[img text - Another thing want to talk about is how the notion that Decolonial theory and praxis is deemed irrelevant, illegitimate or invalid by many in the west because First Nations people have been reduced to a
"statistical minority".
This is genocide apologia.
What this position says, is that a foreign occupation of a people and their lands can be legitimised through Genocide. What it says, is that someone else's land, resources and very existence can be bought with the blood of these same people.
What it is explicitly saying is that an illegitimate and illegal occupation suddenly becomes legitimate once they manage to massacre a certain amount of the Indigenous population and replace them with their own.
Colonial chauvanists and genocide apologists will try and refute and argue this position and perform all manner of feats of mental gymnastics in order to justify their illegitimate claims to illegally occupied lands - but at the end of the day the fact remains that euro-supremacist notions of Terra Nullius and Manifest Destiny underpin their arguments, arguments built on the stolen lands that have been stained with my people's blood. ]

CALIFORNIA POLICE OFFICER IN SPOTLIGHT FOR BODY SLAMMING LADY OUTSIDE GROCERY STORE
A police officer’s violent actions in southern California are being investigated after video footage showed the white cop brutalizing an unarmed Black woman for the apparent offense of recording officers detaining her husband.
The video footage recorded by a witness began by showing the woman holding a cell phone and filming officers handcuffing her husband, who can be heard repeatedly asking “why” he was being detained outside the supermarket in Lancaster.
After two officers struggled to handcuff the husband, one walked directly to the wife. When the camera follows the officer, he’s shown grabbing the wife by the back of her neck before violently flinging her to the ground.
The person recording can be heard yelling for the cop to “get off of her” and not to hit her to no avail.
The cop is next shown kneeling on the wife’s neck, evoking horrific imagery from Derek Chavin’s police murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
As with the woman’s husband, the officer struggled to place her in handcuffs even though she wasn’t resisting.
Her husband can be heard in the background pleading for the officer to stop. He also said she has cancer. Neither claim prevented the officer from accosting the woman standing at least 20 feet away from the officers when they were handcuffing her husband.

How do you feel about the increase in really weird NSFW ads on here (advertising panels that look like sexual encounters, and AI art apps that pride themselves on porn) but will take down NSFW posts from their users, even if it isn't technically sexual.
i hate all social media and it's consistent prioritising the advertisers over the users and the internet simply was a better place before capitalism sunk its hooks into it
#i could write essays about how capitalism ruined the internet.#i was actually talking to someone earlier today about how youtube was kind of effectively ruined by monetisation.#and they were raised in the soviet union and we had a bit of a talk about how art was better because it wasn't for profit.#the people who made art made it because they wanted to do it and because they loved it.#she said that communism was terrible for every aspect of life for her. people's lives under communism wasn't pretty.#but the art was better. and i feel like it's true for the internet – it was better when it was a free-for-all.#the companies didn't know how to exploit it yet and turn it into a neverending profit-driven hellscape.#people created content because they wanted to. because they wanted to make something silly to make people laugh.#not for profit. not for gain. not for numbers. not to further their career.#i miss the days of newgrounds and youtube before monetisation.#capitalism has soiled everything that's joyful and good in this world.#people should be able to share whatever they want.#people should be able to tell any story they want without the fear of being silenced by advertisers.#that's what made the internet so beautiful before. anyone could do anything and we all had equal footing.#but now we're victims of the algorithm. and it makes me sick.#i'm quitting my job in social media. i'm quitting it. it makes me too depressed. i have an existential crisis every freaking day.#every day i wake up and say "ah. this is the fucking hell we live in#i'm so sorry i feel so passionate about this.#social media is a black hole and it is actively destroying humanity. forget ai. social media is what's doing it.#i miss how beautiful the internet used to be. it should've been a tool for good. but it's corrupt and evil now.#sci speaks

While it’s important to not let the ( suspected; not yet convicted) shooters politics overshadow what he did it’s weird how many people believe that the revolution will begin with people of color and other minorities “getting over themselves” and keeping their mouths shut about his views altogether

I understand the misery / feelings for women to need to do something regarding the justified anger they have but I don't think starting an 4b movement in the U.S is the right move.
1) separatism from men because they voted against women's rights isn't a solution when much of the votes that Trump got from his election were from white women. Presumably, the white women that voted for Trump won't be participating in this movement, so this kinda limits the whole plan.
2) This kinda falls into bioessentialist thinking of "women are pure and virtuous and just need to separate from men who are evil and make their own *feminine* utopia", which is obviously false as shown in point 1 with white women voting for Trump. Plus, if you keep falling into this thinking, you run the trap of thinking patriarchy and misogyny can all disappear if we stop associating with men, which isn't the case since women can internalize misogyny and uphold patriarchy. Not to mention, you might end up with very rigid ideas of gender, which pretty much brings you down a transphobic (especially transmisogynistic) path.
Also, it's not like this is an entirely new concept! It has similar reasoning with the concept of political lesbians, which is abstaining from male relationships (hence, identifying as a lesbian "politically".) I believe this came from the idea of seeing women as an oppressed class (which is understandable from the conditions women dealt with during the 1970s) and hence this would be like a labor strike from heterosexual relationships, which was all good and fine but the actual movement harbored a lot of homophobia and lesbiphobia ironically. Reading feminist theory and you would see history repeat itself over and over again in interesting ways, luckily we can learn from it!
But I digress, if you want to decenter men in your life, go right ahead. Though I really hope it didn't take three sucky elections for people to realize they don't have to fuck guys who hate women.

if i have to see one more post about disney from people who don't work here or at least live in the area i'm gonna lose it
#saw a post that was talking about how disney doesn't actually care about queer people#and while like. yeah. i mean. i guess sorta that's true? but also they do pay for trans healthcare#for employees. btw. no other employer i've ever had has explicitly covered that in my insurance#also working here has EASILY been the job where i feel the most comfortable being trans since i came out#and where i get misgendered the least. it still happens and it's been an issue but like#overall it's better here. disney also lets me use my preferred name on everything#universal did not do that btw at universal i was forced to display my deadname to everyone at my location#so it's not as black and white as 'disney hates queer people' and i'm not trying to be a bootlicker i'm just stating these facts#that people probably don't know? at least people don't seem to know this?#but it's easily the most supportive work environment i've ever been in#and yeah a LOT of that depends on location and leadership and other things. i have trans coworkers who have struggled more than i have#but like. overall. i don't think people realize that it's actually a pretty halfway decent place to work#and yeah there's some HUGE issues but it's an oversimplification to say that it's just The worst and should be burned down etc.#and it's like yeah i KNOW it's the bare minimum but it's still more than i've gotten anywhere else i've worked#and yes a lot of it is also due to the union's hard work here and not the company itself but still#the fact that the people making posts like that clearly do not actually live here or know anything about how things work here#i'm just like. please shut up you don't even know what you're talking about#this post i saw earlier had people in the replies STILL spouting the 'disney will just pack up and leave lol and then where will the florid#economy be?' and they sound so fucking stupid like what the everloving fuck do you mean move somewhere else#people think it's a little theme park as if it's not the literal size of san francisco???#anyway i'm just in general begging people online to shut up about things they don't know shit about.#like. you don't have to have an opinion on everything. you can just. shut up.#anyway that's my ranty tags post for the day bye#win rambles

Have to share this bc I’ve been subscribed to a number of Black traveler, expat, polyglot and immigration channels on YouTube — and i am so proud of diasporans who’ve succeeded in securing better qualities of life, mentalities and identity for themselves and their families in Africa.
It’s an hour long (I got halfway thru before sharing), but even without watching all of it, this man has a true wealth of knowledge he’s cultivated in how he’s assimilated and embraced his heritage, as well as what he condemns, supports, and intends to do with and for his lineage.
