Let me introduce myself :) My name’s Zephyros (like the greek god Ζέφυρος, I prefer using a fun nickname instead of my real name🙂) and I'm from Italy. I’m very interested in learning tarot, astrology and traditions from around the world. I also like psychology and languages, maybe I'll do some post about languages I'm learning, mainly Latin and Ancient Greek. I also want to post here translation of Italian contents since I know a lot of people who want to learn more about Italian Witchcraft and traditions but don’t speak Italian and aren’t able to read good books that aren’t in English. The star of Ishtar

The Octagram symbol is a star ideogram that commonly appears in ancient Babylonian iconography. The eight-pointed star is usually associated with ancient goddesses such as Ishtar, Innana, Isis and Venus. These goddesses were all seen as protectress of love, fertility, beauty, divine law and power.

The symbol was originally seen as a representation of the seven heavens ruled by the goddess and later became a representation of the planet Venus associated with fertility goddesses. The planet is the third brightest object in Earth's sky after the Sun and the Moon and in the past, it was referred to as the morning or evening star. In the Old Babylonian period, the planet Venus was known as Ninsi'anna translates to "divine lady, illumination of heaven".

In many myths, Inanna’s descend into the netherworld and return to the heavens may correspond with the movements of the planet Venus in the sky, setting in the West and then rising again in the East.

The discontinuous movements of Venus relate to both to the myth as well as Inanna's dual nature. Other theories recognize the story of Inanna's descent into the underworld as a reference to an astronomical phenomenon associated with retrograde Venus.

The symbol refers to the cosmic power of the goddess as ruler of sky and heavens and connected with the transcendental world. Her power stands in the mystery of magic and creation of the universe itself and for this reason the octagram became a powerful sigil used in antiquity as a devotional iconography connected with the goddess worshippers.

There's a nice little forest near an old graveyard in my hometown. Most of the tombs have been moved into the new graveyard around 1980 but some of the oldest tombstones are still there. I remember that when I was a kid so ... around 2000/2005 there was a mausoleum that hasn't been moved yet.

The mausoleum wasn't big, no stained glass or fancy doors. But it had a big dog statue, a metallic one. When I passed by I used to stop and pat the dog or leave a stick for him to play.

I remember my grandma laughing at this, and every time we walked nearby she made me check for the stick because "the dog spirit hid it around for sure!"

That's a cute memory...and I later discovered that leaving a stick or pat a dog statue at the graveyard brings good fortune 🍀 So... always pat the doggos✨

La Befana is recognized because of her broomstick, shawl, and sack filled with sweets and gifts for children. Legend is that she originally set out to meet the Baby Jesus, but never found her way to Bethlehem. To this day, in an attempt to catch up with the Wise Men, on the eve of Epiphany, she stops at every home, leaving sweets and gifts for well-behaved children in stockings that they’ve hung in their windows. Naughty children are left coal. My cousin Sabrina received a bounty of what Americans fall stocking suffers.
