Same anon.
Thank you for going through the trouble to find the stream for me. This truly brings back memories. I've been away from the phandom for too long, and I'm glad to come back to it to see it still thriving and to see the creators I knew from years ago still creating.
May I ask what's the plot for Phantom's Confidant? I do remember reading the first few pages of the comic, from the doodles I remember there's time travel and magic?
it's honestly the run-of-the-mill OC gets sent back in time to the time POTO took place (the book, not the musical). Basically OC and Erik become reluctant room-mates.
This literally takes right after the Erik let Christine go, and he just going to die in isolation. The time-travel is explained by a mad-scientist with a god-complex who's trying to create a working time-portal. Ji-Hyun accidentally stumbled into stuff she shouldn't have seen, and was used as a lab-rat to test the portal.
Also, Ji-hyun can't die easily, cuz for some reason she had some weird magic time counter that allows her to survive. She needs it considering the few times Erik treats her coldly, and the mistakes of traversing the lair, and the psycho-scientist's frankenstein monsters that followed her through time.
Honestly the story is a mess, and I really don't think their relationship was healthy. Doesn't matter that Ji-hyun was 21, that's still a huge leap. Even when I decided to keep it platonic, it still wasn't the best.
If I EVER wanted to start the story back up, it would get a title change, and I'd rather make it some weird supernatural thing where Ji-hyun and Erik would visit each other's worlds as kids. Then the time slips suddenly stopped, and the events from the first draft of this story would pick up.
Basically childhood friends that grew apart due to distance (time) and suddenly catching up with each other. Except it's when they're both at their lowest point. Ji-hyun exudes angry, spiteful gremlin energy due to some shit life events. Erik has to readjust and relearn to be a better , cuz Ji-hyun was severely disappointed at what he became. And poor Daroga is the exhausted dad of two chaotic grown-ass adults.
hope you enjoyed the initial story premise, and the possible (not likely) reboot premise

i think the thing i'm most disappointed about with riordanverse fandom now versus like 2014 is not only has the fandom not gotten any less racist or queerphobic or ableist (in fact in some regards its gotten worse!) but now it's just boring too. like there's no fandom infrastructure anymore - the community these days is almost entirely source material-driven - and you deviate from canon even slightly people get weird about it. whatever happened to the post-HoO fanon boom. the fandom needs to get weirder again. and self-sufficient. and less offensive.
#pjo#riordanverse#deep and weary sigh. we need to bring back the lower ecosystem rings of fandom#prop up some good ol' community spaces especially since a lot of old ones have totally petered out#< mostly referring to stuff like ye olde ship headcanons blogs#heck even doing a quick search for ''pjo headcanons'' the most recent blog was last active in 2017 and the other two in 2013#there's an rp community floating around but im keeping tabs on the riordanverse askblog community and its a bit dire#there's been like what - *one?* maybe two major fandom aus that have floated around recently?#one moreso being one person's au that most people dont actually do much with#and the other more being like a half-hearted general concept that got kicked around for a couple of weeks#i am legitimately tempted to just go wild and start planning out and setting up like a hub for trying to revitalize the community#like the community EXISTS. it's THERE. it ebbs and flows! but now it only really does much when there's new official content#and it rarely exists outside of that#and given we are technically in a fandom boom right now with the show now is like. the perfect opportunity to set up fandom infrastructure#so that new fans have a place to go and integrate with the community and start pumping new life back into things#also i think the fandom becoming more self-sufficient could help with the offensive part since Rick sure isnt helping

It's kinda shocking to me how few people seem to know how prevalent the 'my great grandmother was cherokee' myth is and how it's almost never actually true, especially when it comes with things like 'never signed up' or 'fell off the trail' or 'courthouse burned down destorying the documentation' etc etc.
People just don't even seem to know the history like.. when the Trail happened. My great great great grandfather was 2 years old during Removal in 1838, so peoples 'my great grandmother hid in the mountains!' is so clearly wrong. And we have rolls. From before and after removal, rolls done by cherokee nation and others by the government, rolls that were not stored in one random flammable courthouse. It's not difficult to find the actual evidence of ancestry.
And just.. there are lots of ways those family stories get started. It was a practice during the confederacy to claim cherokee ancestry to show one's family had 'deep roots in the south' that they were there before the cherokee were removed. Many people pretended to be cherokee and applied for the Guion-Miller payout just to try to steal money meant for cherokees - 2/3rds of the applicants were denied for having 0 proof of actual cherokee ancestry. [We even see lawyers advertising signing up for the Miller roll just to try to get free money.] And the myth even started in some families in the cherokee land lotteries, where the land stolen from us was raffled off, including the house and everything that was left behind when the cherokees were removed. We have seen people whose families just take these things stolen from the cherokee family and adopt them into their own family story, saying that they were cherokee themselves.
If you had some family story about being cherokee and you wanna have proof one way or the other, check out this Facebook group run by expert cherokee genealogists that do research for free. Just please read the rules fully and respect the researchers. They run thousands of people's ancestries a year and their average is only around 0.7% of lines they run actually end up having true cherokee ancestry.
#and ive heard even dumber origins of the cherokee family myth#such as an ancestor having a silly sounding name so the descendents just go 'oh she mustve been an indian!!!'#i was one of the few people who had my ancestry done on the facebook and had genuine cherokee ancestry#[though i had found it before it was just really validating to get it double checked and i started finding cousins (:]#like. i was told once when i was a kid by my grandma that my dad had cherokee ancestry and i didnt believe her. its wild that so many peopl#will make it a Fixture of their identity [or even just smth they bring up ever] with Zero proof#at least for cherokees from what ive seen its usually considered really disrespectful to claim to have cherokee ancestry without#actually having the documentation [like ancestors on the rolls]#and no a dna test doesnt count. nor does 'my dad is Clearly not white!' or 'high cheekbones' or old family photos or anything#i had this discussion with someone recently whose dad had been calling himself 3/4 native but didnt know exactly what nation ???? hello?#and its like... sorry but ur dad is like. italian lol.#[and blood quantum is bullshit anyway im tired of the 'im 1/16 cherokee' comments its dumb#cherokee nation does not have a blood quantum requirement. its pointless bringing it up in the discussion of who is or isnt cherokee]#also mandatory disclaimer that im reconnecting. i didnt grow up connected to the culture of even knowing my ancestry#this is all from my looking into this stuff over the past year or so. i cant claim to be an authority over anything regarding this#this is p much all my repeating things ive heard said by people who know a lot more than i do haha#man. and this isnt even starting to get into the fake tribe stuff. the only legit cherokee groups are the 3 federally recognized bands#cherokee nation of oklahoma. united keetoowah band. and the eastern band of cherokee indians.#any others that are state recognized or not at all arent acknowledged as legitimate by any of the legit cherokee groups#anyway. my final message goodb.ye#cherokee#tsalagi

One of my gripes with the pjo show was, ultimately, the portrayal of the gods. Like, when I just think of them I imagine powerhouses, persona and all. Heck, even if they are chill and laid back as a cover, around a certain point you'd even notice their aura for power. But, in the show....I don't really get that vibe. Like Ares letting the kids talk back and all that, when he was quick to check him the books or how the mere presence of Hades had the trio on edge. Heck, Percy got flack from Zeus for failing to address him first, so how would he just be fine with letting Percy run his mouth like that, no matter how right he was? And I'm not saying that it had to be just like the books, but it doesn't seem that hard to make these gods intimidating.
#pjo tv show#pjo show crit#percy jackson#percy jackon and the olympians#pjo#and it def didn't make sense for annabeth to badmouth ares with little regard like she would never#and then while percy is clearly different in those regards he's smart enough to know when to dial it back#the show said “nah” with that especially so early on#“why are you bringing up old stuff-” it's not old to me & the s2 trailer just dropped so 🤷🏾♀️#pjo will never be old news on this blog

Alright, time for some obscure Persona 3 history. I was browsing the old Japanese Persona 3 website, when I stumbled across something interesting. This is what it looks like normally (Vanilla P3 specifically)
But on certain captures of this website on the Wayback Machine, it was set to midnight (JST). The website was coded to have a special easter egg that goes off around that time, as the Dark Hour clock appears...
And then the site is now in the Dark Hour.
Click on the Akihiko, Mitsuru, Fuuka, and Junpei, and cause them to disappear, and Yukari will start to glow.
And you will have unlocked a secret section of the Japanese website! This mostly contained diary entries on various perspectives regarding the Dark Hour (on one section, there even was text regarding Strega's revenge request site), but there also were some secret downloads, namely a supposedly early version of a Persona 3 commercial (which Google translate says it was rejected by a TV station for containing subliminal content?), MP3 downloads, a video showcasing the P3 girls in maid costumes in Tartarus, and a message from Elizabeth to the player (which acted as a tease towards the new Elizabeth requests being added in FES). I have the latest capture of the secret section of the website, as well as a capture of the website during the Dark Hour so you can try this for yourself! (You'll need Ruffle for this)
Speaking of the Persona 3 website, let's go over some of the evolution of the P3 website! Here's the original version of the website when Persona 3 was first announced.
It was updated from P3's initial announcement in March towards May when the newer website was launched, last major update was Fuuka Yamagishi's character profile. Here's a Wayback Machine link for you to try it out yourself.
Here is the website around the time they were teasing FES. Makoto is replaced with Aigis, and there was a section containing audio messages from the developers that would help tease FES. (So far, they are lost media? Hopefully some fan manages to recover them)
And here is the FES version of the website, with both the normal and Dark Hour variations. (Metis replaces Yukari on the Dark Hour variation of the website, though I cannot access the secret section, probably because the silly toaster is blocking the way)
And just for funzies, I thought I'd include this link regarding P3 ads in this blogpost on the old AtlusNet. Hopefully somebody will get high quality scans of the magazine ads and promos used to promote P3 in both Japanese and English.
Now to wonder, what other crazy P3 promotional stunts did Atlus do? I know there was a countdown on the Atlus USA website that counted down the days until the release information on FES would be provided to the world, and I'm well aware of various Japanese gaming magazines that had various info on P3 (that so far only exist as JPEGS on the old Digital Devil Database and other websites), but man, I wanna know more. The fans should be archiving a lot of this stuff. Reload has re-triggered my Persona 3 phase, and I want to know more secrets about the game. I honestly think there's a lot of cool things waiting for us down the line...
#persona 3#atlus#2000s game advertising was wild man#hopefully a lot of this doesn't end up as lost media#i'm just doing my best to archive a lot of this stuff for future fans of persona 3#maybe if atlus had the guts they'd bring back the old websites for april fools day#course i'm waiting for someone to remake the old persona 3 website but this time with the reload art for the characters

Crying, sobbing, throwing up after reading Bill vs Bill and knowing that in the Book of Bill, Bill had parents, a family who loved him. And Familiar!Bill has that again in the form of his Dipper loving him back
Thank you! Familiar!Bill is really doing much better than the baseline version, what with forming one (1) honest emotional connection and all.
I'm pretty pleased with the emotional arc of Bill vs Bill, but if I went back to it? I'd alter some of Bill's weaponized embarrassment to include Book of Bill details. It'd just hit so much harder.
#answers#We were truly blessed with so much material from Book of Bill#There's so much stuff that Familiar Bill could have used once things got really rough to TRULY hammer things home#One recitation of Cipher Cipher he's insane/starting fires with his brain#And Other Bill would instantly start sweating#Cause if Familiar Bill is dredging up THAT old of a memory to throw him off his game#Then he's REALLY bringing out the big guns#Dipper's still there of course#Standing at the sidelines and boggling at some REAL deep lore he never knew existed#The ego fight was invisible to his eyes but just imagine#Other Bill cackling because his opponent is equally matched but already wounded in the swordfight#Only for Familiar Bill to strike a match and hold it near the fuse of a giant TNT barrel labeled 'pre-Euclidean Massacre memories'#Other Bill all like you wouldn't fucking dare. You'd kill us both!#And the response 'Just try me'#Familiar!Bill would if asked proclaim that he's just that much better at bluffing#That coward crumpled under pressure! What a loser!#He shoulda been smarter. Obviously Bill would never ACTUALLY go through with that. Ha!#When really the only reason he was ABLE to make the threat#Is because deep-down. A part of him trusts Dipper to catch him if he falls#Bill is a consummate liar

So, I spent the last week rewatching* Deadloch to determine if it really is a fair play mystery, and my answer is: yes, kinda. Yes, in that you do get all the information the detectives do before the reveal (though sometimes the information will be withheld for a scene or two for dramatic effect). Kinda because the clues given in the first seven episodes** are not enough to point the finger at the murderer without looking at the show as a piece of art, and considering what its themes are and which of the viable suspects would best reflect those themes. Specific spoilers under the cut. Do not read until after you have watched Deadloch, which you should do as it is amazing.
*reading the subtitle files and watching a few key scenes
** I'm not including the 8th episode, where the killer is revealed, because by that point you're not getting clues, you're getting answers.
Every clue I noticed that implicates Ray, with commentary
(episode one) Cath mentions going to treat Ray's pet: Not super useful, as we see Ray with Lou later, and learn that Lou is old and likely to need medical treatment. It doesn't mention the pentobarbital, though presumably Lou is Ray's excuse for getting it from Cath. It also gets his name in the show right away.
(episode two) When Ray takes Eddie to the shack, he mentions Skye O'Dwyer is his best friend. We also know he works for her mom at the bakery, and seems to care for the whole family. So when we start considering who would kill Sam O'Dwyer, he's definitely close enough to the family to be a suspect.
(same scene) We learn Ray isn't from Deadloch, but has been living there for some time. But the line is vague on when specifically he moved. It would have been helpful to know he moved before Sam was killed.
(same scene) Eddie lets Ray know she's leaving as soon as they find Sam and his boat, where she thinks (correctly) the murders happened. It's not a secret, but he's the only non-police character we're shown specifically being told this information.
(episode two) Ray doesn't have any lines after he leaves Eddie at the shack, so I watched the end of the episode and he doesn't rejoin the other main characters at the Bush Wolf. Not suspicious in and of itself, but if you go back and look for alibis, it's clear he doesn't have one for planting Sam's body/setting the boat on fire
(episode three) Sam's body is planted immediately after Eddie keys in on him as a suspect. Amusingly, this seems to be less about Ray wanting to show he's smarter than to cops and more about making sure Eddie stays in town.
(episode three) Eddie again tells Ray she's leaving as soon as they have the DNA match, then leaves him after taking a swab. The next guy in line goes to Ray to get swabbed for the test. This implies it's possible he didn't submit his sample and that's why the blood on the boat didn't match him. It's also possible that the blood was from a previously undiscovered victim. I don't think we ever find out which was the case. My assumption is the latter, because why would he hand over a DNA sample if it might implicate him?
(episode four) Kind of an anti-clue: Ray at the beginner swimmer class. An experienced sailor isn't necessarily a good swimmer, and he used a boat for the first five (discovered) victims. Of course, this turns out to be a lie and Ray's actually an accomplished swimmer, but it doesn't make sense that he'd be pretending to need lessons.
(episode five) Ray is one of the first people to find Jimmy's body and reports it, fits with killer wanting to see other people reacting to his art.
(episode five) Another anti-clue: Ray vomits when he sees the body, and again while telling Eddie about it. The character might have been able to fake it that first time (he was preparing food, he could have snuck a slurry into his mouth like the actor actually did) but I think the character had to be genuinely vomiting the second time.
(episode five) Even with my glasses on I couldn't read the list of names the priest faxed over while it was on the tv. Taking a screenshot and zooming in gave me a better look, but while one of the names looked like it might have been Ray McLintock, it wasn't clear. Given that Eddie didn't know his name (he told her when she took his DNA, but it didn't stick) I think it would have been fine for us to see his name on the list, but not have it ping with her. (Spouse and I were calling him "Ray Pies" when we talked over the episodes, so I doubt the name would have pinged for me, but it would have been nice to have confirmation he knew about the religious stuff).
(episode six) “I’ve made some mistakes with women, and I’ve had some pretty weird interests” okay, it's not much of a clue by itself, but in retrospect, yeah, I think he has.
(episode seven) The six extra bodies surface and it turns out they were frozen and had defrosted over the last forty-eight hours. This means the killer started to defrost them around the time of the DNA testing. Also when Eddie told Ray she'd be leaving soon.
(episode seven) Eddie admits to actually liking Ray. She's a mess with shitty taste, there had to be something wrong about him.
That's pretty much it for clues within the show. It's not a lot, and I'd argue it's not enough to consider the mystery solvable. It's fine when clues don't seem to be relevant before you know who done it, but I think they need to be a little more conclusive when you look back over them. In the first seven episodes we don't know that Ray has access to pentobarbitol, or that his pet is still alive, or about Sam not being his first kill. At no point do we find out where he was storing those frozen corpses for years (sure, Skye has a cool room for her restaurant, but she would be using it) or how he got his hands on William Carruther's old car. And we don't know he moved to Deadloch before the murders began until we find out he was committing them.
Still, if you start with the theme of reinvention, and you eliminate suspects based on definitive alibis and not psychological profiles, Ray is one of the better suspects left, especially if, like me, you'd been assuming Margaret killed her brother from the moment we heard he'd left the country. Ray being the killer wasn't a shock, but I didn't know ahead of the scene in episode eight where Eddie finds Lou, even if I joked about Ray being the killer because Eddie liked him. So in conclusion: fair play, kinda.
#deadloch#if i missed a clue you caught please let me know#and for all the 'women kill to solve problems men want credit' stuff#ray sure seemed to kill as a way to solve a problem#he didn't deliver the tongues to the women he 'helped' until after he was set up for his grand finale#(they would have seen the tongues in their freezers)#and he hid bodies for years#he wasn't seeking credit by bringing up old kills#he was making sure Eddie didn't leave town#(not that he didn't want credit; he wanted to impress Eddie with his feminist crimes so she'd marry him)

Okay wait I desperately need a qui-gon lives AU where he's sent on a secret undercover mission to the midrim for a year and or two that his lineage knows but kept quiet about because confidentiality, and when he came back the Clone Wars was already ongoing. Imagine Obi-wan and Anakin delightedly going "Master Jinn!" when he returns, completely disregarding the utter confusion of the clones and because they have never ever seen this man man before.
#Help imagine the 212th's reaction to Qui-gon inadvertently treating Obi-wan like he's still his padawan sometimes#casually bringing up one of their old master and padawan missions or something#Obi wan is a Master okay but to Qui-gon Jinn he is baby#Jinn and Skywalker as the ultimate chaos dream team#Qui-gon and Mace windu being childhood friends can you IMAGINE#star wars#anakin skywalker#obi wan kenobi#qui gon jinn#swtcw#sw prequels#star wars the clone wars#poor poor commander cody#disaster lineage!!!#imagine ahsoka meeting him thinking he's all strict and master-y and it turns out he's A Big Mess#Qui-gon loves his jedi family okay he cant leave them alone#I don't think he'd be a general#I think that he'd be a sort of scout figure#sent on solo and spy missions kind of like a jedi shadow#and hinting on his role as Dooku's former padawan#but not technically a shadow. he does more diplomacy and intelligence gathering and undercover stuff as opposed to direct leadership like#what anakin and obi-wan do. but the clones call him general bc habit

Technically Yoichi can be the older twin sibling.
It depends on cultural perspective, actually.
Say we have a pair of hypothetical twins. There's the belief that the twin born FIRST is the older one, because they're the first one to enter the world. This is a belief modern Japan (not just BNHA, actual Japan) follows too.
But back then, in an older Japan, it's the opposite. The twin born first is the younger twin.
Why is that? Because the twin that comes out second must have been conceived earlier, since that twin is further in the back and came out later as a result. Or perhaps, the older twin gave the younger twin the chance to leave first, whether because they're the older sibling looking out for them, or because the younger twin was closer to the exit.
Yoichi is the younger twin brother, and that's all from AFO's belief. He told Yoichi that, they grew up with that, and the knowledge spread around. But they were babies with no witnesses to their birth, and we know AFO is an unreliable narrator. It's possible neither know who's really the oldest. I also doubt they, as babies, have memories out of the womb too.
AFO could've used the wrong time period of determining which twin is older. And if he's younger, maybe it's so he can be the older twin, since he would just have to pick between older VS modern ideas to suit him.
Anyway, main point of this: we can technically consider Yoichi the older twin, by old Japan beliefs. This probably annoys AFO
#this isnt bnha universe stuff its actually real#babies dont have memories immediately. the brain develops that at maybe 2 years old or so#bnha#my hero academia#boku no hero academia#mha#spoilers#yoichi shigaraki#afo#all for one#kid do you really not have a name#even if afo ends up not being hisashi midoriya i still think the name hisashi suits him#yoichi probably never studied history but i bet him bringing this up would cause an AFO tantrum when theyre kids and teens

Last Saw post of the night but I’m actually still mad about what they did to Hoffman’s character/retcons they made to it via those flashback scenes with Gibson in Saw VII.
I’m meant to believe that Mark Hoffman, the man who craved revenge against his sister’s killer so badly that it became his sole focus/reason to live, yet still turned away when the man actually died, decided to shoot an unarmed homeless man multiple times without flinching or showing any remorse in the action? And that this same murder happened BEFORE the Seth Baxter stuff? Make it make sense please
#none of the Gibson stuff is canon to me. he can exist in the saw canon but this previous experience with Hoffman does not make sense#they already had reasons to have beef! the whole thing from saw iv with Hoffman lying to protect Rigg and cover up that misconduct!#expand on that more and maybe bring up another old case with similar cover ups! they didn’t need to kill Hoffman’s character building#I can excuse Hoffman just becoming a killing machine in Saw 3D (even if it’s pretty goofy and hate we don’t get more to his character)#but I cannot excuse trying to say that he’s always been like that#mark Hoffman#saw#saw franchise#saw series#sawposting
