what is your biggest bookish ick? by bookish ick i mean something that, if you read it in a book, you close it immediately and never open it again.

i will go first: the use of "growling" "purring" and other animalistic things to describe human noises and speech (unless it's a lunar special operative then i understand)

one of my biggest writing icks is when the writer spends so much time trying to communicate the plot that they forget to develop meaningful relationships between their characters. theres no improbably tender moments, no redemption for the damned, no metaphors, no laughs shared between enemies. after consuming the media you leave with a ton of information but with no affection or ability to relate. some of the moments that we feel most deeply don't affect the plot & may appear pointless. but somewhere in that seemingly familiar scene theres a piece of you - or someone that you love - being unburied for a moment to be healed.

I- for the authors out there who depereatly need to hear this...WE GET THAT THE FMC IS SHORT, okay? You do NOT have to mention it 500 times in every fucking chapter, WE GET IT, she is short, she is small, she is petite...PLEASE🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 idgaf how important that detail is, if you mention it more than one time, i'll understand that it's important, i'm not stupid yk? If you bring it up more than 5 times it's immediatley an ick for me. Like it's not even rep for short people or an important detail, at this point it's just disgraceful.

Real people on book covers I read books so I can escape reality I do not need reality on a book cover, thank you next. Examples: Daisy Jones & The Six, The Selection; Long chapters I have ADHD and long chapters make me loose attention and interest, long chapters make me feel disconnected and personally I think it usually adds unnecessary information. Examples: LOTR, The Secret History; Stickers and Fake Stickers Please stop ruining the cover and the book in general thank you. "It was all a dream' endings Horrible way of reminding me it was just a book thank you for making me cry out of anger. When people put tabs over a half an inch outside the book Please never do that, they will be ruined when you put the book back on your shelf, I understand you don't want to cover up text just cut it shorter. Using highlighters even if you know they leak trough the pages

If you do that stay away from me, at this point you're just ruining the book, just cut coloured tabs and stick them over text if you really want to highlight. Using weird words for genitalia Get the fuck out.

I haven’t interacted with the fandom for a bit, but now that I will go back to uni I can write and be more present. Completely stupid but I plan on habing more free time.

Muttering curses at me, he stands up supporting his weight on my bed, and closes the distance between us. He grabs the teapot and hands it to me.

“Make me my tea,” he demands.

“Of course, your Majesty,” I tease. “Anything else?”

“Go fuck yourself.”

I love writing them being friends and teasing and just being extremely comfortable around each other. It's a contrast on how Simon and Baz were horrible during their Watford years.
