I think the rtc community really needs to talk about the themes & messaging of rtc more like HUH??? WHYS THAT SO SLEPT ON???
Like after I watched it with my parents we were just talking about the message & themeing for like an hour and. It really makes me think a lot.
I'm serious. It's a nice thing to keep in mind & depending on how you interpret it, it can genuinely bring a little more hope into how you think about things. What I mean is–
Is how we don't know what's going to happen in life. We can't predict anything. That was the entire point of the Cyclone — nobody knew it was going to happen. You've gotta appreciate what you have while you have it. Even if you've had a lot of bad things happen, and it seems like it's just getting worse? You don't know that for sure!! You can't predict what's going to happen in the future. Maybe something good CAN happen. There's no shame in being happy where you are right now. There is so much to be said about how easy it is to go through the motions of life without taking a moment to appreciate what's around you. life certainly can be wonderful, you just have to take a look around.
It's a good message to keep in mind. :]
I may not have been into the Uranium Teen Scream Trilogy for very long(the hyperfix has been going strong for about 3-4 months now🫡), but I absolutely love the themeing & messaging and how it's clicked with so many people from its rather recent uprise in popularity. There are like. Whole entire articles about WHY it's clicked & gained more traction as of recent years. It's awesome

‘One look at you, my whole life falls in line...
I prayed for you, before I called you mine...
Oh I, can’t believe it’s true, sometimes...
Oh I, can’t believe it’s true.’
The Suite Impériale at the Ritz, Paris, France
Riley’s P.O.V.
As soon as the door closed behind us, the lock clicked into place leaving the King's guardsmen outside in the hall to stand on guard for their King. Not wasting any time, Liam wrapped his powerful arms around my waist, snugly pulling me flush to his hard body. Tilting my head up, his lips crash with mine as he kissed me, softly at first, then more urgently. My hands moved to his hair, to his broad shoulders, to his hips, pulling him even closer. His fingers danced across my skin, and I shivered.
His kisses leave my lips and travel down the column of my neck, and across my collarbone. My eyes flutter closed as his lips and tongue and teeth explore my skin. I'm lost in the sensation, his touch.
His masculine scent envelopes me ... and possesses me.
I run my hands up under his shirt, feeling his taut, chiseled physique.
He pulled away and gazed down at me. I look up and meet his gaze. He smiles.
"What?" I coyly simpered.
"You're just so beautiful," he says, his voice low and husky.
I can't help but blush.
"I want you," he says. "More than anything."
"Then take me," I reply, lasciviously.
I feel his fingers reaching for the zipper on the back of my dress. He slowly slides it down, then slips the straps off of my shoulders, my dress pooled around my feet. He looks down at my breasts, his eyes dark with desire. Watching me intently.
"What?” I respond with a soft purr.
"I have waited so long ... fantasized about ... making love to you as my fiancé. And now, you are finally mine.”
My breath hitched at his intensity.
"You're so gorgeous," he continued. "Every inch of you."
He took my hand leading me towards the bed.
He laid me on the bed gently and kissed me deeply, his hands roaming my body. He moved his lips down to my breasts, taking a nipple in his mouth. I gasp as his tongue swirls around the sensitive bud. He moved to the other breast, and continues to suck and lick, making me moan.
He moved lower, kissing and licking my stomach, then lower, until his teeth tugged my lace thong down between my legs and off. Teasing me more, he made his way back up the inside of my thighs, licking and marking my skin, until I'm writhing beneath him. His large hands spread my thighs, my core exposed to his attention. He brings me to the edge, as his lips and tongue circle and suck my core as it spasms in ecstasy. Moving back up, he trails a featherlight touch with his hand back up my body to my neck, gently palming my throat. Kissing me deeply, he pulled back and rolled onto his back, pulling me on top of him.
"I need to watch you, love."
Taking his cue, I straddled him and slowly sank down onto him. He groaned deeply as he filled me, his hands gripped my hips tightly and I can't help but moan, my back arching backward in pleasure.
Thrusting into me, he filled me over and over again.
"Fuck, Riley," he groaned.
He reached up and cupped my breasts in his hands, teasing and squeezing my nipples. The sensations making me gasp.
"Liam..." I cry out.
"Come for me," he says, his voice strained but commanding.
"I... I'm going to come," I gasp.
"Yes, Riley, come for me," he repeats.
His words send me over the edge. My body trembled as the sensation crashed over me. He continud to thrust, and then his body tensed as he fell over the edge with a deep groan.
We lie there, our bodies entwined, after I lift up to lay down beside him. Liam wrapped his arms around me and held me close.
"I love you," he whispered, kissing my temple.
"I love you, too."
He kissed the top of my head. "Marry me," he pleads.
I laugh. "I already said yes, silly."
"I know, but I want to hear you say it again," he grinned.
I sit up and look at him. "Liam, I will marry you. I can't wait to be your wife."
He grins. "Good."
He pulls me down back into his arms, enveloping me as we both fall asleep, content and happy.
I am the luckiest girl in the world.
Cordonian Royal Palace
"Hello, Madeleine. What a surprise," Leo said, his voice laced with sarcasm. He watched her quickly step toward him.
"Leo," she said curtly, her tone cold and distant. "I didn't expect to see you here."
"Obviously," he said, matching her icy tone.
"I was looking for Liam," she declared. "Do you know where he is?"
"Why are you looking for my brother?"
"It's none of your business, Leo."
"Actually, it is," he retorted, his eyes narrowing. "Anything that affects my brother's reign is my business."
"This has nothing to do with his reign," she countered, her frustration mounting.
"Then why are you looking for him?"
"I told you, it's none of your business," she snarled, her fists clenching at her sides.
"Maybe not," he said calmly, crossing his arms, blocking her path with his muscled and toned tall frame. "But if it has something to do with the Cordonian monarchy, then I have a right to know."
"I am part of the Cordonian monarchy," she spat. "So, unless you want to get on my bad side, I suggest you stop asking questions and just tell me where Liam is."
"Liam is in Italy, with his fiancé."
Madeleine's eyes widened.
"Fiancé?"
"Yes," he replied, a smirk tugging at his lips at her shocked expression. "Liam is engaged."
"To whom?" she demanded, her heart pounding in her chest.
"The same woman who was the front-runner for the crown during his social season," he replied, enjoying watching the shock and anger flash across her face.
"That bitch!" Madeleine hissed, her jaw clenched.
"Now, now, Madeleine," he taunted, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "That's no way to speak about the future Queen of Cordonia."
"She will never be the Queen of Cordonia," she growled, her body trembling with rage.
"Well, I suppose that's up to Liam," he said, the smirk still playing on his lips.
"I'm the Queen of Cordonia," she snapped. "And I will not allow some commoner to steal the throne from me."
"That's not really up to you," he said, his gaze challenging her. "If I remember correctly... he tossed your ass out of his life and Cordonia."
"Don't test me, Leo," she sparred, her voice dangerously low. "You will not like the results."
"Is that a threat, Madeleine?"
"No, it's a promise," she said, her eyes burning with anger.
"Whatever," he replied curtly, waving his hand dismissively. "You're wasting your time here. Liam is gone, and you're not going to find him. He's out of your reach."
"I will not give up," she said, her chin lifting defiantly.
"Then you're a fool," he said, his tone bored. "You can't compete with Riley. She has everything you don't."
"And what is that exactly?"
"She has his heart, for starters," he said, his gaze cold and unwavering.
"Love is for fools," she sneered.
"May..be," he said, his expression darkening. "But that's the one thing you'll never have. And you'll never be able to take it from Riley."
"I'll take everything else," she snorted, her voice filled with venom.
The Suite Impériale at the Ritz, Paris, France
Liam's naked form was a sight to behold. His broad shoulders, muscular back, and toned arms and thighs were a testament to his strength and power.
Riley couldn't help but stare as he walked towards the bathroom, his ass tight and toned. Her eyes followed him as he disappeared behind the bathroom door, the sound of the shower starting moments later.
She sat up in bed, her body tingling with desire. She couldn't believe how lucky she was to have him as her husband to be, and she was thankful for the many blessings she had been given so far.
As she heard the shower turn on, she slipped out of bed and crept into the bathroom, her body naked and ready. She pushed open the shower door and stepped inside, her eyes fixed on Liam's backside.
He turned, a surprised, but delighted look on his face.
"Riley..."
She moved towards him and into the shower, wrapping her arms around his waist and kissing his wet and soapy chest.
"I couldn't wait," she whispered.
He chuckled, his hands running over her wet skin.
"I'm glad you didn't," he replied, his voice husky.
He pulled her close, his lips finding hers. The water ran down their bodies, the steam rising around them. They kissed passionately, their bodies pressed together.
Riley moaned as Liam's hands moved over her breasts, her nipples hardening beneath his touch.
Through the water that was streaming down her face Riley kissed her way down his neck. She felt him growing hard against her stomach, and she reached down to wrap her fingers around his length.
"Fuck, Riley..." he groaned, his fingers digging into her ass.
She stroked him, his length thick and hard in her hand. She knew she could make him come with her hand, but she wanted more.
"Liam," she said, looking up at him coquettishly.
Riley slowly slid down to her knees, shamelessly, down the rippling planes of his stomach as her hands felt his muscled thighs. She licked a stripe along his length, eliciting a low growl from Liam.
"Fuck, Riley... that feels so good," he said, his voice low and husky as he slid past her lips.
* Le Café Petit Gourmand
Bartie and William looked through the window of the café, their mouths watering at the sight of the pastries and sweets on display.
"Are you guys hungry?" Maxwell asked.
"Yes!" they both exclaimed.
Maxwell laughed and led them inside. The three of them walked up to the counter, and the boys each picked out a treat.
"Mmm," William hummed, taking a bite of his pastry.
"This is so good," Bartie said, licking icing off his fingers.
Drake, Maxwell and Bastien all smiled at the boys' enjoyment.
"So, where are we headed next?" Drake asked, taking a sip of his coffee.
"We should visit the Eiffel tower," Maxwell replied. "It's the best view of the city."
"Okay," Drake said. "But, we need to get back to the hotel in a few hours." Drake looked at Bastien for confirmation.
"His Majesty, wanted the Royal jet ready for 5 p.m. to return to Cordonia," Bastien responded.
"See, we have time," Maxwell replied.
After finishing their pastries and coffee, the group headed towards the Eiffel tower.
The Eiffel Tower was a majestic sight, towering over the city and dominating the skyline. It was a popular tourist attraction, and the lines were long, but Bastien arranged a few shortcuts, and the boys made it to the top without waiting in line for too long.
The view was breathtaking, and the boys stood at the railing, looking out over the city.
"Wow," Bartie breathed.
"It's beautiful," William agreed.
"I wish my mother and Bertrand were here," Bartie said, a little wistful.
"I'm sure they're having a good time," Maxwell replied. "But, we'll tell them about it when we get back."
"Speaking of time, we should head back to the hotel," Drake said.
They rode the elevator back down and made their way back to the hotel.
Bastien's phone beeped as he received a text.
"His Majesty has instructed me to return William to his suite," Bastien announced.
"Alright, see you soon, kid," Drake said.
"Bye, Uncle Drake," William replied, giving him a hug.
"See you on the jet," Maxwell said, ruffling his hair.
Bartie waved as they headed for the elevator.
William and Bastien rode the elevator to the presidential suite. Bastien escorted him to his door, knocking once.
Damien smiled as he held the door open for the young prince.
"Hi, Damien," William said.
"Prince William," Damien bowed slightly. "I'm glad to see you returned safely."
"I had fun," William replied, smiling.
"But I am ready to go home now."
Damen smiled watching William run crashing into Liam, as he held his son in his arms.
'I get to love you
It's the best thing that I'll ever do
I get to love you
It's a promise I'm making to you'

Crush: A Bad Romance One-Shot
Series: Bad Romance Continues
Original Series: Bad Romance
Fandom: The Royal Romance/The Royal Heir
Pairing for this chapter: Riley x Max, Riley x Drake, Riley x Liam with tiny hints of Liam x Max
Rating: Fluffy
Warnings for this chapter:  None
Word Count: 3,274
Thanks to @kyra75 for this ask for the "secret admirer" prompt for the @choicesprompts 2024 Flufftober event. This is my late submission.
A/N: This is a prequel because we already know what happens during Bad Romance so it doesn't fit there. I could have placed it after but I would have had to either bring in a new person which I didn't want to do or go the predictable route of it turning out to be the person's partner all along. Instead, I decided to place it before the events of Bad Romance, and here's why: I've written next to nothing about Riley's first few months in Cordonia but Bad Romance does state that Liam had to work his butt off to pry Riley's attention away from Max during that time. In fact, Liam mentions it often because he's still salty about it. Max mentions it too because he did eventually get dumped for Liam. I thought this was a perfect place to show some of that. I know it's a little angsty, but I hope it's got enough fluff to satisfy the requirement.
To reiterate: This takes place in the first month of Riley being in Cordonia, while she is sleeping with Max, Liam is trying to change that and Drake is trying to pretend he doesn't like her like that.
My other stuff: Master List.
For the life of me, I cannot remember if someone sent me this image or if I stumbled across it myself. It's been in my save folder for awhile. I'd like to give proper credit, so if you sent it to me, speak up!
Tumblr media
Riley entered her room and stopped to smell the roses. The two dozen red roses to be exact. They had been delivered to her room earlier. She closed her eyes as the sweet floral scent washed over her.
The smell was sublime.
She opened her eyes to admire the blood red petals. Her fingers gently stroked a lush bloom, her expression contemplative as her mind whirled.
She turned her head to observe the man who had entered the room with her. “You’re sure they’re not from you?”
“Yes, Riley, I’m sure,” Max admittedly a little reluctantly.
“Any ideas who they might be from?”
He shrugged dismissively. “Could be anyone, really. You have many admirers at court. I’m not surprised one of them decided to shoot his shot.” Hana’s face flashed before his eyes. “Or hers.”
She fluttered her lashes at him. “Does that bother you?”
Max shook his head, and then gave her that boyish grin that always made her heart flutter. “How can I blame them? You’re the total package, babe.”
“You sweet talker.” Riley grinned at him as she strode across the room to pinch his cheeks.
Despite the fact that they were sleeping together, the simple sign of affection from her caused heat to flame across his face. He studied the toe of his shoe as he told her, “You deserve flowers. I should have thought to send you some.”
“Hey,” she put a finger under his chin and lifted his head. “The roses are lovely, but you do sweet things for me all the time. I’m very happy with our little…. Arrangement.”
His face lit up. “Yeah?”
“Yeah.” She leaned forward and brushed her lips softly across his. “We’re staying in tonight, right?”
They were in between royal events for the next week and while eating in the main dining hall was always an option, Max had suggested room service and a movie marathon in her room instead.
Riley had agreed because frankly, she was sick of Madeleine’s shit. Eating with all the bitchy divas of the nobility was not her idea of fun. Drake avoided her like the plague ever since their encounter on the plane ride over, and Liam rarely made appearances in the public dining hall in between official royal events.
Not that she was interested in him. Their night in New York aside, she knew he would never choose a waitress to be queen. He couldn’t. So, she had found other diversions.
She could certainly do a lot worse than Maxwell Beaumont.
“Right,” Max agreed, as a shiver ran down his spine at her touch. “I had the kitchen make your favorite dinner.”
“See?” she purred. “That’s what I mean about how thoughtful you are.”
“Let’s meet back here at dinnertime, okay?” He stepped away from her and headed for the door.
“Where are you going?”
“You’ll see.” He gave her a mischievous grin as he exited the room.
“Okay then.” With a furrowed brow, she returned her attention to the roses. After a brief moment of consideration, her decision was made.
She might not know why Max was acting weird all of a sudden, but she had enough time before dinner to do a little investigation into her secret admirer.
****
“I’m coming!” Drake yelled in irritation.
Who the fuck was knocking on his door in the middle of the afternoon on his day off?
“Can’t get any peace and quiet ever.” He muttered under his breath as he yanked the door open. “What?”
His eyes widened with a sharp intake of breath. “Riley! What are you doing here?” His eyes darted frantically up and down the hallway. This girl was a scandal waiting to happen.
“Was it you?”
“Was what me?”
“The flowers. Were they from you?” Her gaze bore into him with laser intensity.
His forehead creased as he tried to make sense of the conversation. “Flowers?”
Her eyes scanned his face, then she shook her head. “Of course not.”
His brain finally caught up. “Someone sent you flowers?”
“Isn’t that what I just said?”
“Weren’t they from your boyfriend?”
Was that a note of bitterness she detected? She smiled from ear to ear as her body swayed slightly back and forth. “What boyfriend would that be?”
His face fixed in a scowl, he grunted, “Max.”
She bit into her lower lip as she leaned forward and ran a hand up his arm. “Are you jealous of Max?”
His arms crossed defensively over his chest as he took a step back. “No!”
“Sure, you’re not. But someone sent me two dozen roses, and it wasn’t Max. Any ideas who it could have been?”
Drake blew out a resigned sigh. Of fucking course he knew who it was. Who else would it be? But he wasn’t telling her that.
While he wasn’t going to stand in Liam’s way, he sure as hell wasn’t going to help him. Instead, he shrugged with what he hoped was nonchalance as he shook his head. “Nope.”
“Okay. Bye then.” She spun on her heel and started back down the hallway.
“Riley, wait!” He stumbled out the door into the hallway, ready to sprint after her.
She stopped and turned back with arched eyebrows. “Yes?”
“I…” All the reasons he should not and could not pursue this woman poured through his mind as he stood frozen in the middle of the corridor.
“Well?”
He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. “Never mind. It’s nothing.”
“Hm. Well, if it’s ever something, you know where my room is.” She wiggled her fingers at him before spinning to leave again.
He watched her go as frustration and regret danced through his chest.
****
Riley questioned several guards and a couple of butlers, but no one knew anything.
She was on her way back to her room when she bumped right into Liam. She found herself tangled in his embrace, laughter rumbling through him as he caught her. “Whoa there! Where’s the fire?”
“Liam!” She made no move to extract herself from his arms. Instead, she smiled up at him. “Sorry. I wasn’t paying attention to where I was walking.”
“I see that!” He stared down at her with a sappy grin for several long seconds before remembering himself. He cleared his throat as he stepped away from her. “Were you on your way to the dining hall?”
“No, my room, actually.”
“I hope everything is okay.”
She gave him a bright smile as she leaned in and lowered her voice conspiratorially. “Everything is fine. I just can’t take another dinner with those fucking harpies.”
Liam threw his head back and laughed. Yes, it was a scandalous remark, but he found her honesty refreshing. He found everything about her refreshing, not to mention alluring. He moved closer to her to whisper, “Why do you think I never eat in the public dining hall?”
It was her turn to laugh. “Oh, my! What an unprincely thing to say!”
“You seem to bring out that side of me.” His tone suddenly serious, he blurted, “Have dinner with me tonight? In my private dining room?”
“I’d love to, but I already have plans for tonight.”
“Oh. I thought you said you were having dinner in your roo—”
“Yes, we are.”
His shoulders slumped. “I see.”
“Tomorrow?”
His head snapped up. “You’ll have dinner with me tomorrow?”
“Sure. Why not?”
“That’s…. not exactly the response I was hoping for—”
“I mean, if you’d rather not—”
“No! No… I mean yes! I mean… I definitely want to have dinner with you, Riley. Tomorrow night it is.”
“Great. Just text me the time.”
He immediately whipped out his phone and sent her a text.
She rewarded him with a seductive smirk. “That was quick.”
“He who hesitates is lost.”
“I would have said you snooze, you lose. But that works too.”
“I don’t intend to lose.”
“Lose what?”
His voice was unusually low and quiet as he returned the phone to his pocket. “You, Riley.”
Riley Brooks was seldom taken aback by anything a man said, but that did the trick. “What?”
“Surely you haven’t forgotten our night in New York so easily.”
“Of course, not. I just didn’t think—”
“Did you like the roses? They’re from my mother’s garden.”
“That was you?”
“Yes.”
“But…why?”
“Why?” He looked at her with his mouth agape. Glancing around quickly to ensure they were still alone in the hallway; he reached for her and yanked her body to his. Lowering his lips to her ear, he murmured, “I know you think New York was just about sex and that a prince would never marry a waitress, but you’re wrong, Riley. Dead wrong. On both counts.”
She pulled back to search his onyx eyes with her emerald ones. She couldn’t help the skepticism in her voice. “Really?”
“Yes, really! What do I have to do to convince you of that?”
“I don’t know, Liam. But it’s going to take more than a few roses.”
Gifts were not about to win her over. Sure, she had come from poverty, but he hadn’t. Material things were easy for him to come by and easy for him to part with. Simply spending money on her only convinced her that he wanted to sleep with her.
While sex with the smoking hot prince was something she was more than willing to engage in, she refused to let her heart get involved when she already knew disappointment was waiting at the end.
No matter what he said, he was never going to marry her. He wasn’t in love with her. He was in lust with her and that was something she was familiar with, something she could roll with. But she would not be tricked into letting her feelings get involved.
If he expected her to fall in love, he was going to have to invest a lot more than just money. That was too easy. She refused to be merely one more victim in the trail of broken hearts he’d left behind him.
Liam watched her walk away with a myriad of emotions crashing through him. If she wanted him to work harder to get her attention, he would do that. He knew she liked him. The night in New York had proven that. But since her arrival in Cordonia, she had frozen him out. Were her plans tonight with Max? What the fuck did she see in Max that she didn’t see in him? It was frustrating, galling, and, if he were being honest with himself, a little thrilling. He did love a good challenge.
***
Riley let herself back into her room to a stupendous surprise. The two dozen red roses still graced the console table near the entry, but every other available surface, save the bed, was now covered in vases brimming with all manner of blue flowers. Deep blue roses, baby blue hydrangeas, several shades of carnations, and blue and white morning glories, among others, were spread across the tops of the dresser, the end tables, and the vanity.
She gasped as she turned circles, taking it all in. “Max! What is this?”
“Ah…” pink flamed across his cheeks. “I know red roses are romantic and all, but I also know blue is your favorite color, so I took a chance that you might like them.”
“Like them? Max, I love them! But you didn’t have to do all this just because Liam sent me flowers.”
“It was Liam?” His heart sank.
He felt pretty confident about his chances of competing against most of the men at court. But Liam was another story entirely. Of course, she would want Liam. Hell, he wanted Liam, so he certainly couldn’t blame her.
Maybe now was the time to tell her that his feelings for her were real. That it was more than just fun and games for him. “Riley, I—”
There was a knock on the door.
“Hold that thought,” she told him as she strode across the room to answer it.
She pulled the door open to find Drake standing in the hallway. Her face lit up with surprised delight. “Hey, handsome! Did you finally decide on something?”
“I…ah... wanted to talk—” his words cut off mid-sentence as Max appeared in the doorway behind her. A storm raged across his face. “You know what? Never mind. I shouldn’t have—”
“Drake? What are you doing here?”
All three heads turned toward the new voice.
Drake’s brain spun frantically, trying to find a reasonable explanation for his presence. “Ah, I noticed they were missing from the dining hall and wanted to make sure everything was okay.”
Liam’s shoulders relaxed. He had asked Drake to keep an eye on her for him. To personally ensure her safety.
“What are you doing here?” Riley directed her question to Liam.
“I needed to change the time of our date tomorrow night.”
Max stiffened. Drake inspected the casing around the doorframe.
“You couldn’t have texted me that?”
“I could have…” that sparkle that she remembered from New York was back in his eyes. “But I wanted to see you in person.”
“Hm.” She smiled as her finger tapped her lips. “Well, since you’re both here, would you like to come in and join us? We were going to have dinner sent up and have a movie marathon.”
Drake looked skeptically from her to Liam to Max. “I don’t know if we should—”
“I’d love to!” Liam swept into the room with satisfaction radiating from every pore of his body. He pushed past a dismayed Max.
That satisfaction evaporated as he took in the scene in front of him. “That’s a lot of blue flowers.”
Max perked up as his arm went around Riley’s shoulder. “Blue is her favorite color, so I thought she might like some to offset all that red.”
“Yes, I get it. You had to go big after copying my idea.”
“I—” Max’s reply was cut off by Riley’s hand on his chest. “No fighting, boys. We’re going to watch movies and have fun tonight.” Turning back toward Drake, she motioned for him to come in. “Are you going to stand in the hallway or are you going to get in here and help me make sure these two behave?”
Drake hesitated only a second or two.
What could it hurt?
He glanced around at the room full of flowers. Two dozen of Cordonia’s finest red roses, straight from the crown’s own garden shimmered in the waning daylight. At least a dozen vases of flowers turned the room into a shimmering ocean of blue. The younger son of one of Cordonia’s noblest houses and the crown prince himself at a standoff over her attentions, and still she wanted him there. That meant something, right?
Not that he was interested in her. If Liam got his way, and Liam usually did, she was going to be the next queen and his best friend’s wife. Both of those things put her firmly off limits to him, no matter how much she inflamed his desires, haunted his dreams, and bedeviled his waking hours.
Still. What could it hurt to watch a couple of movies with her and two of his oldest friends? It was really Liam and Max he was staying for. To make sure they didn’t fight over her too much. Yeah, that’s why he was staying.
Riley leaned over and whispered into Max’s ear. His scowl was replaced with a flushed face and a broad grin. He nodded as he pulled his phone from his pocket and started swiping. His eyes flicked up long enough to say, “Make yourselves comfortable. I’ll have the kitchen send up more food.”
Drake took the lounge chair next to the bed just as Riley climbed up and settled herself in the middle of the bed. She patted the space on either side of her. “Who wants to join me?”
Before Drake could react, Liam was in the closest spot and Max had hurled himself onto the bed, clambering over two sets of legs to claim the other side. With a disgruntled shake of his head, he thumped back into the chair.
This had been a bad idea.
But it hadn’t been a bad idea. His misgivings were soon put to rest as they all balanced their dinner plates on their laps and got completely and inexplicably sucked into Barbie.
Not a movie he would have picked, but as it turned out, it was not a kid’s movie at all. The existential angst, the clever humor, the insightfulness, and the adventure had him forgetting the awkwardness of the situation and laughing along with his friends at the onscreen antics. He was relaxed and actually enjoying his night off.
Max had pushed aside his insecurities about Liam, choosing to focus, instead, on the promises Riley had whispered in his ear about the rewards he’d receive later for being a good boy and playing nice with everyone. His eyes kept sliding sidewise to gauge her reactions to the movie. He wanted to share all of them with her…. every laugh, every gasp, every moment. Not just of the movie, he realized, but for the rest of his life.
His gaze flicked briefly to the man on her other side. He knew Liam was still an obstacle, but he had infinite amounts of patience and faith, deep in his heart, that everything would work out in the end.
Liam didn’t miss the sidelong glances Max was throwing at both him and Riley. He couldn’t say he was completely oblivious to Max’s charms, but he was nothing if not persistent.
She didn’t trust him yet. That was fine. He would prove to her that she could. She needed him to put in work, and he would do that. He had yet to set his mind to any task that he couldn’t master. He just needed to try harder, be smarter, and focus deeper. Winning her heart would be worth it. He knew to the very core of his being that they belonged together.
Long after the dishes had been cleared, and the night had deepened, Riley lay with her head on Liam’s shoulder, drifting off as the credits for the latest Ghostbusters movie rolled. Max was curled up against her on her other side, one arm slung over her waist as Liam’s fingers gently combed through her hair. The sound of Drake’s soft snoring drifted through the room.
She should probably wake everyone and tell them to go sleep in their own beds. That would be far more comfortable, especially for Drake, who was dozing in a chair. But the warmth emanating from the men on either side of her, combined with the softness of the bed and the darkness of the room, lulled her into a contented coziness that she was loathe to break.
The quiet hum of the air conditioning filled the room as the TV clicked off, sealing her decision as she let herself drift off to sleep surrounded by the sounds, scents, and warmth of the three men who had commanded all her attention for the last month.
For the moment, none of them were fighting each other or her. Their earlier laughter still rang in her ears. For tonight, things were peaceful, calm, and happy, and not a single one of them wanted to do anything to disrupt that.
Liam was the last one left awake. He kissed the top of her head and whispered, “Good night, Riley.” Before closing his eyes and slipping into a contented slumber of his own.

Hatchetfield High Yearbook Project Signups
Welcome to the signups for the Hatchetfield High Yearbook Project
Rules:
Individual Character artists will pick the name (or only last name) for their character if their character doesn’t have one, and writers will go along with it for their articles/interviews. (unless an actor or the Langs reveal the canon names of a previously unnamed character during the process of this project)
All art and writing must be original, not AI-generated or made by anyone else (commission, picrew, etc.)
All art and writing must be digital, it just looks more uniform. (If you need help digitalizing a traditional sketch, I can help with that!)
Each artist will draw the characters in their piece as they normally draw them, I will clarify which characters are which along with crediting each artist in captions below the photo)
No infighting, be respectful and agree to disagree in the discord server if an argument arises over fandom stuff. It’s not that big of a deal </3 (Note - If enough trouble is caused, you may be removed from the project and your piece may be replaced)
For now, the due date for all art and writing is March 20th. (Note: This is subject to change. If you are unable to submit your piece at the deadline, contact me, or one of the moderators if I am unreachable, as soon as possible)
A little bit about the Project:
It will be free, both to participate in and consume!
We'll have a discord server for project organization, with other general and fandom related channels for fun in the meantime.
When it is finished, I will roll it out as both a flipbook AND a slideshow, as the slide show will be of a higher/clearer quality than the flipbook program I use.
it will be modeled similarly to the Ride the Cyclone yearbook project, but without all the little info per character, as Hatchetfield High is a much bigger school than St. Cassian. There will still, however, be senior quotes!
For signature pages, everyone who participates will sign a transparent image with their name and/or a little quote/doodle, just like you would sign an actual yearbook in high school. Individual character artists will also sign a separate transparent image as their character, unless their character is an alumni, and I will arrange them on their own pages just like the signature pages of the Ride the Cyclone yearbook project linked above.
You may apply to be both an artist and a writer, but please tell me which you would prefer to be in the forms.
If you change your tumblr url while working on this project, please contact me so I can give you proper credit.
Artist Sign-Up Form
Writer Sign-Up Form
If you get in, I will DM you from this account on Saturday, January 6th, before midnight (CST timezone).

 Lythokis Keep, Lythokis, Cordonia
Carefully laying out the phyllo dough, Riley hummed a Christmas tune as she started to layer the ingredients for Baklava for Liam. The sweet honey drizzle and cinnamon made her mouth water. The smell of his favorite dessert would draw him into the kitchens quickly. Luckily, he was off to fell a talon tree with Leo, Drake and Alex, having left at the crack of dawn, not expected to return until later in the afternoon.
"Baklava?" 12-year-old Ellie asked, as she watched her mother gleefully preparing her father’s favorite sweet treat. Sitting on the stool next to her mother, Ellie sighed, “I love Baklava,” looking longingly at the sweet confection.
"Of course you do," Riley chuckled, nudging her shoulder. "I'll try to save you some," as Riley continued to sprinkle chopped pistachios onto the dish.
"Thanks, Mom!"
"I want to lick the bowl." Stefan said, jumping up and down.
"No way!" William cried. "You always get to lick the bowl, Steffie."
"Stefan, you can't eat it all," Riley said, looking down at her youngest. "This is your dad's and he's going to be hungry after felling that tree."
"But I love baklava," Stefan pouted, his eyes tearing up.
Riley looked over at him, seeing the tears in his eyes. She knew that look anywhere.
"Stefan, no..." she warned.
"Please?" He begged.
She shook her head, chuckling.
"Go ahead."
"Yessss!" Stefan cheered, leaping into the air.
Riley grinned and finished placing the top layer. She took the pan and placed it into the oven.
"So," she said, turning to look at her children. "What's on the agenda for today?"
"Auntie Livvie invited Micaela and I to go sledding," Ellie said.
"Oh really? Okay, before you go, please help your brothers with their skates.”
"Sure, Mom," Ellie nodded agreeably.
Riley took a sip of her coffee and walked away to get herself dressed for the winter chill, leaving the kids to their own devices.
"Alright, boys," Ellie said, walking over to them.
"We wanna go sledding!" William whined.
"I'll help you get your skates on," she said. "Then you can go sledding."
"Promise?"
“Yes, I promise."
❄️❄️❄️
"Alright, boys," Maxwell said, standing in the middle of the ice rink with Hana and Amalas, holding his nephews' hands. "Are you ready to learn how to skate?"
"Yes!" Stefan yelled.
"No!" William cried. "It's cold out here."
"You won't even notice once you get started," Hana said, kneeling next to him.
"Really?"
"Trust me."
"Alright," William said, nodding.
"Come on, you two," Riley said, taking their hands.
"Mom," Ellie said, grabbing Riley's hand.
"Hmm?"
"When is Daddy coming back?"
"In a few hours, sweetie," she replied, rubbing her arm. "He should be done by lunch time."
"Ok."
"Now," Riley said, standing on the ice and taking the twins' hands. "Let's go."
"Wait," Stefan said, stopping.
"What's wrong?"
"How do we stay up?"
"Don't worry," Hana said, sliding next to him and taking his hand. "We've got you."
"I'm scared."
"Just relax and don't think about it," Maxwell said.
"Just like when you're walking," Riley added.
"Just don't fall," Stefan nodded warily.
"Stefan," William groaned, rolling his eyes. "Don't say that."
"Why not?"
"You'll jinx us."
"How would I-"
"Hey," Maxwell said, crouching in front of them. "Look at me. Do you know who I am?"
"You're Uncle Maxwell," Stefan nodded.
"Do you know that I'm not going to let you get hurt? Or your mom or your Aunt Hana?"
"No."
"And you trust me, right?"
"Yeah."
"Then you have nothing to worry about," Maxwell said, winking at him.
"Okay."
"Good."
"I want to go with you, Auntie Hana!" Stefan said.
"Me too!" William cried.
"Ok, ok," Hana chuckled.
As the twins began to glde with Hana, Riley looked up at Maxwell and smirked.
"Race you."
"Oh, you're on, queen Riles," Maxwell said, smirking back.
They sped off across the ice, the kids squealing as they picked up speed. Amalas slid next to Hana, smirking.
"How much did you bet on this?"
"1000 euro," Hana smirked.
"Excellent."
Riley and Maxwell were neck and neck, their kids cheering from the sidelines.
"Last lap, Beaumont," Riley breathily laughed.
"Whatever helps you sleep at night, Ri," he responded cheekily.
Riley laughed and sped up. She passed him and he tried to speed up as well but instead lost his balance and fell on his face. Riley burst into giggles, falling onto the ice, dramatically, as well. The twins cheered, hugging their aunt tightly.
"You beat Uncle Maxwell!"
"I told you, Mom's the best!"
"Thank you, thank you," Riley chuckled, bowing.
...Meanwhile, Olivia was preparing Maxwell's sled as Ellie watched closely.
"So, it's a secret sled?" Ellie asked.  "What are you spraying on the bottom of the disk?
"This," Olivia said, holding up a can.
"What's that?"
"Graphite oil spray. It's not even for sale in the Capital. It's just something I had on hand."
"Nice," Ellie grinned.
"Now, we just spray it on the sled and ...voila."
"It's not gonna look too obvious, right?"
"Don't worry," Olivia said, placing a hand on her shoulder. "He won't know until he's already halfway down the hill.... and by then, it will be too late."
"Perfect," Ellie said, clapping her hands together.
"Now, we go over the plan again."
"Exactly, good thinking." Olivia nodded.
"And if it works, we get to win the bet with uncle Leo and uncle Drake? And they will have to be our personal butlers for a week?
"Yup."
"But Uncle Drake and Uncle Leo will hate us forever."
"Oh ... not forever," Olivia chuckled. "Just until the next competition. And they won't win that either. They will not be pleased."
"This is mean."
"It's a bit mean," Olivia cackled.
"But I still think it's a great idea."
"Good. Now, let's go over the plan again."
❄️❄️❄️
As Liam, Leo and Alex was returning to the keep, the sun was setting and snow was falling gently from the sky. Riley and the kids were standing on the balcony of the grand suite, waiting for their arrival.
"Look, boys," Riley said, pointing down the path. "There they are."
"Where?" Stefan asked.
"Right there."
"Daddy!" William yelled.
Liam looked up, waving to them. Riley and the kids waved back, the kids jumping up and down.
"Daddy, Daddy!" They shouted.
Liam walked noticeably faster, the other adults quickening their pace to keep up. He made it to the stairs, climbing them two steps at a time. Once he reached the top, the boys ran and leapt into his arms, hugging him tightly.
"Hi, Daddy," Stefan said.
"Hi, boys," Liam chuckled. "Have you been good?"
"Uh-huh."
"Yeah, Daddy."
"I'm so glad."
"Did you have fun, Dad?" Riley asked, leaning against the rail.
"I did," he said, nodding. "Leo almost fell off a tree, but other than that, we had a lot of fun."
"Uncle Leo almost fell?"
"Yeah."
"That's hilarious!"
"You're telling me."
"Come on, boys," Riley said. "Let's give your father a break and get him some hot chocolate."
"Hot chocolate!" They yelled, running down the hall.
"Ahhhh ... there is my beautiful bride." Liam placed a sweet kiss on her cheek as Riley wrapped her arms around his neck.
"I can't believe this will be our first year spending the holidays here since after our wedding ... and that was our first holiday as a married couple."
"What special traditions will you make this year, love." Liam wrapped his arms around her waist.
"I'm ready to make some new traditions with you."
"Oh yeah, I can't wait, love. So, what did you and the twins do while we were gone?" Liam asked.
"Went ice skating." Riley grinned.
"Oh really?"
"Maxwell taught the boys how to skate," Riley said. "He kept them occupied while Amalas, Hana and I had some girl time."
"Sounds like fun."
"It was. How was your time with the other men?"
"It was interesting," Liam chuckled. "Alex and Leo tried to make a tree fort, but Alex fell through the roof."
"Wow."
"Yeah."
"So," she said, stepping closer to him. "Did you bring home the prize?"
"We did," he nodded. "A 20 foot talon tree."
"Excellent."
"Mm-hm," he murmured, leaning forward and kissing her.
"Come on," Riley said, taking his hand and pulling him to the hall. "Let's get you warmed up. I have a surprise for you."
"Ooh, what is it?"
"If I tell you, it's not a surprise, your Majesty."
"Fair point," Liam chuckled, following her down the grand staircase.
Once they were in the kitchen, Liam's eyes landed on the counter.
"Is that...?"
"Baklava," Riley said matter of factly.
"Really?"
"Really," she nodded and smiled coyly. "Made it this morning. Our new holiday tradition: freshly baked, homemade baklava."
"Oh, baby, you are the best," Liam sighed.
"I know," Riley giggled.
"Mom!"
Riley turned and saw her sons walking into the room.
"Daddy, do you want to come sledding with us?" William asked.
"Can't," Liam said, picking up a slice of baklava. "I've got business to take care of."
"Oh, please," Riley said, looking up at him. "Come play with us."
"You don't have to convince me," he chuckled, popping another bite into his mouth.
"Yay! Come on, Daddy!"
"Ok, ok," Liam laughed.
They put their jackets and boots on and walked outside.
Olivia, Ellie, Micaela and Alex were standing on top of a snow hill planning the race, surrounded by lots of freshly fallen snow. Drake, Maxwell, Hana Delaney, were chatting and drinking Lythikos nog. Leo and Amalas met Liam, Riley, William and Stefan to take them to watch the race.
"Are you ready?" Olivia called, looking down the hill.
"Bring it!" Drake yelled.
"Oh, you're gonna get it!" Ellie shouted.
"Alright, let's start this," Maxwell said, clapping his hands.
"Who's racing?" Maxwell asked.
"Me, you, Auntie Laney, and Uncle Drake," Ellie said, hopping up and down.
"Oh," Maxwell said. "Then it's three against one."
"Yeah," Olivia smirked. "I'm rooting for my niece."
"Same here," Amalas chuckled.
"Oh, boy," Maxwell groaned.
"You've got this, Ellie!" Micaela cheered.
"We'll win this," Delaney said.
"Suurre, you will," Drake said.
"Oh, we will," Ellie countered, nodding.
Alex placed the circular discs in a line, 10 feet apart for Ellie, Maxwell, Drake, and Delaney.
Olivia and Ellie looked at each other, smirking.
"On your mark," Alex said, "Get set. Goooooo!"
They pushed their sleds down the hill, the cold air hitting their faces. Olivia looked over and saw Maxwell's sled was flying down the hill, far ahead of the others. She and Ellie looked at each other, laughing.
"He's gonna crash," Ellie said.
"He's not gonna stop," Olivia chuckled.
"You're right," she sighed. "He's gonna wipe out."
"Hopefully he'll learn his lesson."
"What lesson?"
"Never bet against us," Olivia smirked.
"Yeah," Ellie chuckled.
As they neared the bottom of the hill, Olivia saw Maxwell's sled skid off the side, sending him flying into the air.
Maxwell was having a blast, the speed at which he was barreling down the hill was exhilarating.
"Woo-hoo!" He yelled. "I'm flying!"
"Not for long!" Ellie laughed.
"Huh?"
Suddenly, Maxwell's sled flew off the side, sending him tumbling into a snowbank.
"Maxwell!" Riley cried out, running to him.
"Ouch," he groaned.
"What happened?" Liam asked.
"I don't know. My sled just shot off the hill."
"He's fine," Riley said. "I'm sure it's not the end of the world."
"Yeah," Maxwell nodded.
"Oh, man," Ellie chuckled, nudging Olivia. "Good thing they can't prove anything."
"I agree," Olivia whispered.
"You are a bad influence, Liv" Riley said, noticing their devious expressions
"Maybe."
"Alright," Drake said, stepping next to the snowbank. "Who wants a turn?"
"I do!" Ellie cried, leaping into the snow.
Liam stepped up and stopped his daughter from lifting the fast disc.
"Ellie, hold on a second," Liam said calmly.
"Why, Daddy?"
"Because that's not a toy, and it's dangerous."
"I can handle it," Ellie said.
"You need to be careful."
"I will be."
"No, Ellie. Just use the slower sled."
"But-"
"I won't tell you again."
"Fiiinne," Ellie groaned, trudging over to the slower sled.
"You know, Li, you never used to be so strict," Leo said, stepping next to him.
"Well, times have changed."
"True."
"I can't risk her getting hurt."
"Of course not," Leo nodded. "But she's your daughter. She's gonna want to try new things and get out of her comfort zone."
"I'm aware."
"So maybe let her have a little more freedom. It's not going to kill her."
"I'll think about it."
"Good. But remember, we did a lot of stuff we shouldn't have when we were kids."
"Exactly.”

What Could Have Been: A Bad Romance One-Shot
Series: What If but more specifically Maximum Damage (the alternate ending)
Original Series: Bad Romance
Fandom: The Royal Romance/The Royal Heir
Pairing for this chapter: Liam x Max (now), Liam x Riley (past), Riley x Max (past)
Rating: MA
Warnings for this chapter: character death mentioned.
Word Count:  812
A/N: This was written in response to an ask from @kyra75 for the angstgiving event hosted by @choicesprompts. The request was for the prompt "What could have been" and was specifically for the Bad Romance gang. Since BR had a happily ever after, I couldn't come up with a good, angsty what could have been until the alternate ending popped into my head. Once it did, this just suddenly existed in my head and I had to write it.
My other stuff: Master List.
Tumblr media
The crown princess of Cordonia was getting married to the love of her life. It was a watershed moment in her life. All of Cordonia would be watching as she walked down the aisle.
The king was sure that there had never been a prouder father in the history of the world. His little princess was all grown up. She was happy. She was radiant. She looked just like her mother.
He turned his head to observe his queen. The years hadn’t dimmed her beauty one bit. She was as beautiful as the day he’d first lain eyes on her in that bar in New York.
Liam had been born into wealth, and raised to rule, but the greatest privilege of his life had been raising their daughter. It didn’t matter that biologically speaking; she was Drake’s daughter. Her DNA didn’t matter.
Drake. The best friend he’d ever had. His childhood companion. His partner in crime. His closest confidant. His brother.
“Don’t get too sentimental. You promised her you wouldn’t cry.” Drake smiled at him from the seat on the other side of Riley.
“How can I help it?” Liam responded as tears slipped down his cheek. “You’re here. You’re both here for her big day.”
“Liam.” Max’s voice intruded on the scene.
Not yet, Max. Just a few more moments.
Riley leaned over and touched his hand. “She’s so lucky to have you. You’ve done a wonderful job. You and Max both. Thank you.”
“Liam. Liam.”
Not yet, Max!
But it was too late. They were already fading.
“Wait! Don’t go!”
“Liam, come on, it’s time to get up.” Max shook him gently by the shoulders. “We don’t want to be late for the wedding.”
Liam blinked against the onslaught of brightness flooding into the royal suite. “Max?”
“Yeah, who else would it be? Are you okay? You were crying in your sleep.”
“I was dreaming, but Max, it seemed so real! I was at the wedding, and Riley was with me! Drake too!”
“Oh, babe.” Max climbed back into the bed and wrapped Liam in his arms and tears sprang into his own eyes. “I miss them too.”
Twenty six years later and he still blamed himself. If only he hadn’t dropped the damn cell phone that day. If only he’d pulled over to the side of the road before trying to call 911. If he’d done that, then Riley and Drake would both still be here. Hope would have her biological parents. Liam would have his queen. He would have his everything.
But that’s not what happened and now all they could do was dream about what could have been.
Liam looked up into his husband’s eyes. “It wasn’t your fault. It was a tragic accident.”
Max smiled through his tears. Of course Liam knew exactly what he was thinking. Liam was the only reason he was alive. Liam had willed him to live and pushed him to walk again.
Getting out of that wheelchair had been the hardest thing he’d ever done. Not because of the grueling months of physical therapy, but because he had felt like he deserved to be there. He would never understand why he had Liam’s love and forgiveness when he knew he didn’t deserve it, but he was grateful for it. And he was grateful for the daughter they shared. The one whose heart stopping smile was the spitting image of the woman they had both lost.
“I know,” Max lied. Today was a happy day, not a day to wallow in recriminations. “We both promised Hope that we wouldn’t cry today.”
Liam laughed, a bit of sunshine returning to his life. Max had a way of doing that. “We all knew that was a lie when we said it.”
“Oh, a bald faced lie! She’s our baby girl. Of fucking course we’re going to cry!”
Liam laughed again as the last vestiges of the dream wisped away.
Riley and Drake would be there in spirit. Hope had left two reserved seats empty to represent them.
Hope was what they had left of their lost loved ones. And she had brought exactly that into their lives. Hope was what they had clung to in those early days of grief. She had brought sunshine and joy, laughter, and beauty back into the world.
Drake had certainly named her appropriately all those years ago.
Four hours later, they watched her say I do. They both cried copious amounts, but they were happy tears.
And while they both wished that Riley and Drake were there with them, they were thankful to have each other.
The king glanced at the two empty seats. He swore he could feel them there. Maybe, somehow, in some other existence, they were.
Deep in his heart, Liam believed that somewhere out there, in an alternate universe, what could have been, was.
