🚨EMPIRE OF STORMS ENDING & SPOILERS!!!!!🚨This is nothing & probably a dumb rambling of emotion but my brain keeps thinking on it randomly:
Aelin is last seen wearing a white blouse in the ending of Empire of Storms (before she is stripped and beaten, leaving no trace but said shirt and her blood stains).
Due to timing of everything, odds are she was wearing this in the short time prior to these moments, specifically at dawn when her and Rowan got married. … She probably wore whatever she was wearing already (in the moments before she asks the question that left off a cliffhanger of dying sparks yet beautiful things)… She wouldn’t have had a dress, odds are she wouldn’t own anything white (lbr that color would both be dysfunctional, distracting, & impossible to keep clean while going through marshes & bloodbaths) let alone anything blue or new (all “old” heirlooms are long since gone)… however, something borrowed, something white… she could probably do.
And since we already know how frequently she likes to “borrow” (steal) Rowan’s shirts (honestly can’t blame her for it🤷‍♀️😂 stolen boyfriends tees are just MORE cozy OKAY?!) so, she was probably wearing a white, borrowed, shirt already (as she was curled up & cozy lying on the floors to look at maps with him) in the hours prior to spontaneously (though it was long coming) getting married. + we know she can turn anything into an outfit so it’d work as a dress with a belt or something😂
Which leads to the thing that keeps nagging at my mind:
1. Was her something borrowed & white one of his shirts🥹 (is it just me or is that too romantically adorable?)
2. She would be going off into a war she does not believe she will survive & still choosing/taking/keeping/carrying a piece of him with her to whatever end, to ground herself when he cannot, and avoid breaking the promise of staying with him as long & far as she can.
3. The image & symbolism of what occurs & is found: the (what we’re calling for aesthetics sake) wedding “dress” covered in blood — His shirt covered in her blood. Something stolen, & never returned, something changed or ruined that can never go back to before… at least not in the same ways.
And 4. Symbolism/metaphors for how he is covered in as much blood as her. It is their wound. It hurt him just as much. … And yet, still he lets it go; himself, the pain, the fear, the past, the shirt and trades it all for hope. For the promise he is making & keeping. For the terrible places they’ll go. For the hope that somehow some way she will find a place with a little less pain even if he has to give every piece of his soul for it. And the progress of how far he has come; for in all he has to mourn, every trigger, confusion, hit, all amid calamity; he does not choose to be afraid, nor to choose rage, or repeat the past. He chooses hope; he chooses her. He chooses them.
And fates be damned, blood stains, scars, and all that has been & to come. He will find a way.

stone and his variants & the type of dress they would wear and in which situation
Canon!Stone would wear a floor-length black dress when he needs to attend a military ball and he would wear a simple yellow sundress inside his own house, just to feel cute. Even with the dresses he wears to attend military balls, the style is very simplistic and doesn't draw too much attention to him.
Girl Dad!Stone is the same as Canon!Stone, but he once wore a sundress out in public because a mom in the PTA said boys shouldn't wear dresses. The sundress was pink because the mom also said pink is only for girls. Saira was very proud of her father instead of being embarrassed.
Grim Reaper!Stone, he took some time to wear any dress because as he says "weapons don't choose the clothes they wear." But when he starts living for himself and starts trying out new things to figure out what he likes, he finds he really does love wearing dresses. He gets ballgowns, sundresses, any kind of dresses. He has this beautiful black sparkly ballgown that Heartthrob rented a castle for so Grim Reaper could wear the ballgown as they stayed there for a cute little vacation. He loves flowy dresses, whether they're short like sundresses or they're long.
Criminal!Stone usually only wears dresses when he's attending a gala with the mafia boss. This because he usually goes out and deals with whoever the mafia boss wants dealt with, so he doesn't want to dirty a dress with blood. But the dresses he does wear, they're revealing. Every single one of them either has a slit in the middle or at the side of his legs.
Baker!Stone wears sundresses because those won't accidentally catch on fire when he wears them while baking in his bakery. He gets weird looks sometimes, but he doesn't care. He gets more compliments than insults and he just loves sharing where he got his dresses when a customer asks.
Feral!Stone loves wearing only flowy long dresses, preferably red so no one can really see the bloodstains that got on the dresses from when he was hunting in them. He wants every single pair of eyes on him, so they're envious. (No, I don't know why he's so arrogant.)
Serial Killer!Stone actually doesn't wear many dresses because he lives in an abandoned film studio. There are very few dresses in there, dresses that were left there when the film studio was abandoned. He only wears them when he wants to blend in so that he doesn't get arrested (cause he's a wanted man). They're outlandish dresses, colorful and frilly, but somehow they make him blend in with the crowd so he doesn't mind.
Experiment!Stone is already considered a freak with his half-tiger-half-human mutated form, he doesn't give a shit about being looked weirdly at for wearing a dress. Whatever dress catches his eye, he wears. He tends to gravitate towards frilly dresses because it can hide his striped tiger tail and the only reason he wants to hide his tail is because he can't control it from showing his emotions. Even with his mutated form, he looks very pretty.
Vampire!Stone since he covers every inch of his skin so as to not accidentally burn in the sunlight, he wears very modest dresses. You know those cute long-sleeved dresses? Yeah, he loves those. Floor-length dresses when he's going somewhere where it's formal and one of those jumpsuit dresses with pants when it's not exactly formal but he still wants to make a statement. It goes well with the black balaclava that he wears.
Werewolf!Stone is another one who wears primarily sundresses, simply because he helps his pack members with their pups and thus is running around after them. Sundresses are just perfect for him because it gives him room to move and chase after the pups while playing but also it gives him the cuteness he's looking for.
Cult Leader!Stone wears dresses because his followers asked about how he feels with traditional gender roles and that was his answer to it all. He wears the flashiest, yet most modest, dress he can find and he makes it a day for everyone who wants to feel more comfortable wearing dresses (regardless of their gender). He's huge on "clothes have no gender" and he regularly encourages his followers to wear whatever.

Do you consider deleted scenes to be canon? Or since they weren’t included in the official cut, do you consider them more malleable, and therefore does it depend what’s *in* the scenes? Do the angles presented by extra footage fit into your idea of Nat’s character?
I try to. But only when they don't directly contract canon that DOES end up on the screen. And also when it don't interfere with an idea I like better.
I always like to have canon to play with- even if it means I'm figuring out ways around it, it gives me a roadmap, which I find more satisfying than just making things up out of whole cloth. And you can tear Nat and Fury's "keep the circle small" conversation from my cold dead hands. That told us so much about both of them, and it is a crime that it wasn't included. But that's really more character beats than background.
So much of Nat's storyline has been cut from the movies that the novelizations and cut scenes are a lot of what we CAN use to get Natasha's background. I still haven't done the MCU rewatch I'm planning before seeing BW (side note, would anyone be interested in doing a marathon viewing party over the long 4th of July weekend?), but unless I'm forgetting something, the majority of what we know about Natasha's history is pieced together from comics canon, that one episode of Agent Carter, and the MCU cutting room floor. In terms of actual on-screen canon about Natasha's history, there's nothing in IM2, oblique references in Avengers, Winter Soldier background in Cap2, Wanda's vision and the following conversation with Bruce in Age of Ultron, nothing in Civil War, nothing in Infinity War, and then the ballet shoes and the "daughter of Ivan" in Endgame, right?
I feel like as Nat fans we have, collectively, adopted a pretty clear idea of what the Red Room was like, which has been helpful for fan discussions, but has kind of blurred the lines for me, and I keep having to remind myself of how much we don't actually know. It seems like at least part of what I've accepted will be countered by the Black Widow movie itself, given that Nat and Yelena are tiny when they go on their three-year mission and tween Natasha doesn't seem as mercenary as I'd been imagining.
Even with what we've gotten from the text, while the early reviews say it fits well into the established MCU canon, I'm not sure whether that's broadly or including the deep cuts that Nat fans have made to figure out her backstory. Will Madame B be a part of the Red Room here, or was she a manifestation of all the authority figures combined into one by Wanda's magic? Will Natasha visiting her parents' grave still make sense, or does it no longer fit her history? Will we see how Natasha was "unmade" as a child or will that turn out to have been a metaphor?
Ultimately I feel like all of my answers are going to hinge on "what does the new movie give us to contradict or complement what we have?" which is a profoundly unsatisfying answer, even to me.

the twins do a lot to stay humble, but not being the center of attention anymore is an adjustment, whether they ever wanted to be or not, & sometimes they’re the bloodstains/ballgowns/trashing the hotel room Royals that Lorde warned everybody about
