#qotd — Suggest me three of your favourite retro songs. It can be any song in any language. My most favourite chapters from Yeh Un Dinoñ ki Baat Hai include the first chapter of the book itself — Nargis's writeup on account of Meena Kumari's unfortunate demise. It requires immense courage to speak as well as to write down what is true. Well, as the quote goes in the movie Kill The Messenger, "Some things are too true to tell." However, Nargis went on to write one of the most astonishing articles ever witnessed by any film magazine. The mere concept of film magazines, nowadays, is to ignite interest within the audience about off-screen stories, secret affairs, and so on. Some are true, some are partly true, and some may be just exaggerations. But, Urdu film magazines up until the 90s brought forth to the audience what real people in the film industry thought about other real people. And, at a time when a woman's freedom was still under check, Nargis wrote about the broken family life Meena Kumari had to endure. As Nargis wrote, Meena looked for love, while partners came and went by. #qotd — What do you expect from a book box company? This question just crossed my mind today, and I was hoping to know your expectations from a book box company. To be honest, I have not yet bought any book box only because of one reason — the price is quite high. Call me broke or miserly, but I believe book boxes to be pretty expensive. The first book box I had known of was that of Fiction Crate (which was very cheap), whose unboxing videos I had seen on the YouTube channel of @thehellyblog , but that's extinct now. To look at book boxes selling off a couple of bookmarks, and one or two goodies, with a paperback, at INR 999 is not justified. #qotd — With political rivalry in the air, I've a question for you. What do you, as a citizen, demand from your own government? I, being an Indian college student, don't find much opportunities for literature students. It's disheartening to find that the humanities realm is almost restricted to Academics & Government Jobs. So, to bring forth more employment options for people from all kinds of educational backgrounds is something that should be deemed mandatory by governments, both central & state. We are supposed to be the youngest population between 2020-2025. But, if there aren't fair chances in the professional field for all, what's the point of having such a rich and energetic population? #qotd — Any sea-based story/film/song that you remember? OR, what does the ocean mean to you? The Old Man and the Sea is also a part of my syllabus, but I'll be studying it later this year. When it comes to seas and oceans, and tales woven around it, three names float in my mind — 1) Life of Pi by Yann Martel 2) The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge 3) The myths of the Ship of Theseus, and that of Odysseus/Ulysses. Seas, to me, symbolise the way of life. Sometimes calm, sometimes turbulent. #qotd — Which is that one story/novel/poem/(anything at all) you empathized with so much that it almost pushed you to the edge of weeping bitterly? It is one of the few moments for me when I actually fall for a work of literature prescribed by the university syllabi. "Dream Children : A Reverie" and "The Superannuated Man" are two of Charles Lamb's essays that I read, and which touched my heart. In a world where people are attracted to modern poems because of the bitter truth it presents in a fragmented verse, I an awestruck by Romantic poetry for conveying pain and moroseness through simplicity and occasional humour. No. I am no critic. But I have to say this; Lamb tells you things in such lucid and plain a manner that you won't be able to restrain yourself from empathizing with Lamb's alter ego, Elia. #qotd — Name one story (short story/novel/anything at all) that you'll never forget. My first experience with short stories was with those anthologies of Grandma's tales, that explored moral conduct in the society. One astonishing aspect of such stories is that these "moral stories" transcend geographical and temporal boundaries. Indeed, they often seem to be didactic; but these stories are, in the end, the products of the society we live in. Stories, after all, make who we are. Stories condition our behavior, thoughts, and reactions towards the works around us.
