returns a moment later with a shirt in his hands.
“You said you felt disgusting earlier, so I brought you a new shirt to change into. Figured you probably didn’t want to stay in your work clothes.” His tone is softer, a little more careful since you’re home now and he knows you don’t like to fall apart in public. Home is where your true heart is, with him. If you’re feeling any sort of negative emotion, it’s more likely to come out here. And he wants to offer his help, but... “Do you want some help with it?”
You shift so that you’re sitting up on the couch and raise your arms slightly for him. “That would be nice, since I’m utterly exhausted and worn out. I’d really appreciate it,” you reply honestly.
He hesitates a bit, unsure of something before he asks you a question. “Is it okay if I touch you?”
Your response is immediate. “Of course it is; I trust you. I never mind your touch.”
He smiles at that.
He helps you get changed into the ultra comfy shirt he brought you, and after that the two of you heat up some leftovers before cuddling up in bed together, the worst of the day washed away by Bakugou’s soft fingers running along your side as you lay your head on his chest.
“Thanks for always taking care of me. You do an amazing job at it.” You yawn into his shirt and snuggle your face against it, the soft cotton making you feel safe and secure.
“I love you, Y/N.”
“I love you too, Katsuki.”
Shouto Todoroki
Tumblr media
I’m feeling extra soft for Todoroki recently
“Hi, Y/N. How was your day at-”
Before Shouto can even finish his sentence, you’re flying into a vent about work, passing right by him on your way to the bathroom as you start to pull of your work uniform angrily.
“Oh my god, it was an absolute disaster!” You’re still breathing heavy from all the stress, eyes darting around wildly and face flushed from being mad and under pressure all night.
“What happened, love?” Todoroki coaxes gently. He comes to stand in the door frame of the bathroom and leans against it, his hands in his pockets and hip cocked out to the side. He has a sympathetic look on his face as you explain all your troubles of the day.
“Everything, Shouto. Everything happened. I mean, not everything, but it sure felt like it! Our delivery showed up late, and we didn’t have product all afternoon, so our customers were really angry and I kept getting yelled at! It’s not my fault it showed up late! If I had the product to put out I would! It’s complete and utter bullshit!” You make your way to the bedroom to pick out pajamas, not really caring about the pair you take out of the drawer or anything else for that matter. Your mind was focused on one thing and one thing only: your day at work.
Sometimes you had a hard time winding down from work, especially on days like these, and Shouto knew that. You usually were able to separate work from home fairly well, but occasionally you just needed a little reminder that it didn’t have to follow you home to bed, and he knew how to help with that. He’d seen you like this before, had witnessed your break downs and freak outs over your job and the stress that came with it. Retail was not for everyone. Todoroki always told you that you had the patience of a saint, though everyone had their own limits, and you must have hit yours tonight.
“I don’t appreciate being called names and told that I’m practically useless. Customers can be real fucking snobs all the time. And I was trying so hard too, but even after the delivery showed up, it was busy as hell, and every time I put something up on the shelf they just kept taking it down! I think I sold through at least three boxes of something I normally have to throw away at the end of the week. Seriously! It was a mess, and we didn’t have enough staff because one of us was still suspended, and our normal person who works the backroom doesn’t work weekends, and even our supervisor called off, so it was just me and this other girl. It was awful. I can’t even- ugh! It’s not fair!”
You started to work yourself up, your anxiety skyrocketing as you thought of everything that went wrong earlier. Rationally you knew there wasn’t much you could do about the situation, but that didn’t mean you felt the same way. You should have done more, pushed yourself harder, but you also didn’t want to stay and work overtime on an empty stomach and not a lot of sleep the night before. Shouto must have seen the guilt in your eyes, because the next thing you knew you were being moved to the bed where he wrapped you in the softest blanket he could find, and then he was telling you he’d be right back as he slipped out of the room.
You sat there, a little confused for a while, before you heard a beeping noise from the kitchen and the door to the microwave open and close. Todoroki returned with a steaming mug in one hand and a book in the other, and he said nothing as he set the book and cup down on the nightstand before working around you, positioning a few pillows against the headboard of the bed. He fluffed them up a few times and grabbed the giant comforter, pulling it up over your lap and practically swaddling you. Finally he sat down behind you on the bed and pulled you into his lap, and you rested your head against his chest as he petted your hair softly. Slowly, you felt all the tension from earlier on in the day ebb away into drowsiness and exhaustion.
“Alright, blanket burrito,” he said, referring to your form all wrapped up in soft cotton, “I warmed up a cup of your favorite drink and brought us a book. Do you want me to read to you, or would you prefer to play a video game or movie?” He gazed down at you with a brow raised in question, a look of amusement on his face at the sight of your head just barely peeking out from the blankets.
“If you don’t mind, could you read to me? I like your voice...it’s soothing.” You melted into his touch, work already forgotten about and a wave of calm washing over you.
“Of course, dear.” He gave you a precious smile and kiss on the top of your head.
Todoroki always knew how to fix your bad days, and he always did so without hesitation and without you having to ask. He handed you the warm mug first which you took gratefully, and then picked up the book and began reading to you.
How did you get this lucky?

Cold Flame
Cold Flame
A brief explanation of how Rei and Shouto's evolution have to do with the return of Touya Todoroki.
tw: mentions of violence, mentions of suicide, mental illness
Tumblr media
1.) I think these two panels tell a whole story of its own.Touya mentions how “The only thing he taught me was how to turn up the heat” referring to Endeavour. This sentence blatantly refers to the accident where Touya’s flames could not be stopped, because his strive to show his father that he is indeed someone to be proud of, has been ignited and then never shut down. Endeavour took Touya, lighted up the flames in Touya (both metaphorically, in his drive and strive to be a hero, and be his father’s hero - and literally, to bring out his fire quirk out while training), and then tossed Touya aside. Rei, on the other hand was not capable to stop him: whether this references to his training regimen, or to him chasing Endeavour, or even his dream is highly unclear - but the sole fact that Touya blames them both (because he feels like he has been bred for this goal, and Rei agreed to it, and then had not enough power to actually put an end to this nightmare) and he is partly right, because this has hurt more people than it was supposed to and that it was necessary. Rei does not know how to stop his kid from getting hurt, which is getting her hurt in return. In this panel, she looks frightened, offended, desperate to grab at Touya (who is silently and slowly slipping further away from her and her grasp) but she cannot. Now, I am not going to go further in this, because Rei not saving Touya is a partially incorrect statement, as yes, she could have done something if herself was not in a very bad place in the first place and if actually everything that happened between Endeavour and Touya did not hinder not only the relationship between Touya and Enji, but as well the one between Rei and Touya (as he see him rejecting her, because Touya knows why he had been born and probably has been influenced into thinking that his mother is weak, as she cannot fend for herself and just blindly accepted whatever Endeavour put in front of her, and not because she did not know any better, but because she did not know how).
Tumblr media
2.) The jealousy an older sibling feels towards the newborn is completely normal, because the span of attention given to older siblings usually decreases. But here we are talking about two kids, breaded and raised to be vessels of their’s father dreams. This is an extreme scenario, where the competition between sibling is not about skills or quirk, but instead Touya sees it as a way to regain the lost affections/attention, which since Shouto has been born have never been sent towards him. And the fact that the birth of Shouto triggers in Touya’s the abysmal feeling of being a mistake, tells us that the parents did nothing to let him feel better, or to understand that it was not that way (even if arguably, Endeavour had other kids just because he wanted a perfect kid, which means that at the end of the day, he did consider Touya a mistake). And the fact that Touya was been willing to go this far, as far as to injure himself, as to emotionally condition himself into turning his flames from red to blue, is not only a sign of the mental pressure he put on himself and his emotions (always fuelled by that grating feeling of feeling less, worse, not right), but as well of the constant disappointment he felt when his father paid attention to him while scolding him, being angry at him, scowling and not making any effort. This angry, dark face is what shapes Dabi’s memories of Endeavour - an expression he wants to wipe out of his mind because it reminds him of not being the victim of shitty parenting, but of being considered a failure, worthy to burn to death,  alone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And these two.
2.5.) The ‘If only..’ hurts. Because this means not only that there was a chance that Touya did think about it, but he considered it then and there - because it was too much. Because even now, it is too much for him. Rethinking about all this moments is crucial for both Endeavour (who’s memory is definitely triggered into remembering gruelling details of his behaviour towards his children of when he was younger) and Dabi, who instead wonders whether the path he took, the decision he made all those years ago and that brought him there, was actually worth it. Because when Touya died, and Dabi was born on that hill when he was 13, he made the decision to take revenge and actually prove to his father that he is not a failure. He instead, is such a big mistake that Endeavour cannot cancel him anymore. Touya wanted desperately to be noticed for being right. Dabi wants desperately to be noticed because he is wrong, and a big mistake (which is also the result of Endeavour being his father and whatnot).
Tumblr media
2.6.) And this. It’s the realisation that Endeavour is sowing the grief and pain of his oldest son, but it is also a realisation for Dabi: he took a decision, which he is sowing now (along with all the murders and the pain he himself inflicted). Memories which are more painful, and the fact that Dabi’s only comments on the accident is actually that it was scorching hot and that he couldn’t stop is very alarming and sad. He says nothing about how he felt. He just admits to the consequences of that gesture. He is not thinking of how much pain it was, or how sad he was, or anything else but just that this event was what made him into the person he is now, and there is no going back. He maybe thinks that things might have come out better if he actually had died that day. But he never talks of what is happening inside himself, because Dabi cannot allow himself such a weakness. And so, he feels nothing.
2.7.) These two panels (below) give me chills. They are so similar in the feeling they give up: desperation, realisation, hope, terrifying anger and sadness, elatedness in knowing that there is something to hang off, that maybe now the right moment has come. And it’s a sort of revival, a feeling brewing for so long and finally exploding in the hate, and the will to drag his father down in the mud with him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3.) Rei's involvement, in Touya’s upbringing is a problematic topic for two reasons: she feels guilty about it, and her mental state which has been deteriorated by her family and her husband, does not allow her to even look for an excuse, as Endeavour did. Instead, Rei has been driven to a point where she just wants to let go.
I think that here, Rei, plays a very big role: she is stuck between a husband she cannot take on by herself, and a child who wants nothing to do with her because of her actions (which are inherently caused by Endeavour). And her mental health further deteriorates. Rei looks distraught. I would say even fatigued, and weighted down by everything that is happening, and how she cannot and does not want to deal with it.
In the hospital room, in Chapter 300, when she comes back and tells Endeavour that he is not the only to have suffered, she is not only referring to Touya, but to herself as well. I think it is important to note how the change happened. For both Shouto and Rei, Touya is a central button: after the accident, things escalated so much for Rei that she ended up in the hospital, Endeavour instead got the full time he wanted with Shouto (reversing his negative feelings, guilt, remorse and strive for his broken dream) into training.
And the fact that in this moment, she chooses to let Touya go (metaphorically) is not only heartbreaking, but also reflects the anger in Endeavour’’s eyes who’s thinking line has to go along the lines of: ffs, I have to do everything around here (which I do not want to sound rude, comes off as misogynist, but as well disrespectful and just right arrogant). However, the fact that Rei here is weak, does not define her character and instead Touya coming back is exactly what she needs to step on her feet again, and transform this
Tumblr media
into ‘I’m here now’ and I’m going to solve this situation. Because Rei is tired of the situation, of Endeavour and wallowing in Endeavour’s shadow. It is time for her to actually intervene like she should have done years ago, and save her kid (or at least, give Touya a forgiveness sort of goodbye, and maybe tell him that notwithstanding their mistakes, and the fact that he was born because of a Quirk Marriage, Touya was still loved).
4.) But then, Shouto's has always been aware of how bad the situation in his own home is. Him protecting his mom is greatly telling in this sense: Shouto, despite being as traumatised by his father’s behaviour as Natsuo and Fuyumi (who are older than him, and are also crying in this panel - because Endeavour is a very tall, and build man and he is the Head of the family, which is also probably why they know what is going on, and no matter how many times this happened, if one or twenty but there is no excuse for Endeavour scaring his children so much they feel the need to retract in themselves (as shown by Fuyumi’s position on the floor, and Natsuo trying to be shielded by his bigger sister) and to cry as silently as possible with the hope that the angry person does not notice them. Shouto, on the other hand, while also crying actually stands up to his father (as he continued doing til today) and despite the shouts, angry stare and all the burden that comes with parent’s argument, he still tries to protect his mother, because he knows that the dominance of Endeavour’ character is too much for Rei to take. Because Rei is tired. Look at her face. Look at her eyes and her general exhaustion. The panel of point 3 stands to identify that she cannot take anymore. And instead, Shouto plays the bigger person. Notwithstanding all the obstacles he has overcome (the hellish training manu, his father’s expectations, the burden left by Touya’s disappearance, his father’s ego and anger, his mum burning him, Rei’s hospitalisation, the scattered relationship with his siblings, his empty childhood), Shouto stands tall and proud, knowing what he has to do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think that Shouto’s being the Hero of his own family, is a very important ‘part’ of not only the story, but as well for Shouto, who is evolving in character and setting the foundations for an individual whose past prejudices his future, and he has to resolve the plethora of things that he carries involuntarily with him, before possibly saying that he has achieved something, and that he became a Hero. I like how Horikoshi pointed slightly out that this whole drama, even if the protagonists are Touya and Endeavour, is not only the shaping path of Shouto, but as well his stepping stone for being a real hero (through the pits of fire which once again he has to do, in order to let go of the past, and instead his future, depicted in fire and ice).

I Wrote This Just For @shoutosteakettle Go Give Her A Follow!

Tumblr media
You didn't know Izuku had a quirk.
You never throught Izuku would make it into UA, at least not the hero course. You knew he was applying, and you knew he was determined to get in but you also knew how hard the entrance exams were. Just a quick moogle search would tell you that the acceptance rate was low, without a quirk it was damn near impossible.
When you applied to UA with Izuku you hoped that he would get into another course, like the support course, he certainly was smart enough. It wasn't that you didn't believe in him, but the reality of getting into the hero course without a quirk was just low to impossible. When he came to you and told you he got in, you were ecstatic. He beat the odds, he would become a quirkless hero. He would become a hero alongside you, his best friend.
Your first day of UA was a shock. You hadn’t been able to test with Izuku in the entrance exam because they separated everyone up into different groups, you had no clue that he had a used a quirk to get in. When you heard from a student in glasses, Tenya Iida, that he had a quirk, you were in disbelief. When it came time to throw the ball during the endurance test you were utterly hurt when Izuku threw the ball with such force.
You were hurt upon learning he had a quirk. How could he have a quirk? Izuku, your childhood friend. Izuku, your best friend. He was quirkless. You spent many nights up late comforting him when he cried over the fact he was quirkless. You spent many days defending him from your peers when they bullied him over it. Sometimes you felt guilty for having a water quirk, and you even had a scar from fighting with Katsuki when he called Izuku worthless.
Why would he lie? Why would he lie to you? You trusted him so much, didn't he trust you?
You had been deciding how to approach the quirk subject with your best friend. You knew you should've left Izuku and Ochaco alone, they had to prepare for their fight against Tenya and Katsuki, you should've been preparing with your own teammate but you needed to confront Izuku, you wouldn't be focused enough to fight if this was this distracting you.
You ran your nervous hands through your hair as you approached Izuku and his teammate. You bit on your lip as ypu spoke to him, careful words trying to make your voice seem calm and the least upset as possible.
“Izuku, can we talk? I mean... Unless you’d rather get ready for your fight.”
Just by standing in front of him, Izuku could tell you were nervous and upset. He had known you for years, he could see the way your hands shook ever so slightly, the way you bit on your lip, habits you did when you were nervous. The way you adverted his gaze and wearily eyed Ochaco backed up his thoughts. Izuku looked over at his teammate with an apologetic smile.
“I’ll be right back.”
Izuku grabbed onto your hand and pulled you away from the rest of class. Worry etched his face as he spoke his words. His worry brought comfort to your stomach. Surely if he was this worried over you, then his lie was not as complex as you thought. Perhaps, he had a good reason to lie - but was there ever a good reason?
“What’s up? Are you okay?”
“I... When did you get a quirk?”
With your simple question Izuku dropped his hold on your hand and nervously played with his own. It was such a simple question, but he couldn't answer it. Between his silence and nervousness, all those negative feelings came back.
Why did he lie to you? You trusted him more than anyone else, did he not trust you the same?
“You told me you didn’t have a quirk, you had Katsuki convinced too... I guess I just don’t get why you lied to me... Out of all people, I know the most about you, we’re best friends.”
You took a deep breath as he remained silent. You could see his eyes, just as nervous as yours. The little clogs in his brain turning, trying to find an excuse. There wasn't a good excuse for a lie as big as this, was there?
“I just wanna know why, I mean, I- fuck, people made fun of you, but I was always there for you. Do you not trust me?”
“[Y/N], it’s not like that.”
“Then tell me why you lied.”
“[Y/N]... I can't tell you...”
You balled your hands into fists and kept them at your side. He could have said he was a late bloomer, but he didn't want to lie to you. He couldn't lie to his best friend, but he couldn't tell his mentors truth. He couldn't lie, nor be truthful, because of that he was going to lose you.
“Can’t or won’t? Never mind, it doesn't matter.”
Your eyes were glaring down at the ground as a few tears leaked out as your hand went up to your arm and grabbed your scar. He didn't trust you enough to leave this information with you. He didn't trust you enough to be honest, but you had a scar adorned on your skin, proof that you would do anything for him.
“I don’t think we should be friends anymore.”
You didn’t wait for Izuku’s reply. You didn't look up to see if he was upset. Instead you wiped the tears off your eyes with the back of your hand and turned on your heel. You walked away from Izuku, your now former friend and walked towards your partner for the class assignment.
He was tall compared to you, and his hetero-chrome eyes pierced into your soul. He towered over you as you smiled at him and introduced yourself.
“Hi, I’m [Y/N] [L/N].”
He wasn't there to make friends. He wasn't there to play nice. he was there to become a hero. Yet as you smiled at him, he couldn't help but flash you one of his own, albeit a very was quick, and brief one.
 “I’m Shouto Todoroki.”
Tumblr media
After you introduced yourself to Shouto you really connected. Maybe it was the fact your quirk is elemental based like his. Maybe it was the fact that your water and his fire were so different yet so good together. Maybe it was the fact that your water was so calming in contrast to his fathers fire, the man he was trying his best not to be.
You became Shouto’s first friend at UA. You stuck through his mood swings and earnestly listened to him when his father upset him. You began to have late night talks about your dreams and aspirations. You walked to school every morning, and you ate lunch together. In a sense, Shouto replaced Izuku as your best friend.
You were Shouto’s first real friend, one his father actually tolerated. You were Shouto’s best friend. Maybe that was why it hurt him so much when you and Izuku got on talking terms again.
It had been Shouto’s decision to befriend Izuku after the sports festival. It had been him to push you into talking with Izuku again. He had been the one to tell you that Izuku was nice. He had been the one to tell you that Izuku deserved a second chance, so why did it hurt so much. Why did it hurt to see you smile at Izuku? Why did it hurt to see Izuku already at your door when he came by to walk you to school? Why did it hurt when Izuku helped you with homework? Why did it hurt when he saw you both so close?
Shouto couldn’t help but stare down at his food as you and Izuku goofed off across the lunch table. He began to miss the days before he urged you to talk to Izuku. He missed the days where it was just you too together. The days he had you all to himself.
“My mom wants me to come home from the dorms for the weekend, do you wanna come with me and see her?”
“I love your mom! Of course I’ll come by.”
Shouto moved the food around on his plate, but he still didn't eat it. He wanted to be able to take you home. You would love his older siblings. Natsuo and Fuyumi would adore you.
“Sho, you should come with us.”
Shouto’s briefly looked up at you but put his attention back on his food once he saw your huge smile. You looked so happy at the aspect of going with Izuku to be his family. He wanted to be able to take you home, but why would you want to? His family was anything but perfect and loving like Inko and Hisashi Midoriya. He had a bastard father, dead brother, and a mentally unstable mother. They were perfectly, dysfunctional.
“Oh. That’s alright, I’ll just stay in my dorm tonight.”
“Are you not feeling well? You barely ate your lunch.”
Shouto’s cheeks flushed from the attention you gave him as you leaned over and placed your hand against his forehead. You quickly removed it after you received both, a perfect cool and a perfect warm temperature from each side of his head. Shouto couldn't help that feeling that entered his gut as you worried over him. He felt warm and fuzzy on the inside.
“I’m fine, I just really need to study for Present Mic’s English test.”
You frowned over at Shouto. He flushed and you were positive he hadn't ate a single bite of his lunch. It would be hard to detect a fever due to his quirk, maybe you should make him go to Recover Girl?
“Tell me if you begin to feel any different, okay? I can bring you some soup and company.”
Shouto didn't want to be such a possessive friend, but he couldn't help this feeling he got when Izuku came around. He couldn't help how upset and sad he felt as Izuku and you goofed off. Shouto was never good at expressing his feelings, but the more he thought about them, the more he realized what he felt for you. He wanted to be the one you laughed with. He wanted to be the one you held hands with. He wanted to be the one who helped you study. The one you trained with, shared secrets, and had family dinners with. He wanted to be yours.
Shouto was your friend, just your friend. He couldn't let these feelings screw things up, no matter how much it hurt him. After all, why would you want him when you could have Izuku? He would be perfect for you. He could give you a flawless relationship. You wouldn't have to deal with parental issues or the an emotionally constipated boyfriend. Someone without baggage and problems.
Shouto could suffer through it as your friend, no matter how much it hurt.
Tumblr media
You felt awkward as you sat in the Midoriya household. Maybe it was the fact that Inko had no clue you and Izuku were having friendship issues. Maybe it was the fact you were sat across from Hisashi but you barely knew Izuku’s father due to him traveling for work. Maybe it was the fact they talked and acted like you and Izuku were dating.
To be fair, you and Izuku had been friends for a long time. Inko always imagined you two would date and eventually get married. You were always in her home, holidays, birthdays, school projects. She was a second mother to you. A replacement to your own mother who emotionally and psychically abandoned you but placed pressures on you and your quirk. Your mother financially provided for you, but Inko was the one who was actually there.
The Midoriya household was an escape for you growing up. It was a safe space but now it was foreign. It was too soon to come back here. You still weren't over Izuku lying about his quirk. Your friendship was still fragile, it was still in the mend. The longer you were here, the more you realized how you weren't ready to forgive him.
Everything was different now. Inko wasn't there when you and Izuku stopped being friends. You stopped clinging to the Midoriya household as a stress reliever becuase it was no longer an option. Inko was Izuku’s mother not yours. You clung to your friendship with Shouto instead. He could relate and understand your stresses. He could relate and understand the pressures your mother forced and projected onto you. Things shifted and Shouto became your safe space, Shouto became your escape.
Your hands fidgeted under the table so you grabbed your thigh with your left  hand and picked up your fork with your right hand. You tried to eat your food to calmly get through this meal and evening.
“So, [Y/N]... Is Izuku treating you well?”
You scrapped around the food on your plate as you thought of how to delicately handle this matter. The question came from Hisashi. He wasn't home enough to know that you and Izuku weren't dating, he only knew what Inko thought and told him. Inko thought you and Izuku were going to be cliche childhood friends turned lovers. You couldn't blame Inko for thinking that. She wanted what was best for her son, and in her mind that was you. Growing up you and Izuku were so close and you, yourself, could have seen yourself being with him, but things changed.
You desperately wanted Shouto to come with you so you could avoid the awkward comments you would receive from Izuku’s parents. While you thought maybe a male presence would get them to back off of the fantasy of you being with Izuku, you couldn't lie - you really liked Shouto.
“It’s not like that with me and Izuku, were just friends.”
Once dinner was over you opted against going with Izuku up to his room and decided to stay and help Inko with the dinner dishes. Inko could help herself from prying into your business as you dried the dishes she was scrubbing. She could tell something changed between you and her son. You were sitting far apart and you were both so quite. Normally, you would've sat close together while you both geeked out over some hero.
“Did something happen between you and Izuku?”
While Izuku could lie to you, you couldn't lie to Inko. The woman practically raised you, so you told her the truth. The whole truth. From the argument, meeting Shouto, becoming Shouto’s best friend, the sports festival and slowly refriending Izuku.
“I’m awfully sorry my son is being so stubborn like that. He could just tell you the truth, he is a late bloomer. I think he’s embarrassed.”
“Don’t apologize for him. It just hurts because he was my closest friend, and after years of friendship he won’t admit that he’s a late bloomer? It hurts because he was willing to let me walk away from our friendship instead of fessing’ up.”
Tears were ready to fill your eyes thinking about how betrayed and hurt you were, before a small smile graced your face.
“At least I met Shouto from it.”
While she was disappointed in her son, Inko couldn't help but smile as she saw the sparkle in your eye when you spoke about Shouto.
“This Shouto, the one from the sports festival, do you like him?”
A blush creeped up your neck and spread across your cheeks as you looked away from Inko. You liked him, you liked him so much, but he was your friend.
“Shouto is my friend, my best friend.”
“That’s not what I asked. I asked if you liked him.”
“I- I don’t want to disappoint you. I know you always thought I’d grow up and marry Izuku, but Shouto... He’s nice, and bluntly honest. Sometimes he’s a little oblivious to things, but he’s there for me when I need him.”
“I’m not disappointed with you. ...A little bit with the way Izuku is being, but not with you. [Y/N], I know my son would rather I didn’t say this to you, but I’m going to give you some advice. You don’t have to stay friends with someone because of years of friendship, especially if you’re not in a place to be friends with him. Friends grow apart all the time, and you do not owe Izuku anything.”
Inko knew in the long run, her words would effect your friendship with Izuku, but she couldn't be selfish. She wanted you to marry Izuku and be her daughter, but she couldn't force that on you. You grew up as her unofficial daughter, and that meant she wanted what was best for you, just like any mother would want.
“Thank you for the advice.”
Your felt your phone vibrate and you whipped it out of your pocket to see a new message from Shouto.
Shouto Todoroki: If your not busy still with Izuku, is your offer for soup and company still on the table? [Sent: 8:27 PM]
[Y/N] [L/N]: Of course, Sho! xx [Sent: 8:32 PM]
“Inko, something came up and I have to get back to the dorms.”
“Of course. Have a safe trip back.”
You put your coat on and grabbed your purse once you reached the front door. Before you could turn the nob Izuku stopped you.
“You’re leaving already?”
“Yes, I need to get back to the dorms.”
“You can’t stay? I was hoping we could play a video game, or something... You know, like old times.”
You closed your eyes and took in a deep breath. You knew Izuku thought if you came to his home and remembered all your childhood memories, remembered all the good times then you would forgive him. He wanted you to drop the quirk thing, he wanted to push it all under a rug and be normal again. He couldn't do that, he couldn't pretend your friendship was the same. While you could try to get over it, try to move past it, the fact he wanted to pretend it didn't happen bothered you.
“Don’t do that.”
“Do what?”
“You know what your doing... You’re acting like you never lied to me, like we never stopped being friends.”
“I- I didn't want to make you feel uncomfortable... I thought this would help ease you back into our friendship.”
This whole evening was uncomfortable.
“Well I am. I am uncomfortable. You were my best friend and you lied, or at least won’t tell me the truth. Why?”
“You know I can’t tell you.”
“I don’t understand why you can’t tell me. I’d understand if you’re a late bloomer, I’d understand if it’s the fact that your quirk brakes your bones. I just want your honestly. What do you value more, your secret or my friendship?”
You felt angry as Izuku remained silent. He wanted to tell you but he couldn't. He told Katsuki. While he didn't really believe him, All Might made it clear he couldn't tell anyone.
“I don’t want you approaching me or talking to me. I’ll be civil in school because Shouto is my friend too, but I’m not your friend outside of school.”
“[Y/N]... Don’t go. I just can’t tell you the truth, my mom doesn't even know...”
With another buzz in your pocket from Shouto and Inko’s words of advice stuck in your head you say your last piece to Izuku.
“The thing is, once you lie once I can’t tell if your lying again. My trust in you is gone, and I don’t think it can be repaired. I put my trust in you, I’ve scarred myself for you, but you hurt me. Friends drift apart all the time, and that’s okay, we’ve drifted apart, that’s okay. Right now Shouto needs me and I don’t intend to drift apart from him.”
Izuku wanted to tell you, but he couldn't. He had to keep his mentors secret. All Might warned him about the dangers that lurked with this secret. He had to keep it because just the knowledge of it could put you in danger. Izuku stayed silent as he watched you walk out the door. He was silent as he let you walk away from him for the second time, the emotional rift between you wide, pushing you away from him and closer to Shouto. He had to keep this secret to keep you safe, even if it hurt so much.
Tumblr media
You left quick hard knocks on Shouto’s dorm room door as you balanced two servings of Shouto’s favorite soba and two hot cups of tea from the place you ordered food from a lot. Mr. Aizawa had given you a hard glare as you went up to the boys dorms but after he seen you had fresh soup he let you go with the simple warning that you better be out of there in an hour or you'd receive a detention.
It didn't take long for Shouto to open the door. He immediately took the food from your hands and placed it on the counter. He turned back to you with small smile on his face.
“Hey, I brought you soup.”
“Thank you.”
Shouto smiled as he watched you open the takeout package and pour his soup in a bowl. You carried his soup over to him and felt the back of his head with the back of your empty hand.
“You should be in bed resting.”
You grabbed Shouto’s hand and pulled him over to his bed. You placed the soup on the edge of the nightstand by his bed as you instructed him to lie down. You wrapped his blankets around his body and tucked in the end under his feet.
Shouto smiled up at you as you handed him his soba. You looked so sweet and worried over him. Maybe it was the fact he hadn't had someone worry and care over him when he was sick in a long time. Sure he had his father, but he didn’t take care of him. He just fed him medicine and left it at that. It filled him with such intense longing feelings as he watched you maneuver around him, tucking him in, bringing him water, and even getting him soup.
He didn't even have the heart to tell you he wasn't actually sick. He used that as an excuse to get you over, he planned to tell you... But then you started worrying over him.
“Thank you [Y/N], this means a lot to me... I’m sorry if I ruined your evening with Izuku.”
“Truthfully, I’d rather be here taking care of you than with Izuku. We got in another fight.”
Shouto knew he shouldn't feel so happy about it. He should feel sad and push you to talk it out with Izuku, but he didn't. He didn’t give you advice or tell you that you'd both makeup. Instead he felt hopeful. He could be just as good as Izuku, he could make you happy. Instead, he grabbed your hand and laced your fingers together.
“You’re a great person, Izuku’s being an idiot by just letting your friendship slide away.”
“Thank you, Sho... Ugh, I should go, Aizawa is gonna bust in any minute and kill me.”
You go to pull your hand out of Shouto’s but he keeps a firm grip.
“Stay...”
You know you should leave. You should go to your dorm or else Aizawa will give you detention. You should leave but Shouto’s smile was so inviting, and who wouldn't take the chance to relish in the presence of their crush.
“Aizawa will literally kill me.”
“I’ll take the blame... I just don’t want you to go right now. I want... I want to be with you right now.”
You didn’t go back to your room that night. You stayed the night in Shouto’s dorm. You slept beside him, and when morning came you woke up with your face pressed against his chest. You hadn’t known he was staring down at you with love in his eyes. You hadn’t know he was watching you with a wanting, domestic feeling in his chest.
Tumblr media
After that night everything changed. The dynamic in your friendship with Shouto shifted, and Izuku became a thing of the past to the both of you. You were civil to Izuku for the sake of your mutual friends but that was it. You didn't talk to him willingly inside of school, or outside of school.
Shouto seemed to take your side in the whole ordeal. He hadn't pushed you to talk it out with the boy or even asked you to be civil. In fact, Shouto seemed to distance himself from Izuku. He didn't eat lunch with Izuku, but preferred to eat a meal in solitude with you. He didn't study with Izuku, he preferred to study with you in the back of the library or in your dorm room.
Shouto knew it he should've done the heroic thing and push you to be friends with Izuku, but he couldn't. After that night, Shouto’s feelings for you became so clear. He wanted to hold you, to be the one who protected you, the one comforted you and prevented your tears. He wanted to be your boyfriend, and more. He wanted to be to you, what his father should've been for Rei. He wanted to be the one to make you feel loved.
It wasn't an insecurity, or him being possessive. While he didn't like the idea of you having someone who shared so much history with you in your life, he was really reluctant because he saw the way Izuku looked at you, but then he saw how he treated your friendship.
Izuku looked at you how Shouto looked at you, but Izuku was willing to throw away your friendship. Shouto could live with someone better sweeping you off your feet. Shouto could live with you falling in love with a great man who treated you good, good and better than he could. He could live knowing someone better than him had you, but Izuku was not a better man.
You deserved someone willing to give you the moon. Someone, kind, loving, and honest. Maybe that’s what pushed Shouto to tell you the truth about that night. Izuku lied to you, or at least with held information and that caused your friendship to drift, but Shouto lied to you as well. He wanted to be honest with you, he wanted to be different than Izuku.
“I have a confession to tell you.”
The words kind of just tumbled out on their own. You lifted your head up off of his chest and with furrowed eyebrows you looked in his eyes. You had previously been peacefully cuddling together on the grass under a shady tree to escape the heat. Shouto’s tone sounded so serious that you had to pull away from his cool chest to look in his eyes and give him your full attention.
“Are you the one who ate my muffin?”
“That was Bakugo.”
“Okay, then what’s up? You sound very serious.”
Shouto’s stomach dropped. He felt nervous to tell you. You were already upset about the muffin, and he knew how you felt about lies. Izuku lied, and you stopped being friends. What if you stopped being his friend? No. Shouto had to tell you. He had to tell you out to respect. He had to tell you because this is the type of thing his father would do, and he didn't want to be like that. He had to tell you because this is how Izuku hurt you, and he didn't want to do that.
“Do you remember that night a couple of weeks ago, when you came over and took care of me?”
“Yeah, you were sick so I came over, and stayed the night.”
“I wasn't really sick.”
You let out a sigh before lacing your fingers with Shouto’s. You were hurt that he’d lie like that, but the fact that he was sitting here, spilling out the whole truth with comforting. You smiled at him to which he responded one that could only be described as a nervous, unsure one.
“Why did you lie?”
“I... I was jealous. The idea of you spending the evening with Izuku upsets me. [Y/N], I really like you. I like how you worry and care about me, and I like all the little things about you, that stupid scowl and pout you do when your upset, and the way you stick your tongue out after an argument when no ones looking. [Y/N], I like you and I know I’m probably ruining things, but I needed to be honest with you.”
“Sho, you’re not ruining things.”
You bit your lip as you scooted closer to Shouto. You unlaced your hands but just so you could then slither them around his body. You rested your chin in the crook of his neck and placed your lips by his ear as he tightly clung onto you.
“I’m not mad you lied, because you were honest with me... You’re always honest that’s why I like you.”
“You like me?”
”So much, Sho, so much. I like how you’re always honest with me, I like how you're so protective, I like the little sweet things you for me, like how you let me take advantage of your quirks, and how you scare off Mineta when he’s being a pervert.”
As Shouto planted a kiss to the top of your head you were oblivious to your audience. The truth is, Izuku was coming over to tell you the truth. He was going to tell you about he how he got his quirk. He couldn't stand the fact that he wasn't friends with you. He couldn't stand how much it hurt not having you around.
As he watched Shouto hold you, tears welled up in his eyes. You were so perfect together. You brought out the best in Shouto, you made Shouto feel stable enough to express his emotions, you made Shouto feel like he was his own person, like he wasn’t just Endeavor’s son. Izuku could see the way Shouto stared down at you, with love and adoration pooling in Shouto’s eyes, and Izuku could see the way you looked back at Shouto. He made you safe, happy, secure.
You were perfect together, and all Izuku did was hurt you. It hadn't taken long for Izuku to back track his steps. He turned around and retreated from his initial plans to tell you everything. You weren't his anymore. you weren't Izuku’s. You belonged to someone who would give you the world and would. You belonged to someone better. You belonged to Shouto now.

BNHA Venom!AU (set in the US for ease of writing) where Izuku is a baby symbiote who accidentally ended up on earth. He ended up lucking into a host, an 8 year old Katsuki who’d been backpacking through the woods nearby where he landed.
Katsuki was always a bit of a weird kid. He didn’t get along well with any of the kids he knew, and his parents were rather distant, being high-end fashion designers meant they were always off across the world doing other things. As a result, when this weird alien attaches itself to him, he’s annoyed for sure, but he doesn’t panic, or call the police, or really do any of the normal things that a child should do in that situation.
He just kinda,,, puts up with Izuku. Sure, he’s pissed off and he tells Izuku to go away for awhile, but soon enough he learns to accept this weird alien that’s a part of his life.
Quickly, both he and Izuku discover that Izuku can help him do some pretty cool things, and Izuku needs lots of chocolate to stay healthy. Both things are just fine by Katsuki, and he ends up deciding that Izuku is actually alright in his books.
Some government agents snoop around, at least somewhat aware of an alien being in the area, and Katsuki quickly learns to hide Izuku from anyone else. He doesn’t want them to take his new friend and hurt him like they described. Katsuki manages to escape suspicion as not even his own parents know about his backpacking/hiking hobbies, and nobody really thinks a spoiled 8 year old kid of two fashion designers would be 10 miles out in the woods.
After that, life keeps going for Izuku and Katsuki. They learn to live together, how to adapt to all the various quirks of sharing a body, how to use the powers Izuku can give Katsuki, and how to keep Izuku well hidden.
It’s all going great, right up until Katsuki makes it into an extremely prestigious boarding school; UA. It’s his dream high school, but it’s so much harder to hide the fact he’s got an alien living in his body when he’s living with other teenagers, and the security at the school is much higher than what he’s used to. For fuck’s sake, the vice president’s kid goes to this school! There’s no way they aren’t getting caught.
Still, Izuku doesn’t want Katsuki to give up on his dream and encourages him, so Katsuki reluctantly goes to UA anyways, trying his best to keep Izuku hidden.
But there are... incidents. Not ones where anyone dies, but people seem intent on harassing Katsuki, from fellow classmates to muggers outside the school, and Izuku is very protective by nature. After a few of these ‘incidents’, a certain underground branch of the government starts getting suspicious again, launching an investigation into the school.
Meanwhile, Aizawa, Katsuki’s primary teacher, has started noticing lots of weird things about Katsuki. Like how he always has two columns in his notebooks, with one side full of carefully written notes and the other side filled with random excited musings in rushed handwriting. Or how sometimes he'll seem to become a different person for a moment, or how he seems to vanish at odd moments.
Weirdest of all is his homework/essays, where Aizawa would swear half the time it's a different person writing them (he only knows for a fact it's Katsuki doing both, since he's watched the kid write most of his essays at various stages in the library). The core ideals themselves seem to change between essays, and that’s what bothers him the most since he’s never seen that in a student before.
Being the good concerned teacher he is, Aizawa considered all the evidence before he called Katsuki into his office. Katsuki and Izuku are sure they've been caught.
Then Aizawa asks Katsuki if he's ever been tested to having multiple personalities.
And listen, Katsuki does not believe in faking mental disorders. But by this point, he's really worried that the government is gonna get Izuku, so when he sees the chance to excuse all his weird behaviors he latches on with everything he’s got.
So Katsuki explained, while trying to lie as little as possible, that he's never formally been tested (and he doesn't want to be), but there is another person living in his body named Izuku. Izuku is very shy though, and would prefer to not be mentioned/brought attention to. As such he asked Aizawa to not tell anyone else about him. Aizawa agreed easily, after all he doesn’t see any real risk from Izuku, and he’s happy that Katsuki was honest with him about the situation. He tells both of them that they can come talk to him any time if they need help, Katsuki agreed to that, and for a little while Izuku & Katsuki were safe.
I dunno exactly how the class finds out about Izuku, but I do know that Iida is one of the first ones during a tense situation. As a result, Katsuki and Izuku get to watch as straight laced goody two shoes Iida looks a government agent right in the eyes and lies his ass off to him to protect Izuku.
For this AU, the ‘Kidnapping’ happens when the government managed to catch onto Katsuki. They’re sure they’ve finally found the alien, and they move in to capture Katsuki.
Only, Katsuki gets wind of this ahead of time, so in a quick moment of desperation, he forces a weakened Izuku to transfer off of him and onto Shouto, since Enji is like the vice president in this AU and that makes Shouto much, much harder for a government agency to fuck with. Shouto is somewhat aware of what Izuku is, and he agrees to take the other to safety.
Poor Izuku can only watch as Katsuki is captured, while Shouto forces him to stay hidden for all their safety.
It's okay though, because the four people who know about Izuku and what happened (Shouto, Kirishima, Iida, and Momo) decide to break into the government base to get Katsuki back, with Izuku's help obviously.
They get most of the way through their super secret infiltration mission, but something goes wrong and they’re almost caught.
Until while they're hiding and the people search for them are a hair away from discovering them, an absolutely furious Aizawa just fucking waltzes in with the fucking president (All-Might for this AU) to demand his student back.
Now at this point, the agency has no actual proof of alien life. They have half connected incidents and eyewitness reports, but nothing definitive. When they took Katsuki into custody, they’d tested him immediately, sure that they were going to get their proof that way, but since Katsuki no longer has Izuku, the tests all came back negative. As such they have no real justification for having basically kidnapped him.
The agent guy or whoever has been chasing them tries to justify themselves by offering proof of 'Izuku' existence, specifically recordings of Katsuki talking to himself and referring to an ‘Izuku’ as well as written notes. Aizawa's responds that he was already aware of Izuku, that Katsuki had already discussed the other with him, and that he cannot believe they've detained a 16 year old on account of him having multiple personalities. All-Might backs Aizawa up, and shuts down the entire thing as there’s no evidence they’ve done anything but harass Katsuki.
That leaves the agents shit out of luck, so they have to let Katsuki go. The other kids sneak out the way they came in, before quietly joining Aizawa and Katsuki. Aizawa waits until everyone is outside and out of range of any cameras, and then he just turns on the entire group.
"Okay, so first of all, I'm extremely disappointed that you four decided to break into a government agency with armed guards before so much as texting me."
"I'm so sorry sir."
"We could've thought that through a little better, I'll admit."
"Katsuki was in trouble, but yeah, I guess we could've asked for help."
"I stand by what I did and I'd do it again."
Aizawa, actively chooses to ignore Shouto's comment for right now, but does still glare at him for it.
"Second of all, that man may be a fool, but I am not. Where's the alien?”
Everyone's quiet for a tense moment before Izuku makes his choice and pokes his head out from Shouto, introducing himself politely.
After getting a full explanation on what happened, Aizawa gives Katsuki a Look (tm) to which Katsuki defends himself.
“Listen, I did not lie, I just purposefully omitted that the person living in my body is also an actual alien from outer space.”
And Aizawa can’t really argue with that, so he just accepts that his class has an extra student in it from now on.
They let the rest of class 1-A in on the Izuku secret, since a lot of them had been coming close to figuring it out anyways, and so the entire class slowly adjusts to having an alien as one of them. It’s surprisingly easy to come to terms with, and as Izuku slowly starts coming out of his shell (ie hiding inside Katsuki whenever someone tries to talk to him), the entire class discovers he’s a total sweetheart & adore him.

“There's very little happiness in having him back in the family” just popping in to say Nah don’t agree especially when we look back on how the family was negatively affected by Touya’s “death” I think there would be happiness in having him back and alive even if it is in jail!
The most important thing is that I won't be happy because this is such an unrealistic approach that I just wanna puke. Like, mate, if your family member committed mass murder, almost caused the death of other family members, never showed regret for anything and at the top of that joined the organisation that plummeted your country into civil war, will you be fucking happy?
Like, sure, this is fiction so everyone will hug at the end and be like "we love you so much" but in real life at some point, you won't feel anything but visceral disgust and dissapointment and guilt. And you will have to live with the fact that your son/brother did all that and everyone knows that and it will be brought up and it will be brought up and at some point, you'll start wishing he would be better off dead. Outside Enji, no one even did anything to deserve this shit
And, like, Touya never showed any sympathy for his victims and he never showed any sympathy for his friends. He manipulates, he kills and he doesn't give a fuck. And if all of a sudden in the last pages of manga he would be like "oh actually there's so much good at me" like he wasn't planning to kill his brother and his dad a moment ago, I will really be disgusted
I am so tired of unempathetic self-centred characters getting forgiven when they did literally nothing to deserve forgiveness. Like, sure, go eat udon with your bro who tried to kill ya, outside that unfortunate event he is a very nice person (no). It's fascinating to me that Dabi can attempt the murder of his family members and destabilise the entire country and people are eager to forgive him while Endeavor abused his family and has to go through an entire redemption arc and people still don't want this shit. No, redeem the mass murderer!!!
Also, everyone was really happy in the hospital scene when they *checks notes* were overwhelmed with guilt and Enji was crying his eyes out. I didn't even say there was "no happiness", but "very little". But, you know, they could have healed without him coming back to life. In fact, they started moving forward when he appeared and fucked up the entire country with his friends and only magic saved Rei from relapse (jk she is strong and we are proud of her)
Honestly, all of this is my preference, not an analysis of characters. Sure, Horikoshi doesn't have to do realism but if Shouto talks about inviting him to udon one more time, I am killing someone. Because I don't like this pretentious shit. You can disagree to the moon and back and have a shitton of very valid arguments but here's a thing - I just don't like this. I don't want to see everyone happy to see their murderous son/brother. If he is to survive I hope everyone is very sad. Because it's my preference and I hope people will finally stop telling me they disagree, like, c'mon 🙏🙏🙏 I am allowed to have my personal opinions please and thank you

What do you think of Shouto's response to Kirishima's "You didn't even do anything-" in the bath chapter? I'm curious because I don't know what to think of it myself and you brought it up in one of your recent answers - I do hope it's not meant to imply that Shouto is also at fault for what happened with the current situation and bad press surrounding his family.....but the framing is so clunky it's kind of hard to think of it as just him being very critical of himself for his past attitude, when it actually doesn't have anything to do with what happened.
I think you need to look at the whole context to understand what Shouto is talking about.
Tumblr media
The discussion basically goes like:
Satou: Why doesn't Endeavor come inside?
Shouto: Because he can't show his face. Seeing him would cause the citizens unease; because they are reminded that he's brought this on them in some ways, scared that Dabi may attack, because they hate him and blame him for failing to protect them, because he's been revealed as a false hero - take your pick.
[Momo trying to change the subject]
Shouto: And because I'm connected with both Dabi and Endeavor, people may also project those feelings onto me - my presence is also a cause of unease for them.
Kiri: That's totally unfair, you did nothing wrong, bro, {to deserve to be treated as a concern.} (but also note Kirishima doesn't actually contradict Shouto on the fact that he is impacted by the citizens' hatred, so the class may have seen it happen)
Shouto: Well, in a way I did, back before I changed.
So based on this, I'm fairly certain that Shouto is talking about how his Early-roki behaviour played into that public perception of him. We have seen this already in small-scale with Inasa that Shouto's real hurdle to become the hero he wants to be is constantly being tied back to Endeavor, and how his own behaviour created the perception that he was "exactly like his father".
Now, the public has been exposed to Shouto in the Sport Festival which was a widely watched, televised event, "bigger than the Olympics". He was explicitly introduced there through the commentators as Endeavor's son - so basically the whole country know him as such.
And the behaviour he displayed there was:
Tumblr media
Total cutthroat behaviour at the obstacle race, which he still managed to lose because he got in a stupid scuffle at the end with Bakugou
He wins the cavalry battle with an elite team, but just barely; it's really Iida who pushes through in the end
He's a total jerk to Sero, winning with an absolutely out-of-proportion attack
He quite literally goes out of control in his match against Midoriya. Instead of finishing him off, he keeps dragging it out, then he's kind of out of ideas, until FOOOOSH his fire comes in, and then it's basically just scary carnage.
His match against Iida is probably his best performance - where he's both smart and wins with something that's really safe for his opponent.
He fails to put up a fight against Bakugou - he holds back, disrespecting his opponent.
I mean we know why he was like that and that he was triggered by Endeavor and going through a huge existential change. But the audience doesn't know that.
And we saw with Bakugou how his Sport Festival performance came into play during his kidnaping to paint him as a possible villain / out of control person.
Now, with Shouto's family history revealed - Endeavor's cutthroat ambition, Rei's mental illness, Dabi dragging innocent victims into the family drama - there is no way that Sport Festival footage doesn't get brought back by the media, reinterpreted as:
Shouto is cutthroat and scary just like Endeavor
He's mentally unstable like his mother
He spins out of control like his brother
He can't be trusted to protect anyone, because he gives up
There are any number of negative spins that can be put on it, and people maybe would question if someone with Shouto's powers that can hurt so much in the wrong hands should even be a hero.
So I think this is what Shouto refers to. The understanding that his early behaviour was a bit like Endeavor and a bit like Dabi. Even if he had his reasons and trauma, he did hurt people (obviously on a much smaller scale) and did play into that public perception that perhaps puts him in the same basket as Endeavor and Touya.
In a way, we are basically re-hashing the highlights of Shouto's arc - he wants to be different then Endeavor, but is limited by his hate. Then he finds his hero goal as to be a hero who puts people at ease. But before he can achieve that, the family drama and his own early behaviour is an obstacle he needs to overcome. He knows he's changed, his classmates know it, we know it too, but his challenge is to somehow show it to the world who he is, and overcome the toxic family legacy.
Tumblr media
I personally think it would have deserved to be expanded on more. Like show us a bit of that public out-lash reaching Shouto or an article that connects him to the SF and see him agonizing a bit more over this.
But we got it in bullet-form point, so even readers with short attention spans can remember the stakes / win condition for Shouto.

shopping mall dates with your friends were always something you looked forward to, shoto knew this well. so why had you come back to the dorms empty-handed?
Tumblr media
The familiar ringtone playing from your phone woke you up from your slumber, as bright sunlight shone through your windows where the curtains did poor job of providing you with any coverage. You opened your eyes and would’ve immediately shut them if not for the music still coming from your phone on your nightstand.
Swinging a hand blindly over, you felt the cool screen of your device and brought it close to your face, as an all too familiar contact name displayed on the top of the screen.
Grumbling slightly, you pressed the answer button and brought it up to your ear.
“Y/N!! Are you still sleeping??” You almost wanted to hang up right then and there from the cheery girl’s voice ringing into your ear.
“Mina, it’s-” You glanced over at your alarm clock on the same nightstand, “-literally 9 in the morning, what do you want-”
“Come on! You remember we have another shopping day today, right??”
You rubbed your eyes and rolled over in bed on your side, away from the blinding light illuminating through the glass windows.
Shopping dates with your girlfriends in Class 1-A took place almost every weekend, something you always looked forward to. Hero training was stressful, everyone was always striving to further improve and expand their quirks and skill, almost never having time for any sort of break.
Truthfully, you had forgotten about your planned day with the girls today, since it had been a pretty tough week, with work piling up on top of one another, heck, you were barely keeping up your grades.
“Oh...right.” You ran your fingers through your somewhat messy, medium-length hair, attempting to comb it slightly and getting rid of the small knots that had been formed in your sleep.
“Hey, don’t tell me you forgot - anyways, we’re meeting up downstairs at 10, so see you later!!”
“Yeah, alright.”
Quiet beeps signaling the end of your short call with Mina, you sighed and wondered how the alien girl managed to stay so hyper in the morning, not that you were surprised anymore.
Sitting up in bed, you let out a yawn and stretched out your body, excited for the day to come.
On some days, you just wanted to sleep in and have a day all to yourself in the comfort of your small dorm room, but these shopping sprees with the girls always took your mind off any troubles on your mind.
Throwing your blanket to the side lazily, you get up from your bed and groggily made your way to the bathroom, phone still in hand. Flicking on the light switch, you cringed at the sudden brightness.
A notification noise sounded from your phone, a smile spreading across your face as soon as you saw who the sender was - your one and only white and red haired boyfriend.
Unlocking your phone, you were met by a few text messages from your lover.
shouu <33 : good morning love, have you woken up yet?
shouu <33 : you’re going out today with the others right? i wish you could come and be with me, but i hope you have fun.💗
Your heart could not handle this level of cuteness in the morning.
Turning on the water to get ready for your morning shower, you typed out a reply to your boyfriend.
good morning shouto 🥺 i just woke upp
imy so much as well, i promise i’ll be with you when i get back!!💕
You stripped off your clothes and hopped into the shower, the water more on the warm side, exactly how you liked it.
After about 20 minutes, you stepped out with a towel wrapped around your torso, the cool air hitting your legs, making you shiver slightly. You made your way over to your closet in the corner of your room, picking out what clothes to wear.
It was scorching hot out, and you were feeling lazy, so a simple black t-shirt and a pair of jean shorts seemed like a good choice.
The time was about 9:40 when you had finished brushing your teeth and mindlessly slapping on some sunscreen, you didn’t want to become tan, after all.
Internally crying, you shoved your wallet with your credit card inside your small purse you usually brought when you went shopping, making a note to yourself to cut down a bit on your purchases.
You knew that promise was going to go out the window as soon as you step foot in a store, but hey, you always felt better after coming back to the dorms with bags of clothing in your hands.
Deciding to head down to the common room earlier to grab a quick snack to eat, you received another message from your phone.
shouu <33 : i’ll be waiting for you, love.
shouu <33 : are you sure you don’t want to use my father’s credit card? i don’t think he would really care if it gets maxed out, you know.
You giggled at your boyfriend’s message even though you knew he was being 100% serious.
                                                                                   shou...bby, i cant do that-
shouu <33 : alright then, be safe and text me when you get there, okay?
                                                                                                            i will! ily <33
shouu <33 : i love you too :)
When you reached the common room, you were met by pink, black, green, and brown haired girls.
“Y/N!! Good morning!!”
“Good morning, Y/N.”
“Hey Y/N-chan, ribbit.”
“Oh hey Y/N!”
You smile at your energetic friends, Mina, Momo, Tsu and Uraraka, who were all lounging on the couches.
“Good morning, guys.”
Mina lets out a whine, “Where is Jirou? That girl is almost always never on time-”
“What’s that, Mina?”
A voice from behind the girls spoke, causing everyone to jump and turn at the same time.
“O-oh good morning Jirou-”
The purple haired girl stood behind the couches, and your eyes scanned over her outfit. A white, loose short sleeve hung around her shoulders, paired with some black shorts. A simple outfit, yet she made it look so much more appealing.
She charged towards Mina, who was now desperately hiding behind Uraraka. It was then that you finally took notice of the other girls’ outfits, and suddenly became all too aware of your own.
Mina, with a pink shirt tucked into her jeans, a black belt as a finishing touch. Her curves showing perfectly, all in the right places. You would expect her pink hair to be messy and puffy, but it was tamed, neatly brushed, and reminded you of soft cotton candy.
A cropped maroon top, with black jeans, complementing Momo’s smooth, black hair which was put up in a lower pony tail than usual. Her gentle features sure to attract admirers wherever she went. The way her dark bangs framed her face, the way her smile was bright, genuine - an appearance of a true, proper lady.
You glanced down at your own outfit, trying to smooth out wrinkles in your own shirt. No genius was required to see that you obviously stood out in your group of feminine friends, you being the only female with short hair and a different style.
It wasn’t that you hated the way you looked, but it made you think sometimes that you weren’t as attractive or liked as much, compared to your friends.
“Well then,” Uraraka clasped her hands together, interrupting your thoughts, and grinned. “Shall we get going?”
You all cheered, getting up and ready to head to the shopping mall.
Mina locked her arms in yours and dragged you out of the doors, grinning at you while the other girls trailed behind.
“Come on old ladies! We’re gonna max out our cards!!” She yelled at the sky once you were outside, the hot summer air hitting your skin immediately.
“Hey, who’re you calling an old lady?!” You smacked Mina’s arm, making her stick her tongue out at you.
“Fine, whoever gets there last is an old lady!!”
Your pink haired friend takes off toward the mall which was located about 20 minutes away from your school, with you laughing and running after her, followed by your other female friends.
The negative thoughts you had on your mind previously vanished as you all ran after one another, not giving a care in the world to the questioning looks passersby shot your ways. Spending time with your friends always somehow managed to brighten your mood, regardless of whether they knew how you were feeling or not.
And your love for them could never be put into words.
6 girls arrived at the Misako Mall, panting, out of breath as they bought water from a vending machine.
“Oh-” You pant, fumbling with the buttons on the machine, inserting a few coins in and watching as the bottle falls to the bottom.
“Ura-ha..ha...Uraraka, you’re an old...ha...lady!” Mina teased the gravity-quirked girl in between breaths.
“Yo-you’re so mean, ha, Mina,” Uraraka coughed, sputtering as she practically shoved the water bottle down her throat, drinking half of the bottle in a few seconds.
“Slow down - ribbit - Ochaco-chan,” Tsu patted the said girl’s back, making sure she didn’t choke.
“Well, guys, where do you want to go first?” Momo spoke up, after you guys rested a bit on the benches in the lobby.
“I kind of wanted to check out the accessories in that shop we passed earlier,” Jirou scratched the back of her neck awkwardly, nodding towards a shop near the entrance of the mall.
You all turned to look at the store she was talking about, not surprised to see the exterior of the shop decorated in dark, emo-style accessories - exactly Jirou’s style.
“I want to go there too - ribbit,” Tsu nodded in agreement, this time shocking the group, since Tsu had always seemed to be into more cuter accessories.
“I was actually interested in that one over there,” Momo tapped her chin thoughtfully, gesturing towards a high-class looking store on the second floor of the mall.
“That looks nice! I really like that white dress they have in the front,” Uraraka stared dreamily at the level above you guys, and an idea popped into your head.
“Why don’t we split into pairs? That way, we can all check out the stores we want to and meet up back here when we’re all done!” Your suggestion earned approving nods from the rest, all of you agreeing to text in the groupchat you had when you were finished in your stores.
Tsu and Jirou, Momo and Uraraka, and you and Mina walked off into different directions of the mall, chatting excitedly.
You and Mina decided to first go into a casual-styled store filled with jeans, tops, jackets, etc.
Walking into the store, a friendly cashier at the counter greeted you guys, who you both smiled back at.
Thankful for the cool air conditioner providing a contrast to the burning weather outside, you scanned the racks for anything that caught your eye.
“Oh! Y/N look here!” You turned to where your pink friend had ran to, spotting her a few aisles down.
Making your way towards her, she holds up a light pink, off the shoulder top decorated with small flowers and a lace ribbon in her hands eagerly.
“Do you think this would look good on me? I really like the color!” She beams at you, holding the clothing item up to herself, admiring it in a tall mirror nearby.
You study it for a second, before smiling back at her and nodding excitedly in agreement.
“It suits your skin color so well too! You should go try it on!”
“You think so??” She grins at you happily as you chuckle back in response.
“You should pick out some clothes first, then we can go to the changing rooms together!”
“Okay, let me look around a bit more!” You walk off to the other side of the store, studying any clothes that may peak your interest.
A striped red, orange, and white button-up shirt catches your eye, hanging on one of the racks. You take it and hold it up to your torso, satisfied with the way it looked.
Keeping it around your arm to try on later, you decide to pick out a few more clothes to try on to avoid making multiple trips to the changing room. Just as you were about to turn around and continue your search for more clothes, you felt a figure approach behind you.
“Hey, uh, sorry to bother you but I thought you were really pretty, and I was wondering if I could get your number?”
A voice made you turn around, and you were met by a man who looked a bit older than you.
He was standing right in front of you now, his eyes staring at...the top of your head?
You cleared your throat awkwardly, not expecting the sudden question.
“Oh! Thank you, but I have a boyfriend already, I’m sorry-”
The man’s eyes finally focus on your face, before laughing at you.
Wait, what?
You furrowed your eyebrows at the still laughing man, who looked down at you like you were a mere piece of dirt below him.
“I’m not talking to you, you’re not even pretty?” He scoffed when you gaped at him.
“I’m talking to the hottie behind you,” He grinned and stared past you to whoever was standing there.
You slowly turned around, expecting to see some random stranger behind you, but you were met by a puff of familiar pink hair.
“O-oh, Mina...” You mumbled, not wanting to make eye contact with your friend, disheartened from the man’s words.
You were never one to get bothered by anyone’s words, especially not from a stranger, but this one hit you differently.
“What did you say to my friend?! You wanna repeat that, huh?!” Mina yelled at the man, steam almost emitting out of her pink ears.
“Woah, calm down, pinkie, I just wanted to get your number - I didn’t know she was your friend.” He chuckled, and glanced at you again.
“Just saying, you could do so much better.” It was like bullets, the man’s words, aimed straight at your heart.
Storming up to the man, Mina slapped him directly on his face, leaving both of you in shock.
“Say that again, I dare you!!” You ushered Mina away from the furious man despite her protests of wanting to beat him up.
“Hmph, who does he think he is?!” You stopped walking when you guys were a good distance from the stranger.
You bit your lip, trying to suppress your emotions and not make a fool of yourself in a public space.
“It’s fine, I-I don’t really care,” Sighing, you gave Mina a small unconvincing smile, which she saw right through.
“Are you okay, Y/N? Don’t listen to him! He’s just blind,” She huffed, crossing her arms over her chest.
You chuckled softly, trying to change the subject, “I’m fine, come on, let’s go try on our clothes.”
Mina sighed, eyeing the one top you had on your arm. “You only have one shirt? Don’t you want to try on more?”
You scanned the racks around you guys, randomly picking a pair of black plaid pants, flashing your friend another smile.
“It’s okay, there’s not much I like here,” You grabbed her arm and led her into the changing rooms, chuckling at her pile of clothes hanging over her arm.
“You sure got a lot, Mina.”
“Their clothes are really nice!!”
Mina and you went into rooms besides each other, and you could hear the girl squealing while trying on her clothing.
Instead of trying on your clothes immediately, you slumped against the white door, taking a deep breath, the man’s comments still on your mind.
You’re not even pretty.
You could do so much better.
Wrapping your arms around your torso, you looked in the mirror on the wall across you, taking in your appearance.
There were few things about you that would seem appealing to any man, and you should’ve gotten over the stares people give you wherever you go by now, but it was hard.
It really was.
Of course people would be attracted to Mina first, or anyone in your friend group, for that matter. She was outgoing, kind, bright, and feminine.
Tears poking at the corners of your eyes, you quickly wiped them away with the back of your hand before they fell.
Why couldn’t people just accept who you were?
Why couldn’t people accept the fact that you were happy in your own body, and that you loved yourself the way you were?
The common stereotype that all females had to be feminine, had to be proper, you were tired of it.
A loud knock from the other side of the door you were leaning against sounded, and you jumped a little, before hearing your friend’s cheery voice.
“Y/N! Are you finished? I want to show you the top!”
“Oh- One second!”
Quickly tidying up your appearance to get rid of any hints of your silent breakdown, you unlocked the door and looked over Mina.
You were right.
The light pink color of the top really did complement her skin color well, her slender shoulders were exposed, and the lacey ribbon around the collarbone area of her shirt gave it a finishing touch.
Gasping, you admired how good it looked on her, while she giggled and jumped excitedly in place.
“It looks so beautiful on you Mina!!” You gave her a small hug, giggling along. “It’s like it was made for you!”
“Thanks!! What about your clothes?” She nodded towards your top and pants still sitting in the changing room, untouched.
You coughed, “Oh- uh give me a second, I still need to try on the top,” She nodded and pushed you back into the room eagerly.
“Show me when you’re done!”
You nodded and smiled back at her before walking back into the room and locking the door behind you.
You had already lost all interest in shopping today, but reluctantly changed into the striped button-up shirt, looking at yourself in the mirror.
It was okay, nothing really special, and you certainly wouldn’t be spared any second glances from anyone. Not that you cared, you were already in a happy and healthy relationship with Shoto.
Shoto.
A thought suddenly popped into your mind.
What did Shoto think about your appearance? Coming from a rich family, it was only natural that he would be into proper, feminine females.
Why was he even dating you? Does he actually mean it every time he calls you beautiful?
Maybe you should change your hairstyle. Or the way you dressed. Maybe then, Shoto would love you.
Maybe then, he would think you’re beautiful.
Running your hand through your short strands of hair, you suddenly didn’t want to be here anymore.
You wished you were in the safety of your dorm, under the blankets where no one would have to look at you.
You were probably an eyesore, walking around everyday at school, getting judgmental looks from left to right.
Shaking your head, you tried to push those thoughts to the back of your mind, straightening yourself back up.
Unlocking the door again, wanting to get this day over with, you were met by a excited Mina as she looked over at you. You noticed that she had changed back to her own shirt.
“You look great Y/N!!” She hopped excitedly over to you as she admired your top.
You shrugged, glancing down at your top. “I mean, it’s okay, I guess.”
She raised her eyebrows at your response, asking worriedly, “Do you not like it?”
“Not really, it’s kind of plain.” Sighing, you picked at the sleeves and wrinkles of the shirt.
“Oh,” Mina pursed her lips together, cocking her head to the side. “That’s alright, then. What about the pants?”
Truth was, you had forgotten to try on the pants while you were inside, and you didn’t want to risk purchasing something you weren’t sure would look good on you.
“Oh-uh, I didn’t like that one too much either,” You glanced back at the item still hanging in the changing room.
“Oh no,” Mina pouted. “Are you going to buy anything?”
Biting your lip, you shook your head. “Guess not.”
It wasn’t really that you didn’t want to buy anything, you just thought that at this point, it didn’t matter what you wore.
Because, you weren’t as feminine as other girls.
"Give me a second to change back, and we can go to another store.” She looked like she was about to say something, but decided to close her mouth and nodded instead.
The remaining time you spent with Mina was just her jumping around stores excitedly and you mindlessly staring at clothes you wouldn’t ever buy.
It was about 2 in the afternoon when you all decided to meet back up, ready to head back to school.
You realized that you hadn’t bought a single item in the past 4 hours spent in wandering around the mall.
“Y/N! Did you not buy anything?” Momo asks worriedly as you and Mina approach the other two pairs in the lobby.
You shook your head at the tall girl, sighing, “Nothing really caught my eye today.”
“Oh, we can walk around a bit more together if you’d like!” Uraraka offers, holding a large bag in her own hands.
You smiled at her words, shaking your head again. “No, it’s alright! I’m sure we’re all tired, let’s head back.”
“Gosh, this weird man came up to us earlier and had the audacity to call our little Y/N here unattractive??! And then proceeded to ask for my number??” Mina huffed, clenching her fists dramatically at the memory.
You chuckled awkwardly. “Mina, you didn’t have to slap the poor man.”
“Poor man? By the sounds of it, he hasn’t learned his lesson yet.” Jirou speaks up, cracking her knuckles, eyes darkening. “Where is he?”
You laughed. “Jirou-”
“Oh dear, that’s terrible.” Momo patted your shoulder. “You’re very beautiful, Y/N, you know that?”
You smiled at the kind girl, letting out a deep breath.
“I understand where he’s coming from, though...” You mumbled quietly.
“Did you say something, Y/N?” Uraraka asks from next to you.
Shaking your head quickly, you link your arms with the brown haired girl, grinning at everyone. “Let’s head back now!”
Pushing open the large glass doors, you were met once again by the humid air, the sun’s rays burning down on your exposed skin.
The girls chattered happily about their new purchases, peeking inside the others’ bags and taking a couple out to show.
Even though you walked in the middle of Uraraka and Momo, you couldn’t help but feel left out, not having any new clothing to wear.
Swallowing the lump in your throat, you nudged Momo, making her turn around and look at you.
“Hey Yaomomo, what’d you get?”
She smiled and opened her bag for you to peek inside, and you almost had to close your eyes from the amount of bling inside,
Bling, meaning dresses decorated in gems, with a few jewelry pieces and other accessories. Of course, there were a couple casual wear on the bottom of the bag.
“Oh, I’m not even surprised anymore,” You pretended to huff at Momo, turning the other way.
“You’re so classy and fancy, Yaomomo, are you trying to flex your class on me?”
She laughed, slapping your back lightly. “Oh sorry, I just can’t help that I’m so rich and proper.”
You tensed up at her words. Of course, you knew she was being sarcastic, but her use of words hit the same spot in you again as earlier.
“Hey guys...” Mina starts, wiggling her eyebrows.
“What?” An ominous feeling settles in all of your stomachs.
“Last one to the dorms is an old lady!”
All of you groan, watching as the pink alien girl takes off once again, having no choice but to follow behind.
6 girls arrived back at the dorm building, panting once again.
“Mina- ha, I swear to - god,” You breathe out, pants coming from all six of you.
Mina just giggles at you as you all arrive back in the common room. Your classmates are sprawled out in different places throughout the room, and their heads all perk up simultaneously at the new arrivals.
Bakugou were surrounded by Kirishima, Kaminari and Sero, as always, trying his best to swat them away.
Tokoyami and Aoyama were chatting in the kitchen, while Iida, Midoriya and Shoto hung around the TV, watching whatever movie was put on.
Ojiro, Koda, Shoji, and Sato were nowhere to be seen, you guessed they were up in their own rooms.
“Oh, hey guys! Welcome back!” A certain red-head’s voice chirped from the middle of the room, flashing you all his big smile.
“Hey Kirishima!” Mina smiled back at the boy before making her way up to her own room to organize her newly bought items.
Momo, Tsu, Jirou, and Uraraka followed after her, while you made your way over to where your boyfriend was on one of the other couches.
“Hey, love.” Shoto smiles at you softly as he opens his arms for you to give him a hug.
“Hey Sho,” You happily accept your place in his arms, tired from the long day you had. “I missed you.”
“I missed you as well,” He plants a small kiss on the top of your head. He was about to say something else before a realization dawns on him.
“Love, did you not buy anything?” You gulp, afraid that your boyfriend would see through your feelings and ask you what was wrong.
“Oh- uh, I just didn’t feel like anything caught my eye today!” You shrug, hoping that he would accept your answer and move on.
Of course, Shoto could be dense at times, but he is everything but stupid.
He always knew how you adored these little shopping sprees with your girls, and never once had you arrived back empty handed. On top of that, your vibe just seemed a bit...off.
“Can we go to your room and cuddle? I’m a little tired,” You look up at him, to which he responded by giving you a small kiss and chuckling.
“Of course, let’s go, love.”
After saying goodbye to Iida and Midoriya, you both made your way to Shoto’s dorm, immediately flopping down on the bed after stepping inside.
Shoto laughed softly at your eagerness, wasting no time and following in after, wrapping his arms around your waist and pressing you flush against his chest.
The warmth and vanilla scent of your boyfriend was enough to calm you down and get rid of any past bad thoughts you were having earlier that day.
You felt him bury his face inside your hair, inhaling softly your shampoo from this morning. Normally, you would’ve swooned at the action, but it somehow made you feel uneasy. Insecure.
Shriveling away a little from his body, you were met by a very confused Shoto staring back at you.
“...Love?”
You bit your lip, not sure how to explain why you seemed uncomfortable.
“I-,uh, Shoto?” Your eyes made contact with his as he hummed in response. You decided it was now or never.
“Do you...think I’m pretty?” Biting your lip anxiously as you awaited his answer.
Confusion flashed through your boyfriend’s face. What kind of a question was that?
That was what he wanted to ask, until he noticed the tears forming in your eyes, and worriedly sat up, bringing you with him.
“Of course I think you’re pretty. You’re beautiful, darling.”
Not convinced, you sniffle before asking again, “Really?”
He furrows his eyebrows together, lifting you up and onto his lap so you were straddling him now, both of you in a sitting position.
“Did something happen, love? Why are you asking me these questions?” He reaches up to wipe a stray tear that had slipped its way through your eyes with his thumb.
“No reason-” You started, but your boyfriend’s piercing gaze told you he wouldn’t take that as an answer.
Taking a deep breath, you avoided his eyes as you began to speak.
“Today, when we were at the mall, a man came up to me, called me pretty, and asked for my number-”
Shoto raises his eyebrows, to which you wave away quickly.
“-I thought he was talking to me, but turns out he was speaking to Mina, who had been standing behind me. He then called me-” You cleared your throat, a bit anxious for your boyfriend’s reaction.
“He said that I wasn’t pretty, and that Mina could do so much better than being friends with someone like me...” Your voice trails off as you felt Shoto’s grip on your waist tighten.
“He...what?” You could’ve sworn you saw flames flicker behind Shoto’s eyes, his left and right hands heating and cooling on your sides without thinking, to which you yelped a little, surprised by the temperature change.
His eyes softened, looking down at your waist and rubbing it softly. “Oh- I’m sorry, love, I did not mean to hurt you.”
You shake your head, smiling at him. “You didn’t hurt me at all, Shoto.”
He exhales deeply, looking into your eyes. “Baby, you’re the most beautiful, kind, amazing girl I’ve ever met in my life. Don’t ever listen to what anyone else says, you’re absolutely perfect the way you are.”
Shoto plants a deep kiss on your lips, tears threatening to spill over at his touching words.
When you pull away, there’s still a lingering thought in the back of your mind.
“Don’t you ever wish - that you had a more...you know...” You rubbed your eyes, sniffling as the first few tears made their ways down your cheeks.
Shoto tilts his head to the side as he pulls you closer to his body, rubbing soothing circles on your lower back.
“A what, love?”
“You know, a more...feminine...girlfriend?”
You nervously glance at him, waiting for his response.
There’s silence for a moment, and your heart drops.
“Who ever said that girls have to be feminine?”
You directly look into his eyes for the first time that evening, confusion plastered on your face.
Shoto has a soft and loving, but firm expression as he speaks.
“I don’t care if you dress, or appear differently than other girls. There is no “correct” way to look if you are a certain gender. You’re absolutely beautiful no matter what you do, or wear.” He leans forward to peck your lips once again.
“But...when I look at someone like Yaomomo, she’s just - so much more attractive and proper than someone like me...”
Shoto sighs, tilting your chin down to look at him.
“Proper? What’s not proper about you, Y/N? Your hair? Your clothing choices? Baby, you could wear a trash bag, have long hair - or even shave your head bald, I’d still fall in love with you all over again.”
You giggle a little, making him chuckle, seeing that he successfully cheered you up a bit.
“I mean it, Y/N. I love you, and I’ll continue loving you, forever. Please don’t ever feel like you have to compare yourself to other girls, because you’ll always be the prettiest girl in my heart.”
Your heart felt like it was on the verge of bursting as you leant forward, kissing your boyfriend deeply. It was like all your emotions were expressed through that kiss. It was almost as if Shoto’s loving words washed away every single insecurity that has ever passed your mind in your whole life.
“Thank you so much, Shoto. I love you, so, so much.” You both grin as you placed your foreheads together, noses brushing against each other.
“I want you to say it, love. Tell me you love yourself, and that you’re beautiful.”
Your face heated up from the request, placing your hands on Shoto’s shoulders and trying to push him away, only to have your wrists caught by his strong hands as he leaned closer.
“Come on, Y/N, I’m waiting,” he smirks at your flustered expression.
You pouted a bit, before taking a deep breath, embarrassed from Shoto’s intense stare.
“I-uh- I love myself the way I am, and...I’m beautiful.” You squealed and cover your face with your hands after finishing your sentence, not used to those words coming out of your mouth.
A laugh escapes Shoto as he pries your hands away from your face, placing a kiss on your nose.
“That’s right, love. What do you say we go shopping tomorrow, just me and you?”
Your eyes brightened at the idea, and Shoto could feel butterflies flooding his stomach.
“Yes!! I’d love that, Shoto,” You threw your arms around your boyfriend’s neck, burying your face into his hair.
He chuckles in response, leaning back and studying your face for a moment, making you confused.
Then, he takes your arms and pushes you back until your back is pressed against the bed, pinning them above you. His body hovers over yours, as his knee sneakily moves up to place itself between your thighs.
“But right now, let me show you just how beautiful you are, darling.”

Tumblr media
✒︎ a little fall of rain
his hand rises onto the air, eyes boring over the palm that awaited the cold, slightly refreshing feeling of the falling drop of water from the dark skies from above.
"it's raining, huh?" shouto retracts his hand back and averts his gaze over your form, your head tilted up as the umbrella shaded a part of your face. you look at him and gave a warm smile, a temperature much different from the one around the both of you. it radiates from your form no matter how much shouto didn't know how.
"do you need an umbrella? mine's big enough for the two of us to fit, if you want to share."
the question didn't really threw him aback, not that it was obvious. still, it took awhile for him to answer since you and shouto never really had a proper conversation before. sure, you and him shared information or opinion at least once or twice whenever you get on the same group in schoolwork but never anything other than academic stuff. he was pretty sure you two never had a bond to begin with.
"thank you." he says when he stood next to you, "do you want me to hold it instead?" he refers to the shared umbrella and you easily accepted the offer, laughing it off that it would be easier that way since usually, it would be you who does it to others and it's a good change every once in awhile.
shouto enjoyed the silence, even more so with you as you two walked side by side, hands slightly brushing due to being at the close proximity from you both. he didn't mind. actually, he was more worried that you'd be uncomfortable since—
"do you want to exchange places?" he inquires, breaking the peace. yet for some reason, you were able to bring it back, almost in an instant.
"no it's fine." you say with a reassuring and genuine tone. he felt like he should believe you, but his mind was still filled with anxiety that the years of his childhood had brought him until this very day.
you and shouto had been classmates for so long already. surely, you know of the story about his right side—the side that he despises the most. but shouto wouldn't really blame you if you don't since he never even told it to anyone. the clues the others have would be from his coldness towards the topic and becoming distant overall.
"why did you agreed to walk with me, by the way?" you look up by then, meeting his eyes with your observing ones, curious but more than enough for him to feel safe and comfortable with the conversation.
"i didn't have an umbrella." was that all?
"is that all?" your question echoed the one in his mind, being an unexpected one yet he didn't feel surprised nonetheless.
"i often see you walk the same way as i do. you and i live in the same village." he answers honestly this time, his thoughts going back to the times he'd glance over at your form, may it be on the other side of the road, or you being ahead of him, or him seeing you through the corner of his eyes, steps behind him. actually, he knew you and him would eventually be in this kind of situation soon—what he didn't know is that it would be today.
there was a slight curve of your lips, eyes narrowing just a tinge, showing an amusement in his words. shouto had been adapt into these kinds of facial expressions, but what he had a problem on was deciding if it was for a positive or negative note.
"wow, i don't know why i feel so honored. for years i thought you don't even know my first name." you chuckled, low and soft.
"why is that?"
"well of course, it's our first time talking to each other, right?" you raised a brow, making a brief eyes contact before directing them back on the road.
he knew it was probably a hint for him to try and converse with you a lot more, or maybe an invitation to always walk home together as their class ends. either way, shouto feels like it was not unpleasant at all.
after that, there was a silence once again, boring onto them like a halo over an angel's head. for shouto, he enjoys this better than talking. yet for the first time ever, there was a knot on his chest that he thinks he should let out, a statement of confirmation in his thoughts; that he wouldn't really mind if this would ever happen again, even without the presence of the rain nor the umbrella.
for a moment, he questioned this feeling, but it all vanished when he glanced sideways at your form, the thoughts suddenly drowning away by the sense of peace that you radiate—even if he didn't want to trust his intuitions. for some unknown reason, he wanted to believe that you like his company too.
"thank you." shouto deems himself to say again when you two reached his house, and he somehow dreaded how much you know about him and how he didn't even had to courtesy to know about you.
"everybody knows this is the pro hero, endeavor's house, if you're questioning my innocence." you laughed, probably seeing the look on his face.
"i'm not." he replies, speaking the actual truth. still, he didn't feel relief with your statement since it makes him remember just how well-known his father was.
"i'll repay you for your kindness soon." he follows up before you could say goodbye, a determined tone on his voice that was laced with no tony bit of hesitancy in them. he thinks the look of amusement in your face was because of that.
"well then, how about treating me to coffee sometime? let's say, this weekend. are you busy around that time?"
"i don't have anything scheduled in particular." shouto's brows curl in confusion. "are you a fan of coffee, perhaps?"
if he could count how many times you let out a giggle or a laugh, he'd say he couldn't since he wasn't able to keep up. yet even if you were letting out those lighthearted sounds, he didn't seem to mind.
"yeah, i like coffee." you say, still retaining your smile before turning on your heel by then. "see you around, shouto-kun!"
he nods and watches as you walked through the lightening rain, the sun and its setting finally visible after being covered by the dark clouds from earlier, the chirping of the birds returning from wherever they've taken shelter. even if shouto didn't know what it meant for you to invite him to coffee, he could certainly feel the radiance of your kindness, illuminating the place just like a rainbow would.
and maybe sometimes, a little fall of rain doesn't matter.

Hello 👋🏼, sorry if I’m bothering u but ever since the recent chapters of BNHA I haven’t been able to stop thinking about the Todoroki family. Not many of my friends are into this anime and I just couldn’t stop myself from sharing this with you because I need to let this out.
[SPOILER ALERT 🚨!!! IF U DONT READ THE MANGA THEN U CAN JUST IGNORE THIS]
First of all:
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!
(I’m still screaming as I write because the backstories RUINED me.)
Poor Touya having this horrible obsession over heroics and having his father acknowledge him but ever since his quirk started reacting against his body the whole family got negatively affected by it.
Rei and Enji wanted to stop at two kids but with Touya’s sudden disadvantage and the latter’s craving for power, Natsuo and later on Shouto was born (the youngest getting titled as the perfect heir from the moment he was born). I got torn seeing Touya’s eyes succumb to absolute madness at the birth of his younger brothers.
What scared me the most was how when it was just Touya and Fuyumi, the two hardly interacted despite being only a year apart in age. Touya claimed that ‘girls just don’t get it’ this small foreshadowing was later brought to light in the most recent chapter where he once again rejects Fuyumi’s company in favour of ranting to only Natsuo and where he disregards his own mother— another ‘girl’ that doesn’t understand his obsession passion for surpassing All Might and someone who plays along to the acts of those stronger than them. Touya saw his mother as a weak person who had no choice but to marry for the sake of her family and have custom children. Little Touya firmly believed his very existence depended on getting acknowledged my his father and defeating All Might but it sadly didn’t come true😭😭
Also..... LOOK AT THE BABIES!!!! They’re all so CUTE!!!
Chubby Fuyumi!!!
Natsuo with a running nose
And Baby Shouto with a meme like face since the day he was born🤣🤣🤣🤣
So ADORABLE!
And another thing. FUYUMI WAS EVEN YOUNGER THAN I THOUGHT TO HAVE STARTED ACTING LIKE A SECOND MOTHER TO HER BROTHERS!! Look at the way she defended Natsuo when Touya went on a rampage and tried to attack Touya! And during moments when Enji and Rei fought the two most notable heroes were Shouto and Fuyumi; the former fighting on the frontlines to face his father while the latter stood behind to once again care for her remaining family that though weren’t involved in the fight, they still needed emotional support to get through it.😭
I AM SO SORRY TO BE GETTING TO THIS SO LATE ANON BUT I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY!!!
TW: Spoilers, Brief Mention of Child Abuse (Physical, Emotional and Mental), General Fandom Wank
So, like, SO MUCH HAPPENED in those chapters and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ALMOST ALL OF IT! There’s obviously all the things you mentioned above that were just amazing to see and learn! I know that a majority of the fandom has been absolutely livid about the reveals involving Touya being drastically different than what fandom thought they were all this time, but I think it honestly highlights how smart Horikoshi’s writing really is.
In Shoto, we see the effects of physical and mental abuse on a child, and how easily he could have ended up going down a troubling road much like Touya. Shoto’s saving grace is facing off against Deku in the Sports Festival, giving him an outside perspective and makes him realize that he can choose to be better, but that doesn’t just magically fix all of Shoto’s problems. Shoto still struggles with his feelings towards his Father and how he is perceived by simply being Endeavor’s son. We see that in the Provisional License Arc, where Shoto is so thoroughly rattled by Inasa. It’s even further pushed through how Shoto struggles with his feelings about Endeavor trying to better and whether or not he should forgive him. I feel like Shoto’s arc is incredibly strong and that his struggles are very realistic, which is why people love him so much. This whole concept is another thing I could rant about but I’m going to leave it here.
Meanwhile, with Touya, we see the effects of mental and emotional abuse on a child and how it can completely destroy them. I think people that act like Horokoshi “down played” and “ret-conned” Endeavor as a character to make him more sympathetic/ redeemable or that he’s simply writing Touya as “always being a bad seed” are missing the mark. This is, admittedly, something you see a lot when it comes to victims of abuse in the real world as well; the idea that if you weren’t physically or sexually abused on top of emotional or mental abuse, your abuse is somehow less “valid.” Now I’ve seen more voices speaking out against this mentality - which is relieving and positive - but it’s still a problem. The way Touya was abused is no less valid or scarring to himself as a person as what Shoto has been through was. Touya and Enji clearly had a deep bond as father and son. Hell, the fact that Enji is sobbing and saying he “can’t fight his own son” in regards to Touya, but clearly had less issue training Shoto until he got ill or passed out says a lot.
Touya was put on an incredibly high pedestal by Enji’s constant praise and attention. He was the apple of his father’s eye until the limitations of his Quirk were discovered. Enji had filled his head with promises and goals for what his future would be, essentially selling him what turned out to be a lie. We see Rei herself tell Enji that Touya “knows you expect something out of the kids.” Touya’s whole life up until that point was being told of all the great he would someday accomplish, and equating that to being deserving of his Father’s love, attention and affection.
And then he couldn’t live up to that expectation. And then his parents had two more kids following that revelation. The idea that Touya doesn’t realize that Natsuo and Shoto were meant to be his replacements - unbroken models that “deserved” Enji’s love - is clearly not missed by him. It’s evident in the way he looks at Natsuo after he’s born. He sees this as a sign that he is no longer deserving - no longer worthy - of love or support from the parent he absolutely adores.
We see this mostly from Enji and Rei’s perspectives, so we know the reasons they did it, but it’s clear they didn’t stop to think about the way this would be interpreted by Touya himself. This whole matter is only worsened by the fact that Enji refuses to make sacrifices for the sake of his oldest son. He pushes Touya to live a life outside of Pro Heroics while Enji himself refuses to do the same, thus setting a positive example and showing solidarity with his son. He instead pushes him away and distances himself, loses himself in focusing on Natuso and, once his Quirk turns out to not be what he wants, Shoto. Touya continues to push himself despite his limits in a desperate bid for Enji to look at him the way he used to; with pride and love.
What caused the fire that “killed” Touya? His anguish over being neglected and abandoned - left unloved - by his father yet again. It’s clear that Touya’s mental health is in need of some real focus that he has never gotten - due to both his parents negligence as well as the fact that mental health is highly stigmatized in Japanese society - and pairing that with the emotional and mental abuse he suffered at Enji’s hands broke him.
So many people are claiming Horikoshi is trying to make Enji “more redeemable”, but how do you get that? Enji abused Rei, his own wife, physically and emotionally and mentally until she had a psychotic breakdown, hurt their youngest child, and then robbed her the right to mother her children further by having her locked up in a psych ward for the next decade or so; built their oldest son, Touya, up only to then emotionally and mentally abuse him to the point he damn near killed himself in a frantic bid to garner Enji’s support only to return years later completely unhinged and looking to murder his entire family out of spite; neglected Fuyumi and Natsuo to the care of each other and hired help; alienated Shoto, his youngest son, from his siblings for his entire formative years, physically and mentally and emotionally abused him, groomed him to accomplish a task he never wanted, put him through such extensive physical training that Shoto would get sick or pass out.
Enji was a shitty father. He has a long ass road to continue walking if he ever wants redemption. The fact he didn't physically hit Touya doesn’t mean that Enji didn’t abuse his son and it doesn’t make Touya any less of a victim.
* End TodoFam Rant*
On a slightly lighter note, I also like all the information with Hawks’ past and all the parallels we’re seeing develop!
I’ve rambled briefly about this in other places the Huwumi discord but I want to expound upon this a bit more here.
I feel like Touya/ Dabi and Keigo/ Hawks are meant to be parallels to one another.
Back to back, we had proper name claims by these two characters. We had Dabi reveal his true identity as Todoroki Touya and then we have Hawks choosing to abandon his hero name to instead step up to fight as Takami Keigo.
I feel like “Dabi” was always a mask, of sorts. Dabi is typically pretty calm, cool, composed with the occasional bites of snark and cruelty. Meanwhile, we see Touya emoting and moving in a manner more akin to himself as a child, dancing about in manic delight over revealing his true identity and intentions. The pair of them are two drastically different people when you stop and look at it. “Dabi” was the mask he wore to gain ground to enact his revenge, and now that he is there? Now Touya can burn everything tethered to it down to ground.
Meanwhile, we have "Hawks” as he was forced to become as per the Hero Public Safety Commission. We had it revealed quite a while back that Hawks was a man of many faces, jumping from laid-back and chill to serious and focused quite frequently. “Hawks” is the presentation for the public and the Commission, groomed to be the perfect little canary in the mine that was Pro Heroics. The reveal of his true heritage, however, is not the killing blow Touya wanted it to be. Instead, it allows Keigo, the one who wanted to be a Hero to help people, the chance to truly dedicate himself to that. In being freed from the cage of “Hawks”, he is given the change to really soar as Keigo.
Now, I feel that “Dabi” and “Hawks” are most certainly parts of Touya and Keigo as well, respectively. Even though those titles were masks, they were masks made from parts of the men who wear them. I think what we’ll see going forward is the true elements of those masks bleeding back into the whole, and seeing the truest forms of each character.
For better or for worse.

Could I request a fic where Izuku has gotten a bit chubby and feels self-conscious but Shouto absolutely loves how adorable he looks?
(Of course! I hope I do this request justice! :)
Disclaimer: As it is implied that Izuku has body dysmorphia in this, I want to make it obvious that his experience is not representative of everyone with the condition. Don't come for me please.)
Izuku hated this.
His entire life, hero society had taught him that heroes were meant to have a certain “look”.
Everywhere he went, there were advertisements plastered to billboards, to websites, to commercials.
How to look as alluring as Midnight!
Become as hot as Endeavour using these five easy steps!
Ten reasons why All Might’s physique is the perfect body type!
Female heroes had to be “sexy”. Male heroes had to be “ripped”.
It was bullshit.
Sure, Izuku worked out; he was fit, he could carry over double his own body weight, but he didn't look like a hero should. He was small, bulky and no matter how hard he trained, his thighs still rubbed together when he walked, his cheeks were still chubby and there was still a layer of fat covering his abs.
Izuku rolled over on his bed, hugging his pillow close to his body, hoping the pressure would squish his stomach. He curled in on himself and groaned with frustration.
He wanted to be the new number one hero, so it was important that he was able to look like All Might. After all, Izuku had to be perfect!
Shaking his head, Izuku thought back to a few weeks ago, when he had told All Might about this and asked him how he had maintained his physique whilst in his prime - back before he shifted between forms. He remembered the way his teacher had sighed heavily and slouched in his seat.
‘My boy, did you really think I looked like that my entire hero career?’
When Izuku nodded, confused, All Might reached out two bony hands and placed them on Izuku’s shoulders. ‘It’s impossible to look like this-’ He briefly transformed into his muscular form for a moment, ‘-all the time.'
'But… But you always looked like that in videos and photographs?'
'Editing has been a thing since before quirks came about.' All Might shrugged. 'My only broadcasted fight that was completely unedited was when I fought All for One at Kamino.'
Izuku had stared at him, astounded. He didn’t know what to think. His entire life… How?
His mentor sensed his distress. 'I'd have been constantly performing hero work with a body fat percentage that just wasn't healthy for our line of work.'
'All Might…'
'To save others and gain full control of One for All, you need to get stronger. Listen to me, young Midoriya. I know I encourage you to smile and be the presence that makes others feel at ease, but in terms of your actual body? It doesn't matter what you look like, what matters is whether your body is capable of saving others or not.'
If it didn't matter, then why did All Might consent to having his physique edited in the first place?
Izuku fumbled around to look for his phone, still clutching his pillow. When his hand landed on the device, he brought it to his face - tucking the pillow under his chin to see better - and started searching the hero forums for pictures of All Might.
The longer he looked, the worse he felt, but he couldn’t stop.
Twenty minutes into his scrolling, Izuku just wanted to bury himself under his covers and disappear. He reached down and pinched his stomach fat, his throat closing up as his eyes watered.
Disgusting. Fat. Weak-
'Izuku?' Someone spoke, knocking softly on his door.
Izuku startled and turned towards the sound, breathing heavily.
'Shoto-kun?' He called, silently thanking his voice for not breaking. 'The door's unlocked.'
He turned away, threw his phone across the bed and hid his face in his pillow as his boyfriend quietly opened the door and entered. Izuku heard the faint sound of footsteps approaching, before the weight on the bed suddenly shifted. After that, the movement stopped completely and they remained in silence for several moments.
When curiosity finally outweighed his need to hide, Izuku peeked one eye out from behind his pillow to find Shoto laid on his side, regarding him with concern.
'Do you want to talk about it?' His boyfriend began quietly, eyes so soft that Izuku considered hiding his face again.
'How did you know I was upset?' He asked, voice slightly muffled.
'Secret boyfriend powers.' When Izuku raised an unimpressed eyebrow at him, Shoto huffed. 'You were ignoring my messages despite being online.'
'Stalker.' Izuku's lip curled upwards slightly when his partner snorted.
'Don't try to change the subject.'
His smile vanished.
'I'm ugly.' Izuku spoke in a low voice. 'I know All Might told me to focus on my strength and not my looks, but I just feel so disgusting.'
'Why?' Shoto asked after a moment. He always did this when Izuku was feeling down. He never dismissed his negative thoughts. Instead, he listened patiently and asked questions until he understood.
'My body. I need to be tall and muscular, but instead I'm this.' He threw aside the pillow, pulled up his baggy shirt and gestured to his chubby stomach. He then lifted his leg to show Shoto his wide thighs, covered in stretch marks, before flopping back down. 'Heroes aren't supposed to look like this.'
'What are heroes supposed to look like then?' Shoto furrowed his eyebrows.
‘Like All Might!' Izuku felt his eyes water and he gripped the bed covers tightly. ‘Heroes are the kind of people you look at and immediately have faith in. When people look at me though, they don’t see that.'
'There's no "look" that makes someone a good hero.’ Shoto reached out and placed his hand over Izuku's clenched one. ‘I mean, look at Aizawa-Sensei - he doesn’t look like what you’re describing, yet he’s one of the best heroes out there - then look at my old man. He’s tall, muscular and people have faith in him, but that doesn’t mean he’s an example of what makes a great hero.'
Izuku winced.
‘Shoto-kun… I didn’t mean-’
‘I know you didn’t.’ Shoto gave him a small smile as his thumb traced Izuku’s knuckle gently. ‘What I’m just trying to say is that it doesn’t matter what you look like. Midoriya Izuku will always be a hero. You will always be my hero.’
Izuku’s lip wobbled as tears started to run down his face, dampening the covers. Shoto shuffled forwards and reached out a tentative hand. ‘Can I?’
When Izuku nodded, squeezing his eyes shut, he felt his partner’s warm hand land on his stomach. He gasped and quickly looked down to find Shoto caressing him lovingly. Several questions on his lips, he gazed up at him.
Shoto leaned forward so their faces were inches apart and closed his eyes softly. 'I know whatever I say won't change the way you feel about yourself right now, but I need you to know that I think you're perfect. You may think you’re ugly, but I have to disagree. You have the body of a true hero.'
Izuku watched as he opened his eyes again, almost desperate. ‘Please, Izuku. Let me show you.’
Show me? Izuku had no idea what to make of such a vague request. Every time he even thought about his body, he just wanted to cry. What was Shoto going to do? Everything felt so uncertain.
He exhaled shakily and looked into dichromatic eyes, forcing himself to remember. I trust him.
‘O- Okay.’ He whispered, focusing only on the way Shoto’s eyes crinkled slightly when he smiled.
His boyfriend then sat up and gently rolled Izuku over so that he was on his back before moving to straddle him. Izuku’s eyes widened in surprise when Shoto leaned over him and held his face in his hands.
‘Gorgeous.’ His partner whispered, before pressing a kiss to his lips. Izuku gasped, but as soon as it started, Shoto was suddenly moving away from his mouth, brushing the corner of his lips before peppering his cheeks with kisses, not caring about the stained tear tracks.
Izuku reached up to cover Shoto’s hands with his own as his body came to terms with the feeling.
‘Shoto...’
‘I love holding you like this.’ His boyfriend murmured against his freckles, before making his way down his jaw. ‘Your face fits in my hands perfectly.’
Izuku whimpered. So many thoughts were going through his mind, yet with every negative thought, there was Shoto saying something comforting; with every feeling of self-doubt, there was a press of lips against his skin. It was comforting but so overwhelming.
Warm fingers suddenly moved down and lifted up his shirt, exposing his torso and Izuku’s eyes widened.
‘No, don’t.’ He reached down and gripped Shoto’s hand. ‘I know you’re just trying make me feel better but-’
‘Izuku, I’m doing this because I want to. I love you and I want to show you that I love every part of you.’ His boyfriend smiled sadly. ‘If you want to stop because you’re uncomfortable, I will, but if you’re just trying to be considerate then please don’t. Let me hold you.’
Izuku said nothing, but his grip on Shoto’s hand slackened in a silent confirmation and Shoto understood. His partner slowly lowered his head to press several kisses to his stomach. ‘You’re not ugly or disgusting. You're beautiful.'
Shoto shuffled down and tenderly spread Izuku's legs so he could settle between them. He then wrapped his arms around his waist and snuggled into his stomach.
'I love your body so much. So soft and comforting. You make me feel safe, Izu.'
Tears streamed down Izuku's face as he moved to cradle Shoto's head, gently massaging his scalp.
'I do?' He whispered, eyes fluttering shut.
'I promise. I could spend forever like this.’
Izuku let out a sob as Shoto nuzzled his cheek against his abdomen.
Self-love isn't instantaneous, Izuku knew that. It’s a journey, but he didn't mind venturing down it if it meant he could understand the love Shoto felt for him.
