We are faced with the common ethical question about hurting the sales of trans authors. However, the largest ever study on piracy actually found that the piracy of copyrighted books, music, video games, and movies has no effect on sales. In the case of video games, piracy actually helped sales. As far back as 2002, we can see piracy boosting sales of media. Trans Reads strongly encourages you to purchase the books that you enjoy here or find other ways to support the author.

Academic authors rarely – if ever – see income from sales of their books, articles, or chapters. Most want to remove the paywalls withholding their content. Trans Reads is open to collaborating with authors, publishers, and journals on making this a possibility through our website.

History:

In 2014, Leslie Feinberg published the 20th-anniversary edition of Stone Butch Blues, one of the most influential works of transgender literature. The novel was a way for trans, gender nonconforming, and queer people to realize ourselves. It told us we aren’t alone. However, when the publisher went bankrupt, Leslie had to struggle to regain ownership over hir own novel.

“I had to work to recover my rights to Stone Butch Blues. When the first publisher went into Chapter 11 court, I had to spend thousands of dollars of my wages on legal fees to recover the right to this novel… While very ill in Spring 2012, I recovered my rights again.”

Ze didn’t want the book to be released as a film adaptation exploiting hir story for straight fantasies. Ze also used the opportunity to make the book more accessible. First editions shot up into hundreds of dollars. The least expensive print versions are still over $30 on Amazon. This simply isn’t affordable to most queer and trans people. The fight ended with Leslie publishing hir novel on hir website as a PDF, a strategy of reclaiming transgender narratives from greedy publishes by collective ownership of the text.

Trans Reads is dedicated to the memory of Leslie and all those who feel alone. Most individuals don’t have institutional access and cannot afford to pay for texts. Transreads.org allows visitors to effortlessly read texts by, for, or related to trans people online for free as PDFs. Trans Reads is the space where anyone can easily discuss, add, or download trans content.

This project is intended to foster discussion around the current state of learning. We refuse paywalls and withholding education. Trans Reads provides the opportunity to access, discuss, and distribute texts related to our community on its website in a matter of seconds.

Knowledge, learning, and community must be de-commodified for our collective liberation. Take it from Leslie:

Ever 17: The Out of Infinity and Never 7: The End of Infinity remasters announced for PS4, Switch, and PC - Gematsu

MAGES. has announced remastered versions of science-fiction suspense visual novels Ever 17: The Out of Infinity and Never 7: The End of Infinity for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC (Steam). Both titles will be released digitally on March 6, 2025 in Japan and Asia, with the PC version being published by Spike Chunsoft. A “Ever 17 / Never 7 Double Pack” for Switch will also be available, which includes both games on one cartridge. It will support English, Japanese, and Traditional Chinees language options (in Asia, at least).

The “Ever 17 / Never 7 Double Pack” will be available in standard and limited editions. The standard edition will be priced at 7,480 yen, while the limited edition will cost 9,680 yen. The latter includes the “Ever 17 / Never 7 Sound Collection” DVD-ROM, which features 31 songs from Ever 17: The Out of Infinity and 24 songs from Never 7: The End of Infinity, which can be extracted as mp3 and FLAC files.

Ever 17: The Out of Infinity is the second original entry in the Infinity series, first released by KID in 2002. In 2011, MAGES. released a “remake version” for the Xbox 360, featuring fully 3D characters, new scenarios, and updated graphics. The “remastered version” retains the 2D character expressions from the original game, while rebuilding the outfits and opening movie from the remake in 2D. Additionally, the new scenarios elements introduced in the remake have been incorporated, making this the definitive edition of Ever17 The game is a suspense-filled visual novel told from the perspectives of two protagonists. Seven individuals find themselves trapped in the an underwater theme park called “LeMU.” At the beginning of the game, the player selects either college student Takeshi Kuranari or a boy with amnesia, then progresses through the story from that character’s point of view. By allowing the player to choose between two protagonists, the game offers a multifaceted view of the same story, enabling deeper immersion. What “true secret” will these two perspectives reveal? Discover the answer as you dive into the game’s world through its suspenseful story.

Story

Spring 2017. Takeshi Kuranari, an ordinary college student, visits the underwater theme park “LeMU,” where he becomes involved in an accident and ends up trapped there. “Sora,” the only remaining system operator, announces that there is a limited time before LeMU collapses under the water pressure. 170 hours and 17 minutes. With rescue seeming hopeless, Takeshi, along with a mysterious girl named Tsugumi and the park guide Yuu, wanders through LeMU in search of a way to escape to the surface. A theme park of hopes and dreams, submerged at the bottom of a mysterious blue ocean. Do any of those hopes and dreams still remain? Or is there another mystery yet to be uncovered? The answer lies with “you.”

Never 7: The End of Infinity is a high-definition remastered version of the 2000-released title of the same name, released as the complete edition of the original Infinity game. At the time, romance visual novels were at their peak, and the game garnered attention for its unique setting, story gimmicks, and its incorporation of rich mystery and suspense elements. This success led to its establishment as the first entry in the Infinity series, a science-fiction suspense franchise that features “time loop” elements in its storytelling. The player assumes the role of protagonist Makoto Ishihara, advancing the story through dialogue and decision-making. Makoto, a third-year college student, arrives on a secluded island in the southern seas for a seminar training camp, where he becomes involved in a hapless fate during what was supposed to be an ordinary seven-day trip. Knowing that tragedy awaits and the seventh day will never arrive, the player’s goal is to uncover the mysteries and escape the doomed cycle by solving the puzzle of Makoto’s fate.

Story

On the morning of April 1, 2019, protagonist Makoto Ishihara experiences the worst awakening of his life. He dreams of “a girl tragically dying right before his eyes.” The protagonist Makoto is on a secluded island in the southern seas for a seminar training camp. The seminar training camp, in the simple joy of everyday life, should have ended peacefully… But then came the fateful day of April 6…. On that day, “anxiety” turns to “despair,” and “premonition” turns to “tragedy.” The morning of the seventh day, which will never come. By relying on the memories that remain, Makoto works prevent the tragedy to reveal “all the mysteries.” End the eternal sorrow. This is a science-fiction suspense romance visual novel where players must escape a time loop, and where various emotions and destinies intricately intertwine. It's Feral Friday!

If Special Collections were compared to a National Park- a thoughtfully curated, accessible experience of the wilderness of the natural world- where would its edges lie? What would be considered off the beaten path, how would its boundaries be defined, and in what ways would the landscape beyond those boundaries inspire our imagination and broaden our conceptions of the world and our communicative capacities?

Happy Birthday Gregory Edward “Greg” Hemphill born 14th December 1969 in Glasgow.

I think the majority of us will know who Greg is, one half of the successful partnership with partner, Ford Kiernan that is Still Game.

The family left Scotland when Greg was twelve years old, and he spent much of his childhood in Montreal, Canada. Greg returned home to study at Glasgow University, in the Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies, graduating MA in 1992.

Greg made his acting debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1990. His work includes roles in God Plus Support in the Theatre and Only an Excuse. He is a regular on the comedy circuit. He also ventured into radio as the original presenter of football show, Off the Ball on BBC Radio Scotland and The Eddie Mair Show. As well as writing for Still Game and Chewin The Fat he has written for Channel 4 programme Space Cadets, BBC’s Pulp Video and The Ferguson Theory.

Still Game has transferred successfully onto the big stage and has sold out countless times at The Hydro. The third and final run of the shows Still Game: The Final Farewell was officially announced on 1st November 2018. The ninth and final series of Still Game was screened in 2019 The show won an ‘Outstanding Contribution’ TV award at Scottish Baftas that year.

Away from his work Greg is a bit of a card shark, he plays in competitions, he has won over thirty thousand dollars in competitions and was third in the Scottish Championships in 2002

Greg has been kind of quiet of late, but the good news is he returns to our screens on Hogmanay with a new sketch show. The show is set to bring up all the biggest talking points of this year – from COP26 to the wild swimming phenomenon. The show titled “Queen of the New Year” will star Greg and Robert Florence along with Barbara Rafferty, Clive Russell, Gayle Telfer Stevens, Louise McCarthy, John Gordon Sinclair and Juliet Cadzow, so some familiar faces from Still Game and Burnistoun.

Greg is married to Balamory star Julie Wilson Nimmo, 46, they announced they are to their own production company launch Blue Haven Productions Limited. The latest from Greg and Julie who live in the West End of Glasgow, is they will be teaming up who live in the West End, are appearing together in Olga da Polga, the first-ever television adaptation of Paddington creator Michael Bond’s beloved books. The new 13-part, live-action and animation series is produced by Glasgow-based production company Marakids, and it has been made with the full support of the Bond family.

Greg and Julie have been married since 1999, they met while both were working on the 90s sketch show Pulp Video. Greg says of them;

“We met on sketch shows, and we always laughed a lot. We still do. There are lots of laughs, lots of carry on when we work together.”

Greg and his Still Game sidekick Ford Kiernan launched a whisky, named after their characters Jack and Vioctor a few years back, and the knobs at Jack Daniels objected after the pair later applied to register the name as a trademark for whisky and other drink-related services. The matter ended up going to an arbitrator. The Tennessee-based company claimed the drink, named after Still Game’s two main characters, could confuse customers and make them think they were endorsing the Scotch blend.

The firm argued the name could allow the Scottish whisky to cash in on the recognition of the well-known brand.

Hemphill, who plays the character Victor, provided evidence during the dispute while managing director Justin Welch provided evidence for Jack Daniel’s.

Hemphill said Still Game was a popular show across the UK, particularly in Scotland, arguing that “Jack and Victor” has become synonymous with the BBC programme.

It was a great triumph for the small guy versus golliath, Jack Daniel’s was ordered to pay £3,200 to Jack and Victor Limited, the company used to market the whisky earlier this year.

Greg returned to our screens last spring in Dinosaur Scottish comedy drama television series set in Glasgow the series was nominated for four BAFTA Scotland awards, a second series is in the pipeline. Greg and Robert Florence's sketch show Queen Of The New Year is returning to BBC Scotland on 1st January for the fourth year running.

Looking for a perfect Scottish christama stocking filler, Still Game returns in comic book form titled "Still Game: He Who Hingith Aboot Getteth Hee Haw".

The Demolition Lovers are the couple seen on the cover for MCR’s next album, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge.
