Do you ever have people help you with your pics? 'First Day First Show' by Anupama Chopra has been one of my favourite reads ever since I first laid hands on it, as it reminds me of the time when a star could be out and about without bodyguards or SUVs or hordes of paparazzi. Basically when you could imagine them to be just-like-you enjoying sevpuri at the #Juhu beach stalls.⁣ The collection of articles and essays from Chopra's prolific career as a Bollywood Journalist, is a bittersweet reminder of the time when Bollywood reporting (or any reporting for that matter) was not sexist, nor easily-bought, and was actually intelligent. The introduction written by Shah Rukh Khan, sets the tone nicely reminding everyone that Anupama Chopra is more than just a Bollywood wife, and comes with an outsider's perspective that has been fair more than a few times over. ⁣ From there on, Chopra's writing transports you back to #synthwave soundtracks and frilly costumes so vividly, that I felt myself grow a #unibrow in enthusiasm. Her writing is peppered with insightful takes, whether it be about Sholay's opening weekend or Madhuri's magic matak, and honest opinion shines through the discourse. ⁣ 'First Day First Show' is the perfect read for that true-blue Bollywood Buff and the mildly-interested-but-not-committed admirer too. This was like Guardians Of The Galaxy meets The Walking Dead. Except everyone on the ship is human.

I'm a newbie to reading Sci-Fi and after the last 2 tragic DNF's (The Luminous Dead & Aurora Rising), I was starting to lose faith in the genre. But this..It kept me up all hours of the night reading!

I really enjoyed the alternating timelines and POV's. The last 30% of the book was an intense ride. I had the same adrenaline rush as when I watched Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

You know that annoying character in every slasher/horror flick, that you just wanna punch in the face? Well for me, that was her.

I'd have to say Thea and Coen were my favourite characters. I'm excited to see where they take us in the next book (Immunity).

Overall, I loved this story. It felt like I was watching a Blockbuster hit with everything I was looking for: great storyline and cast, action with a hint of flirtation.

If you enjoyed Illuminae and season 1 of The Walking Dead, then I think you'll enjoy this one!

What better time to post this than on Day 22 of the #prep_toberchallenge which is all about world building. A few weeks ago I sat down to doodle a map. I have no idea where it came from or what it'll turn into, this is of course only my first rough draft of the map. ---- However of course maps are only part of world building. I'm still playing around with political structures, time period influences, and trade routes. I saw a quote once, I can't remember who said it🙈, but it was that a world shouldn't be built for one person. While I'm still planning on having a multiple P.O.V story, I think this is so incredibly important. You want to follow a story through a world and that can't happen if the world only exists for the story you're reading. ---- Anyone else out there writing? Or prepping for NaNo? ✨ Do you read romance? . . 🫖 I don’t read romance only books very often. I’d rather have a book (fantasy or YA/NA contemporary), which also contains romance. I often think that the plot in romance novels is not very well developed or forced or sometimes even cliché with the whole ‘bad boy who suddenly wants the good girl who can’t resist even though he’s a jerk’ thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good bad boy or enemies to lovers trope but it has to make sense and have a good plot. I’d like to identify with the characters, their behaviour or the love story (no insta love please). . Second on my tbr is ‘The Problem with Forever’ so we’ll see if it’s a good romance. . .
