I'm this close to rewriting Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom with seventh character who is aroace and spends the whole plot being 7th wheel and is 100% done with whatever is happening in the lovelife of the rest.
Bunus points when they are quite hot, but totally obvious and unable to use their 'power' for anything.
Double bonus points if for some ungodly reason they are always in the background when the main love choices are made and when they finally realise what is happening it's too late for them to leave without noticing

“Ka~rin~-cha~n” A sleepy voice drawled as arms slid over her shoulders.
Karin blinked. “Lunch time already?”
The morning had flown by as Karin lost herself in administrative duties for the theater. Again. Thank goodness her girlfriends were on top of things as usual.
“Mmm…” Kanata hummed happily as she nuzzled her chin into Karin’s hair.
“Hope you’re hungry, Karin-chan.” Emma said.
“For Emma or Kanata’s cooking, always.” Karin confirmed.
Emma set containers on the desk while Karin did a quick check to make sure everything was saved and good to be left for a while. All the while Kanata nearly fell asleep still draped over the back of Karin’s chair.
Lunch today was a simple bento, but whoever made it had taken extra care to make it look cute. Given the style, Karin assumed it was Emma’s handywork. Conversation was light among the trio as they chatted about what they had done so far today at the theater. And then, all too soon, it was over.
Or so Karin thought.
“And now for Kanata-chan’s dessert…” Kanata said as she snapped the lid back on her box.
“I thought we just had…” Karin started.
“Not physical food.” Kanata grinned. “I meant my food. Dreams.”
Karin noticed Emma wheeling her chair around the desk to be next to her.
“In the middle of the workday?” Karin questioned.
“Just a quick daydream.” Kanata insisted, puffing into her sheep-like form and hopping across the desk before settling into Karin’s lap. “Just fifteen minutes. I’ll induce REM on us, so we don’t have to wait the entire sleep cycle.”
Karin hesitated for a moment, but when Emma scooted closer so she could lean against her and take her hand, she let out a soft sigh. “Alright.”

Karin’s entire world was blue.
Wasn’t it white the last time they did this shared dream thing?
“Kanata-chan, are we mermaids?” Emma asked.
Karin turned to see that her girlfriends had indeed swapped their legs for fish tails. And had traded their work clothes for more flowing outfits that seemed to dance along with the current and their movements. A quick scan of herself revealed she was the same.
“Eh heheh… Kanata-chan may have caught Chika-chan napping earlier and had a nice snack.” The somnophore admitted.
“So, what do we do as mermaids?” Karin asked.
“Anything we want!” Kanata replied cheerfully. “Float around in the currents. Hunt for pearls. Create a whirlpool. Sink a few ships. Enjoy a cup of hot cocoa under the Antarctic ice sheets. Explore forgotten shipwrecks. Picnic on the Great Barrier Reef. We can do all the things!”
Karin raised an eyebrow. “Sink ships? I thought that’s what sirens did, not mermaids.”
“We can be sirens instead if you want. I’ve dined on a few of You-chan’s dreams as well, so I have a good reference point.”
“Also, hot cocoa?”
“Or coffee if you prefer. Or any warm beverage to counter the subfreezing temperatures.”
Karin shook her head. “No, that’s not what I meant. How would you drink liquid from a cup under water?”
“The same way SpongeBob does!” Emma exclaimed.
“Exactly.” Kanata confirmed.
“Huh…” Karin shrugged.
“So, what do you wanna do, Karin-chan?”
“I’m fine with whatever you two want to do.”
“I vote for the picnic.” Emma decided. “The reef is supposed to have a bunch of pretty fish we can watch. And eels, and stingrays and sharks. Oh! Maybe there will some dolphins!”
“We can have as many dolphins as you want, Emma-chan.” Kanata assured.
“Yay!” Emma cheered.
“Is Karin-chan good with this?”
“Sure.” Karin confirmed. “Let’s do it.”
“Right.” Kanata made great show of twirling, spreading her arms, then snapping.
And the trio was surrounded by fish and coral. On a nearby patch of sand was a blanket. There, the women found a set of bento boxes.
“This is what we just ate.” Karin commented.
Kanata giggled. “I know. But Emma-chan’s cooking was really good.”
Both Karin and Emma laughed as well as they settled in to eat again and enjoy the scenery of their personal sea of daydreams.

Author's Note Continued: I may have been listening to a certain song in the days leading up to writing this, and may have been looking for an excuse to use the inspiration.
Anyway, I really enjoy writing somnophore Kanata and her dream adventures, both with her girlfriends, as well as with others at the theater. So many possibilities.

HP sucks. Here’s something better.
Before I say one word more here, I should point out that I am explicitly talking about tabletop RPGs here. Tracking HP is totally fine for console RPGs, tabletop war games, fighting games, etc. etc. When you’re playing a real mathy game or tracking things all over, fine. But for tabletop RPGs, it kinda sucks. In practice you get stuff like the “rocket tag” of D&D 3.x where you frequently just chop right through a monster before it gets to act (or vice versa), or a long slog of whittling something down, or the occasional Shadowrun thing which helps the pacing but makes things kinda samey. So let’s full on drop it.
What do we really want out of combat in a tabletop RPG, most of the time? We have a villain or a cool monster we want to give a chance to chew on some scenery. We want to give the PCs a chance to do cool stuff informed by all the stuff they have written on their sheet. We also want some tactical decision making/random clever plans on the table. We probably want to keep things quick and snappy enough that we aren’t here focused on just this one scene for a whole session or more. We want to spice things up by rolling some dice with stakes that matter. We probably don’t wanna go killing PCs. That’s a lot of assumptions I’m making, but that’s where I’m coming from with this... orphaned mechanic I personally can’t think of a situation I’ll likely use it unless somehow I get tapped to reinvent the wheel for like, 7th or 8th edition D&D a decade from now or something. Especially since I’m using D&D as a jumping off point here.
Let’s literally just slot this in where HP goes in D&D, for now, for argument’s sake. We roll a d20, we compare a bunch of math, and we either get a hit, a crit, or a miss. Now we want to roll some more dice to see how hurt something gets. Let’s make this a roll on a chart though, see how this plays out.
As I’m using D&D as a test case, let’s go all maximalist. Every monster has a chart for when that monster takes damage and when that monster damages a player.
We just hit a monster. We have a big range of numbers. The highest number on the chart is “the monster dies.” The next few below that mess the monster up in cool creative ways. You’re like hacking heads off a hydra or taking the arms off a shambling corpse or shoving something down a dragon’s throat or whatever. Stuff that’s fun to visualize and screws with the monster’s ability to fight back. Below that big splashy dramatic range, we have some results that describe some really solid hits that aren’t permanent disfiguring game changers, but they leave big dramatic scars and and give you bonuses on future damage table rolls. In the mid-range of the table, these are big bonuses tied to sending things reeling and setting it up to maybe get that killing blow next. Then the lowest end of the table the monster is kinda no-selling the attack so the bonuses to future damage rolls are like +1 or +2 BUT those bonuses apply for the rest of the combat.
So something like this:
11 or less- A solid blow across the chest. +1 on all future damage rolls.
12-15- Serious injury to the leg, +2 to all future damage rolls.
16-18- Knocked to the ground, +5 to all damage rolls until the end of your next turn.
19-20- Hack off a bit: Disable the next of these attacks each result, A B C D.
21-24- Some real gruesome thing, depends what tone we want for this game.
25+ Boom dead monster.
Now I’m pulling these numbers out fairly arbitrarily because I don’t want to fully design a whole game here, but for argument’s sake, let’s say our big tough fighter is rolling 2d6+str for damage here. The character who’s less fighty is doing like, 1d8+str and we maybe have a 3d4 sort of character or a big ol’ wild swinging d20 or something in the mix. And str for the record is like, a bonus of realistically 0-5 or so. And crits do something. Double dice or a flat bonus or maxed roll, whatever.
The way this math’s out, we are DEFINITELY not taking this thing down in the first round. Nobody should be capable of straight up rolling a 25. If we’ve got some real min-maxed characters and some fantastic rolls, we might knock the monster to the floor right away and do some real serious damage to it right off the bat between a couple people. If we don’t we’re going to spend a couple rounds with people being incapable of rolling over a 15, but that’s OK. Low rolls shift the whole range over. You have a mix of heavy hitters and ligh hitters, and they all have their own roll to play. Half the party just gets in there stabbing this monster in the back and hacking its legs to get it all winded, someone smacks it real hard to set up for a big splashy victory, then maybe the next person to act pulls that off, or they just hurt it real bad, it recovers a little, we keep whittling down for another round and try again. If you’re landing hits, you’re making a clear contribution. If you’re landing big hits, they’re splashy, modest, they’re practical.
We also have a damage chart for what the monster does when connecting. Here we want a lot less emphasis on stacking damage bonuses over time, but still probably a little of that. We probably don’t want full on death or tearing arms off on the table, and we can roll any Cool Monster Abilities right in here. Fighting a werewolf? OK, if it gets a high result on its damage roll, you totally got bit, you’re a werewolf now, deal with it. You’ve got your partially sucked out souls, your nasty poisons you need to go look for cures for, with more mundane monsters just your really distinctive facial scars you’re stuck with for the rest of your life. Lower damage rolls are like, sending you flying back to the wall or knocking stuff out of your hands or other things that are temporary setbacks and might change how you act the next round basically. We want the heroes to win.
If you want something like different classes rolling different dice for HP, or a constitution stat, OK, monsters have bonuses/penalties to their damage rolls accordingly. +10 on damage rolls to the squishy wizard, he’s getting all messed up. Big badass barbarian, she’s gonna shrug off everything and just get knocked around a lot.
This scales nicely too! PCs fight something that’s kind of out of their league, or that they should be curb-stomping? Want an extra elite miniboss monster? Just modify the damage rolls by the difference in their level vs. the monster’s CR. Fight’s inherently that much shorter or longer and more/less dramatic. Easy peasy.
You might notice though that as we aren’t really tracking long term damage, healing doesn’t really work in this system. That is a feature not a bug. Having the one person who just casts a heal spell on whoever got hurt last tends to really not be very fun for the healer. You can still have healing as a thing for more dramatic injuries and poisoning and curses and such after the fight, but, yeah no basic HP restore spell. System doesn’t need it. Have fun actually playing your character. Want a monster that regenerates though? That’s still easy to do. Every round they either regain use of some attack that got disabled or drop that stacking damage bonus back down some. Simple.
And again, this isn’t a system I’m personally super keen to implement because... either it’s an optional rule where I have to work out the damage math curves on some existing game play with numbers, and write charts for scores of different monsters, rework some character options, find a fix for how like, I had a Pathfinder character once who hit for like 2d4+512 damage on a good day, etc. OR I design and balance out a super crunchy maximalist new game from scratch and I frankly have too many other big projects on my plate right now. But, here, play with the idea. Try and maybe shoehorn it into your next game. Gimme feedback. Full on implement it and credit me for the idea. Whatever.

Hello!! ^^ Can you please tell me about the arcana game? Your opinions, what do you like, why, how does it function or whatever? I've seen many blogs playing it and I'm intrigued but also read things like is overpriced, wait for the books/chapters and you have to play everyone's route to understand the story or smth? At first I thought it was like the games 'choices' or 'episodes' but it looks like there's more to it. Thanks ^^
Oh goodness, where to begin.
It’s a fantasy, murder mystery, magical, romance visual novel. There are occasional themes of fantasy violence, mild nudity & suggestive scenes. 
The MC you play as is a magician apprentice who has no memory of 3 years prior. You’re trying to solve the murder of the Count.
Currently there are four characters that have a route (Asra The Magician, Nadia The Countess, Julian The Plague Doctor, and Muriel The Hermit). Asra, Nadia, & Julian’s stories are coming to a close. Muriel’s story has just started.
The story is divided by books (a total of 22 per character) & chapters within those books; some books have multiple chapters within them, some books have one chapter only. In order to read a chapter, you use a key. One key refreshes every 8 hours. Within chapters, you as the MC occasionally choose which dialogue/decision/action you want to make. These options do sometimes changes how later scenes occur. There are also extra scenes that require in-game currently (coins) to unlock. These coin scenes do not alter the plot in any way & are meant to elevate the story & offer a bit more romance or fun with the love interest; once you unlock one of these scenes it is forever unlocked to you. You can also purchase books with coins; if you do this, you will never again need keys to read that particular book for that particular love interest. By purchasing the book outright, you also automatically unlock all the coin scenes within that book.
Some character options also tip the scales toward one of the two separate endings available - Upright or Reversed. Upright End will be happier, Reversed End will be bittersweet. 
There is a daily log-in bonus. Every day you log in you receive 5 coins. On the 7th day, instead of coins, you win a tarot reading with one of the love interests.
There is also a wheel you can spin once daily. You can win either coins, or trinkets from the suitors. Collecting a certain number of trinkets allows you to unlock extra stories from the love interest characters’ (Asra, Nadia, & Julian) pasts that are just fun asides.
There is a mini game called Heart Hunter. Through this game you have the ability to earn coins and extra keys. The point of the game is to win 4 hearts from a love interest before the round is up. If you win, you earn a post card. By collecting a particular set of post cards you can unlock chests that give you coins and keys for the main story.
Each of the routes focuses on the same underlying story, but how the love interest & MC go about solving that story & what happens to them along the way are different for each route. Are there some facts & tidbits only made known in certain routes - yes. Are those extra facts & tidbits always necessary to know for the other routes you’re playing in to understand the story - no.
You’re able to jump around between suitors, books, & chapters all you like. 
There are CGs available to collect within the stories. Some are within coin scenes only, others are just made available as you read.
The game can be played entirely without spending any money, if you wish. (I’ll admit I’ve spent some money on it because I love this game so much & wanted to support the devs in what little way I could). If you decide to spend money to unlock these routes, yes it can be expensive to do so. Personally, I take advantage of the mini game and the daily log-ins to save up coins so I can unlock books for my favorite character. Players that are caught up with the story have the luxury of having time between book releases to save up coins for the next update. Players that jump into this game now, & binge the story, may find that yes the game appears to be expensive because there is nearly an entire route for three characters they want to unlock but they don’t have the in-game coins/keys for that. It takes time & patience to save up in-game currency to unlock what you want to unlock if you play as a free player, but it is possible.
The game is currently ongoing. The devs update it about once every month. As I said, three of the routes are coming to a close & a new character just had his first book released in January.
This is now my favorite visual novel game. I absolutely love the story. I adore all the characters (even the villains). The music is enchanting. The art & sprites are absolutely gorgeous & fantastic. & I love how complexly woven the story is & the scene changes that occur based on decisions I’ve made in past books. I have had more fun discussing this game (theories, headcanons, plot points, etc etc etc) with my friends than I have other games in the past. I do recommend this game if you’re interested in fascinating (& devastatingly beautiful) varying characters & a great story.

How to Make Your Own Goblin Slayer: Sword Maiden Edition
Previously, we used the Dungeons & Dragons character sheet as a guide to recreate Goblin Slayer from Goblin Slayer as a D&D character. it turned out that the show's world was so close to the game that transferring from the former to the latter was a surprisingly simple process with a few choices based on information exposited throughout the story and a couple of guesses when things didn't line up as cleanly.
However, all of the characters in Goblin Slayer live in the same world, so at the very least all of the adventureres and magic users should be almost as 1:1 to transfer from the show to the game. With that in mind, let's try the same process again, but with someone we know a little less about, or at least isn't quite as straightforward as Goblin Slayer.
Let's try to turn the Sword Maiden into a D&D character.
In many ways, she is actually much simpler to turn in to a Dungeons and Dragons character than Goblin Slayer. She doesn’t seem to have any armor, weapons or other equipment, at least that we’ve seen, and based on the abilities she’s shown, we can safely assume that she did not multiclass.
Unfortunately, she is significantly more difficult in one specific way, but we’ll get to that at the end.
Like with any D&D character, the first choices also have some of the biggest impact. What is Sword Maiden’s race, background and class? Race is still by far the easiest, since she is clearly a human.
Background is even trickier than with Goblin Slayer, because almost everything known about her past is in a single conversation in episode 7, and it tells us nothing to narrow down the options in the Player’s Handbook. Given that at the end of episode 1, Priestess mentions women attacked by goblins tend to go to monasteries to recover and lead different lives, we will assume an Acolyte background.
For her class, the two main options for clearly religious characters are Cleric and Paladin. Given the name ��Sword Priestess,” Paladin doesn’t seem like too poor of a choice, but a level 20 Paladin still only knows up to 5th-level magic. The one spell we know Sword Maiden has is Resurrection, which is a 7th-level spell. As a result, she is almost certainly a Cleric.
This adds an extra step to the early process, since Clerics are the only class whose subclass opens up at level 1. For Clerics, subclasses are called Divine Domains. There are a lot of Domains, 8 in total. Given the healing focus that we have seen in the main religion of the show, in all likelihood Sword Maiden is a Life Domain Cleric.
This immediately gives her Bless and Cure Wounds as spells that she has prepared at all times, proficiency with heavy armor, and the Disciple of Life trait, which makes her healing better (specifically, every time she heals, it adds another 2+the spell’s level HP).
As with D&D Goblin Slayer, D&D Sword Maiden’s stat block is going to use the standard block to start. This means that instead of rolling dice or buying stats with points, we automatically have 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 and need to assign them to stats. In the case of a Cleric, the highest stat should go to Wisdom, since it is what their magic will scale from for both damage and healing.
After that, which number goes to which stat is more dependent on how the player wants to roleplay the character. If Sword Maiden is extremely knowledgeable about religion and history, then it makes sense to have a higher number in Intelligence. If she is wielding a mace or a greatsword instead of a staff when in the field, she should probably have pretty high Strength. If she is built like the Player’s Handbook recommends for a quick start, then the second highest stat should be Constitution.
For this guide, I am choosing to make Sword Maiden be a pure magic caster built for healing and protecting the party, so her stats (from highest to lowest) are:
Wisdom: For damage and healing, as mentioned.
Constitution: To give a high HP total so that she can survive more hits.
Dexterity: So that she can dodge more incoming attacks.
Intelligence: Since Clerics so not cast with Intelligence, this adds nothing in combat. However, it increases her Religion, History and a few other skills that make for a more in-character roleplay. 
Charisma: This stat can go pretty much anywhere, but the others all had reasons to be placed where they are, leaving this one to take the remaining spot.
Strength: As a pure caster with good Dexterity, she should never be using a Strength-based weapon, and so this should be her lowest stat.
Remember, she also gets +1 to every stat because she’s a Human!
With her initial stats, class, background and race all decided, we need to determine Sword Maiden’s level. Given that she is one of the heroes that defeated the Demon Lord, which is directly stated as an example of what it would take to get the highest ranking in the guild, it’s probably safe to import her as a level 20 character.
As a level 20 character, she gets 5 Ability Score Improvements (10 additional points total) and her proficiency bonus is +6. Since D&D Sword Maiden is being built as a caster, it makes sense for 4 of the additional points to get to 20 Wisdom 3 for Constitution to get to 18 2 for Dexterity to get to 16 And the final point on Strength, to get the -1 modifier to a neutral 0.
Now that her level 20 stats are decided, all of the various skill bonus are almost ready to be filled in. The final step is to figure out what she is proficient in.
As mentioned when we decided that she was a Life Domain Cleric, she has proficiency with heavy armor. As a Cleric, she is also proficient in light and medium armor, shields, simple weapons, and Wisdom and Charisma saving throws. Her Acolyte background gives her proficiency in Insight and Religion, while being a Cleric adds 2 of the following: History, Medicine, Persuasion.
Since she seems to be a healer, Medicine makes sense, and History might be a better choice than Persuasion since she is an actual part of the local history by virtue of being a hero.
And with that, we can fill in all of Sword Maiden’s skills and saving throws, and can update her other proficiencies.
  As for her equipment, all we really ever see her owning or using is a staff and her robes, so we will give her the starting Cleric and Acolyte equipment, but if Goblin Slayer were an actual D&D game, she would likely have a significantly different inventory.
The Acolyte background gives: a holy symbol (a gift from when you entered the priesthood), a prayer book or prayer wheel, 5 sticks of incense, vestments, a set of common clothes and a pouch containing 15 gp.
Starting as a Cleric gives a mace, chain mail, a simple weapon (let’s go with a quarterstaff, since it most closely resembles the staff she has in the show), a priest’s pack, a shield and a holy symbol.
Why she has two holy symbols is up to the player--the starting equipment doesn’t give a choice for either of them, so you’re stuck with both until you sell one or something.
The Acolyte background also gives +2 languages of your choice, and being a human grants another. Like with Goblin Slayer, Sword Maiden has not shown any aptitude for speaking languages outside of Common, the language that everyone speaks, so which three other languages is also up to the player.
Since Sword Maiden is a level 20 character, there are 20 levels of abilities to get through, and the first one is a doozy: Channel Divinity.
To keep the explanation short, Channel Divinity is the Cleric directly channeling power from their god to do extra magic that doesn’t use a spell slot, but which has a limited number of uses. Some Channel Divinity effects are Domain-specific, while others can be used by every Cleric.
By level 20, Sword Maiden can use Channel Divinity 3 times per long rest (effectively per day).
The universal uses of Channel Divinity are:
Turn Undead, which essentially makes any undead within 30 feet of Sword Maiden make a Wisdom saving throw, and if they fail run away as fast as possible for a minute.
Destroy Undead, which instantly destroys any undead that fails its saving throw, up to a certain Challenge Rating (think of it as a power level) based on the caster’s level (for a level 20 character, CR 4 or lower is destroyed).
As a Life Domain Cleric, she also gets Preserve Life for her Channel Divinity, which allows her to heal any number of creatures within 30 feet of her up to a total of 5 times her Cleric level (at level 20, 100 HP split among however many creatures).
For the rest of the abilities granted by being a level 20 Cleric, Sword Maiden gets:
Blessed Healer: When you cast healing spells, you also gets healed for 2+the spell’s level.
Divine Strike: Once per your turn, when you hit a creature with an attack, you can add 2d8 radiant damage (1d8 when you first get this ability)
Divine Intervention, which lets the player do almost literally anything they want. As long as the request is within the character’s domain and the DM allows it, the player rolls a d100, and if they roll their Cleric level or lower, the request is granted. If they succeed, they can’t use Divine Intervention for an ingame week. If they fail, they can’t use it until the next day. At level 20, the roll automatically succeeds.
Supreme Healing: When healing creatures, instead of rolling dice, just use the maximum amount. So instead of healing for 3d8, heal 24 HP.
For her final trait, her Acolyte background gives her Shelter of the Faithful, which gives herand her party free healing and care and temples to the Supreme God, and the people at the temple will support her specifically at a modest lifestyle.
The last big hurdle of the first page is Sword Maiden’s personality. We don’t get much about what she personally believes, but we know enough to get a strong sense of justice and duty from her, likely indicating a Lawful Good alignment.
Since her personality isn’t as single-minded as Goblin Slayer’s, we will use the suggested personality trait tables in the Player’s Handbook.
For her personality, nothing fits very well with the show’s portrayal of Sword Maiden. The closest one is “I’ve enjoyed fine food, drink, and high society among my temple’s elite. Rough living grates on me.”
Based on her work as an Adventurer and her request for Goblin Slayer’s party, her ideal most closely matches “I always try to help those in need, no matter what the personal cost.”
Without knowing more of her backstory and thought process, her bond is probably either “Everything I do is for the common people” or “I will do anything to protect the temple where I served,” depending on her reasoning for fighting earlier in her life.
Finally, her flaw is the only part that we can make a fair inference on. Based on her conversation with Goblin Slayer post Resurrection, she seems to still be scared of goblins even after all she’s been through, hence why she requested the party in the first place.
With that, there are only a few stragglers in the middle remaining on the first page.
Unarmored Armor Class without a special ability is 10+Dexterity modifier, so D&D Sword Maiden’s AC is 13. Initiative is effectively just Dexterity modifier, so +3. Speed is unchanged from basic human walking speed, so 30.
HP is going to be somewhat dependent on when Constitution gets boosted, but it should end up somewhere around 157 with 0 temporary HP. Hit Dice should be 20d8.
Weapons probably don’t matter, since she probably wouldn’t even have any on her, but since her equipment says that she has a mace and a quarterstaff, we’ll put in their damages and hit bonuses for completion’s sake.
That is the end of page 1. Like with Goblin Slayer, page 2 is significantly quicker and easier. Unlike with Goblin Slayer, it’s not the end.
Starting with the banner at the top of the page: age. She killed the Demon Lord 10 years ago, so we will assume that she was probably in her prime at the time. If that was in her mid-20’s to give her time to build up skill and experience after becoming an adventurer, then she would be in her mid-30’s during the show.
As with Goblin Slayer, her exact height and weight aren’t explicitly known, but also likely aren’t needed for a game, so we will leave them blank. Hair: Blonde. Skin: Pale and scarred. Eyes: Clouded grey, based on the show.
  Allies and organizations: because we don’t know all of her past, this is a bit tricky. Obviously she is devoted to the Supreme God and associated religion, and she seems to have bonded with at least Goblin Slayer by the time the party leaves Water Town. Outside of that, things get fuzzy. She probably had friends, and she was almost certainly close to the other heroes that killed the Demon Lord with her, but it’s difficult to know for certain.
  Her backstory is also pretty vague. She was attacked and assaulted by goblins when she was young. She eventually became an adventurer, and was one of the heroes that killed the Demon Lord. Now, she is a figure held in high esteem due to her actions. That’s... pretty much all we have.
Since she lives in a temple and doesn’t go adventuring anymore, we will assume that she has no additional treasure worth mentioning on the Character Sheet, and so we will end page 2.
Thus begins page 3--what magic does the Sword Maiden know?
In the show, we have only ever seen Sword Maiden cast one spell, and even that was off-screen, so there isn’t much to extrapolate from. With that in mind, the spells she knows are largely up to how the player wants to play her. As mentioned when determining her stats, we are building her out as a pure caster focusing on healing and party defense.
As a Cleric, her Spellcasting Ability is Wisdom. With her stats, her Spell Save DC (8+proficiency+Wisdom modifier) is 19 and her Spell Attack Bonus (proficiency+Wisdom modifier) is 11.
At her level, she should also have should have 5 cantrips, a bunch of spells given by her Domain and 25 other spells prepared.
Cantrips -
Guidance: Helps the party get better rolls on their ability checks (such as Perception when trying to look for enemies).
Mending: Repairs an item. Not particularly thematic with Sword Maiden, but she gets 5 cantrips out of a possible 7 and the other two are Light and Thaumaturgy, a.k.a. a torch and yelling, but with magic.
Resistance: Helps the party succeed saving throws.
Sacred Flame: A damage-dealing cantrip, and one that does radiant damage, no less.
Spare the Dying: Basically a medical kit in spell form. It doesn’t heal any HP, but it stops people from dying.
  Spells from being a Life Domain Cleric -
Bless: It’s in the same category as Resistance and Guidance. It gives a boost to any attack roll or saving throw, although it works on 3 people at once without boosting it to a higher spell slot level.
Cure Wounds: The first true healing spell, and an absolute must have for any healer.
Lesser Restoration: The first debuff removal spell. Can vary between completely useless and life savingly invaluable, depending on the campaign.
Spiritual Weapon: An attack that not only does force damage (which is surprisingly rare), but also allows Clerics have have early access to multiattack, since the weapon can attack as the Cleric’s bonus action. 
Beacon of Hope: Gives advantage on Wisdom and Death saving throws, and makes all healing heal for max.
Revivify: If someone died in the last minute, they’re alive again with 1HP.
Death Ward: If the target of this spell would go to 0HP due to damage, they go to 1HP and this spell ends.
Guardian of Faith: A spectral guardian appears in a place you can see and attacks any hostile creature that moves near it for 20 damage. The guardian disappears after 8 hours or 60 damage.
Mass Cure Wounds: Mid-level healing! A point within 60 feet of you gets a 30-foot sphere around it. In that sphere, up to 6 creatures get healed. 
Raise Dead: Remember Revivify? This is Revivify, but better. Instead of a one-minute time limit on bringing someone back, it has a 10 day time limit and removes nonmagical poisons and diseases!
The other 25 spells -
Detect Evil and Good: You can tell if aberrations, celestials, elementals, fey, fiends or undead are within 30 feet of you, and you know if any ground in that range is magically consecrated or desecrated.
Guiding Bolt: Long range radiant damage, and on a hit gives advantage to the next attack against whatever you hit.
Healing Word: The first ranged healing spell (the one before this on the list is of a higher level, so is technically after). It’s weak, but 1HP is a lot more than 0HP.
Protection From Evil and Good: Creatures of the good and evil types (aberrations, celestials, and so on) have disadvantage to hit the target of this spell. The target also can’t be charmed, frightened or possessed by them, and has advantage on saving throws to break out if they already were.
Shield of Faith: +2AC to target
    Aid: Up to 3 allies within 30 feet of you get more HP.
Gentle Repose: Since Sword Maiden has Resurrection, it makes sense that she would have this spell, which effectively extends the timer that a corpse can be brought back to life.
Hold Person: While not directly helping to heal the party, this paralyzes an opponents, stopping them from doing damage.
Prayer of Healing: Up to 6 people within 30 feet of you get a chunk of healing.
    Dispel Magic: Very few things actively stop magic from happening. This spell not only could prevent the party from taking damage, but at level 20 it could stop almost literally anything magic-based.
Magic Circle: This is effectively a wall for a specific type of enemy (designated by the caster from a list of options). The designated enemies can’t normally get in and has disadvantage to hit things inside, if it somehow is in range to hit them, and can’t charm, frighten or possess them.
Mass Healing Word: It’s Healing Word, but better because it can have more targets.
Spirit Guardians: Sword Maiden has a lot of concentration spells, which means that getting hit is potentially even worse than people might think. This makes it significantly more difficult for melee enemies to get to her.
    Divination: Sword Maiden calls on the Supreme God to answer any 1 question.
    Dispel Evil and Good: Evil and Good creatures (the celestial, fey, fiend, and so on group) have disadvantage to hit Sword Maiden. Alternatively, a) break this spell early and break an ally out of being frightened, charmed, or possessed at the same time, or b) hit an Evil or Good creature, end the spell, and try to send the creature back to its home plane.
Greater Restoration: Like Restoration, but better. Instead of 1 disease, all diseases.
Hallow: Evil and Good creatures can’t pass through the spell, and the spell has no time limit, it lasts until it is dispelled. It has an insane 24-hour cast time, but it’s also possible to completely surround a building with magic circles that also have additional effects that are just passively in place.
    Blade Barrier: Slow down the enemies, make them take damage each turn, and give some kind of actual reason for the Sword Maiden to have her namesake.
Heal: As we get in to the high level spells, we can see the clear difference. Level 1 spell, heal about 5HP from 30 feet away. Level 6 spell, heal 70HP from 60 feet away.
Heroes’ Feast: Along with being thematically appropriate give that Sword Maiden and her group are called heroes, the spell makes people immune to poisons and diseases, gives advantage on Wisdom saving throws, and gives everyone temporary HP, which works as a buffer before getting to the character’s normal HP and more max HP for 24 hours.
Planar Ally: The Supreme God sends a celestial emissary to Sword Maiden to aid her on her quest.
    Resurrection: The one spell we have seen Sword Maiden use, and thus know that she has.
Conjure Celestial: In some ways weaker than Planar Ally, since the Ally is going to fight for you, while the Conjured being might want to strike a deal. However, since Sword Maiden can summon and promptly kill fiends and the like as well, the spell itself could’ve helped her to defeat the Demon Lord’s army.
    Holy Aura: Allies within 30 feet of you have advantage on all saving throws, and all attacks against them have disadvantage. Also, fiends and undead need to succeed a saving throw or be blinded whenever they attack.
    Mass Heal: It’s literally a 700HP heal split among anyone within 60 feet of the caster.

And with that, there is nothing left to do. The entire character sheet is completely filled out for Sword Maiden, and she is ready to begin giving quests or killing demons in any campaign.

Mar. 24, 2020 – Regardless of the hockey team one played, worked, or rooted for in 2019-20, it will be a season they’ll never forget. An abrupt end to the ECHL season cut down the Maine Mariners schedule to 62 games and took away what looked to be the first postseason appearance in franchise history. While we’ll never know how the 2019-20 season would have turned out in the end, the second season of Mariners hockey brought many exciting moments to the Cross Insurance Arena and the great hockey fans of Maine. Here are some significant moments that marked the shortened, but a memory-filled season that was. October 11th, 2019 vs. ADK: The Mariners open the season at home against the Adirondack Thunder, just as they did in their inaugural campaign. Unfortunately, history repeats itself and the Mariners suffered a 5-2 loss. Taylor Cammarata scores both Maine goals, attempting to bring them back from a 3-0 deficit late. October 19th, 2019 @ REA: The Mariners get their first win of the season, spoiling the Reading Royals home opener. Tom McCollum(who would ironically become a Royal later in the season), makes 44 saves, and the Mariners put up 5 goals in a 5-3 victory. This would turn out to be their lone win in Reading for the season. November 9th, 2019 vs. ADK: In front of the largest crowd of the season (4,588) on Military Appreciation Night, Jake Elmer nets the first of four Mariners hat tricks, leading the Mariners to a 5-1 win over Adirondack. November 11th, 2019 vs. REA: With Gritty in the building, the Mariners defeat the Reading Royals, 4-3 in overtime. Alex Kile scores the game-winning goal just 23 seconds into the extra period, his first goal of the season. Kile would prove to be a clutch OT player for the Mariners all season long. November 15th, 2019 vs. BRM: The Mariners honor NHL refereeing great, Maine Sports Hall of Fame inductee, and South Portland resident Wes McCauley, as they defeat the Brampton Beast, 6-3 despite letting a 3-0 lead slip away quickly late in the 2nd period. The win is the Mariners’ fourth in a row. November 26th, 2019 vs. WOR: After losing two of three in Norfolk, the Mariners return home before Thanksgiving to win a wild one in overtime, 5-4 in their first home meeting of the season with the Worcester Railers. Ryan Gropp scores two goals while Kile gets his second overtime winner in the span of 15 days. This turns out to be the final game for Railers head coach Jamie Russell, who is relieved of his duties the following day. December 6th, 2019 @ ADK: Jake Elmer registers his second hat trick against Adirondack in less than a month, capping it with the overtime winner to rescue the Mariners, who had blown a 4-1 lead. It was only Maine’s second-ever win at the Cool Insuring Arena but would turn out to be the start of a remarkable Mariners run in Glens Falls. December 7th, 2019 vs. ADK: Elmer continues his dominance of the Thunder, scoring the Teddy Bear Toss goal early, and adding his fifth goal of the weekend to later tie the game at 4 in the third period. Ty Ronning’s shorthanded goal is the game-winner and Elmer goes on to win ECHL Player of the Week honors. December 10th, 2019 vs. ADK: Francois Brassard makes his season debut and gets the win as Dillan Fox tips home a Brandon Crawley pass in the final minute of overtime to give the Mariners a 3-2 win and a three-game sweep of Adirondack. December 21st, 2019 @ ADK: The Mariners finish off back-to-back pre-Christmas 4-3 shootout wins in Adirondack when Taylor Cammarata scores in the fifth round to end it. Each game featured the Thunder tying it up late, but the Mariners getting the shootout bonus point. Maine goes into holiday break in sole possession of the fourth and final playoff spot in the North Division and a season-high four games above .500. January 3rd, 2020 vs. JAX: The Mariners and the Jacksonville IceMen meet for the first time ever, and Maine rallies from down 3-2 late in the 2nd to get a 5-3 win. Terrence Wallin’s first career hat trick leads the way as he scores one in each period, including the game-winner in the third. January 14th, 2020 vs. WOR: The Mariners snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over Worcester at home. Rookie forward Mikael Robidoux enters the scene, stirring up physical play and drawing the Railers into penalties, ultimately allowing the Mariners to score back-to-back power play goals late in the 3rd to flip the score in their favor. January 24th, 2020 vs. WOR: Returning from the All-Star break after playing eight games in ten days, the Mariners explode for a franchise-best eight goals – three by Ty Ronning. They score three goals in a 58-second span in the 2nd period to pull away. Adam Huska makes his Mariners debut in between the pipes and makes 43 saves. January 29th, 2020 @ ADK: The Mariners win yet again in Glens Falls 3-0, as Connor LaCouvee picks up his third shutout in a span of 10 starts and his second in a row. Their win two nights later makes it six consecutive road victories over Adirondack. The streak goes to seven with another win in mid-February. February 1st, 2020 vs. ADK: In a partnership with Agren and Make-A-Wish Maine, the Mariners wear jerseys designed by 11-year-old “Wish Kid” Ellie LaBree, and take down the Thunder, 3-2 in OT. Michael McNicholas scores the golden goal, which improves the franchise’s all-time “extra time” record to 20-3-2 (W-OTL-SOL). February 7th, 2020 vs. WOR: LaCouvee makes 45 stops to lead the Mariners to a season-high five wins in a row, squeezing out a 2-1 victory over Worcester. The streak ends the following night, with a 3-2 OT loss to Brampton, but the point streak gets to six. February 11th, 2020 vs. BRM: The Mariners salvage the last of a three-game home set with the Brampton Beast when Alex Kile gets his third OT winner of the season with less than a minute remaining. This would turn out to be the final win on home ice for the Mariners in 2019-20. February 14th, 2020 @ NFL: The Mariners are on the wrong side of some ECHL history when the Newfoundland Growlers win their 19th consecutive home game, 5-1. The Mariners fall to 0-5-0-0 all-time at Mile One Centre, but the best is yet to come. February 15th, 2020 @ NFL: Morgan Adams-Moisan scores a late power play goal to break a 1-1 tie and end the Growlers’ streak before it can reach 20. Francois Brassard gets his first of consecutive wins in between the pipes as the Mariners go on to take three in a row in St. John’s, becoming the first team to ever do so against the Growlers. February 26th, 2020 @ REA: The Royals crush the Mariners, 8-0, the largest margin of defeat in franchise history. The Mariners play the game with just four defensemen due to injuries and the last moment illness to captain Zach Tolkinen. February 28th, 2020 @ WHE: The franchise’s first trip to Wheeling marks a homecoming for Mariners Head Coach Riley Armstrong, who was an assistant for the Nailers from 2016-18. Terrence Wallin scores a pair – including the beneficiary of a Nailers' “own goal,” and Greg Chase scores the game-winner in the 3rd. This becomes Maine’s final victory of the season. March 10th, 2020 vs. NOR: The fateful final game of the season, unbeknownst to anyone. The Mariners battled back from a pair of one-goal deficits but Norfolk’s J.C. Campagna scores on a breakaway with 2:05 left to hand the Mariners a 3-2 loss. The final goal of the Mariners’ season belongs to Cumberland native, Ted Hart.
