Since Bran has been watching winterfell I think we may see him really tested in TWOW.
and her boy lying there broken, the sweetest of herĀ children, theĀ gentlest - Catelyn III AGOT
The Bastard himself was dead Bran learned that evening over supper. Ser Rodrik's men had caught him on Hornwood land doing something horrible (Bran wasn't quite sure what, but it seemed to be something you did without your clothes) and shot him down with arrows as he tried to ride away. They came too late for poor Lady Hornwood, though. After their wedding, the Bastard had locked her in a tower and neglected to feed her. Bran had heard men saying that when Ser Rodrik had smashed down the door he found her with her mouth all bloody and her fingers chewed off. - Bran V ACOK
"Some people hurt others just because they can," said Jojen.
"And it wasn't Theon who did the killing at Winterfell," said Meera. "Too many of the dead were ironmen." - Bran II ASOS
Bran has a gentle heart, but we know he's seen the vile things Ramsay has done through the heart tree.
Bran has already repressed what Jaime did but some of that anger is still there shown when he thinks about how he could "tear out the kingslayer's throat".
In Winds, we may see his gentle heart tested as we learn his thoughts about what Ramsay has done.
Seeing someone truly just torture and hurt people the way he does and enjoy it.
He has heard of it before with Lady Hornwood but to see it personally especially with what he's done with Theon and Jeyne who he's known his entire life, especially the later who has never harmed anyone.
Not to mention Beth, Old Nan, Palla, and the others being held in the dungeons, Bran yielded Winterfell to protect everyone only to see them being hunted like animals.
"If ice can burn," said Jojen in his solemn voice, "then love and hate can mate. Mountain or marsh, it makes no matter. The land is one." - Bran II ASOS
Once outside the godswood the cold descended on him like a ravening wolf and caught him in its teeth. He lowered his head into the wind and made for the Great Hall, hastening after the long line of candles and torches. Ice crunched beneath his boots, and a sudden gust pushed back his hood, as if a ghost had plucked at him with frozen fingers, hungry to gaze upon his face.
Bran's love for his people bringing out a hatred in him.
Bran being Ice that burns away at the Boltons and Freys.

just like the concept of āoathbreakingā is insufficient to cover the Kingsguardās moral transgressions so too is ākinslayingā inadequate to describe what was wrong with Theonās murder of the millerās boys!!!!!!!! the lines that society draws to permit or condemn behavior do not reflect the true weight of the deeds themselves!!!!!!!! itās easy to see in westerosi society but what if itās true in ours as well!!!!!
#asoiaf#this is an anti-Theon Kinslayer theory post#(the theory that the miller's boys were actually fathered by theon)#i think it completely misses the point of theon's arc#first because in order for them to be 'of an age' with bran and rickon theon would have to have been like 13#which transforms his murder of their mother from killing an uninvolved innocent to killing his rapist#but most importantly it takes away the parallel of jeyne.#theon did not kill his brothers. he did not save his sister.#the point is that the miller's boys' deaths are still a horrible crime even though they were not theon's kin#and the social order doesn't have a category to recognize that#just like Arys Oakheart thinks he soiled himself by having sex#while in reality it was spinelessly obeying orders from Joffrey#theon greyjoy#doc

Sansa as the fair Jonquil, Jeyne as Jonquil's sister, Theon as the Grey King, Rickon as a direwolf, Robb as King Daeron the Young Dragon, Bran as Ser Barristan the Bold, Arya as Nymeria of the Rhoyne, Jon as the ghost of Prince Aemon the Dragonknight.
When the spirit stepped out of the open tomb, pale white and moaning for blood, Sansa ran shrieking for the stairs, and Bran wrapped himself around Robbās leg, sobbing. Arya stood her ground and gave the spirit a punch. It was only Jon, covered with flour. āYou stupid,ā she told him, āyou scared the baby!ā but Jon and Robb just laughed and laughed, and pretty soon Bran and Arya were laughing too.

i actually hate talisa maegyr. i think her whole plot with robb was so stupid. like in the books robbās marriage with jeyne is this tragic situation thatās really a culmination of the stress and grief that robb has been going through and unable to truly process because he is a child trying to lead his people in a war. he gets injured and then learns that his former best friend has just betrayed him, captured his home, and killed both of his younger brothers which adds to growing list of loss in his life. his father got executed, his sisters are being held hostage, his best friend betrayed him, and now his brothers are dead. so while heās injured and kind of being consumed by his grief, jeyne westerling is there to comfort him and they do the deed and this only makes things worse because of how robb was raised and instilled with his fatherās honor, as well as seeing how jon was raised, robb feels compelled to marry jeyne to preserve HER honor which ends up being his downfall. but nooooo in the show robb falls in love with foreign beauty talisa maegyr and dies because heās an idiot and couldnāt keep it in his pants. like donāt get me wrong i love robbās scenes in the show richard madden call me i just think the story could have been so much better and been true to the tragedy that it is in the books.

I truly think d&d fucked Arya from her introduction.
The first thing we see her do in the show is use the bow to outshine Bran who is training while her parents smile indulgently when that's literally the opposite of her first chapter.
In the books, she also run off from Needlework to the disappointment Septa Mordane (fuck her specifically actually) and Cat and she explicitly is looking at boys training bellow not being able to join, just like Jon and if she would, her parents would be incredibly disapproving.
Jon is out there saying: "Girls get the arms but not the swords. Bastards get the swords but not the arms. I did not make the rules, little sister." In her first chapter and D&D read that (allegedly) and went: what if we did the opposite actually.
Also, because everyone has the Stark look, the sense that she is feeling like an outcast in her own family like Jon is gone which changes the entire dynamic.
We can also talk about "the woman is important too" vs that time they made her say the opposite but I already ranted about that.
#Also Arya being bullied which leads to a lot of insecurities just isn't a part of the show because Jeyne doesn't exist and Sansa's dynamic#with Arya is changed#asoiaf#a song of ice and fire#arya stark#jon snow#bran stark

ļæ¼ why does no one talk about the fact that Starks growl and whimper in their sleep like wolves like what was catelyn reaction when she first heard ned growling in his sleep or prim and proper Sansa barking in her sleep. I feel like thereās some great crack fic potential. Were characters associated with a starks like Robert, gendry, Jojen and Meera Reed and most importantly Jeyne Westerling (who is terrified of wolves, after Greywind killed I think her uncle,?)ļæ¼ reacting to this and completely losing their minds. ļæ¼

In my head canon Christmas in Winterfell would be like:
Catelyn ruling the kitchen with Bran helping her. Ned working at his home office till the last moment. Jon and Robb trying to impress Ygritte and Jeyne showing them around the estate with Rickon and the direwolves tagging along. Sansa and Jaqen getting dressed upstairs complimenting on each other's outfits and putting insane amounts of hairstyling products on their shiny red hair. Arya and Sandor watching sports downstairs, feet up, beers in hands.

Remember George's outline notes that had "joy of giving" and "mercy at the gate" for Arya? Mercy is crossed out and we obviously have that as her sample chapter, so what if Arya's next alias is "Joy"? Over-thinking the significance of that phrase and how it could apply to the rest of her Braavos arcš¤
#arya stark#asoiaf#something something /joy of giving/ could align with /all men must serve/ and Arya's apprenticeship with the courtesans#Arya learns more about courtly manners and becomes more comfortable with engaging in highborn spaces#while becoming more privy to Braavosi politics and how that connects to her responsibilities/identity as a Stark#when I imagine Arya reclaiming her identity I imagine it coming with her acceptance of even the /hard/ parts of her identity#I think Ned's words about /summer games/ and growing up will be incredibly relevant to her here#her reclaiming her identity while ignoring the /Lady/ aspect of it makes no sense...especially considering how often we're reminded of it#literally every time she reveals her identity it comes with people acknowledging her highborn status#one thing that makes me wish we had on-page Cat/Arya interactions cause I think her twow arc will be heavy on remembering Ned's words š#imagine her reuniting with Jeyne before she knows Bran+Rickon are alive and deciding to reclaim her identity at the unmasking festival#I have a pet theory that she could end up /taking responsibility/ for Jeyne's marriage to Ramsay in order to offer some protection to Jeyne#I think it fits considering she has a very protective nature and could feel guilty since she had the opportunity to reveal herself to Roose#basically I want the reclamation of her identity to be incredibly personal and about her feelings + values#which is why I like to imagine it happening before she's aware rickon+bran are alive but after she gets news that Jon is dead#I want her motivation to return home to be primarily about her internal development while outside factors are supporting#/need/ Arya exploring and accepting her identity in her own way#deciding to be Arya while her family is lost to her and that identity is connected to an unwanted marriage would feel so significant#(and yes it was Jeyne that was married to Ramsay but it was Arya's name used and it's still (partially) about/will impact her)#anyways I think about Arya's Braavosi arc a normal about can you tell? š#one day I won't put the majority of my post in the tags but today is not that day#I definitely thought too hard about this though that's why I have to hide it lol

Sansa VII ASOS
The Prince of Winterfell, ADWD
Girls among the ruins.
A little bit obsessed with the Sansa-Theon-Jeyne triangle. It's about loneliness. It's about a home you can't return to that maybe wasn't ever your home. It's about being cut off from who you are but maybe the cut doesn't go as deep as you think. It's about knowing your name. It's about stories and lies and all the stories are lies but maybe you can make your own story. And if it's yours maybe you can make it true.
#asoiaf#sansa stark#theon greyjoy#jeyne poole#they're all girls to me okay???#also#i think it's funny that theon dreamed of marrying sansa#because if killing bran and rickon is kinslaying then marrying sansa definitely counts as incest#theon just can't stop wanting to fuck his sister(s)#doc

Bran's wroth
The only sound was a faint soft sobbing. Jeyne, he thought. It is her, sobbing in her bridal bed. Who else could it be? Gods do not weep. Or do they?
What do you think passes through their heads when they hear the new bride weeping? Valiant Ned's precious little girl." - The Turncloak ADWD
It was only later that he thought, Men would not be sad. Men would be wroth. Men would hate and swear a bloody vengeance. The singers sing sad songs, where men would fight and kill. - Bran III ADWD
"The gods have turned against us," old Lord Locke was heard to say in the Great Hall. "This is their wroth. A wind as cold as hell itself and snows that never end. We are cursed." - A Ghost in Winterfell ADWD
"This is the wroth of the old gods come upon us. It is them we should appease." - The Sacrifice ADWD
Bran unleashing the power of the old gods for Vayon's little girl
