"headcanoning mizu as transmasc is racist because mizu is half japanese" is SO disingenuous
you guys know there are transmasc japanese people right? there are transmasc people who are mixed race? is them existing also racist? should transmascs only be allowed to see similarities to their gender in white people?
#honestly some of you are using 'racism' as a cover to be overtly transphobic and it shows#blue eye samurai#there could be a discussion about interpreting historical gender from a modern lens. but just because bes is set in edo period japan#doesnt mean it isnt ALSO a modern tv show made by people who also did not live in that time period#but really the transmasc discourse (read: overt transphobia) is alive and well in 2023 and it really. Really shows.#my posts#trans#ftm#transandrophobia#100

wanna go drown at the beach?
(based on the poses of the first pic of this editorial by gilles bensimon, and the lighting in this pic by noah dillon) given what's currently going on in blue period world, i think this is a great moment for yatora and yuka to have another beach escapade, like in chapter 20!! i mean, they did say they would be back!
#my art#blue period#yatora#yuka#this is also lowkey inspired by those zaha drawings i posted some days ago... u know light lines against dark background?#i still want to explore more of that contrast and drawing spaces!! gah! blue period really makes me want to do moreee...!#and yukachan does look like gaga in the artpop cover right.... i swear i didnt fucking notice man..... gay#blue period fanart#yatora yaguchi#ryuji ayukawa

Me, praying, for weeks: “God please help me I can’t afford groceries I desperately need a job so I can buy food”
My roommate: “hey Blue are you ever going to cash this $45 tax refund check your mom mailed you in August”
Me: “….not exactly what I meant, God, but I’ll take it”
School email: “hey btw you earned $225 in scholarship money from an additional scholarship and we’re processing the refund for you now, it’ll be in your account tomorrow”
Me: “praise be to God I might actually be able to buy smth besides the two cheapest meals I’ll eat”
#blue chatter#God is good!!!!#do I have a job? no. but I am very lucky to have gotten both of these windfalls bc that’s like. a month of groceries. which lets me cover#other basic expenses beyond the direct need of food#I can pay for gas#and my ADHD meds#I am so lucky#I would dearly like to have a job and for this period of my life to be over but I am very grateful for both of these things

Description de la gravure coloriée:
Toilette en drap satin — La jupe de ce costume en drap bleu de France est disposée en petits plis piqués sur les côtés et le dos; le bas est cerclé de bandes piquées prolongées devant jusqu'à la taille. On garnit le boléro avec des biais de drap blanc brodé et des gros boutons de fantaisie; l'encolure est agrémentée d'un col en dentelle. Les manches demi-longues sont garnies de bandes de drap et de boutons; on souligne les parements d'une Valenciennes froncée.

Ensemble in satin cloth — The skirt of this suit in French blue cloth is arranged in small stitched pleats on the sides and back; the bottom is surrounded by stitched bands extended in front to the waist. The bolero is trimmed with embroidered white cloth bias and large fancy buttons; the neckline is embellished with a lace collar. The half-long sleeves are trimmed with strips of cloth and buttons; we emphasize the facings of a gathered Valenciennes.

been at work for five hours now and a solid 50% of the songs that have played since 9.30am have been subpar covers of songs from the early aughts. it’s like the saddest fucking thing because like i love a good cover but people legit do not know how to make new songs anymore. there’s one beat that’s obviously difficult to translate into a text medium but legitimately every club song (which is most songs because people … aren’t making new songs that aren’t manufactured solely to be played in a nightclub by any bratty rich kid with a turntable among 14 other near-identical songs all also manufactured solely to be played in a nightclub by any bratty rich kid with a turntable) has it because they are quite literally all the same song
and oh my god it’s so fucking depressing. like i really and truly kept an open mind because i didn’t want to be like “back in my day blah blah blah” but like i’m a professional musician and it’s … literally the same song with slight variations and that’s the only song that exists now. that and covers on top of covers on top of covers
(i have to make it clear i am NOT talking about lizzo, she is beautiful and perfect and original and everything she does is magic. i love you lizzo)
#but like oh my god is this it is this the end of music#like as we careen into late stage capitalism it’s like …#things are really and truly only being made for money anymore#writers are banging out these songs as quickly as possible so they can make their quick buck#and half the time the songs have maybe like 4 words total in them bc the rest is just ‘remixed sample i ripped’#also like covers are fine i LOVE a good cover i promise i promise i promise but#the cover of Blue by Eiffel 65#is without a doubt the most soulless cover ive ever heard of anything in my whole life#besides the cover of Sk8r Boi that was done by Ashnikko#where the ENTIRE appeal of the song was that it started off mostly the same#and then suddenly ashnikko says ‘he couldn’t make her CUM’#and i guess that was like for shock effect? or something? and you’re like WHOAAA HOW EDGY#SHE TOOK A BELOVED EMO HIT OF THE 2000S AND MADE IT ABOUT SELF CAREAND ALSO SHE SAYS SWEARS IN IT!#*CARE AND#bc yeah sure THAT’S what makes a cover worth listening to#the fact that it’s hardcore now bc she mentioned sex and swearing#like not to be all old man yells at cloud but#i am so fucking tired man#it feels like a nightmare being in this time period#creativity’s completely dead and it only took 15 years to do it#listening to my parents’ music is different bc like yeah our music and theirs were quite different but#they were both unique and interesting! on both sides! but that’s not the case with the music now#like this is purely from an objective standpoint and the view of a legitimate musician lmao#anyway. rant over i just needed to put that somewhere and ive been trying to put more personal posts—#—on my tumblr lately because i used to do it all the time and people would actually talk to me then#and idk man i’m lonely i crave human connection especially lately#gotta stop self-isolating tbh#anyway. if i put too many tags they’ll get cut off at a certain point so adio#*adios.

Luna full-body reference, with Celestia for comparison.
And original designs for comparison and design notes under the cut:
Tulli worked with me a bit more on Luna. We decided to have her in a regency era dress, which matches the period of time that she was banished during (the 1820s); in stark contrast is Celestia's more modern art deco dress from the 1920s. Also in contrasts: Celestia is structured and rigid with bold lines while Luna is flowing and organic with flowers and rounded laces. Regency dresses are very youthful-looking without a lot of frills and stiff parts, while still remaining very regal and elegant. Her dark fabrics have, Epiphyllum oxypetalums, or "Princesses of the Night," embroidered on them. Her color palette was given a more cool tone to match her original design's palette.
Within the story of the AU, after returning to Canterlot, Luna cuts her hair (the source of a witch's power) short to temper herself. She wears a blue veil meant to look like her show version's hair to cover Nightmare Moon's face, which is always silhouetted in the back of her hair. The blotch on her left breast is meant to reference her cutie mark. Probably a scar from her banishment.

anyway I was thinking about that because I was reading the first volume of wandance, it's a solid Music Manga I guess is a good term for it and the art for the dancing is incredibly dynamic even though I'm never very good at following movements in stills so I still don't actually know what they're meant to be doing most of the time lol (this is true for me of basically any manga where there's movement more important than walking around so I don't think it's the artist's fault at all.)
they actually talk a lot about the main character's stutter, even though it's not like a central focal point it's just a part of his experience, and people are occasionally shitty about it but it's not like he's the class target or anything like that, it's just teens can be pretty thoughtless sometimes. and I like that his friend that's generally the biggest jerk about things in general is also genuinely trying to be supportive of him, like worrying about whether he's having fun and then throwing his support behind him when he's able to see that he is.
I also just generally like Music Stories ofc as long as they're not Completely Obnoxious like that manic pixie headphones girl one I read a while ago. and since it's dance there's some overlap with the good beats of a Sports Story too.
pretty fun. I'd definitely be interested to read more. I wonder if we'll ever figure out what that girl's deal is tbh cuz she's clearly got Something going on but it's been focused on the main character so far. and thank god he does not exhibit a lot of the traits that tend to get on my nerves when we're tied into a male character's head. (for example no obvious male gaze fanservice panels, not constantly obsessing over the girls, etc. just genuinely interested in dance and in the things going on around him.)
#manga opinions#I will say I think the cover blurb doesn't really describe the manga very well#like it is literally accurate for the most part yes#but it describes him a lot like the mc from blue period#deliberately fitting himself into the path of least resistance and being afraid to pursue the things he enjoys because of others#but I really don't get the same vibes tbh#really different guy even if it can technically be summarized similarly#it also describes him as 'smitten' but while he is fascinated by her#he does not act 'in love' like one would expect#he wants to spend time with her and he's comfortable around her#but he's not actively trying to get her attention or show off or worrying about what she thinks of him at all#if anything is the love interest in the first volume it's dance lol

One thing that’s not very realistic about Blue Period is that we never saw Yatora with overgrown roots, stuble and glasses, being tired from exams
#boybalways gets a lil frustrated in the bath or rubs his feet under the cover and that’s all#come one yamaguchi an actual depressed student gets miserable#blue period#yatora yaguchi
