in Brittany, the closed bed, or box bed, was a traditional piece of furniture, present in other European countries. In houses with only one room, the box bed allowed a certain intimacy and helped to keep warm during the winter. Due to fashion and the cost of their manufacture, box beds were gradually abandoned in the 19th and 20th centuries.

This is the type of bed in Heathcliff and Cathy's childhood bedroom in Wuthering Heights. This is where they slept side-by-side as children, from roughly age 6 to age 12, shut away from the world except for the window inside, which looks out onto the moors. What better symbol of their insular, "us against the world" bond?
This is where Lockwood is sleeping when he dreams of Cathy's ghost at the window, this is where Nelly finds Heathcliff lying dead, and it's implied in the end that Heathcliff and Cathy's ghosts still haunt this bed sometimes, since Joseph sees their faces looking out from the window that's built into it.
i learned of “Box beds” – cabinets with beds in them and, sometimes, lockable doors – were used for privacy and safety in parts of rural medieval Europe before individual bedrooms were common. They became fashionable even in homes with bedrooms and remained in use in Scotland into the 1900s (x)

The Cozy Craft of the Box Bed: A Warm Haven in Cold European Winters
In the cold winters of northern Europe, heating homes was a significant challenge. Then, an ingenious yet forgotten craftsman created a unique solution: the box bed. Almost like a closet, these beds provided a warm hideaway from the night’s biting cold, especially after the family fire had dwindled to its last embers.
These box beds, real masterpieces of woodworking, often featured one or two compartments. They originated in the late medieval period and became a staple throughout Europe. Examples of these snug beds can be found in Britain, Scotland, Austria, the Netherlands, and Scandinavia. Remarkably, in some places, they were used until the 20th century.
The persistence of the box bed makes sense when you consider the severe European winters and the fact that houses were often heated solely by a wood fire. Before the advent of electricity, homes were generally much colder inside, reflecting the chilly conditions outside.
These beds were a testament to the resourcefulness of our ancestors, who found creative ways to stay warm and comfortable through the harshest of winters.

What's your opinion on purple™ mattresses?
No one is allowed to come for me about this take, got it? This a safe place for my personal opinion which I was just asked for. Okay? If you disagree just move along. If you love your Purple I’m not saying that’s wrong.
So. I personally really dislike Purple. It’s not just Purple but they were one of the first bed in a box, for which they have much to answer for. Their catchy branding opened up a new type of mattress market. But making a bed cheap enough to roll up like that and still meet fire standard plus providing back support is just a unicorn.
As I previously mentioned I don’t think beds in boxes can provide good long term back support. But the target demographic of broke 20 somethings is robust enough to deal with the lack of back support for a while based on their general vitality.
However a huge part of my clientele when I sold beds were people returning their bed in a box, most frequently Purple, who had horrible experiences. So I’ll admit I got an extremely biased view of them from that standpoint.
But the really shady thing is that Purple won’t disclose their fire retardant. See, mattresses in the US (and many place internationally I think?) have to adhere to fire safety protocols. Why? Because before that was a thing beds would go up like bombs and were considered extremely dangerous in the event of a fire.
Most major bed brands use like Kevlar fibers. There’s chemical treatments that can work too and some folks get pretty worked up about it. The fact is that cheap mattresses basically always have a really dicey flame retardant which brings us to-
Fiberglass! Now, Purple, along with a ton of other bed in boxes, has had a slough of customers pissed off because they’d taken off the cover and suddenly all their stuff including bodies were covered in fiberglass. It honestly makes sense because they have to use something and at the price point it has to be cheap.
Now, Purple swears up and down that it doesn’t use fiberglass but really damningly they don’t say what they do use. A reputable company will just say what their flame retardant is because it’s common enough that consumers want to know.
Their insistence that it isn’t fiberglass while silent about its actual nature is highly suspect. I expect it’s either a thing so close to fiberglass that branding is the only thing keeping it separate or it’s a shady chemical they don’t want to divulge either.
TLDR: Not a brand I’d recommend.

One Bed Trope: Morning After Dialogue
-> feel free to edit as you see fit
"Get off of me."
"Is it weird I'm comfortable?"
"Jesus Christ how did we manage to fall asleep like this?"
"How the hell did you wrap your leg around me?"
"You've been laying on my arm all night and I can't feel it."
"I would've moved to the floor but you were using me as a pillow."
"I almost fist-fought you last night when you took the blanket."
"I have to pee so bad please get up."
"I don't think I'm going to be able to look you in the eyes after this."
"You snore. Loudly."
"I do not snore, you liar."
"We don't have to talk about it, just get dressed."
"It's too early for this, we'll talk about it later."
"I don't understand how I slept so good last night."
"Let's keep it professional, alright?"
"Don't get confused, I was only clinging to you because you stole the blanket and I had no other way to keep warm."
"We're not going to bring this up ever again, right?"
"I slept really good last night." "That makes one of us."
"My arm is still asleep."
"Did you know you talk in your sleep?"
"How did the blanket end up on the floor? No wonder I was freezing."
"Go back to sleep."
"You're the only source of warmth in this stupid hotel, come back to bed before I get hypothermia."

I know Chain can change the length of the chain but what’s the maximum range for it? I assume it can only go so far
he can extend it as much as he wants, but the longer it gets the more magic he needs so he can’t keep it for too long before it goes back to the OG length lol
Which makes stuff like sleeping really uncomfortable for them cause like, he can’t keep the chain long cause like, he’s asleep lol so they have no other choice than sleep close to each other which Key hates at first but they make it work lol
anyway I drew them sleeping, so here you can have this <:)
