Joke request: can we add a confetti or other fun visual effect to the block button?

The ability to block people, tags, and keywords is so powerful for curating our online experience and I love that about Tumblr. And I think it would be funny to celebrate and encourage this self-care with virtual confetti. Imagine.

A joke request! Who doesn’t love a joke request?

We had never thought of this before, but it’s definitely an idea. Perhaps even an April Fool’s idea. It would be a lot of fun, that’s for sure. We’ll throw this in the mix with other joke requests and fun ideas and see what comes of it.

So.....

Twitter recently eliminated (or rather completely nerfed) the block button.

They also added a clause to their TOS which grants them an unlimited license to any and all artwork uploaded to their site for any and all uses (including, but not limited to, advertisement and AI training.)

And how did I find out? When I tried logging onto Bluesky this morning, I couldn't because the server's had crashed from the rapid influx of new user activity.

sometimes i realize just how great the block button really is, and trust me i know it’s not magic, and for some situations it’s useless but

spam or bot accounts? report and block

people with views that you don’t like? block

someone who won’t stop bothering you? block

people who you just wanna block for whatever reason? block!!!

then you can breathe for just a moment, and hope the people you’ve blocked don’t try to do anything further

the block button prevents a person from contacting you, and stops you from seeing their posts if you don’t want to! with just one click, it’s like the person was never there!

People putting up boundaries are not declarations of hate. Maybe they are uncomfortable or annoyed, but those emotions do not equate to hate.

People are allowed to request that certain things not be mentioned around them.

People are allowed to request that they don't get called a certain name or title.

People are allowed to request that they not be touched.

People are allowed to request that their things not be touched.

And if you can't handle any boundaries being set between you and another person, then perhaps your interactions with that people should be taken into consideration. Do you really want to put that kind of resentment between yourselves? Spite is an expression of resentment based in disrespect, by the way.

This also applies to people you don't know personally, like content creators.
