Do not let the size of this book get you down! Once you pick up, the story and struggle of Zélie Adebola will keep you turning pages. The writing is fantastic  with just the right amount of pacing despite being such a large novel. But once I started, I felt that I was zooming through the novel much quicker than other long fantasy novels. Adeyemi weaves a beautiful prose which compliments such a vibrant world. The mystical magic system feels real at once point as it had once upon a time with another series of fantasy novels. All elements of Orisha are brought alive – with immaculate history, and the divide among maji/diviners vs. nobles raises genuine questions in my mind about the same thing still happening in the society. I started to relate to the different types of magic and by the end, as a by-thought, I wanted to know what kind of magic would I had possessed. ALL OF IT HAS ME HOOKED. I’m totally obsessed with this world and cannot wait to see it expand in the following novels. This book is worthy of every bit of hype it has received till now and even before publication. A highly recommended YA-Fantasy read, for all those who are still stuck to the previous worlds as well as for the ones who are willing to explore new ones.

I just realized that it's been ages since I posted an SoC post and whaaaaaat. 😧⁣ ⁣ I'm proud to say that my immortal love for this series has convinced three people to read this series, one who has already already finished it. I'm so conflicted? I want everyone who hasn't read the books to love it but? I don't know? Although considering the success rate of decent book to screen adaptations, I may be a teensy bit worried. I have not been getting any inspiration to write. Hence the break. But hopefully I will be more active from now on.

I read 10 books in July. Some were great, some were big disappointments. I participated in the @booksnbeyond monthly readathon and joined two book clubs.

My #Freyas2017UnboxingProject has been delayed​ and derailed 🙈 . The last two months have been busy and crazy but also so much fun. It's been a while since I've felt so elated and satisfied. I set out to create a box that dogs would enjoy as much as I was enjoying my book boxes and we've achieved it with the @HappyTailzBox. 🙏🙌💃 . But that has also meant that the boxes I have to unbox and review have piled up and somehow in all this melee I've missed booking a box for June. A secret admirer starts leaving notes for him in his locker, but what happens when those notes turn deadly and this admirer becomes his own personal stalker? 🦄🦄🦄 Jack of Hearts (And Other Parts) is a YA fictional novel by L.C. Rosen. I loved this book, not only for it's suspense, but also with the way the author directly deals with homophobic characters in the book. Jack and his friends are the most intense group of friends with Jack being the out, proud and doesn't care what anyone thinks one, Jenna who is always willing to stick up for her friends and Ben is the quirkiest one among them. I love Jack's mom. She's open minded and super chill about everything, at the same time she wants him to be safe but still is a typical parent who does weird stuff that embarrasses him a little. The inclusion of questions related to sex with Jack's answers is a brilliant idea because even though it's something everyonedoes, nobody wants talk about it. His columns talk about consent, practicing safe sex and how not to sleep with someone just so you can tick a box of your list. The actual ending to the book was a little underwhelming. Reading the synopsis I could imagine the plot as something I’ve read before many times: young child losing their parents at a young age, living a hard life throughout childhood till they grow up, motivated to become stronger and powerful in order to punish the people who’ve done them wrong. Sounds familiar? I also thought the same. But the only element that made me buy this book was the element of magic promised. 

Mura is filled with hatred ever since her father is accused of selling a book that brands him as a ‘heretic’ in the eye of the church. Little Mura has to let her father go and watch helplessly as the Inquisitory burns her house down along with all of her father’s books. From there she has no constant that she would call home. She found that the best way to deal with all the hate she received for being different than others was to not react and she filled her heart with hate. But she could never hate her beloved Mama whom she would meet only in her dreams and run with her through unknown woods. Mura never truly realizes the power of her androgyny till she comes across the Lioness. From here the story develops into an empowering of Mura, as a strong individual who is deadly when wielded but more threatening when out for revenge. Mura deals with the responsibilities that she didn’t ask for, all the while running with her Wolf Mother in her dreams and finding the truth about who she really is.
