Blue linen dress part 1:

I’m really indulging my linen cravings this summer, starting with a dress! I can’t get a photo to do the fabric justice, but it’s a really lovely sky blue.

The design is inspired by the 19th century artistic dress movement, and the construction is based on 18th century shirts and shifts, but I’m not going for any sort of authenticity here. I am, as usual, winging the pattern to an irresponsible degree—but it’s mostly straight lines, so I remain optimistic.

First step, pulling threads. This is gonna take a while...

#my sewing #blue linen dress #2016 mood #I can't believe how few pictures I have of this dress. even finding these ones took some digging #in the first pic it's layered over my ombre-dyed wrap skirt and under a purchased jean jacket and thrifted scarf #but I can also wear it on its own #it's a princess-seam pattern with little narrow straps and a high-low hem that hits slightly above the knee in front #and slightly below the knee in back #but really the skirt is the feature here #it wraps around the back so it has a total of 11 panels -- 3 in the front and 8 in the back #and the skirt of each panel is cut at a full 90 degrees #so even though it's not very long the skirt is MASSIVE

Do I need more clothes? No, probably not.

But I've got all these squares now. And I did math and adjusted my skirt pattern. And the bodice pieces are already cut out.

And, and... I would have to turn these into an actual quilt if I don't, and I'm pretty much out of materials to do that.

Blue linen dress part 5: Reveal!

Whew, it's finally done! This dress took me way longer to sew than I had planned, but the results are well worth the effort. I love the movement of the skirt and the way the pleats fall!
