Internet Tip

If you want to block some websites (or social media) temporarily or often on your laptop or PC, I can recommend the browser add-on Leech Block NG. It's for free, it has several options for the blocking and it's easy to handle. It is also available for several different web browers.

Not only is Russia banning websites but it is now trying to block sites which describe how to get around those blocks.

The Russian government has granted the country’s federal censorship agency, Roskomnadzor, permission to restrict access to websites that contain information about circumventing Internet censorship. According to the resolution, which is accessible on the government’s official legal information portal, Rosomnadzor is now allowed to block sites with materials “about ways [and] methods of obtaining access to information resources and/or information-telecommunications networks to which access is restricted within the territory of the Russian Federation.”

Of course there are always VPNs. And people can apparently make YouTube vids where they can describe how to get around Putin's censors.

Speaking of Putin's dictatorship in Russia, yet another high ranking member of the country's military has been found dead under suspicious circumstances.

Former Russian Commander Who Criticized Putin Found Dead in Mysterious Circumstances

A former Russian commander who once critizised President Putin for running a “third-rate” air force, has been found dead alongside his wife at their home in the village of Adzhievsky in Stavropol region. According to reports, Lieutenant General Vladimir Sviridov, 68, and his wife Tatyana, 72, had been dead for around a week before their bodies were found on Nov. 15. The Russian Telegram channel Baza said there were no signs of violence and no toxic substances were found in the blood of either victim, according to preliminary tests. “Gas service workers have already taken measurements and no excess of the permissible concentration of harmful substances has been detected,” Baza wrote. It added: “What caused the death of Vladimir and Tatyana Sviridov is still unknown.”

Putin is running a terrorist mafia-style state. The number of high ranking business executives, officials, and military people who have died under suspicious circumstances has been unusually high since the start of 2022. Being even mildly critical of Putin is a capital offense in Russia.

According to a Wikipedia page on the topic, the late Gen. Sviridov is death number 46 (if I counted correctly) of prominent Russians to die suspiciously since January of 2022.

Yeah, if you like Putin's Russia, you'd love a second term of his stooge Donald Trump in the US.

USEFUL WEBSITES FOR WRITERS

Writing With Color: Helps with writing about culture, ethnicity, and religion. Overall, it gives advice on how to write about diversity.

Name Generator: As the name says, it helps you build names for your characters. Very useful if you cannot think of names for your characters!

KathySteinemann: The 'archive.pdf' section helps you with synonyms in case you struggle to find the right word for your sentences (also to avoid using redundant words).

Spwickstrom: Similar to the previous one, this one provides grammar tips. Extremely helpful when finding phrases, verbs, conjunctions, adjectives, and so on.

Servicescape: The perfect website if you're experiencing writer's block. It provides writing prompts. It helps you spark creativity when it comes to writing.

They blocked me because they couldn't actually explain their own argument, but just to clarify, even if curating your own space was "forming an echo chamber" that is not inherently a bad thing and stating it is dismisses the fact that fandom spaces are not and do not have to be forced to be activism or awareness spaces.

I can have a Tumblr account where I see literally nothing but thirst traps of celebrities. I can have a Tumblr account where I only see positive content about a morally complex or morally unsound character. I can have a Tumblr account where I do not see even an iota of real life politics.

None of that is bad.

I am still aware that that character is morally complex. I do not need to be exposed to character analysis or opposition in order to be aware that character is still morally complex. I do not need to deliberately expose myself to negativity about that character in order to not magically become a raging axe-wielding murderer.

Echo chambers are not always bad. Stating that you absolutely must expand and expose your personal space to things you do not wish to see literally contradicts the entire point of online curation and curating your own space. It is literal contradictory hypocrisy.

"You're allowed to curate your own space as long as you actually don't curate it too well!"

The implication that people need to be constantly exposed to things they don't want to be violates literally core point of curation and emotional respite.

look i understand if people just don't like the idea of billford, i think we have a different internal concept of what shipping means (they're not good for each other at all but i need to dissect their dynamic like a bug. you understand. it's fun) but it's fine to avoid things you don't like, good for you genuinely

however people saying they like. don't see it. like. i'm not saying there's no platonic way to read it, i'm aroace spec myself i'm all for reading things in different ways. but i do think saying they weren't partners in any queer sense at all is trying too hard to go against what the narrative is trying to say, or missing it. somehow

and the previous context of that joke within the show is that it's about an ex wife. what connection do you think the text is trying to get you to make.

and that's just from a writing point of view. not even noting that from an in universe perspective ford likely knows the joke from the same source as stan. and is therefore. placing himself in that role of the joke are you seeing where i'm coming from

(not to mention bill's side of this text which is. extremely manipulative but also does not read very platonic. again, it can technically be read as platonic! bill literally can manipulate ford's feelings. but the specific wording used is very much meant to look like possessive ex partner wording whether the character means it that way or not. it's coding. look again i'm not saying it was good for them i'm just saying there was something there.)

and then there's also the divorce/break up/rock bottom input on the website. like. how else is that supposed to be read. and the corresponding page in the book itself.

the language being used here. like yes he's saying it in a joking way but then there's the other side that isn't joking which is him crying at the bar. it's the both sides (the very coded language on top of the very genuine emotions and dynamic beneath)

i know most of us are on the same page with this i've just seen a couple people saying they don't see it when this is some of the most clear cut coding i've ever seen. and these are just the things that explicitly reference a relationship off the top of my head i'm not even including the general vibes of Everything

tl;dr it's barely even subtext anymore it's all but straight up text. what's not clicking have we forgotten what coding is (lighthearted i just enjoy the phrase what's not clicking. what's not clicking)

WRITING ADVICE THAT I HEARD (THAT ABSOLUTELY WORKS FOR ME)

Okay, so I am writing these tips that I have learned/heard from other authors. It worked for me, I just want to share it just in case other people might find it helpful too!

Know the ending of your story before starting it.

Whenever you have an idea, WRITE IT. IMMEDIATELY! (before you could even lose it or worse, forget it)

READ MORE !!! (get inspiration from other people's books)

Write EVERYTHING. Just correct/edit them later when you are finished.

Explore other genres. (do not get stuck with one genre. instead, read/write other genres. you never know, you might be better at writing other genres)

Similar to the first one, CREATE OUTLINES PER CHAPTERS !! I REPEAT, CREATE OUTLINES. (in this way, it would be easier to write because you have a summary of what is going to happen in each chapter.)
