BOOK 7: Blitzed by Norman Ohler

Holy shit… I had this book recommended to me recently and instantly had to pick it up. The way Ohler paints a disturbing picture of drugs in Nazi Germany is enthralling. I had no idea prior how much methamphetamines played a role in the blitzkrieg as well as Hitler’s own decline into addiction throughout the war as a result of his own personal doctor’s “treatment”. Fascinating to watch an entire fascist country lean into hard drugs to accomplish their deplorable goals. One can only wonder if Elon Musk is taking inspiration from the early years in blissful ignorance of the grotesque chemical dependence that followed…

I had *almost* finished this book early last year but i had to put it down, not because that it was bad or anything negative, but because the author had done such an amazing job at chronicling Hitler’s drug use (meth, cocaine, heroine, morphine, he did every drug at the end). Reading about this megalomaniac and his truly disturbed mind even for a sober dictator was starting to be difficult to sit through and read. I do encourage anyone who is interested to read this; it is meticulously researched and cited, Norman Ohler writes fiction usually and i was totally enthralled by the absolute trainwreck that is Hitler’s mental state near the end. His drug use should be more widely known as he allowed meth to be used and officially doled out to German soldiers during WWII.
