I watched 'The Magicians' a couple of months ago and I'm only sad I didn't watch it sooner.

There are so many things I love about this show. The world building and atmosphere are so cool and unique. When watching I found myself wanting to escape into Fillory alongside them.

What I appreciated about this show is that wasn't afraid to go into some darker themes and twist the mystical elements into something much more horrifying.

* MILD SPOILERS*

Characters dynamics and relationships are the heart of any show, and other than the beautiful world created, that is what this show nails. I still think about episode 5 of season 3, 'A Life In The Day ', where Quentin and Eliot grow old together in their pursuit of creating the beauty of the world out of mosaic. Just the simplicity of the meaning, a life alongside another is what makes life beautiful.

Or the scene where Margot hallucinates Eliot singing 'Don't Get Me Wrong' by the Pretenders. I loved their friendship so much.

I think this is why the last season was lacking, because character dynamics were off and the heart was gone.

Overall I still loved this show so much !!! And I love you Hale Appleman 💜💜💜💜

Quentin Coldwater is insufferable

I'm rewatching the series since it's been a few years, and I don't remember Quentin being this insufferable. He gaslights Julia into thinking that magic isn't real after she didnt "pass" the entrance exam, and then once she discovers it is real, he has the nerve to judge her for being a Hedge Witch and "slumming it out with them" instead of just "growing up". But then, once he was about to get expelled, he was going to leave a super sad voicemail about how he understood how having magic taken away from you was devastating.

And then every time they talk, it seems like he views the fact that he got into Break Bills as something he can hold over her head, as if him being a mediocore magic student is something to brag about. He can barely do magic and doesn't have a discipline (as of where I'm at in my rewatch), so I'm wondering where he gets the audacity from? I feel like it's all fuelled by the fact that he's always been in love with Julia and is deeply jealous of her, so he's taking it out on her to make himself feel better. I don't know, but he just grates on my nerves.

can’t stop thinking about the scene where richard compares magic to drugs to julia when she’s in rehab. you steal it. you fight for it. you fuck for it.

but i even more can’t stop thinking about how that in comparison to the way that brakebills students and the way they act like it’s just high end drugs. easy to access, fun, lighthearted.

anyways just brakebills and hedge witches as a study on class and the way we talk about drugs
