i got to do fieldwork for a calcareous fen restoration project in the south of the netherlands this week. none of these areas are open to the public but man there's some beautiful sights to be seen. honestly some of the most beautiful places in the country

you have no idea how badly i want to build my own little bog in my yard. now if only i had a yard.

So many people have wetlands in their yards and don't even know! "This spot in my yard is always soggy and wet! How do I fix it?"

They will of course tell you to install a French drain. DO NOT DO IT! Plant Wetland plants and allow it to helpfully absorb puddles of heavy rain and give you the gift of beauty!

wild to me that fandom spaces awash with queer people, especially on tumblr, still clutch their pearls about noncon art and fiction, as if dub- and noncon as both metaphor and kink haven't been staples of multiple genres since, like... ever.

just finished reading the book "kindred" by octavia butler and oh my god i'm gonna need like 7-12 business days to process this holy shit (this is a compliment)

#it took me a bit to get into it bc i'm not typically a fan of time travel stories or historical fiction from more than a hundred years ago #but the ''time travel'' element didn't get bogged down in explaining the science of it like it allowed it to just not be understood #in a way that puts the reader in the same place as the characters being like ''idk why this is happening but we need to deal with it''#and the characters were all very compelling so the historical fiction aspect didn't fall into the same pitfalls as others i've read #all in all i enjoyed it and it was very well written but also oh my god it was heavy. like it wasn't *miserable* there were moments of ligh #but it was a ton of heavy topics so i recommend it only if you're in the headspace for historical atrocities and depression #anyway this was the last of the three books scott gave me while on tour!!#bc scott was constantly reading while on tour and a few times if he liked a book he'd just give it to me to bring home #i hope he passes along more recommendations bc this has been a big motivator to get me back into reading more
