TBH my ‘vision’ of Maglor is more of a music nerd than any kind of drama queen fanon makes him out to be sometimes.

Like someone who just doesn’t see the political ramifications other people saw in his songs, when it really was just a good metaphor. Someone with messy hair and pulls it back without even brushing it before going to a royal festival. The geeky, melancholic version of Finrod in his own family. A Maglor so obsessed with music and words he thinks about the sheer art of the Oath’s words rather than the context within itself or what it entails. Someone who wasn’t aware of how the Noldolantë could have been taken the wrong way and didn’t even finish it before he vanished from history (or, who knows, he probably forgot to bring the lyrics written with him when the Gap burned), probably had a meltdown when he realized that he had lost it. Someone who loves music so much that, after all is finished, he fades while singing, because it was all he had left.

Someone who once had a joyful, innocent spirit which was brutally killed after he did.

I think a big misunderstanding is the power people give Curly to actually change things about the way the pony express operates or could’ve done things on the Tulpar.

We are talking about a company that docks pay for bad synergy despite mandated psych evals that should tell which staff members would work well together, only allots for 5 hours of sleep despite having literally no other tasks to truly do and locks all resources behind the access of one person. The last one is likely to manage resources and make it easier to justify collective punishment and blaming one person for it; someone needs something in “excess” or the captain gives in? It’s all on them your pay is docked. Instant resentment.

It’s insidious how the company works, it’s by design to distract you from coming after them, to force tensions to line their own pockets. With all the restrictions and forced interactions, altercations are bound to happen. 5 hours of sleep a day, limited sources of entertainment, no real tasks… the monotony alone would cause bad cabin fever, mix that with just only one absolute mediator and you get the exact environment that allows shit like in the game to happen.

The idea he could just complain and try to throw his weight around to get them to dig into their pocket for the crews comfort is laughable and misses the predatory and dehumanizing aspect of capitalism the Pony Express represents. Curly was and is still just another asset to them. Being a top show pony doesn’t mean he’s anywhere close to the actual top. He is the top of the working ladder, not whoever’s in corporate, he wouldn’t even be on the bottom step unlike what Jimmy perceives. The resounding recommendations he would get are almost mocking as they throw him out like nothing just like the rest. Being a shitty fucking company, how much do you bet they’d mean anything anyways, especially since he wanted to leave the field all together.

He made a fuss and they didn’t listen, he says he should’ve done more but you can tell he knows it wouldn’t have changed anything. Jobs like this are willing to make a sacrifice if it means even a penny more. Curly makes a bigger fuss they likely would’ve just found an “unrelated” reason to fire him, hired a more pliable guy or, terrifyingly, promoted Jimmy. The company was failing, going to shut down whether anything happened on the ship or not. But knowing that they were shutting down and that everyone, including him, would be out of a job with this being their last paycheck, he had to factor in not destroying the last bit of their financial stabilities combined with every other issue on the vessel and his own. He gets another cryopod or locks and then he has to break to them that they are not only fired but there will be substantial cuts to their paychecks due to the “upgrades” (things that already should’ve been in place on their part) on top of anything else that could be docked along the way.

You can blame him for saying it so early into the trip but then again, if he mentioned it later who’s to say it wouldn’t have been worse? On the capitalism side alone how would people in a galaxy away from home, out of a job and already stir crazy react? Don’t get me started on how Jimmy would have reacted if he realized he only had two days left to fix what would be a very hard to miss “problem” in his head…

I can’t even consider explaining this as devils advocate because it’s just facts of the world we and they live in and factors that heavily affected the situation. People are just so quick to make claims on the ease of the choices when P.E literally makes it hard to choose to do anything but suck it up.

yesterday I realized that my allo best friend is literally micro dosing on experiencing the thing that most aro and ace people go through since the vast majority of the people she hangs out with are either aro , ace , or both so any time she's talking abt her crush on someone shes like wow im so weird no one else ever talks abt the people they like and I literally looked at her and i was like dude . literally you're the "normal" one here . you just keep surrounding yourself with aro and ace people you are just being allo this is so funny

the little scene we got of team rwby talking about ruby's outburst was very telling with everyone's reaction.

blake didn't say much but she was sympathetic, and it makes sense - she's no stranger to depression or to lashing out and running from the people you care about. and she was still playing the leadership role in ruby's absence, mediating yang's frustration and keeping everyone together.

i think it's fascinating that yang was the angriest over it. yang loves ruby more than anything, but i think there is truth to the idea that the nature of her relationship with ruby as her big sister and protector made it harder for her to understand this side of ruby, because to yang ruby has always been her happy, brave little sister who she protected from the horrors of the world. and now she must be hating herself for that blindness (though of course it's not her fault).

and weiss seemed to understand ruby best. she got that ruby felt isolated, and put on a pedestal, and that she didn't think she could talk to them. and i think she gets it because as ruby's partner she feels responsibility over it. since volume 1, weiss has only ever wanted to be a good teammate and a good partner to ruby, and now she must feel like she failed.

in addition to lrb, i don't necessarily entirely agree with that post but i also don't... disagree with that post. in terms of my disagreement, i think there's value in having a leader who can inspire a group of talented, intelligent people and keep the team pointed in the right direction through the chaos. after all, that's essentially what varric also would have done had he survived. so i don't really doubt rook's place in the team, or why they lead.

(especially since, contrary to what people were saying in the notes of that post, rook does have something no one else does: a connection to solas. they are the only one who can talk to him and get information on ghilan'nain, elgar'nan, and the blight, and it is those conversations with him that the team can then work off of to make a plan. i think it's disingenuous to say that rook has no Special Circumstances that makes them the leader of the veilguard. no less special than previous world-saving protags, at least.)

however i do think more should have been done by the writers to make rook... more notable? when we first got news about the game, i thought we were going to be playing as an established member of a faction; if not a prodigy, at least someone who had done the work and was making a name for themself. then we actually get into the game and.... well. The faction reps at least vaguely know you, but in several instances you're barely on the radar. mercar is so low on the food chain they don't even know the viper's real name (despite that being information he'll give a completely unaffiliated rook basically as soon as they meet), and laidir is so replaceable that taash hasn't even ever heard of them. aside from your Big Fuck Up that got you sent to work with varric in the first place, there's no real indication that rook has ever done something worth noting, there's no skills or contacts or stories that can give you a leg up.

i feel like there was a missed opportunity—in the game, the factions feel more or less useless. rook gets some flavour dialogue that can be really fun, but they have no substantial impact on the story or in any of the quests. thorne can conscript the mayor of d'meta's crossing in a one-off unique interaction, and then for the rest of the game there's nothing for anyone else. rook is a [insert faction here], and it doesn't do anything. varric might as well have just grabbed a random guy off the street and said "you've got this, kid."
