Overview of some topics when it comes to drawing characters who are burn survivors.

DISCLAIMER. Please keep in mind that this is an introductory overview for drawing some burn scars and has a lot of generalizations in it, so not every “X is Z” statement will be true for Actual People. I'm calling this introductory because I hope to get people to actually do their own research before drawing disabled & visibly different characters rather than just making stuff up. Think of it as a starting point and take it with a grain of salt (especially if you have a very different art style from mine).

Talking about research and learning... don't make your burn survivor characters evil. Burn survivors are normal people and don't deserve to be constantly portrayed in such a way.

second way more important edit: How are people seeing this post where I specifically talk about burn survivors being normal, real people, and still tag this as "TW body horror"? Not a single one of these drawings or pictures is a fresh injury. All of them are healed. How the hell would you feel if someone tagged a photo of you as "trigger warning: gore"?

Disabled people are not your fucking body horror. Grow up.

I’m Nix, I’m 18 and I’m a queer artist.

Stuff im interested in, please please feel free to talk to me about any of this. I love this shit

-Attack on Titan, I hold a special place in my heart for Marco, Reiner, jean, and bertholdt specifically

-marine life, I’m so. So so into marine animals, especially pinnipeds, but really I love any oceanic life vertebrate or not, massive or microscopic.

-My OCs, I love them so dearly and I will be taking abt them a lot eventually

-Pokémon, almost anything about these damn games I love them so much, I enjoy them all but black and white hold a special place in my heart

-bunch of different games other than Pokémon but my all time favorites are Psychonauts (1 and 2), Earthbound, stardew valley, Subnautica, and more

-Currently been thinking about the addams family a little recently because I binged the whole ‘64 series. So that too

Essentially I get way too excited about way too many things, and I’m gonna use this as a dumping ground for various things.

Other things about me:

I swear a lot

prone to going offline for weeks at a time, I’m always okay, just overwhelmed

Autistic

Body positive, I’m plus sized myself and tend to draw a lot of plus sized people simply because that’s what I enjoy drawing

Might vent but if I do. Anything will be properly tagged and hidden under the see more
