one of my favourite little things about the murderbot diaries is how present all secunit's friends are even if they're not actually physically present. it doesn't do the annoying thing where it jumps through hoops to bring back characters that aren't really relevant to the narrative but it also doesn't do the other annoying thing where it pretends they never existed either. like secunit talks about art and mensah all the time even when art or mensah aren't in the book. it's clear how bharadwaj has impacted its personal growth even when she's literally on another planet. it complains about gurathin and pin-lee when they're not there. it's still sad about miki and don abene and it mentions tapan and maro and rami even though it only knew them for a few days (because when you're new at being a person every interaction with other people is important even if it's short). iris reminds it of mensah. iris also reminds it of ratthi. its hair is fluffy bc it let amena play hairdresser off-screen and it messages her so she knows it's okay. it doesn't have to worry about protecting volescu anymore because volescu retired thank goodness. it's still using thiago's language module. etc etc etc

it's such good writing because it's such a little thing that gives the characterization and relationships greater depth and also reinforces the running theme of friendship in the series and then also subtly gives this sense of 'the people you love are a part of you/your story' and also reinforces secunit's role as a storyteller because it's constantly telling little stories about all its friends.

at the risk of veering entirely off-canon, i had to at least try to put on paper that concept of dealer being a retired grim reaper (out of potentially many)

since god is dead, i like to think that nothing works anymore, making him out of a job.

i think the game isn't too far off from the position as a death entity, if that makes sense. same shit, different tools, only the unfortunate souls come willingly

#got inspired by all the mk ocs lately to revamp some of my ocs but I wasn't satisfied with any of them so I decided to just start new #with something familiar #she was gonna be strictly a swordblade kid but I'm a stone cold trans mkx Kenshi believer #so I decided to make her a kencageblade kid with her bio parents being johnny/kenshi #I don't know a lot about her yet...but she's able to move objects and stuff with her mind #and I'm thinking of dabbling a little bit with necromancy for her. like being able to summon spirits or SOMETHING liek that #she's a lot more like kenshi and sonya than Johnny but she's got his crass humor #Kenshi wasn't really there for her childhood . she was raised by Johnny and Sonya alongside Cassie . she's 2 years older #idk I'm number 1 believer that kenshi was always on no-contact missions and people wouldn't know if he was dead or not #BUT YEAH she's a girlfailure and very autistic and stinky and cool I love her a lot already #so technically kencageblade poly realness #I feel she gets along with Takeda with more nerd stuff and with Cassie moreso work and fighting but both are fun and cool to her!#some aspects of her outfit MAY change? not sure!#also i did NOT mean for her outfit to look so much like mk1 johnny's armour it was more inspired by raiden from MGS LMFAO #mkx #mk11 #mk fanart #mortal kombat community #kencageblade #johnshi #swordblade #mortal kombat oc: Kimiko Blade #mk oc #harvart

#ramblings of a lunatic #dc comics #damian wayne #dick grayson #ITS JUST NOT THE SAME MAN #idk i was reading nightwing must die (again...) bc i was in a funk and saw another post saying how fans exaggerate the closeness btwn them #and on the one hand i get it. there is a very rosy portrayal of their relationship you'll come across in fanon #and they weren't very close at the beginning of their relationship #but man. reading Nightwing must die again was like #YES they fight. damian instigates it and while dick tries to exercise patience he does fight back/lash out on occasion #but despite all that it's still emphasized how important the two are to each other #when dick is forced to picture a future where he's lost his way he pictures damian being the one to bring him back #not necessarily bc damian is his favorite person on the planet but bc he gave damian robin. for a lot of practical reasons-#-but also bc how far damians come is (i think at least based on this arc) a testament to dick that hes doing Something right #both as a hero/person #damian is more than just a burden saddled on him (although there's an element of that in their batman and robin run)#he's also a last remaining connection to bruce when he's gone (remembering where he comes from) AND he's training damian+#-his own way! with a dash of tough love and workaholic spirit inherited but also a lot of patience and focus on being More than the darkness #idc what ppl say nightwing must die makes sense for these two. its a retcon but one that works imo #that dick buried his head in the sand about how much damian meant/the responsibility he had to him bc it was a commitment he was afraid of #and how damian ultimately was a point of maturation for dick even if he went back to being Nightwing #they were SO goddamn close and now they're still close but only in ways that are implied #and their bond is deemphasized in comparison to each others bond w/ say bruce. which i think is a shame #it was a wrinkle! a fun wrinkle that the batfamily had that in some ways dick understood damian better than Bruce-#-even if he didn't feel like he could handle the responsibility of raising him full time #it kills me that bc of the n52 we never got the handover of the batman mantle (and damian) from dick to bruce #next nightwing writer...include a flashback to that moment AND have damian appear in the book in present....AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!!!#anyway. dick is damians brother but also damian a little bit imprinted on him like a baby duck and its rubbed off on dick #they're partners they're mentor mentee but most importantly they were batman and robin. and they were the greatest #NOT bc it was all peaches and roses but bc they cared for each other exponentially despite all that

since playing twilight princess again i cannot get behind the lu fandom characterization of twilight and wild i'm sorry. like i think twilight would be an overprotective big brother figure towards wild, absolutely. but wild doesn't take that sitting down. he doesn't like being coddled, and it's pretty clear (side note: i do really appreciate the analysis posts about wars and how hard he's been on wild potentially pushing wild closer and closer to a rather big memory. you can sort of see how twilight is not happy with how warriors is acting, but he's not saying anything right now. probably because it's not his place to, and also probably because wild wouldn't want him to right now).

i think that twilight and wild have a very different relationship to what most of the lu fandom thinks. they're close - that much is obvious from how they react when the other is hurt, and how twilight pushed through the rest to get to wild during the memories comic. but i think that a lot of the time, it feels like wild only exists around twilight, or he can't be left without twi otherwise he'll "do something stupid" or whatever. wild doesn't exactly appreciate twi's protectiveness or his advice all of the time, but he still looks up to twilight. despite whatever went down when they first met, wild worked to gain twi's trust in order for them to be so close. they're equals - just like the rest of the chain are equals. and yes, wild does a fair amount of dumb things and he's impulsive about it, but i would like to argue that twilight also does a fair amount of dumb things (in game and in comic)

(i think it also kinda feeds in to how wild is sort of infantilized by the fanbase. he's already not exactly trusted by the rest of the chain (legend especially, for some reason), and i think i'd like to explore that and how his relationship with legend formed. they seem to think he's sort of a loose cannon, especially after the previous arcs. wild hasn't seemed to realize it yet, but i do think something is coming, especially with him and warriors)

#linked universe #negative #its kind of why in my own half baked au i have the equivalents to those two kinda distant from each other #i mean they keep ending up in situations but they're not exactly close #(that and neither of them are super easy or quick to trust and roselia (botw/totk) never knew a wolf link)#i love their lu dynamic but i also think they should stand as their own characters yknow?#like twilight should be able to exist without wild present or being mentioned and vice versa #they both have a LOT of other interesting dynamics. i think twi's are more talked about honestly #they're all pretty close at this point with some exceptions. wild and warriors being one of them #(i also think that wild and time is another - my boy doesn't seem to do so well with authority)#anyways this isn't meant to take a dump on anyone's headcanons. mine just tend to be uh.... pretty different from the rest of you all #i've just been thinking about this and wild gets a LOT of heat from the fanbase for doing 'stupid' things #wild and hyrule i think get the most shit for it #(which i love their relationship too. they're very like-minded and spirited in a way the others don't fully understand)#(which makes sense considering that botw was heavily inspired by zelda 1)#(and early concept work for botw included a loz1 style demo? i think???)#anyways #delete later #<- maybe if this post gets the wrong sort of attention

thinking of peekaboo as a sliver of the locker wight is so interesting, bc it puts this entire interaction into a new perspective. peekaboo pulling dimitri into a spirit trance to play a game with it where he has to find it but its hiding in plain sight? choosing the same, childish game over and over? wow, that's sooo similar to what davy does with cryptide. peekaboo is lonely and doesn't have anyone to talk to if dimitri doesn't use its powers? wow, its almost like maybe the rest of it is locked in a dream or in a locker, unable to interact with others. didi will use powers lots? didi isn't mad at peekaboo anymore? hmmmm, its almost like it's heard someone say to their spirit companion something like "oh, i can't stay mad at you, my precious little cuddlefish!" before. and has maybe seen how great of friends they are and how often that person relies on their powers. maybe, bc it's lonely and has seen that person be such great friends with their spirit companion, it's jealous and wants that for itself

#reading back thru dimitri's peekaboo pages in ch8 and davy's cryptide page is like. ohhhh wow LOVE the parallels between you two #both of them met their spirit companions as children. both played w them when they were younger becoming friends.#both realized the potential of their spirits powers. pushing them beyond what they originally were to make them more powerful #(dimitri in the form of using it in new/exciting ways. making them his own and davy by making cryptide a grudge w powers w few limits)#both of them have to work to keep their spirit in check. keep them from going off. like a bomb #paranatural

My general headcanon is Rangi died early in life, aka in her 30s (which is why she's not mentioned in the other media, plus the angst is too good).

But the idea that Rangi WAS taught immortality by Kyoshi, and stayed alive because Yun/Father Glowworm were still alive in spirit form and are still fucking up the place. And Rangi (and Lao Ge) are the only people who know/can stop YunWorm from messing with reality and it's just been brainrotting in my head for the past few days and I wanted to share. (Rangi's also able to visit her GF in the spirit world. :3c cause it seems the Avatars just....hang out there? TT0TT)

In lieu of Stuff Your Kindle day, can we talk about the issue of how the m/m genre of books, romance or not, is almost entirely dominated by women? Can we talk about how the most recognisable gay couples in media are written by women? Can we talk about how queer men can't even write about ourselves, how we are only allowed to exist when it's from the point of view of a straight woman sexualising us?

Can we talk about that? Or am I going to get called misogynistic for pointing out the disparity between who gets the writing deals, & who gets their books turned into movies, & whose shit gets popular versus whose doesn't? Can we talk about how m/m fiction is only allowed when it appeals to a cishet gaze, or is that too much for tumblr to take?

Can we also talk about how trans queer men are even more hated by publishing? Can we talk about how we get shit from both sides? Can we talk about how books about the experiences of being a queer man, written by queer men, never get the same recognition as books written by women on this subject (barring academia which has its own problems)?
