I watched 'The Magicians' a couple of months ago and I'm only sad I didn't watch it sooner.

There are so many things I love about this show. The world building and atmosphere are so cool and unique. When watching I found myself wanting to escape into Fillory alongside them.

What I appreciated about this show is that wasn't afraid to go into some darker themes and twist the mystical elements into something much more horrifying.

* MILD SPOILERS*

Characters dynamics and relationships are the heart of any show, and other than the beautiful world created, that is what this show nails. I still think about episode 5 of season 3, 'A Life In The Day ', where Quentin and Eliot grow old together in their pursuit of creating the beauty of the world out of mosaic. Just the simplicity of the meaning, a life alongside another is what makes life beautiful.

Or the scene where Margot hallucinates Eliot singing 'Don't Get Me Wrong' by the Pretenders. I loved their friendship so much.

I think this is why the last season was lacking, because character dynamics were off and the heart was gone.

Overall I still loved this show so much !!! And I love you Hale Appleman 💜💜💜💜

@horsetailcurlers2 and i finally finished the magicians the other day and though i do think the show shouldve ended differently and really should have been different from like s4e12 onward, i think with the current ending it just doesnt make thematic sense for eliot and alice to be where they are

like somehow eliot has tied himself down to brakebills which admittedly the physical cottage is his safe space or whatever but on the whole feels like hes not doing what he should be doing in the grand scheme of his character, (in terms of like tethering himself to a place where he was never actually himself and tethering himself to anywhere in general but i digress) like he should be helping build new fillory!! him and margo and josh and fen should be together and i feel like that was just thrown away for alice's self discovery or whatever (like cmon weve seen what the healers in the magical world can do, youre telling me broken fingers trumps missing fingers in terms of spellcasting??) it would also help on his growth, showing that although fillory kindve sucks and he definitely does not want to run it, it is still his home now and making sure its okay?? well thats been his goal fo a while even without being high king (also him naming margo high king margo the creator would have been way more moving than fen doing it im sorry)

whereas alice herself would have shown major growth if she were to be with the library or at brakebills, showing that she finally understands the importance of not just hoarding knowledge but sharing it (if she were a professor at brakebills) or working towards sharing it (leading the library in a way that further goes with that view shes been working on getting for the past idk four seasons???)

it also would have furthered both of their connections to quentin, with alice working with brakebills and eliot in fillory, which were where both of their connections to him really flourished and grew and how they could stay connected to him despite it all

Re the previous post and Eliot and Quentin's s1 dynamic, what do we think is the in-show/watsonian reason for why they never hook up in the first season (until the threesome)? Like there's no vibe that Eliot ever directly propositions Quentin and is turned down, so we're assuming that Eliot never asks. Why not? We see the one moment with the two of them on the couch and "let's not talk," which gets interrupted by Kady, but there must have been other opportunities.

I'll accept basically any answer to this, but I do think the funniest one is that - look, Eliot's tall, young, handsome, he's got a big dick, he's got good drugs, he's great at projecting confidence, so it's just been a really long time since he's actually had to ask someone, out loud, if they want to have sex with him (when that person is not already like, grinding on him at a club). He's out of practice! He's got stage-fright! He's flirting for all he's worth and making fuck-me eyes and like, what does Quentin want from him here??

More broadly, never gonna get over any obvious Hogwarts analogue that plays up the fatal academic backbiting and comical disregard for student safety and research ethics, and then treats those as, like, salient negative characteristics of the institution.
