Note: I talk about things in this post from a researcher's point of view, in a descriptive and comparative manner mostly. Just some observations.

I've already discussed a similar concept before - Idia, Jade, and Sebek representing Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus, the "Big Three" in Greek mythology, the most powerful and important gods of Olympus - during the Harveston event. See the post here.

However, in the Glorious Masquerade, the situation becomes even more peculiar because the SSR characters are dorm leaders - those who are in charge. And then there's Rollo, who is twisted from Frollo.

Note: I will consider all sources of inspiration for Rollo, including the book and the musical, which were confirmed by Yana herself to be inspirations for Rollo.

What? Why? Who?

3 vs 1. The Big Three of Greek Pantheon vs The One God, who embodies 3 in 1 - the Father, the Son and the Spirit.

The Big Three are the three most powerful gods among the Olympians - Zeus, Poseidon and Hades.

Zeus commands the sky, lightning, kingship and summon any weather conditions.

Poseidon manipulates water, storms and earthquakes.

Hades has dominion over the dead and undead, darkness, earth-related disasters, and metals and jewels.

*By the way, lightning was considered just Zeus throwing a temper tantrum, and what happened when Malleus got angry? Right, he started throwing  lightnings left and right.

And now we have Rollo. Twisted from Frollo, who, as we know was a religious man (especially in the book where he is a priest, not a minister).

And despite there being other characters, such as vice-president and the assistant, they aren't "real" or “important” characters like Rollo.

So we can say there is only one (1) main character in this event.

2. 7 Dorm Leaders vs 1 Head of the Council

As is well known, Ancient Greek mythology features many major gods, each controlling different aspects of life (or representing them, or serving as patrons). This makes Ancient Greek religion a polytheistic system - meaning it has multiple gods - akin to the Great Seven and the dorm system at NRC.

The Dorm Leader Council functions much like a small pantheon. Not to mention NRC is located on upper hills, which resembles a mountain (Olympus) if we look at the landscape of the Sage Island.

On the other hand, Christianity only has one God, making it monotheistic religion. There are multiple saints in Christianity, who are patrons of different aspects of life, however it is important to note that these saints do not control - they are more like the intercessors between man and God.

Even the NBC itself is focused on one Villain and has one statue in the yard, not the 7 (the "pantheon" of NRC). And NBC itself doesn't have Dorm system like NRC.

3. Oral vs Written

Greek religious tradition is primarily oral, with legends and stories passed down through generations by word of mouth.

In contrast, Christianity is predominantly a written religion, where the written canon holds great importance.

How is it important here?

Well, in this event specifically the NRC guys spend their time walking around and commenting on things. We learn some of their lore and thoughts on various topics through dialogue. Even Professor Trein reveals his past verbally telling about it. Naturally, it’s a game mechanism. But since we’re talking about such details….

On the other hand, the most important part of Rollo lore is found by the Big Three in written form - Rollo’s diary.  It's also noted how Rollo prefers writing above all else. He writes in his diary, sends letters, and drafts invitations. While this may not apply to the NBC in general, since we're focusing on Rollo, this detail is worth considering as well.

4. Our guys vs That One

Another difference between the two religions is that the Greek gods had flaws that made them more similar to humans. They had tempers and they often held grudges. This made the followers of the religion not want to be like them but, instead learn from them and their shortcomings, frequently through fear. 

In contrast to the flawed gods of Greek mythology, Jesus is portrayed as a man who is to be aspired to, more so than the Greek portrayal of a god; who the audience learns from (imitating in a way), rather than obeys.

Our NRC boys are someone we know and who we’re familiar with. We know their struggles and fears, their dark past. Even the guys in charge of each dorm - the Dorm Leaders - are not so distant from the regular students. Well, more of less.

Whereas Rollo is described by all the characters we’ve met at NBC (and even from his vignette) as someone who is amazing, excellent, wonderful and so…exemplementry. Rollo, at the same time, distances himself from everyone.

5. Vertical vs Horizontal

A small but interesting observation is that many monotheistic religions, including Christianity, often have a “vertical mindset” - symbolizing a relationship between the human and God.

In Christian cosmology, we often imagine a vertical world structure: Hell at the bottom, the human realm in the middle, and Heaven above.

In this event, we also experience vertical movement when things get serious. Initially, when it's peaceful and fun, we mostly walk around the town (mostly horizontal, not including the lower parts).

However, when the action begins, Rollo first sends us downward into the sewers. From there, we start moving upward. The ascent of the tower is highly symbolic, as we are literally ascending towards the sky where Rollo awaits us (with his “judgment”)

 6. Masks

The whole masquerade theme is, of course, a nod to the cartoon and part of the game feature to get the characters to dress up.

But let’s remember that in Ancient Greece, masks played a significant role in theater, particularly in tragedies and comedies (twst features elements of both). In general, it is known that masks represent hidden nature, transformation, and more. 

Interestingly, only our NRC squad wears masks and costumes. We even encountered some Royal Sword Academy students, but they were not given costumes (again, a game feature, but still noteworthy).

On the other hand, there's Rollo, who isn't wearing a mask or even a costume. He doesn’t need to. He is who he is, with no need to transform into something else, as he represents the One, in our comparison here. 

What's even more interesting is that, despite not wearing a physical mask, Rollo is the one with ulterior motives in this event, and we only learn his true face later on. He metaphorically takes the mask off, even though he never wore one in the literal sense.

7. Catholic Guilt

The last but not least - Rollo's punishment, which, perhaps is the most fitting and cruel outcome for him. Rollo, after being defeated, expects harsh punishment because he is ruthless with himself and assumes others will treat him the same way. He failed and he expects to be punished. However our Big Three surprise him by concealing the truth and allowing others (the NBC mobs were the first to thank him for his bravery at the tower) to believe that Rollo was a hero. This situation forces Rollo into a state of internal torment, where he must live with the guilt of his actions while being praised for something he didn't truly do.

Rollo's punishment is psychological, forcing him to confront his guilt and shame in isolation. They choose leave him one on one with his Sin.

On the contrast, in Ancient Greek mythology punishments were often cruel and involved physical pain. One of the most popular example would be of course the myth about Prometheus, which, by the way involved Zeus.

And the way Big Three dealt with Rollo was truly cruel in its own way.

Everything's all fun and games until you're dragged into an even deeper slumber because a certain someone refuses to let you wake. Poor El is going through it, lol. Here's her Book Seven SSR card and groovy!

The idea was "what if Eleanora had an SSR card based on book seven" so boom!

Real!Eleanora is fast asleep on Malleus' throne because now that's he's Overblotted he has gone full Yandere, and due to Silver, Sebek, and Grim's interference she gets dragged into an even deeper slumber (the original dream was her at the Valley living with Malleus as his consort/queen, a dream he actively conjured for her) because like hell is Overblot!Mal is gonna let her wake up or let them take her from him. Silver panics and jumps after her, because there's a good chance they won't be able to snap Malleus out of it without Eleanora's help, and Grim and Sebek are holding onto him.

They end up so deep in the darkness that Eleanora believes she's Ellis- and that he was never abducted due to the Senate's intervention and was never cursed by Maleficent. It's Eleanora living Ellis' life if he did manage to get his happily ever after and successfully marry Maleficent. Malleus is no longer able to find Eleanora as she’s in a dream where he does not “exist” as it is memories of a time before she knew him, and this infuriates him.

I do plan on them falling in even deeper when El starts to become "aware" and they start witnessing not just Eleanora's memories as Ellis- the real Ellis- but Maleficent's as well, because of how long her consciousness was intertwined with Ellis/Eleanora's soul, and that's when they learn about how she had been cursed and her past lives. Very much the "they're transparent as they're witnessing real memories, instead of being inside an active dream" kinda thing.

...And then after waking her they wind up in Lilia's dream, lol.

General Lilia is gonna lose it because Ellis is still fresh in his memory because Maleficent died, like, only a hundred years ago, so he's gonna clock her as Ellis' reincarnation so fast. And Eleanora gets to find out about Meleanor and it's like. What. Mal's mom is named what. Ah, okay. Understood. Do not use the full name. Strictly "El" or "Ellie" whilst in this war. Mmhm.

Her attire is also incredibly suspicious. Oh boy. And Lilia can sense that Draconia magic on her because Malleus has her name. Drat. Even more sus.

Most of it was the VAs goofing around and talking about themselves, their characters, and/or current content in TWST. However!! We also got some exciting news—

Starting off, a preview of the next birthday series! It’s based on the Disney 100 suit designs. This line of cards is (tentatively) Platinum Jacket/Suit.

You know what that means??? 😭 Maybe we’ll finally know what Disney villains ambiguous characters like Jack are inspired by… (Addendum: the frames behind the characters may not actually show character inspo; it could just show the member of the Great Seven that corresponds to their respective dorm or demonstrate some other pattern entirely.)

Grim’s getting a Disney 100 limited SSR featuring Grim and Mickey :9 This SSR Grim will be coming sometime this October.

The next Halloween event will feature characters based on The Fox (aka Honest John) and Gideon from Pinocchio, so now I’m speculating maybe an Ortho SSR (since he’s the “puppet that became a real boy” in book 6). Oof, no Rollo I guess??

Seven Plus One Happy Haunts (An 800 Followers Thank You)

"NRC is having a culture festival?" You blurt out, immediately drawing the attention of everyone in your class. Normally this interruption would be met with a swift smack, but the thought doesn't even flicker across Crewel's mind much to the envy of your classmates. Instead, something similar to a stress headache seems to work it's way across his face as he takes a brief pause to breathe.

"I take it the Headmage has neglected to inform you of this?" He says it like a question, but really it sounds more like he is begging you to prove him wrong. "He was supposed to ask your permission."

"Permission for what?!" You try not to sound too panicked but that's difficult when Crewel's normal sternness re-emerges to silence Ace and Deuce's whispers.

"Sit!" He cracks his crop and returns to the black board. "And Yuu, once classes are done for the day, meet me back here. It will be much easier for me to explain things to you and Grim than sending you on a wild crow chase." Oh you don't like the sound of that at all. ~~~~ By the time classes are over, you are drooping under the weight of an entire school's worth of whispers and surprised you remember your way back to your Homeroom.

"Where's Grim?" Crewel asks, though he doesn't sound terribly worried. So it's bad news bad news.

"He decided to ditch me for Ace and Deuce and I didn't have the energy to chase him down, sorry." Your book bag drops with just as dramatic a thunk as you do.

"Let me make you a coffee, you are going to need some." Crewel sighs. "As you might be aware, culture festivals tend to involve things like booths and side show games."

"Typically they're run by the classes or clubs, right?" You aren't really liking where this is going.

"In anime and at normal schools yes. And if this had been any other year that would be the case for us too but someone-" the same tension headache from this morning reappears, "got the bright idea to suggest that we form groups by putting the entire student body into an ai generator of some sort to encourage team work or something like that."

"Oh." No wonder Crewel can't seem to tell the difference between the containers where he keeps the instant coffee packets and the wet wipes. "Are you ok? Is there anything I can do to help?"

"Very sweet of you to offer pup." He lets you take over the coffee and smiles gratefully when he sees you move to make him a tea. "But back to how this effects you, one of those groups got the bright idea to run a Haunted House, and the Headmage suggested they use Ramshackle for 'authenticity's sake' and generously offered them your assistance as well."

"Compared to some of the other things he's done I guess it could be worse?" Not that you are thrilled, your tone makes that clear. "I mean it's a haunted house, it could be fun. What is it you want me to help out with anyway?"

"That's what they've been arguing over." Crewel looks and sounds very, very tired as you finally notice the growing chatter of voices just outside the classroom door that is finally making an entrance alongside a very familiar face.

"I'm telling you, it makes the most sense for Yuu to help me!"

Hi YuuRei. How are you? Purely from a speculative standpoint, who do you think from Savanaclaw and Heartslabyul will get the special SSR for Book seven and why? I’m kind of curious to hear your thoughts. Do you think it is possible for more than one Heartslabyul member to get a card?

(Small Book 7 talk under the cut, no plot spoilers, but just in case!)

For Books 1 through 6 Twst's system was characters receiving special SSRs timed to the release of their dorm members being the focus of the story!

It is for this reason that I am fond of the theory that all characters will be receiving special SSRs! ^^

Another point in favor of this theory is the new titles that have been released within the game, for players to earn by collecting 10 different cards of the same character.

Ortho's new title is "Guardian of the Underworld," Lilia's is "Seeker of the Cradle," Sebek's is "Knight of Lightning," Rook's is "Hunter of Love" and Kalim's is "Renowned Ruler of the Oasis."

And anyone who has completed the story through Book 7-9 can tell you that that is a little on the nose to be a coincidence 👀

And the characters who have received new titles are: all of them! ^^

Covered in an earlier ask, this also poses the question: is Ace being set up as the "trump card" of the entire game, which was hinted at in both his dorm uniform card summon line and in his new title? 👀 (phrasing was changed on EN but is the same on JP)

Anything is possible! ^^

There are of course counterarguments, such as where are Malleus' "Lord of the Abyss," Silver's "Knight of Dreams," Idia's "King of the Underworld" and Epel's "Enduring Poison Apple"?

I have seen plot-relevant explanations for Malleus', Silver's and Idia's missing cards, and when it comes to Epel, there are theories that maybe some of the characters being skipped in Book 7 might be getting their cards during whatever comes next? 👀 Or maybe Epel will be returning in 7! ^^ We do not know!

To the original question, the Savanaclaw/Heartslabyul titles are as follows!

If the popular "new dorm series" theory is correct then we will likely be seeing the remaining six characters sooner or later, with the only question being the order in which they will appear ^^ Exciting!

Rook, Kalim, Ortho and Lilia all had a strong influence on their respective dorm members overblotting (Silver was technically the catalyst for Malleus, but his card branches off into another theory), so if we would like to make an assumption based on that pattern perhaps Ruggie and Trey will be coming first? :> But it is anyone's guess!

In Atlas' perfect book seven dream the gods do not exist. His eyes are normal, and he has a perfect two. He has no need to fight, and no power of prophecy. He has Jade's hand to hold, his family all lives, there is no torment from Python.

Silver tries to coax him out, but in the end its Prom who forces him to wake up. Prom, who was trapped in the same dream, but who knew it was a lie. Prom, who makes him see the truth.

There is no ssr card for Atlas. To wake up, he doesn't just have to realize it's a dream.

And so Atlas gouges an eye out yet again.

Hello! Sorry to bother you! If you have the time or the ability do you think you could compile a post of all the new info we’ve gotten for Lilia in Ch. 7 so far? I’ve been trying to find spoilers online but it’s super hard and far between. If you can’t totally cool I don’t want to be a bother I hope you’re having a lovely day/night!

Okay, let me try my best here for you, anon! (and timely question too, since we're all on pins and needles waiting for Lilia's dorm ssr and the second part of chapter 7 to drop like a brick on us all :'))

While I don't play jp twst myself (f2p en player ; u ;), this post does a good job of highlighting key aspects of chapter 7's first release, especially in relation to Lilia. I'd read through the related tagged posts on that blog too if you'd like to see some of the fan theories and discussions that were raised after the first part dropped! But I'll go ahead and list what I thought were key spoilers below as a quick guide for you— let me know if you have any questions about particular spoilers!

CHAPTER SEVEN SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT: (Lilia-centric)

My key takeaways were the fact that we now know that Lilia's planning to drop out of NRC within the week, he's not staying to plan his fourth-year internship. His magic has been weakening even before Silver's birth, and he's leaving the cottage and everything in it behind to Silver as he plans to leave the country and retire far away. THIS IS LIKE, IMMENIENT. HE TAKES SILVER AND SEBEK TO START PACKING HIS SHIT UP RIGHT AWAY. DO NOT (OR DO) GET ME STARTED ON HOW UPSET I AM ABOUT THIS.

(Understandably, Malleus is incredibly upset and starts the overblot process immediately. It's only part one at this point, NO OTHER DORM HAS THE DRAMATICS OF DIASOMNIA.)

While packing, we learn that he has a weapon that he brought with him to NRC (the post referenced in the link above contains an image), and that weapon was made out of a special magical material that changes shape based on the wielder's magical ability. We also learn that he was safekeeping a ring that belonged to Silver (or at least was found with him) that hints that Silver may be some kind of royalty or nobility as the ring is in the shape of a crown and matches the color of his eyes (again, the link above contains an image of the ring). Silver instantly gets sleepy when he touches it so in my book, FUCK that cursed ring. Additionally, Lilia has this acorn bracelet he's been treasuring for ages and he says it is one of his most precious possessions (just my theory: Silver made it for him as a child and has forgotten about it).

We also get a flashback courtesy of Malleus which confirms that Lilia had long hair as a guard back in the day, and that Lilia was the person closest to Malleus growing up as he wasn't afraid to approach the young prince when he was upset and provide an opportunity for Malleus to gain life lessons from his tantrums.

Guess who's finally catching up on Book Seven??? (Even though it still isn't finished yet... uuuuuuurghhhhhhh.) Anyways, fully expect an updated version of Once Upon A Tragedy sometime soon. Lilia gonna be getting some more screentime, lol. I just finished chapter three, so, like, four left to go! Huzzah.

I miss Malleus... T_T and the Dia-fam.

Have a rough draft! Because I'm too tired to outline right now... I'll do it tomorrow. Maybe. I don't have the brain at the moment. But basically the idea was "what if Eleanora had an SSR card based on book seven" so boom! Eleanora fast asleep on Malleus' throne because now that's he's Overblotted he has gone full Yandere, and Eleanora trapped within a dream, all the events twisted so Ellis was never abducted and Maleficent never cursed him. So it's Eleanora living Ellis' life if he did manage to get his happily ever after.

Honestly contemplating if the Ellis dream is a result of Silver and Sebek breaking into Eleanora's original dream where she's with Malleus at Ramshackle, and they dive into the darkness chasing after her because like hell Overblot!Mal is gonna let her wake up or let them take her from him, but they can't risk losing El because she might be the only one who can snap Mal out of the Overblot, and she has the most experience out of them all when it comes to yanking the Blotter away from the Ink Monster, and so the boys and Grim wind up in, like, the deepest parts of her mind where they learn of her past life as Ellis. Sebek is gonna lose it.

And then they wind up in Lilia's dream afterwards and General Lilia is gonna lose it because Ellis is still fresh in his memory because Maleficent died, like, only a hundred years ago, so he's gonna clock her as Ellis' reincarnation so fast. Like Silver is pretty much Aurora's... grandbaby??? Great grandbaby? One of the two.

Anyways. I haven't gotten that far yet into the main story. So, it's still just an idea. BUT YEE. Who knows. I like it, I think it's fun, so I might do it anyway.

Current Lilia is 700, General Lilia is 300, so the Lilia that Ellis meets is around the 150s. So he's, like, fifteen/sixteen ish mentally and physically.

This is more of a game mechanic ask but what are your recommended stats to beating books 6 and 7 (including how many SSRs to SRs are preferred and how many times it should be uncapped) I recently got back into TWST after a 2 year hiatus of waiting for book 6 and I wonder what to do now since I'm basically trying to catch up

Welcome back to TWST!! … But unfortunately, you’ve come to the wrong place for super specific gameplay help 😅 I’m a casual player myself; I just slap together my tried and true “strong” teams and then brute force through battles. I found late book 7 battles to be pretty challenging, even with 30ish battle-viable SSRs (level 80 or higher, spells level 7+, and Buddies level 8) .

Here is what I’ve gathered from my own experiences:

How many SSRs + SRs you have and how much you’ve uncapped them actually does not matter that much. You could easily clear with a few OP SSRs early on. What is more important is how strong each individual card is, not what rarity they are. SRs and even Rs can be useful, given the right situation.

Of course, still try to get your cards to be as high level as you can! Minimum 60. You should also Groovy them! This will result in higher overall stats, as you do also get a boost after groovying.

Level up your spells. This may unlock additional effects (buffs, debuffs, etc.), stronger attacks or more hits, and DUO magic.

Increase your Buddy levels. These can actually make a significant difference in battle (especially at level 10), as they provide stat boosts to your team members.

For the love of the Seven, INVEST IN YOUR HEALERS (denoted by spells with a heart icon). You will encounter battles later where your health does not reset after every battle, meaning when your cards take enough damage they are no longer usable.

Don’t try to level up every single character; pick a handful and concentrate your resources on those ones. I would recommend looking at Riddle, Leona, Azul, Jamil, Vil, Rook, Epel, Sebek, and Silver, as those are the characters that the game will force you to take along with the others you hand select.

When composing your teams, make sure the characters you pick have good synergy with each other. Put characters who DUO together, and even better if they have high Buddy Levels with one another.

I would check out a more meta-focused blog if you’re looking for more detailed advice. I know that TWST Gameplay has done team and character comp recommendations before if provided with the list of cards an individual player has to work with. But if I recall correctly, they may not be offering that anymore. You could still always look at their archived posts and team comps recommended to other people though.

I know it's way too soon to think about this but now that Dorm Malleus has officially manifested I'm now left wondering the possible avenues the game would take in terms of SSRs being added to the pool. There's a line in Book 6 where Idia says this which is nagging at me.

Specifically the part where he says "with seven countries to start". I've wondered for a while if we were to get a timeskip but now I'm starting to think that's not as likely (although I still have hope). This does add onto the very clear fact that each chapter adds more world building than the last, however. The avenues I can see twst going post Diasomnia are with other schools like RSA and NBC, with the likes of Rollo because that dude is still mega popular.
