I really hope that during the next season we get to explore momtaz records and what they can do with their newfound album and free speech because during the arc this season when they were in conflict with censorship it made me think of real life British punk band, Bob Vylan, who created their own record label instead of signing to a bigger one because they wanted to be in control of their own money and avoid censorship. they said if they could make it to #18 on the charts uncensored, they could make it to #1 as well and this season all I could think abt was them

music : Bob Vylan - Makes Me Violent (stream this band, they're GREAT)
hi tumblr, this is my pride celebration post.
Today (and July 7th) in France we vote in an early legislative election (president Macron decided by himself to dissolve the French Assembly because the french far-right got the most votes in the european elections earlier this month). So right now, we vote to decide who will sit in the National Assembly (that's the people that will vote for our laws and stuff, to keep it simple).
I'll ramble a bit under the cut, keep in mind that english isn't my main language.
As I write this, I'm really scared of what the results are gonna be tonight. I hope for the sake of my friends and myself that the far-right won't be in the lead, but I'm also not delusional. We're lucky enough that a huge chunk of the left decided to form an alliance, so there's at least one chance to fight against both the far-right and the president's party (which have both been riding a wave of gaslighting and misinformation in the mainstream medias since Macron announced the dissolution). But still, I'm so scared my finger have been twitching and trembling since this morning. I'm scared because I want to still be able to protest freely and without fearing for my life against bigots and misogynits and racists and colonialists and all around fight for my rights and the rights of minorities in my country. I want for people to live freely without fear of being assaulted for their gender, skin color or sexual orientation. I hate that we still have to fight for basic rights. I hate that we will still have to fight even more in the future. I don't want facists and racists to spread their ideas. I hate that they only ever understand violence. I hate that they make me violent in turn.
I hate that it feels like everything is out of our control. I've talked and argued and been mad for 3 weeks straight, now what can I do? I voted, now we wait. And we'll do it all over again the 7th (and it will be even more awful then, I bet). So I'm scared and angry and overall kinda exhausted. But, somehow, whatever the results, I know that we've got this. I've got great friends that make me laugh even as I write this post. This past month I've seen a lot of people advocate for positive change and unity. I've seen people take a stand against the hate, independant journalists right the lies. I've laughed at kpop stans level edits of left-wing policitians, and jokes that underline the whole fuckery that's going own. I have been scared, but I haven't felt lonely. So yeah, we're together in this, whatever the results. We'll still be together afterwards. We'll cry together, hopefully in joy.

@aeolianblues's recent New Music Friday Polls made me appreciate just how much amazing music she's introduced me to over the years, so have a niche poll of songs I love that I wouldn't have discovered without her!
I've linked each song on Spotify so if any are unfamiliar to you feel free to check them out - you may well discover a new favourite like I did 🥰
(and also check out @aeolianblues because she's awesome and she knows more about upcoming artists than I ever will 💖)

🎵 SONG-TO-GO 🎵
Friday is here, so I've got another Song-To-Go poll hot n' ready to go for you!
If you're new, hello and welcome! Song-To-Go is a weekly song poll released every Friday where I present you with new, lesser-known songs to listen to while you scroll.
As always, choose songs based on the 30-second Spotify snippets if you don’t know them (and I try to make sure there’s always something you won’t know). If you like what you hear, go listen to the full songs, they’re yours to carry along on your scroll!
[last week’s poll, playlist of everything so far (in order) and other/future picks]
This week, I’ve picked some Cure-inspired new wave from India that I’ve been digging all year, a Montreal synthpop trio that actually came out of cult favourite band Caveboy, a young but incredible new jazzy Canadian alt rock band (broken up already sadly), American goth rock that iirc I found through tumblr so you might already know her. We’ve also got a punk rock band whose sense of justice is shaped by the fact that their singer is still and was an NHS doctor during the pandemic, and the hip hop musician Hyphen, who is opening for Bob Vylan (another recommendation!) on their UK tour so go catch him live.
Happy listening! Pass it on and let me know in the tags what you liked this week :) I’ll be back with another next Friday!

I started this as a tribute to Bob Vylan's new album, Humble as the Sun, but it's been a month since then so I don't know if it's still relevant. And yet. Before you say anything about the shading, know that I literally just have started teaching myself how to shade skin and I still don't get it. Anyways, Hobie Brown listens to Bob Vylan. Reference image (Bobby Vylan himself) and no anarchy symbol alt under the cut
