i sometimes think about how one of the first things stede did upon waking up and meeting the charming stranger was inviting him into his secret closet and then in the same episode they not only swap clothes but exchange rings too

Sackcloth was donned in the Jewish Bible as a sign of deep mourning, repentance, or humility. Xtianity also used it in a punishing kind of way afaik.

It's basically like a purposely crappy shirt with "I'm really really really sorry" written on it in sharpie. Although with Ed, maybe more like "my bad :( :( :(" lmaooo

halloween is starting early here in my digital sketchbook and how could i not honour my favourite artist's favourite artist? i think izzy looks quite fetching in his drag makeup.

This leather jacket costume is worn two times in Our Flag Means Death, First worn on Rhys Darby as Stede Bonnet in Discomfort in a Married State (2022) and later worn on Taika Waititi as Blackbeard in The Art of F**kery (2022)

since apparently, my brain is not going to let the costume design for Stede go any time soon let's continue making this a HUGE ass deal...

So it just occurred to me that the blue shirt of sex and the leathers outfit are actually callbacks to the color palette that dominated Stede's outfits in s1 - his actual suits that we see him wear are all either shades of brown/red or blue

I keep saying that Stede's outfits are showing his progression through his own self-acceptance and self-determination and I think this might be the BEST example of that...

This is literally a manifestation of how Stede is able to reconcile who he has always been and who he has become...

The fact that this outfit doesn't come about until after he has fully reconciled with Ed is SO important because it's an indication of how he can finally see how Ed sees him...

The callback of you wear fine things well AND the fact that that was the first flashback we see from Stede's perspective is SO important...this is proof to Stede that BOTH he and Ed recognize how their relationship progressed and developed. That he hasn't been making all this up in his head...

BUT more than that it's an indication to Stede that Ed liked him BEFORE he started being the best captain/pirate...

The blue shirt and brown leathers outfit is Stede's ultimate evolution where he accepts who he is fully...that he's allowed to keep the things he's always loved about himself even while he grows and changes...that being your best self doesn't have to mean giving up everything you may have enjoyed before

I want to know what Ed's wearing around his neck! It almost looks like a locket, but it's on some type of cord that doesn't look like jewelry. I don't think it would be a pocket watch and those aren't worn around the neck typically anyway.

Also interesting....that tunic he's wearing seems to be made of some kind of burlap like you'd see a shipping sack made of - it has the stampings on the sleeve - fashioned a shirt from scraps of canvas sack? Or maybe sail? But why? someone smarter than me feel free to chime in.
