Shirin, a teenage girl who goes to an American school is getting bullied for being a muslim girl who wears hijab. Her parents keep on moving from place to place which makes her stay alone with no friends. The people she meets are cruel to her and hurts her by their racist comments. This starts changing when her brother introduces her to the break dancing team. There's also a guy named Ocean who shares some classes with her. What started as a simple conversation has turned into a beautiful relationship between them. ✨ Shirin is my favorite. She has a world of her own. It's like she always has this invisible shield around her to defend her from getting hurt by the verbal attacks from this cruel world. The sufferings and heartbreaks she's to go through are painful. I love how she doesn't let this world define her or her life. ✨ This book has touched heart-rending topics which need to be addressed and make you feel sorry for the people's poor comprehension but it also has happy moments. The author also expresses the relationships better, be it about the family , the sister-brother relationship, first love, even Shirin's love for break dancing, music & fashion. I listened to the audiobook which is narrated by Priya. She's the appealing voice. It's given me all the feels. ✨ People only see what they want to see! The story is set after the 9/11 incident but I feel it's still fitting. When will this kind of prejudgement will ever stop? What we consider as a simple, casual comment could hurt a person deep enough that we wouldn't have thought it would. Well since I'm hitting milestones today, I thought I'd try something new. Wait, the weekend is already over?!?!⁣ ⁣ And here I was planning to be productive and maybe sorta clean my room. Featuring the most loved book in my possession and it's older than me! I recently realized that my page here direly lacks some HP love and well, we can't have that can we?⁣ 😙 ⁣ Just looking at this book has nostalgia hitting me in the face like Ron drops a club on the troll.⁣ Really really hard.⁣ 😂 Also with all the pics of the HP house editions and the HP illustrated editions floating around #Bookstagram I thought I'd slip in a first edition cover pic for all the feels. 😘 ⁣ If you guys are ready to hear something sappy and entirely too honest, here's a true story-- Once upon a time there lived a lonely little girl whose siblings lived far far away. Whenever they did visit, she'd find them on the ratty couch on the living room, too busy reading a book to play with her. One day after they were gone, the little girl wanted to see what the fuss was about, and picked up the book they left.⁣ That girl was never lonely again.⁣ ⁣ Huh. As far as uncomfortable baring of souls go, I'd rate that around the middling range. 😅 ⁣ So tell me your memories of your first book. Which was your first? I just realized that it's been ages since I posted an SoC post and whaaaaaat. 😧⁣ ⁣ I'm proud to say that my immortal love for this series has convinced three people to read this series, one who has already already finished it. And she's also sent me the requisite capital letter screaming and crying emojis at 2 in the night. 😂💃🏽⁣ Hey there @memoirsofasultana 😘 ⁣ The fact that SoC is being adapted into a TV series still blows my mind too. I'm so conflicted? I want everyone who hasn't read the books to love it but? I don't know? The books were here first, and I was here first, so I love it more asdfghhjkl. 😭⁣ ⁣ And here I call myself a decent writer. 😂⁣ ⁣ Really got my fingers croosed hoping it comes out well. Although considering the success rate of decent book to screen adaptations, I may be a teensy bit worried. The only onscreen adaptations I've ever felt do justice are To All The Boys I've Loved Before and PS I Love You. ⁣🤔 ⁣ What about you guys? Thoughts on the Grishaverse adaptation?
