I don't know if I've ever mentioned this before, but Venera's name actually means venus. which, while not seeming overtly necessary information at first glance, actually is something I was losing my mind over yesterday because. the three brightest objects in the sky, in order, are the sun, the moon, and venus.
#venus as a planet does not symbolize love to me it symbolizes conflict and subtle deviations from the 'norm' and change and and#(venus is the closest planet to earth's size and conditions ; yet it reminds incredibly hostile because of overheating.)#it also has been suggested that while life COULD have existed on venus at some point#it heated so much it's not plausible as of now#venus actually informed a lot about our knowledge of what global warming would do in the like. 1970s.#venus. also spins clockwise on it's axis. and while we don't know the exact reason for this a long held theory is that -#- venus had been hit by a planet sized object ; and that irreversibly changed it's direction of rotation forever.#and all of this is something I tell to you to finally explain how mitski's#“venus; planet of love; was destroyed by global warming. did it's people want too much too? did it's people want too much?”#is something that hasn't left my mind for antag!venera since I remembered it exists.#I feel like I talk about antag!v more then normal!v but you need to understand#v is like. happy. and normal. antag v has been living in a cave for one thousand years. one of these are just more fun to explore.#saying stuff#oc things#fallout: canon aligned venera#also yeah if you don't get the caption swk is the brightest thing and then macaque is in his shadow and stuff.#but at least he gets mentioned. it's “the sun and moon” not. “the sun; moon; and. venus.'#despite venus. being one of the brightest objects in the sky. and also being considered incredibly important across many cultures for that.#I think thoughts

The star of Ishtar
The Octagram symbol is a star ideogram that commonly appears in ancient Babylonian iconography. The eight-pointed star is usually associated with ancient goddesses such as Ishtar, Innana, Isis and Venus. These goddesses were all seen as protectress of love, fertility, beauty, divine law and power.
The symbol was originally seen as a representation of the seven heavens ruled by the goddess and later became a representation of the planet Venus associated with fertility goddesses. The planet is the third brightest object in Earth's sky after the Sun and the Moon and in the past, it was referred to as the morning or evening star. In the Old Babylonian period, the planet Venus was known as Ninsi'anna translates to "divine lady, illumination of heaven".
In many myths, Inanna’s descend into the netherworld and return to the heavens may correspond with the movements of the planet Venus in the sky, setting in the West and then rising again in the East.
The discontinuous movements of Venus relate to both to the myth as well as Inanna's dual nature. Other theories recognize the story of Inanna's descent into the underworld as a reference to an astronomical phenomenon associated with retrograde Venus.
The symbol refers to the cosmic power of the goddess as ruler of sky and heavens and connected with the transcendental world. Her power stands in the mystery of magic and creation of the universe itself and for this reason the octagram became a powerful sigil used in antiquity as a devotional iconography connected with the goddess worshippers.

reblogging purely bc the Blue's Clues solar system song is possibly my firmest memory and will be the last thought in my head when i die. thank you, steve <3
Just so we're clear, in the canon of Moon Rising and People are Weird - really ANY sci-fi set in the Milky Way Galaxy that I write - Pluto is still a planet.
Listen I'm an old b*tch ('28 isn't old' shut up, my back pain makes me feel 40) and I grew up with Pluto being a planet. That Blue's Clues songs about the planets permanently altered my brain chemistry
so I don't care what NASA says, Pluto's a planet
In the grand scheme of things, it's not really THAT much smaller than Mercury
It's my AU. I'm turning gas giants into inhabited terrestrial planets somehow capable of sustaining life while somehow maintaining a functioning solar system.
So we've left the realms of reality anyway
YA'LL ARE IN MY WORLD NOW
#well the sun's a hot starrrrrrr#and mercury's hot tooo#venus is the BRIGHTEST planet#and Earth's home to me and you!#Mars is the red one#and Jupiter's most wiiiiiide#Saturn's got those icy rings#and Uranus spins on its side#Neptune's really windy!#and Pluto's really small#we wanted to name the planets and now we've named them aaaalllll#childhood#i know 70 somethings that act like kids#i will never be “old” :)

WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF ASTRONOMY??
Blog#413
Wednesday, June 26th, 2024.
Welcome back,
Countless generations have looked up at the night sky to observe its twinkling stars and dancing lights. In dark and remote places, before the advent of today's modern metropolises, the shimmering night sky must have looked truly alive.
Early days (and nights)
Indigenous cultures around the world have long performed astronomical observation with the naked eye, frequently spotting stars, planets, and other celestial phenomena.
These communities often used their knowledge of astronomy for:
Navigation
Timekeeping
Agricultural planning
Spiritual and religious practices
A closer look at the heavens
Ancient astronomers from around the world made many early observations and predictions. Historical records include many star charts, which reveal clear efforts to map the night sky and learn more about the mechanics of our universe.
Some examples of early discoveries include:
Planets versus stars
Babylonian astronomers in the first and second millennia BCE tracked five points of light in the night sky that moved differently than the other stars did. They concluded that something fundamentally different existed: these five points of light were not stars at all. Historians and astronomers now believe the Babylonians were among the first to recognize the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, which become visible to the naked eye at different times of the year.
A spherical Earth
As early as the 6th century BCE, ancient Greek philosophers documented evidence that Earth was a sphere. They noted that the night sky looked different when seen from various locations on Earth, hinting at our planet's curved surface. They also observed the round shadow of Earth on the Moon during lunar eclipses. These philosophers were even able to calculate the circumference of Earth quite accurately. They did this by measuring the length of the shadow cast by an object at exactly the same time, in two different locations. Taking into account the distance between those two locations and the difference in the lengths of the shadows, they calculated that Earth's circumference was about 46,250 kilometres. That is very close to the real value of 40,075 kilometres!
Bright supernovae
In the year 185, Chinese astronomers became the first to document a supernova. Several supernova explosions have been observed since then, including a particularly bright one in the year 1054, which (at its peak) was four times brighter than planet Venus, one of the brightest objects in the night sky. Some supernovae are even bright enough to be visible during the day!
Cloudy galaxies
The notion that our own galaxy – the Milky Way – is but one of trillions of other galaxies in the universe only dates back about a century. Before then, nearby galaxies were thought to be cloudy regions of the Milky Way. The first documented observation of the neighbouring Andromeda Galaxy was in the year 964 by a Persian astronomer who described it as a "nebulous smear." For centuries, it was simply known in star charts as the "Little Cloud."

“He, He is the God too great to have a name ! He is the inapparent and He is the very apparent. He who the intellect contemplates ! He is also the one seen by the eyes. He is the incorporeal, the multiform, better still, the omniform. Nothing exists which He is not, for everything that exist, everything is Him. From that comes that He has all names, for all things come forth from this unique father. From that comes that He has no name at all, for He is the father of all things.” (ibid)
Amun – An Aurora Filled Sky Talon Abraxas
Amun (Amen, Amon) was the king of the gods. The name means ‘The Hidden One’.
Amun is most commonly shown entirely in human form. Often he is standing or sitting on a throne wearing a red, flat-topped crown with two tall plumes and holding a sceptre in his hand. Amun can also assume the appearance of a ram, his sacred animal. His sacred colours were blue, red, yellow and green and his images are to be found throughout the Nile Valley.
The enormous temple complex of Karnak was the principal home of Amun where he was worshiped as the prominent divine entity. During the New Kingdom, his popularity eclipsed that of other major deities; he was the ‘king of the gods’. The warrior-god Montu was believed to be a manifestation of Amun. A Theban triad consisted of Amun, his wife Mut, and their offspring Khonsu, the moon god. All three had temples at Karnak.
Amun is a god whose attributes are so extensive it lacks the personality of other deities. His role as creator is emphasised in many hymns. He was believed to be self-generated. As a fertility god, he impregnated his mother, the Celestial Cow, to ensure the fecundity of animals and plants. He was closely involved with kingship, and many pharaohs regarded themselves as one of his incarnations and incorporated his name into their own (Tut-ankh-amun).
Amun was also seen as the divine consort of Egyptian queens (‘god’s wife of Amun‘). Queen Hatshepsut (right) presented herself as an offspring of the god during a visit to her mother. His virile strength made him an appropriate deity for ensuring military victory for the pharaoh. Amun was invoked for healing from the bites of dangerous animals and other illnesses. During the New Kingdom, he was a personal-saviour god of ordinary working people, as numerous devotional stele testify. Amun later became synchronised with Re to become Amun-Re.
Many catastrophist writers have attempted to give physical identity to Amun by placing him in the world of chaos. One of the most widespread identifications is the linking of Amun with Jupiter. This is because Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system and, since Amun was referred to as the ‘king of the gods’, Amun must therefore be Jupiter. This is an unsatisfactory explanation and exhibits a lack of knowledge about the ancient world. How could ancient people possibly know that Jupiter was the largest planet? From Earth it is a mere speck of light in the night sky. It is not even the brightest ‘star’. Excluding the Sun and Moon, the brightest light in the sky is Venus – why wasn’t Venus deemed king of the gods? What of the bright star Saturn or even Mars? If Amun was Jupiter, how do we explain Amun’s tall feathery plumes, his sacred colours, his syncretism with Re (Amun-Re) and epithets such as ‘one whose true form could never be known’? How can any of these apply to Jupiter?
Egyptologists fair no better. They understand Amun’s role in connection with the monarchy, but what is the meaning behind his strange plumes and curious epithets? Their best explanation is to present him as a solar deity – once again they point to the Sun.
The key to physically identifying and understanding Amun lies with his unusual, tall plumes and the colours contained within. They were direct representations of magical celestial lights that were observed the world over in ancient times – a phenomenon we call the Aurora.
The Aurora
The auroras are the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) and the Aurora Australis (Southern Lights).
Auroras are striking displays of coloured lights that are often seen over the Earth’s magnetic poles. They occur when the solar wind particles are trapped by the Earth’s magnetic field so they collide with molecules of air in the upper atmosphere (ionosphere). They are a spectacular sight and take the form of rapidly shifting patches of colour and dancing columns of light of various hues. The colours observed depend on several factors such as atmospheric conditions, intensity of the solar wind, temperature and location. The Aurora is always present in almost every area of the sky, but it is usually too faint to be seen except near the North and South Poles. The main colours of the Aurora are blue, yellow, red and green, the very same colours attributed to Amun.
The intensity of the Aurora is dictated by the solar wind, a stream of electrically charged particles from the Sun. When the solar wind blows exceptionally strong, the Aurora increases. The periods of maximum and minimum intensity of the Aurora coincide almost exactly with those of the sunspot cycle, which is an 11-year cycle. When the Sun is in the active phase it can unleash powerful magnetic storms that disable satellites, threaten astronaut safety, and even disrupt communication systems on Earth.
In March 1989, the Sun unleashed a tempest that knocked out power to all of Quebec, Canada, leaving six million people without electricity. Such intense magnetic storms cause spectacular, widespread auroras, even at latitudes as low as Mexico, which is 23 degrees north (similar latitude to Egypt).
As mentioned above 3,000 years ago, at the height of planetary chaos solar activity was far more intense than anything experienced today. Cosmic catastrophe gave way to intense geomagnetic storms and global auroras – seen at all latitudes day and night. They were observed during the day courtesy of the red Sun which gave rise to a twilight world. These shimmering magical lights were personified in the great god Amun.
Hymn to Amun
“Amun, who developed in the beginning, whose origin is unknown. No god came into being prior to Him. No other god was with Him who could say what He looked like. He had no mother who created His name. He had no father to beget Him or to sa: “This belongs to me.” Who formed His own egg. Power of secret birth, who created His (own) beauty. Most Divine God, who came into being alone. Every god came into being since He began Himself. Every being came into being when His being began being. There is nothing outside Him.” (Praise of Amun in the Decree for Nesikhonsu) “None of the gods knows His true form, His image is not unfolded in the papyrus rolls, nothing certain is testified about Him.”
Hymns to Amun, Papyrus Leiden I 350, chapter 200, lines 22- 24.

╭┈◦•◦❥•◦ Venus: Venus is the planet of beauty, aesthetics, and creativity. Venus also talks about our ability to create relationships, be adored and have a client and not just a customer. With Venus we can see how you can sell you work or ideas for others, how they will see you and feel around you and how others will value your work.
・❥・Venus in the 1st house/Aries: you’re drawn to projects that allow you to showcase your unique style and flair, and your ability to create works that reflect your personal tastes and values attracting clients who are looking for something truly authentic and individualistic. Many times the value of your work is due to the person behind it and people will seek and buy from you much more because they like your personality and authenticity than because they identify with your work alone. For you to stand out, you need to be the face of your business. If you work autonomously, be the person who connects with customers. If you are hired, try to escape the home office.
・❥・Venus in the 2nd house/Taurus: can indicate a love of luxury and material possessions. You’re drawn to projects that allow you to create high-end, valuable works of art, and your ability to infuse your work with a sense of elegance and sophistication attract clients who value quality and craftsmanship in their projects. You are the type of worker who accumulates everything you have to put into a single work. You can't do small things and that's why you attract clients who like a lot of work on one thing. Because of this too, you are better able to sell your work for an amount equivalent to your work or even more (because we know that many times the work we have with something is not compatible with how much we can sell it).
・❥・Venus in the 3rd house/Gemini: can indicate a love of communication and storytelling. You’re drawn to projects that allow you to express your ideas and emotions through your career, and your ability to connect with others through your work attract clients who value clear, effective messaging in their projects. Your clients are those who like to see the day-to-day more, like twitter and IG stories, nothing too big and planned, but spontaneous and with a clear objective, they like quick and interactive art. Siblings, childhood/school friends and neighbors can be your first clients.
・❥・Venus in the 4th house/Cancer: can indicate a deep emotional connection to your work. You’re drawn to projects that tap into your personal history or family background, and your ability to create works that evoke a sense of nostalgia or sentimentality attract clients who value a personal touch in their projects. It can also appeal to people who like more morbid subjects (the 4th house is all about where we physically stay and the coffin is our last home). Give them the angst (if you do arts, plz).
・❥・Venus in the 5th house/Leo: can indicate a love of creativity and self-expression. You’re drawn to projects that allow you to showcase your unique artistic style and flair, and your ability to create works that reflect your personal tastes and values attract clients who appreciate individuality and creativity in their projects. Your clients love storytelling, but it's grand and fanciful. They also like content inspired by other works but original in its own way and rivalries like the red and blue characters.
・❥・Venus in the 6th house/Virgo: can indicate a love of service and practicality. You’re drawn to projects that serve a practical purpose or solve a specific problem, and your ability to create works that are both beautiful and functional attract clients who value efficiency and practicality in their projects. People like how your projects solve something, fill a gap that no one else was filling. Giving an example of a story, you're the type that gives immersion and meaning to each character and it has a beginning-middle-end and that's what people like.
・❥・Venus in the 7th house/Libra: can indicate a love of collaboration and partnership. You’re drawn to projects that allow you to work closely with others, and your ability to create works that reflect the tastes and values of your clients attract clients who value collaboration and teamwork in their projects. In this, your best projects are the ones that do collabs, ARGs, and works that need audience interaction to have meaning like many arts in museums that need the audience to work.
・❥・Venus in the 8th house/Scorpio: can indicate a love of depth and intensity in your artistic work. You be drawn to projects that explore complex themes and emotions, and your ability to create works that are transformative and impactful attract clients who are looking for something truly powerful and meaningful. Your customers want impact. They want your work to change them and make them think about what they were doing with their lives until now. Just as they want you to see them deeper and get closer to the cruelest and most carnal reality that exists in our world.
・❥・Venus in the 9th house/Sagittarius: can indicate a love of exploration and adventure. You’re drawn to projects that allow you to explore new ideas and perspectives, and your ability to create works that inspire a sense of wonder and awe attract clients who value a sense of curiosity and exploration in their projects. I also see a lot of more religious works here, with angels, demons, saints and of course, non-Christian stuff too. As well academic work or with a political vision behind it. It's that kind of work where you put a bunch of references on the last page. Your clients need you to be patient and guide them step by step to understand your work, which is why showing each step of everything is very important.
・❥・Venus in the 10th house/Capricorn: can indicate a love of ambition and achievement. You’re drawn to projects that allow you to showcase your skills and talents on a large scale, and your ability to create works that are both beautiful and impactful attract clients who value success and recognition in their projects. A taste for sculptures or non-digital arts is also very valid here, things that are catchy, for example, go sell physical books and not digital ones. Your customers like to be linked with your work, they like to being able to showcase it so when they talk about it they are included and recognized in a group.
・❥・Venus in the 11th house/Aquarius: can indicate a love of community and social connection. You’re drawn to projects that bring people together and create a sense of shared experience, and your ability to create works that resonate with a broad audience attract clients who value a sense of community and belonging in their artistic projects. Your client needs to be taken directly from the superficial to the deepest, it's like taking them from tiktok to a movie. That's why playing between the middle ground of showing them a preview of your work is the most appropriate.
・❥・Venus in the 12th house/Pisces: can indicate a love of the mystical and mysterious. You’re drawn to projects that tap into the unconscious or spiritual realms, and your ability to create works that evoke a sense of transcendence and otherworldliness attract clients who value a sense of spirituality or mysticism in their artistic projects. I didn't want to be so direct, but drawing tarot cards would be a great idea 😆. But if you can understand the example, here it talks about taking things learned in non-material ways to the material. Placing the meanings of an arcana in a drawing is very difficult and there are other subjects that are the same way. Your customers like all the message that exists behind an image, they are the kind of people who talk about allusions and different interpretations.
╭┈◦•◦❥•◦ 10th house: The 10th house represents career and public image. The sign and planets located in this house can provide clues about the type of clients who may be drawn to your public reputation as well your first impression of your professional persona, normally what they see in a commercial for example.

Venus: Earth's Cloudy Twin - September 23rd, 1996.
"If Venus weren't so cloudy, it would be more similar to Earth. This picture by the Galileo spacecraft shows just how cloudy Venus is. Venus is very similar to Earth in size and mass - and so is sometimes referred to as Earth's sister planet - but Venus has a quite different climate. Venus' thick clouds and closeness to the Sun make it the hottest planet - much hotter than the Earth. Humans could not survive there, and no life of any sort has ever been found. When Venus is visible, it is usually the brightest object in the sky after the Sun and the Moon. More than 20 spacecraft have visited Venus, including Venera 9, which landed on the surface, and Magellan, which used radar to peer through the clouds and make a map of the surface. This visible light picture of Venus was taken by the Galileo spacecraft."

Betelgeuse, α Orionis // Brandon Everhardt
The name "Betelgeuse" was derived from the Arabic phrase Yad al-Jawzā’ meaning "the hand of Orion." Apparently in the 13th century, the reading of the Arabic yā' as bā' led to the English name.
Betelgeuse is a red supergiant star, the tenth brightest star in the night sky. With a radius of around 640 times the Sun's radius, if it were at the center of our solar system, it would engulf all of the inner planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars). Thankfully, it is safely away at about 500 light years!

Three Planets Rock Image Credit & Copyright: Giovanni Passalacqua; Text: Liz Coelho (Pikes Peak)
Explanation: In the fading darkness before dawn, a tilted triangle appeared to balance atop a rock formation off the southern tip of Sicily. Making up the points of the triangle are three of the four brightest objects visible in Earth’s sky: Jupiter, Venus and the Moon. Though a thin waning crescent, most of the moon’s disk is visible due to earthshine. Captured in this image on 2022 April 27, Venus (center) and Jupiter (left) are roughly three degrees apart -- and were headed toward a close conjunction. Conjunctions of Venus and Jupiter occur about once a year and are visible either in the east before sunrise or in the west after sunset. The featured image was taken about an hour before the arrival of the brightest object in Earth’s sky – the Sun.

“venus is the hottest planet. and the brightest”
“what about the coldest?”
silence fills the room. you knew the consequences you would face telling connor the name of the cold planet
you take a deep breath in “uranus”
“ha! ur-”
you slap his head and shake yours in disapproval
“may I continue?” you ask
he nods his head
“most planets are affiliated with the roman gods and goddesses. venus for the goddess of love and beauty, mars for the god of war, pluto is the god of the underworld, jupiter is the king of gods, neptune is the god of the sea, and mercury god of messengers and thieves” you explain
“so aphrodite, ares, hades, zeus, poseidon, and hermes?”
“yep”
“the sun isn’t a planet, did you know that? It’s a star”
“you already told me that”
you frown “mercury is the smallest planet”
“what about the biggest?”
“jupiter”
“makes sense. what else?”
you could go on for days if you told him everything you knew about space, and lucky for you connor wouldn’t want do do anything else but listen

Lunar Occultation of Venus : On May 27 Venus rose as the morning star, near the waning crescent Moon in a predawn sky already full of planets. It was close on the sky to the Moon's crescent and a conjunction of the second an third brightest celestial beacons were enjoyed by skygazers around the world. But seen from locations along a track through southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean the Moon actually passed in front of Venus in a lunar occultation. In this animated gif the 75 percent illuminated disk of Venus approaches and just begins to disappear behind the sunlit southwestern lunar limb. The telescopic frames used to construct it were captured from Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean around 4:50am local time, with the Moon and Venus very close to the eastern horizon. At the time Venus was over 180 million kilometers from Reunion Island, compared to a lunar distance of a mere 400 thousand kilometers or so. About 50 minutes later Venus emerged from behind the Moon. via NASA

with love, venus
apocalypse au / tsukishima x fem! reader
cw: mentions of death and suicide
— a letter to the boy who you utterly fell inlove with during the end of the world.
my dearest kei,
if you're reading this, then you've followed my instructions to only open this letter only either when i'm gone, or if we've reached inside the walls of the safe haven. before anything else, please don't blame yourself if something bad happens to me. we both know we couldn't do anything about this goddamn apocalypse.
meeting you was the best thing that ever happened to me. sure, we didn't exactly have a good start (you were very rude to me) but only because i tried to steal what you were trying to loot in the abandoned supermarket where we met. i admit, it really takes a lot of patience to tolerate someone as spontaneous as me. despite me annoying the hell out of you every single day for the past six months since we met, i felt the affection you give me become stronger every single day that passes by.
i never thought that i'd ever fall inlove again, especially in this situation. i distinctly remember being in denial when i was questioning myself about how i felt towards you. i didn't want to admit it, because if i did then it would actually be real.
you kept me sane during the literal end of the world, and that's actually quite impressive. i can no longer imagine a life without you, kei. i know that we're lucky enough if we get to live another day in this chaos, and if we ever make it to the safe haven i want to settle down and grow old with you. god i really hope you won't get the chance to read this letter for the bad reason. for the first time in my life, i'm actually scared to die. i've finally found a purpose to keep living, but at what cost? why does it have to be under this circumstance?
if it comes down to it i want you to be the one who gets to witness dawn again. you've already been through enough, i've seen it with my own eyes. you've already suffered too much pain losing your companions. you deserve to live a tranquil life, my kei. i really need to get you to the safe haven. it is my only goal left.
as i'm writing this, the time is around midnight, and you are sleeping soundly beside me. we have less than a mile left to the safe haven, but i'm afraid the next area on our route is heavily infested with those things. we'll leave right before dawn. we head west and follow the bright star that follows the sun after setting venus. i've always thought of it as one of the stars, not until you corrected me about it. you said that venus is the brightest planet and that it was based off the roman goddess of beauty and love. you call me that every now and then since the moment you kissed me for the first time confessed but i'm not quite too sure if the goddess would appreciate that. nonetheless, i appreciate it.
only read this next part if i meet my fate:
don't do anything stupid, kei. don't go after me, don't try to fight off those things if we get swarmed, don't bring their attention to you— run. saving me wouldn't matter anymore if i got bitten.
i'll most likely ask you to kill put me down if it's too late for me. i really hope you don't hesitate. if you do, i'll do it myself. i'd rather you not see me as one of those things.
when you're sure that i'm no longer breathing, take all the essential items in my bag. even my share of the supplies and food.
go on without me. i know you well enough that you'd consider still bringing me to the safe haven, but your chances or surviving will increase more if you aren't dragging a body behind your back. just leave me.
take my necklace and wear it always.
when you get to the safe haven, that's only where i want you to make a grave for me. and when you do, make sure to change my last name to yours. i want to be remembered that way forever.
lastly, i hope you live a great life, my love. i love you more than you could ever imagine. i promise i'll always meet you in our next lives. you deserve to live the rest of this life in peace.
alright, i'm about to wake you up. god you look so cute when you sleep. it makes me want to wake up next to you each morning. i love you.
p.s. - if we ever actually make it there together, let's get married! okay that's all, i really need to wake you up now, we've got a tough journey ahead of us.
with love, venus
