Youâve been an adopted hobbit for the last 18 years of your life, Bilbo was always comforted in the known so when he brought you along with him and the dwarfs on their journey you were beyond surprised. Your presence was unexpected for everyone, except Gandalf of course, and most of the company was against your involvement. The dwarves saw you as frail and weak, the only one on your side was your dad, but of course he was.
Kili has kept an eye out for you since you joined the company, he makes sure you're safe and also just enjoys looking at you.
__________
When Elrond and his fellow elves come back the dwarves pull you and your father behind them and create a circle around you. You stay behind your Bilbo as the elves talk with Gandalf.
Upon your entrance to their dining room you look around with wonder, you sit down between Kili and your dad. âThey're so beautiful,â you whisper to Bilbo, he nods with a gentle but awkward smile. Kiliâs ears twitch as he looks around, his eyes narrow on an elf who has his eyes on you, he moves closer to you wrapping his arm around you.
âYou think so?â Kili questions, his jaw clenching slightly, âI think us dwarves are better looking, stronger too.â he says pridefully, you chuckle in response.
âIs it a competition now?â you cock your head, âYouâre very good looking too, Kili.â he smiles wide.
âIs that so? I am the best looking of all of the company, aside from Thorin of course.â you laugh, putting your hand on his arm.
âA bit full of yourself huh?â he shoves your shoulder gently in response. Kilis arms finds its way around your waist as he continues to glare at the elf who dared to look at you, who did he even think he was.
Gandalf, Bilbo, and Thorin wander off with Lord Elrond, leaving you with the dwarfs. You watch quietly, laughing with them and listening to their conversations before you feel yourself drifting off to sleep. Kili quietly sits next to you letting your head fall to his shoulder he smiles, covering you up with a blanket.
__________
After the company left the palace Thorin led everyone to the Misty Mountains, Kili keeps you in front of him. He insists that itâs better that way so if you fall he can catch you. As the rain picks up your feet slip under you, Kili and Fili grasp your arms quickly, pulling you back onto the ledge.
âThank you,â you say softly as your eyes look over the ledge. Kili keeps a hold of your arm tightly as you all try to avoid the stone giant's blasts. The ground splits under your feet as the mountain takes shape as a giant, you grab onto the stone behind you before everyone begins to slide forward.
The stone giant slams into the mountain, throwing everyone off of it and onto the ground. Thorin yells for his nephews as the rest of the company runs over, Kili helps you up dusting your clothes off and checking to make sure you werenât hurt anywhere.
After all the commotion everyone settles into the cave, Bilbo pulls you off to the side and quietly talks to you, he tells you about his plan to leave once everyone is asleep. âWhy dad? What's wrong?â you whisper to him.
âThorin is right, we never should've left home, Iâve put you in danger and I canât let anything else happen to you.â he sighs as he runs his hand through your hair, âItâs okay, weâll be fine.â he smiles reassuringly.
You both gather all of your stuff and sneak out, he leads you by the hand. He pulls you behind him as he talks with Bofur, you stay quiet looking around the cave. You didnât really want to leave the company, I mean they were becoming your friends, you enjoyed the company.
âY/N?â Kili mumbles as he looks up at you, he yawns. âWhere are you going?â You crouch down putting your hand on his shoulder.
âGo back to sleep Kili, you need your rest,â you smile sweetly.
The floor splits and you slip down with everyone, Bilbo gets away but you are guided off with the dwarves. Your eyes fill with terror as you look around, you take a hold of Kilis hand squeezing tight as the goblins push you all around. You cower behind him, holding onto his shirt tightly.
Once you get out the dwarves all argue over where your dad went, your head drops as you think that your dad couldn't possibly have left you all alone. He reappears and you rush over to hug him, his hands drop to your waist as he smiles.
âY/N!â Kili and Bilbo yell at you as you try to defend the dwarves with your small blade; it goes into the center of the wargs head, and Kili grabs you and pulls you up to the tree with him. His hand wrapping around your waist as he holds you close.
âDonât move,â Kiliâs voice is angry as he demands you to stay put. His hands dig into your slides as you look below your feet. Kiliâs hands slip away as they start to throw the pinecones, the tree begins to fall, you grasp onto the trunk as tight as you can. His hands wrap around the tree, his eyes focused on you.
As Thorin and your father begin to fight the orcs, your eyes squeeze shut tightly, you try to focus on anything but the attack of Thorin. Kili pulls you up and onto the ground, insisting you stay put as they go to fight. You look forward, clutching the blade you retrieved from the corpse tight. As all of the commotion ensues you feel yourself being picked up by an eagle.
Once you all are in a safe place you watch as Gandalf helps heal Thorin. You stand next to your dad, holding onto his arm, as Thorin goes in for a hug you let go of him and move back. Your eyes wander to Kili who turns his head in order to avoid eye contact with you.
As the company moves forward you come across an area close to a river, Gandalf suggests that you all take a break and bathe. You and Kili were the last to go, you were paired up at the recommendation of Fili.
Kili guides you to the river, holding his weapon close to his chest, heâs been giving you the silent treatment after you got in between a fight. âYou can bathe here, Iâll keep watch.â his voice stern.
âKili..â your voice trails off as you look at his back, trying to pull his attention to you.
âY/N, just take your bath. Itâs getting dark.â Kiliâs tone is extremely cold. You pout your lips as you begin pulling your clothing off slowly, once you finish you slip into the cold water.
âYou can turn back now,â you say softly before you dip all the way under the water, holding your breath and squeezing your eyes shut. After a while you break the surface of the water sliding your hands over your face pulling the water back with your hair. Kili had turned around keeping his eyes on everything but you.
âKili,â you wave him over, âcome here, please.â you bite your lip as he gives you a bored expression.
âWhat is it?â he walks close to the bank of the river, his eyes scanning your face.
âShouldnât you join me? You're supposed to bathe as well,â he sighs, turning his back to you again.
âFine, turn away.â he sets down his sword and strips quickly. You face the other way as he slips into the water with you.
âKili, what is your problem?â you huff, spinning around with your arms crossed over your breasts.
âWhat do you mean?â his eyes are half closed as he looks at you with a slightly annoyed expression.
You move closer to him, âI mean, youâre acting so rude for no reason. You wonât look at me, you barely talk to me, youâre being so dumbâ you glare at him, âSo what is your problem?â he rolls his eyes at you.
âI donât know maybe the fact that you threw yourself into harm's way? You couldâve gotten yourself killed,â he yells at you while running his hand through his hair.
âCalm down Kili,â you move close to him, putting your hand on his arm. âI didnât expect you to get all worked up like this, I know I should have been more careful but I just wanted to help.â your eyebrows furrow as you look down.
His warm hands grasp your upper arms âYou really worried me Y/N,â he presses his forehead against yours.
âYou worried about me?â a sly smile paints itself on your lips, âdoes that mean you like me Kili?â your voice is soft and teasing. His ears turn a deep shade of crimson as he turns his head up.
âY/N cut that out,â he puts his hand on the side of your neck, his eyes flick to your lips.
âCut what out?â you wrap your arms around his neck pulling yourself close to him.
âYou know what,â he clenches his jaw, your hands running down his back as you wrap your legs around his hips.
Kili pulls your face to his, hovering his lips over yours âQuit teasing me,â he whispers. Your hand snakes up to the back of his head, cradling it as you push your lips against his. His hands move to your waist, his fingers dig into your soft flesh as he hugs you tighter against him.
âMahal,â he pulls away, pressing soft kisses down your face and onto your neck. You lean back letting his lips trail over your body, your nails scratch his scalp softly as you arch into him.
âAmrĂąlimĂȘ,â he whispers against your collarbone, âyouâre driving me insane,â Kili groans. He grasps your face pulling you in for an intimate kiss, heâs getting more intense with his affections, his hands squeezing your hips roughly.
Your hand trails down his chest tracing every muscle on his stomach, he begins grinding against you while holding your hips against him. Pulling away from the kiss you gasp for air, leaning your head against his shoulder, you wrap your hands in his hair pulling it off to the side. Kissing his neck roughly you begin to leave soft marks on his flesh as he massages your ass.
âY/N..â he mumbles into your ear, you moan softly as he picks you up, moving into shallow water. âCan we..?â his ears flush as he looks away, âI mean, would you mind?â you chuckle softly.
âMhm,â you move your hips against his thigh, feeling him twitch underneath you. âBut weâll have to be quick..â you kiss his shoulder as his hands pull your hips up, he lines himself up with your hole, pushing the tip in.
âLet me know if it hurts,â he says gently, his hand finding its way to your neck grabbing ahold of it pulling your head back as you moan softly. He bucks his hips up into you, leaning forward you bury your face into his nape hugging him tight as you moan into his skin.
âMy precious girl,â he groans as he slowly begins moving your hips up and down, his fingers digging into your soft skin, leaving red marks. You moan into his ear as you begin riding him, your arms wrap tight around his neck, eyebrows furrowing as you squeeze around his dick.
Kili cradles your head against him, holding you as close as he can, thrusting up into you pushing as deep as he can. Your head falls onto his shoulder, he moves a hand down to your sensitive clit, rubbing circles into it.
âIâm so close,â you moan, Kili nods in response.
âMe too,â he groans, his hands exploring every part of your body as he pulls you into a passionate kiss.
âHey, Y/N, Kili, hurry it up.â Fili yells to you, causing the both of you to jolt up. Kili pushes himself into you as deep as he can. You bite your lip as you cum around him, your hole pulsing.
Your back arches, silent gasps leaving your open mouth as you ride out your high. Your whole body seems to tense up causing Kili to groan while he cums deep inside you. He pulls you off of him giving you a sweet kiss.
âNow we really need to clean up, and fast.â He says lowly, his hands creep up from behind you gasping your sides as he pulls you into deeper water to rinse off. You sigh contently as he holds your body close to his.
After quickly cleaning yourselves up; you both get out, drying off before putting your clothes back on.
âKili, you canât tell anyone about this.â you bite your lip as you turn to him, his eyebrows furrow. âBilbo might actually get so mad he tries to kill you,â you giggle softly as his face relaxes.
âSo itâs our dirty little secret then?â coming close to you he wraps his arms around your neck giving you a deep kiss. âBut we will get to tell everyone later, right?â he pulls back, eyes scanning yours.
âYes, Kili,â you kiss the tip of his nose, hands resting on his shoulders, âbut let's wait it out for a bit, okay?â he smiles in response.

Not All Who Wander - Chapter 6
[Chapter 1] - [Chapter 2] - [Chapter 3] - [Chapter 4] - [Chapter 5] - [Chapter 6] âFingers crossed the next chapter wonât take quite so longâ I said. Well, obviously, every last one of you crossed your fingers, because LESS THAN A WEEK LATER, hereâs the next chapter. ...I had so much fun writing this one you have no idea =D Have some hijinks and fluff to make up for the dark tone of the last chapter.
Bilbo had absolutely no idea what he was doing. It was stupid, foolish, ridiculous. He was behaving like a tale-addled fauntling, and the worst part of it all was that he couldnât even bring himself to regret it, even though he knew he should.
It was just that Thorinâs letters over the autumn and winter had been so sad. Well, actually, theyâd been clipped and formal. Still just as informative as ever, and still full of just as much gratitude and curiosity as ever, so Bilbo was relatively assured that Thorin wasnât mad at him, at least, but⊠Bilbo was concerned. And usually, when he was concerned about a friend, he would pop over for a visit.
Of course, Thorin wasnât a hobbit, and he didnât exactly live just down the lane. He was a dwarf, and  he lived in a mountain. It was an insane notion, and Bilbo had spent all winter trying to shake it out of his head. But he couldnât shake the memory of how Thorin had smiled to see him, and his nephewâs words about his more usual demeanour, and⊠If Bilbo could help make the dwarf a little happier, then- Well, then he wanted to, and that was reason enough, surely.
Thorin had ever so helpfully provided him with a map that had his home marked on it â marked, but not named as more than âdwarven settlementâ, which Bilbo thought was rather sad â and his own maps helped him plan out a route, and there wasnât really anything stopping him, was there?
It had been like taking a walking holiday, and just⊠not turning back. The first night he stayed with his Took relatives, which was normal enough, and the second night he spent at the inn in Michel-Delving, and that wasnât too odd, but the next night he was forced to camp out on the Far Downs, and at that point he was rather forced to admit that this was very much akin to an adventure.
On his own.
In the wilderness.
Gallivanting off to meet dwarves, for heavenâs sake!
What was he thinking?!
Only, of course, he knew what heâd been thinking. Heâd been thinking of Thorin, of how the homesickness had been so very plain in every word he spoke about Erebor, of how he cared so deeply for his nephews, of how he looked at Bilbo like he was something remarkable. He was thinking of Thorinâs letters, how Bilbo could match the tone and cadence of the latest ones with the way he spoke to the other hobbits, but never Bilbo. He was thinking of that last letter, that had mentioned his plans to travel yet again being derailed by⊠Well, by something. Heâd been annoyingly vague about that part.
Heâd been thinking that he really, really just wanted to see Thorin again soon. Far sooner than his vague promises of âperhaps in the summerâ. Why, by then it would be almost a full year gone by without seeing the stupid dwarf, and Bilbo couldnât bear the thought of it.
One more night was spent camping in the foothills of the Blue Mountains, and then he was there.
His first clue was the huts. There were several little clusters of them, scattered across the slopes in a way that reminded Bilbo of nothing so much as stubborn goats perched halfway up garden walls out of sheer tenacity. They were not the best-built houses heâd ever seen, nor were they particularly elegant, but they looked sturdy enough, despite Bilboâs fear that they might just go sliding off down the side of the mountain at the first nudge.
He got more than a few stares as he passed through the make-shift little village, and it made Bilbo feel very out of place indeed. Goodness, but if this was how Thorin felt in the Shire, no wonder heâd been scowling so fiercely. There was another slightly larger cluster of huts further along the path, but by that point, Bilbo was feeling a little uncertain. Thorin had said that they lived in the mountain, but was that another cultural difference? Had Bilbo walked right past Thorinâs house and not known?
He pulled out his map, wondering if it might hold any insights for him, but no, the little dot that symbolised this particular settlement spanned half a mountain, and offered him no details. There could be dozens of these little hamlets, and Bilbo could be wandering them for days looking for âa dwarf named Thorinâ. He hadnât thought this through at all.
ââScuse me, Mr Hobbit?â Bilboâs head snapped up, startled. There was a dwarf standing nearby, head ducked forward as though he was trying to peer around Bilboâs map to look at his face. He had the most ridiculous moustache, but there was a friendly, inviting smile underneath it, and his eyes were surrounded by laugh-lines. âBit lost?â The dwarf suggested, tone light like they were sharing a joke.
âAh, somewhat.â Bilbo admitted, going a little pink with chagrin.
The dwarf perked up and stepped closer now that conversation had been engaged. âMaybe I can be of service?â He offered, and then leaned in to look at Bilboâs map. âWhy, thatâs a dwarven map, or Iâll eat my hat!â He exclaimed with some surprise.
âWell, yes, I should hope so, as it was a dwarf who gave it to me.â Bilbo agreed. âItâs no help, though. I know Iâm in the right place-â He jabbed his finger at the little dot. â-I just donât know where Thorin lives. I should have asked, really, but I never thought- Well, never mind. I donât suppose you happen to know where I might find him?â He asked, hopefully, giving up on scowling at the map to look over at the helpful dwarf, only to find him looking startled.
âThorin?â He echoed. âYouâre looking for a dwarf named Thorin?â He checked, sounding a little incredulous, although Bilbo couldnât imagine why. Unless that was like asking after a âDaisyâ in the Shire? Bilbo would be a bit incredulous if anyone asked where to find Daisy, without adding in a last name, or anything else to separate that Daisy from the dozens of others living in Hobbiton alone.
âYes. Ah, heâs a blacksmith. He said dwarves donât really do last names, but he did have one of those epithets you lot bestow for acts of valour or whatever.â It took Bilbo a moment to root it out of his memory, but heâd remembered weirder names for many a distant cousin, and, well, he liked Thorin a great deal more than he liked any of them, so he had ascribed the name a good deal more importance. âOakenshield? Do you know him, by any chance?â
The dwarf was gaping at him now, slack-jawed and wide-eyed. âYou-â He began, but didnât seem to know how to finish that sentence. He mouthed helplessly for a moment. âOakenshield.â He repeated. âYouâre- youâre quite sure thatâs the name?â
âYes.â Bilbo insisted, getting a little impatient now. âHeâs about so tall-â He gestured well above his own head and a little above the dwarfâs, even with the extra inches his hat gave him. âLong dark hair, short beard, impressive scowl.â
The dwarf started nodding about half-way through, one fist pressed to his mouth as if in thought. Bilbo stared at him, entirely befuddled and unsure whether the dwarf did or didnât know Thorin. âOh, Mahalâs balls.â He breathed suddenly, and Bilboâs eyes nearly bugged out of his head at the profanity. âBlacksmith.â He squeaked. Snorted. And then he started laughing so hard he doubled over, wheezing. ââActs of valour or whateverâ! Donât know where he lives! Oh, by Mahalâs forge!â
Bilbo was feeling more and more embarrassed, and more and more annoyed about that fact. âYes, alright!â He snapped eventually. âItâs very funny, Iâm sure. But in case you hadnât noticed, Iâm not a dwarf! Iâm sure youâre all well versed in where you all live and what youâve all done, but this is the first time Iâve even left the Shire, for goodness sake! I just wanted to visit a friend, because thatâs what we do in the Shire when someone you care about is having a rough time, but Iâm really starting to feel like maybe I just should have stayed home and not bothered!â
âAch, sorry, sorry.â The dwarf said, but he was still smiling, so that took some of the sincerity out of it, in Bilboâs opinion. He seemed to notice that, because he went so far as to sweep his hat off his head as he sank into a bow. âMy most humble apologies, Master Hobbit.â
âWell, now youâre just mocking me.â Bilbo grumbled.
âI promise Iâm not.â The dwarf assured him, straightening up but not replacing his hat. âWell, not much. Itâs just, uh, that Thorin, you see, heâs⊠Well, heâs a little bit famous, round these parts.â He admitted with a sheepishly amused grin.
âOh.â Bilbo muttered, still feeling a touch irritable.
âHe lives inside the mountain, too, and you might have a little bit of trouble getting in. We donât usually have non-dwarves wandering around up here. I can show you the way, though, and maybe, uh, vouch for you, or something.â The dwarf offered.
The last of Bilboâs irritation melted away, and he sighed. âThank you.â He agreed, and then. âOh, where are my manners? Bilbo Baggins.â He went to hold out his hand, and then remembered that Thorin tended to bow, so he did that instead, even though it made him feel very silly. âUm⊠at your service?â He offered, hoping that was the right thing to say.
The dwarf beamed at him. âBofur, son of Bomfur, at yours and your familyâs!â He replied, bowing again. Bilbo blew out a quiet, relieved sigh, glad heâd at least got something right. âThis way, then.â Bofur encouraged, tipping his head back the way Bilbo had come. Bilbo sighed again, this time at himself, and then fell into step with the dwarf.
They walked for a minute or two in silence, weaving between the little stone huts, Bofur waving or nodding cheerfully to anyone and everyone who paused to stare. He didnât get much in the way of response. Maybe a cautious nod if he was lucky, or a frown if he wasnât. âYou dwarves arenât a very sociable lot, are you?â Bilbo asked, before he could think better of it.
Bofur snorted. âNah, weâre plenty sociable among ourselves. Itâs just⊠well, weâve been through a lot, and it makes a people a bit wary and suspicious-like. No offence to you specifically. If, uh, if Thorin thinks youâre a decent sort, then you probably are, at that.â Bilbo felt oddly flattered by that, both for himself, and at the implication of trust in Thorinâs judgement. âDâyou mind if I ask how you met him?â Bofur questioned, not exactly tentatively, but in a tone that suggested he was half expecting to be shut down.
For a moment, Bilbo was confused. Then he remembered the way that âblacksmithâ had been one of the reasons why Bofur had been laughing at him, and frowned. Was Thorin not a blacksmith? That hardly made any sense; Bilbo had seen him hard at work at the forge on more than one occasion. Had stopped to watch for long enough that he was pretty sure it couldnât have just been for show. âHe stopped to ask for directions to Bree.â He said casually, watching Bofur closely out of the corner of his eye. âHe had business there, and his nephews had gone on ahead to advertise. I suggested he might want to try selling his wares in the Shire on his next trip, since weâve a lot of need for good quality farming tools and such.â
Bofur looked surprised, but not as startled as Bilbo might have expected. âAnd did he?â Bofur wanted to know.
âWell, yes. Several times now.â Bilbo confirmed. The conversation faltered when Bofur didnât seem to have anything to say to that, but before Bilbo could think of trying to find a new topic, the dwarf pulled up short and rapped his fist against the cliff-side theyâd been ambling along. Bilbo froze, blinking in bewilderment.
Only, to his very great shock, a slab of the rock-face swung inwards in two parts. Like doors, Bilbo realised, staring open-mouthed in wonder. They were more than tall enough to accommodate four or five hobbits standing on each otherâs shoulders, and wide enough to allow half a dozen or more to walk abreast, and the tunnel beyond was lit with glittering crystals that revealed a smooth hall lined with intricate geometric carvings.
âOhâŠ!â Bilbo breathed in awe, taking a step forward without thinking.
He pulled up short when a very long-handled axe was lowered across his path. Although, it was nothing like any axe Bilbo had ever seen before, with pointy bits on top and on the back and across the top of the handle as well. It looked like it would be next to useless chopping firewood, and Bilbo was fairly sure that meant that it was meant for a far more gruesome purpose. He stepped back again sharply. âWhoâs that, and whatâs he doing here?â The dwarf holding the axe â if it was even called an axe when it was meant for people and not trees! â demanded of Bofur.
âHe is right here.â Bilbo huffed, irritated by the rudeness. âAnd he can hear you perfectly well and speak for himself just fine, thank you.â The dwarf gave him a long, incredulous look. âMy name is Bilbo Baggins â at your service â and Iâm here to visit a friend.â He offered a short bow, because that was apparently the polite thing to do, and it would be just the thing to make the dwarf ashamed of his own behaviour, really, to be better at dwarven manners than a dwarf.
âA friend.â The guard echoed incredulously. âWhat friend?â
Bofur cleared his throat. A glance told Bilbo that he looked like he was about to burst out laughing again, but was valiantly restraining himself. âAh, I know weâve got rules and whatnot about outsiders not being let into the mountain without King Thorinâs say-so, so I was just going to run on in and let His Majesty know heâs got a visitor?â
The guard nearly dropped his axe in shock. Bilbo couldnât honestly say he would have done any better. Indeed, his fingers felt rather numb all of a sudden where they were wrapped around his walking stick. It felt a little like Bofurâs words were drifting over to him from a very, very long way away, but slowly, they filtered through into his mind in a shape that made⊠well, it didnât make any sense at all, actually, but he understood what the words were supposed to mean, anyway.
It seemed like a small age that the guard just stood there uncertainly, before, eventually, he nodded, and gestured Bofur through with his axe. Bofur slipped past him and flashed a reassuring grin at Bilbo that Bilbo barely registered. âYou just sit tight, Master Baggins.â He called, the words echoing in between the confused repetitions of âKing Thorinâ and âHis Majestyâ still swirling through Bilboâs mind. And then Bofur was gone down the hall, and it and the guard vanished from view as the invisible rock-doors swung soundlessly shut again, leaving Bilbo gaping like a fish at a blank stone wall.
âKing?!â
Bofur wasnât really expecting anyone to stop him on his way to deliver a message to the King. Oh, there was a gamut of guards to get past, but âmessage for the Kingâ opened a lot of doors, even if Bofur didnât have the braids of a courier. He was from the surface dwellings, which meant that if he made himself look a little bit harried, everyone expected him to be reporting on some new disaster, and they ushered him on quickly. He was glad that heâd get to deliver good news, instead.
He assumed it would be good news. Thinking back to the awkward little hobbit heâd left on the doorstep, Bofur had to stifle a grin. He knew very little about hobbits, all told, but that alone was enough to know that they didnât exactly get out much. To have one come all the way here was remarkable, and the fact that it had all been for the sole reason of lifting the Kingâs spirits? That was sweet, and something Bofur most definitely approved of.
The guards pointed him towards the Kingâs office, an area of the halls heâd never ever had cause to visit before. It was a little intimidating, even if they didnât look all that different from the rest of the halls. The carvings were more artistic, and the rooms and walkways better maintained, maybe, but only barely. And that was why Bofur liked King Thorin. Unlike the puffed up old sods on the Broadbeam council, who insisted on their station being venerated despite the fact that no one bloody well had time for that rot anymore.
Before he could reach his destination, though, he was halted by a pair of stony-faced suspicious-looking guards. âIâve a message for the King.â He told him.
âWhat message?â The guard demanded.
Bofur blinked, but, well, it wasnât like it was a secret. âThereâs a visitor for him at the Gate.â
One of the guards nodded to the other, and the other one left, heading down the hall, while the other remained in place and kept a gimlet stare pinned on Bofur. There wasnât anything for him to do except wait, so he leaned against the wall, and started humming an old mining song to keep himself entertained. The guard didnât relax, even when Bofur pulled out a jauntier tavern song, and then started singing a song that was perhaps not appropriate for the royal quarter.
He was on the fourth verse when the King came into view. The guard grimaced, and gave Bofur a âshut up right now!â sort of look. Bofur stopped singing, but he didnât stop grinning. Especially since the two Princes, who were a step behind their uncle, both looked to be struggling not to laugh. He offered them a wink, and the youngest snorted into his muffling palms.
King Thorin shot the Princes a reproving glower, and then swept the same look over Bofur. It was very intimidating, and Bofur bowed to get away from it. âBofur, son of Bomfur, at your service, mâlord.â He offered politely.
âAt yours and your familyâs.â The King replied, entirely serious, bowing back. It left Bofur a little stunned, if he was being honest. He knew, of course, that King Thorin was good to even the poorest of his people, but that was a level of respect Bofur just about never saw these days. âYou said there was a visitor at the gate?â King Thorin pressed on, already setting off past Bofur down the hall and gesturing for the poor surface-dwelling ex-miner toy-maker to walk beside him. âWhat sort of visitor?â
âA hobbit.â Bofur informed him, and had the distinct honour of being one of the few dwarves ever to see their good King stumble like a wee pebble still taking their first steps.
âMister Baggins?!â The younger Prince asked in what Bofur could only describe as glee.
Bofur looked over his shoulder at him, grinning again. âYes, as it happens. He did say he was looking for a friend. You do know him, then?â He asked, feigning innocence as he looked to the King. âOnly, I wasnât entirely sure, seeing as Mr Baggins was very clear he was looking for a simple travelling blacksmith and all. But I donât think thereâs another âThorinâ in these halls, soâŠâ
The younger Prince was howling with laughter, and if Bofur wasnât much mistaken, their great and noble King was blushing. He had to press a fist to his mouth to keep from joining Prince KĂli in his mirth. âThat must have been an awful shock for Mr Baggins.â The elder Prince interjected, his moustache quivering with the laughter he was biting back.
âHe did seem a little stunned.â Bofur acknowledged.
âThatâs enough.â King Thorin snapped. Bofur did put some effort into repressing his grin, but that was kind of ruined when Prince FĂli sniggered into the ensuing silence. âFĂli.â King Thorin growled.
âSorry, Uncle.â FĂli offered, not sounding very sorry at all. âBut really, he had to be told some time before you present him with your first gift.â Bofurâs eyes maybe bugged out of his head a little bit at that, because that sounded an awful lot like the King was intending to court the fussy little surface-dweller Bofur had left standing outside the gate.
âYes, I know.â King Thorin huffed, sounding resigned. âI had only hoped to be able to inform him in my own time.â
And there was no denial. Which meant the King was planning to court a hobbit. That was⊠Oh, that was going to put a raven in the tinkerâs shop, and no mistake. Still, Bofur wasnât an old tradition-bound councillor and, in his opinion, a dwarf could do a lot worse than someone who would go out of their way just to keep your spirits up.
It didnât take them much longer to reach the gate, because the pace King Thorin had set had been only just this side of eager. The guards standing sentry in the watchtower carved into the mountain either side of the main tunnel opened the gate without needing to be ordered to on seeing the King approach. It took Bofurâs eyes a moment to adjust to the sunlight, and then another moment to find Mister Baggins, because he wasnât standing on the path anymore. Instead, heâd taken a seat on a boulder not too far off, travelling pack and walking stick leaning against the mountainside beside him.
âBilbo.â King Thorin greeted, hand raised to shield his eyes from the sun, but not hesitating to step out to greet the little hobbit.
Mister Baggins got to his feet as Thorin approached, and Bofur only then noticed that the poor thingâs feet were entirely bare, because he was digging his toes into the shale and gravel like some kind of living tree attempting to root itself even in stone. Then he cleared his throat, lifted his chin defiantly, and said âThorin.â
And King Thorin laughed.
Bofur was pretty sure his own jaw wasnât the only one to have dropped. The two guards shared looks like they were wondering if their ale had been spiked. Everyone in the mountain knew that King Thorin didnât laugh. By Mahal, he barely smiled. Not that anyone considered it a flaw, as far as anyone Bofur had talked to was concerned, the King had precious little to smile about, so fair enough, really.
âWhat are you doing here?â King Thorin demanded. âYou must have been walking for daysâŠ!â
Mister Baggins frowned at him. âWell, yes, a few. But it wasnât so very different from a walking holiday, really, and Iâve been on plenty enough of those that I knew what I was doing. And I had that lovely map of yours to show me where to go.â He paused, and then peered up at the Kingâs face intently. âYou sounded upset, in your letters, and I rather thought- Well, if youâd lived in the Shire, I wouldnât have thought twice about popping over to check in on you, and really, itâs not so far to walk. Less than a week, and itâs that far to Bree. Which I havenât actually visited, mind, but a fair few hobbits do, so itâs not as though Iâve done anything scandalous-â
Bofur couldnât see the Kingâs face, because he was facing away from the rest of them, but he didnât need to, to know that he was staring at the little hobbit in wonder. It was all right there in his voice, when he said; âThank you, Bilbo.â
âOh, I- Well, yes.â Mister Baggins stammered, clearing his throat again, before smiling warmly in response. âYouâre quite welcome.â He offered, and then promptly shook the moment off with a brisk little sniff. âNow, are you going to make me stand on your doorstep all day?â
âOf course not.â King Thorin said quickly, and turned to usher Mister Baggins into the mountain. The guards stepped smartly into flanking positions either side of the gate and raised their weapons in salute. Putting on a proper show for the first surface-dweller to step inside dwarven halls in- Well, since Erebor fell, probably. Mister Baggins squeaked, though whether in surprise or fright, Bofur couldnât tell, and though King Thorin nodded respectfully to the guards, his momentary solemnity doing nothing to dim his smile.
âOh, FĂli! KĂli! Hello! Iâm afraid I didnât see you there.â Mister Baggins greeted as he approached the cluster of dwarves. Bofur edged away, not wanting to intrude, but still a little caught up in enjoying watching someone elseâs happiness. The Princes, while clearly not besotted the way the King was, were still clearly delighted to greet Mister Baggins, and were doing so with all the rambunctious enthusiasm of dwarves half their age.
Before he could actually retreat back through the closing gates, though, the King turned to him. âThank you for taking care of him, Master Bofur.â King Thorin said, still with that fond half-smile on his face. He actually looked a little dazed by his own happiness, which made Bofur grin in sympathy, and maybe a little amusement.
âOh, it was no trouble, Your Majesty.â He assured him cheerfully.
âIf it would not be too much of an imposition, would you be willing to see Mister Baggins home when he wishes to leave? Youâll be paid for your time and trouble, of course.â King Thorin requested.
Bofur maybe gaped at him a little. He was doing a lot of that today, but he dared anyone else to keep their composure better after the day Bofurâs had. âIâd- Oâcourse Iâll do it, Â but- Iâm just a toymaker. Not even a miner, anymore. Wouldnât you rather send an actual guard for- for someone so important?â He asked, bewildered.
For a moment, the King looked pained, but then he cleared his face, even though his smile looked a little less happy. âThe guards are currently stretched rather thin, and I donât expect there to be any real trouble on the road to the Shire, but Mister Baggins is of a gentle, peaceful folk, and I would feel better if he had someone with a strong enough arm to swing a pickaxe with him.â He paused, and then fixed a steady, intent stare on Bofur that startled him, just a little. âI have no doubt in your skill, nor your honour, Bofur, son of Bomfur.â
âAâright then.â Bofur managed, feeling a little ridiculous for being so flattered at the trust being put in him, but it was King Thorin. He figured that earned him a little leeway. âYeah. Iâll- Whenever heâs ready to go, just- ah-â Bofur gestured uselessly, in a vague attempt to communicate that he wasnât going to be busy doing anything that couldnât be dropped with a few minutes notice.
âWeâll find you.â King Thorin replied, and Bofur felt a laugh bubbling up at the thought of King Thorin dropping by the tiny clumsy surface shack he shared with his cousin.
âWhatâs this?â Mister Baggins asked, finally released from the Princes, it seemed. âWhy will we need to find Mister Bofur?â
âHeâll be escorting you home, once you wish to return.â King Thorin informed him.
Rather than being grateful, Mister Bagginsâs face scrunched up in what looked like annoyance. And sure enough, his next words were damn near to a scolding, hands on hips and everything. âIâm not a helpless fauntling, Thorin, I hardly need babysitting-â
âItâs not that I believe you to be helpless, Bilbo.â King Thorin retorted in frustration. Bofurâs shoulders shook with laughter at the long-suffering look on his face. âIâve no doubt that with a little training, you would wield a blade well enough-â
âA blade?!â Mister Baggins squawked.
King Thorin jabbed a finger at Mister Bagginâs horrified expression. âBut that â that right there â is why Iâd rather you have someone with you while you go cavorting about in the wilderness! The world is a dangerous place-â
Bofur finally exited the mountain to the sound of the hobbitâs flustered, indignant blustering, and the Kingâs fondly frustrated retorts. He whistled a jaunty little ditty to himself as he ambled home, marvelling at everything heâd seen and learned today, and the strange little turn his life had taken, just because heâd stopped to give a hobbit directions. Bifur was sure to get a laugh out of this story, sure enough.

THRANDUIL AND WHITE DEER
Bilbo and others dwarves are safe across the enchanted river with boat, but when Bomfur is getting ready to scramble out of the boat suddenly a deer spring over them and make Bomfur fall in and drown into the river. They help Bomfur and lying him of the bank. From afar they hear blowing of horns in the wood and the sound as of dogs baying. Short while later, appear some white deer before them again, a hind and fawns as snowy white. The deer is a symbol of many things, a symbol of spiritual authority, a messenger, an animal power, sensitivity, intuition and genteleness, also related to the sacred and to forests, independence, purification and pride. Â The white colour meaning coolness and simplicity, innocence, light, goodness, heaven, safety, brilliance, sincerity, and perfection. Seems like the white deer as representations of the king of Mirwood forest. Bilbo and Thorin's company see white deer when they almost exit Mirkwood forest in the northheast, a region save from Necromancer influences in the southeast. Â So it's not come from dangerous area. Â It comes from the king of Mirkwood forest. The white deer brings message to dwarves as mortals are entering the lands of immortals the region of woodland elves where different rules or laws apply. That is, the Elves rule in this part of their forest and their laws must be honored. No matters what happens, thirsty, hungry and frustate, they should not trespassing the mirkwood forest. If they have been in Mirkwood forest the should go to otherside. Â As Tolkien then writes: "If they had known more about it and considered the meaning of the hunt and the white deer that had appeared on their path, they would have know they were drawing towards the eastern edge"Â
THRANDUIL AND SEAGULLSÂ
Legolas gets message from Galadriel :..... "Legolas Greenleaf long under tree. In joy thou hast lived. Beware of the Sea! If thou hearest the cry of the gull on the shore, Thy heart shall then rest in the forest no more"
It seems to be Legolas's fate, when he hear seagulls, the sea-longing will make him leave Mirkwood forest forever. And how if Thranduil has known about that. He has known that oneday Legolas will leave him alone and sail to Valinor. And i imagine what Thranduil worries everytime he sees seagulls. His heart beats fast and asking himself...is this time to Legolas to valinor? Or he will try to speak to seagull to never appear before Legolas.Â

The path I choose
read it on the AO3 at https://ift.tt/37VSJZO
by AvariaRevallier
A knocking on the door made her look up from the book she was reading. A guest? At this hour? Slowly the small Hobbit stood up to answer the door. âDwalin, at your service.â A dwarf. A dwarf on her doorstep. A dwarf she knew a long time ago. A dwarf who died in battle, proudly swinging his weapon. With a blank stare she scanned the dwarf. âOh Yavanna, how cruel of youâ Another moment the hobbit stood in the half open door, slowly realizing what was happening. In her empty eyes a spark lit up, after a long and cold winter. A single teardrop ran down her cheek, breaking her numbness. âYou are alive?â She wispered under her breath. Before Dwalin could react the small hobbit jumped at him, hugging the big warrior and sobbing at his chest.

Bomfur, Determamfidd's OC of Bombur and Bofur's father. I don't like his expression. But my previous image of the whole family captured his personality a bit more. This was me experimenting with my iPad app again. I'm getting better, slowly. I'm waiting on a firmware update so that my stylus works properly with the iPad Air...which might be a long time. But it's not half bad right now. Next up will be a portrait of Genna, Bomfur's lovely wife. After that, maybe some actual illustrations of Sansukh, to keep me busy until the next update! ^_^

Looking for a Hobbit Fic
Can someone help me find a hobbit fic? Basically it's an AU where the Shire has a drawling where who ever gets chosen is sent to the dwarves and the Hobbits think that they're all going to their deaths because no hobbit has ever returned but it turns out the dwarves had no idea about that. Also the reason their being summon because it's a hobbit that could break the curse on Thorin who turns into a dragon sometimes. Does anyone know where this is? I'm almost 100% sure that I read this on Ao3. Thanks!

#787 I am tending to Bifur, help him wash and dress ect. and in return he braided my hair, and never leaving my side, he was very protective and would go in wood-carving and toymaking contest with Bofur to win my affection, in the end I got both and Bombur became my awesome brother-in-law.
