A piece I didn't quite finish for last month's bird OC. Close enough though, so have a spooky.

Harvestman was mostly active before the war between Cyclonia and the Free Atmos, going MIA only a few years into it. However before that, he had a reputation for tormenting a different threat to the Skies:

Murk Raiders.

As always, more under the cut.

The pirates of Terra Deep learned fairly early on in the man's tenure not to mess with Cyclonian ships. He'd lure them into trapping decoy ships so that he could sneak onto them, and using Magnesis crystals he would open up the jaws to free his crew, much to the confusion of the pirates.

Then the 'fun' would begin.

The Harvestman would crush their ship hulls, tear through crewmen, and destroy their weaponry with his magic. Since no one knew how he fought, it was almost impossible to counteract his attacks. The Murk Raiders soon decided it was best to avoid Cyclonia's vessels altogether.

He rarely, if ever, left survivors. The ships he ravaged would be set to drift back into the fogs of Terra Deep to be discovered.

One survivor he did leave behind was none other than a young Captain Scabulous before his captain-ing days.

They all breathed a sigh of relief when this monster of a man was finally shot down into the Wastelands.

this month's entry for @far-side-skies' bird oc challenge!

except this is no bird, Gabriel Pelangmarah hails from the far south of Atmos and was the proud medic of the former Storm Hawks.

The oldest member at age 40, Gabriel was a field medic part of Atmos' main army during the War of Burning Glass before he decided to semi-retire into life with the Storm Hawks as their on-site healer. His mantra of "Do some harm, take no shit" extended to his fellow members, that staff of his packed a punch, especially when he was mad at them for pulling stupid stunts and walking out with stupid injuries.

Any and all times he went out of the Condor to help in battles he usually turned out unscathed, mainly because nobody wants to deal with 2.5 metres of an angry elephant with a thwacking stick charging at you.

Despite all of that he was still a softie, anyone who needed a nice chat could come into his room or clinic and they'd be greeted with calming tea, and grandma candies and walking out with lighter shoulders and a pat on the back.

Shame about him dying first...guess that means no one could have addressed...the elephant in the room....

Also idk what au I'm even crafting at this point but they own where the Dads are monsters. And Henry is a Harpy. I have a Harpy hierarchy/species guide I was making for my own use/OCS that helps categorize harpies based on like.....their heritage??

It's 3 tiers and it's Matriarch Harpies, Mother's Blood Harpies, and Mother's Tears Harpies. They're all based on certain depictions of harpies in media/myths, with Matriarch being the least human and Tears being the most human.

My OC Vali is a Matriarch harpy, and they're based on ancient green myths/"classic" harpies which tend to just be large bird months with a human's face and head. Mother's Blood Harpies are more human but still pretty large and birdlike, having human torsos and heads but still majorly Bird. Mother's Tears Harpies are like the modern day Harpy, with wings for arms and feathers/bird feet, but human torsos, legs, and heads, and they tend to be the smallest/most human sized.

Maybe I'll make a diagram someday but it's IRRELEVANT bc it's just A CONCEPT I MADE FOR OC NONSENSE. the point is I'm using is for Henry as a Harpy and I think he'd be a Blood or Tears Harpy because it mimicks his elf heritage. I think he'd be a Tears Harpy while Bearry would be Blood Harpy for the sake of it?

This looks absolutely amazing! I'm honestly beyond words.

Holy hell, I got this beauty done in one day woooo! now my arm and hand hurt XD worth it (4 hours of work). These two badass’s are Chieftain Lupin of the Leperi race (custom race by one my friends, Thanks Grace!) and his trusty and ‘terrifying’ Wyvern Da’gar, and they are for @far-side-skies monthly bird challenge

Race info (currently wip)

The Leperi (or Leperians) are a semi tribal people of anthropomorphic bunnies and/or hares known for their bond with the noble Wyvern and their skilled archery. They are agile and quick thinking but prefer to keep to themselves. Living peacefully in the mountains far away from everyone and everything, they rely on the natural resources the land provides. They live in mound shaped burrows in the snowy mountains. Appearance Females are smaller with droopy ears and fluffier neck and chest while the males of the species are larger, have erect ears and less fluff on their chest and more on there face, resembling facial hair.

Storm Hawks Bird OC Challenge - March 2023

Hey everyone! February's over, it's time for a new bird! This month, I've picked one that was actually suggested to me here on Tumblr. Twice!

Thank you @grimm-the-6th and @malarkay for bringing this bird to my attention, the Blood Pheasant (Ithaginis cruentus)!

Native to the Eastern Himalaya mountains, the blood pheasant (aka blood partridge) is currently the only species within its genus. It's the state bird of Sikkim (formerly the Kingdom of Sikkim) in Northern India. Unlike the common pheasant, this bird is monogamous, and there are 12 subspecies.

I hope everyone has fun with this one! The deadline is Sunday the 26th of March, and as always, the rules, an optional colour palette and extra images are included under the cut.

Minimum requirements for drawn entries to be put in the winner’s vote are a name, occupation, the character’s home/birth Terra and at least one paragraph (or about 100 words) of written backstory.

Minimum requirements for written (i.e. written dossiers without art, or mini-fics for the character) are 500 words including backstory and appearance. Feel free to make a mini-fic out of this challenge, I’ll make sure to link it with the final collage as well.

Entrants who are part of the Storm Hawks discord server will have the chance of getting a custom role for the next month! If you’re not part of the discord server, please ask for an invite if you’re interested.

You’re not expected to create a character from scratch for this challenge. If you’ve got an older character concept that’s been collecting dust or that you’d like to take the opportunity to revamp, feel free! The goal of this challenge is to inspire people.

Collaborations are allowed! Same rules apply, the only addition is that you and your partner(s) just need to make note of who was responsible for what part of the character

Make sure to tag me in your entries and also DM me with a link to your entry. Tumblr is not always reliable about notifications for this sort of thing, and I don’t want to risk missing anyone’s entries, so better safe than sorry.

The group collage of entries, and the winner’s vote are opt-in. Participation of those parts of this challenge are not mandatory.

The winner of the vote will receive a free sketch piece of their character from me.
