Went swimming again tonight. I brought a few friends.

Midori is eager to try out the pineapple pool float.

And this time, Icky the Bat wanted to come swimming, too!

(For my fellow doll enthusiasts: this is a mini pool float that has a plastic bottom. It's designed to hold a drink or a pool speaker. So, no, my resin kids aren't getting wet in these pics.)

I forgot to take pictures at the BJD meet-up yesterday - oops! But it was an amazing time. We met up at Ikea and the vibes were 100% on point - everyone was so kind and accepting and no one minded that the only doll I brought was my naked and blank Dream Valley Shell because I was too tired to try and pack up any of my finished dolls and just grabbed the one on top. 😅😂🥰

D👗 helped me figure out what types of clothes would fit her, and L🧶 promised to help me learn to crochet, and we all agreed that we should hang out (beyond doll meets) because we're a whole group of queer dnd nerds who love BJDs, anime and video games. It was so cool getting to see some of everyone's dolls and has totally kicked my butt back into gear to get back to work on my doll projects. ^^;

Then last night was the community event I organized for our Condo association; a night swim and a movie at our swimming pool! We showed Jaws because that seemed appropriate for an after dark pool party. 🦈

We had a decent turnout, lots of snacks, and despite the fact that the pool was COLD AS FUCK - we had a great time!

I've seen pictures of bjd in water. I'm getting mixed answers on the internet, so I was wondering if you could put bjd in water? Thank you!

Yes, plain water will not harm your doll. I would be wary of pool water, because of all the chemicals, and river/ocean water might have dirt and bugs. Now that being said, what i find most people cautioning against is not letting the doll dry properly. If the elastic gets wet it can mold, and/or loose its stretch, the same with the elastic channels. if you do submerge your doll as soon as you can disassemble the doll and let it air out. If you want run a pipe cleaner through the stringing channels, to help get rid of excess water, and/or dirt.

I just put Little Rebel Kamu on layaway. I already have two bodies and a head on order, I did not need another head. Which I've told myself will just have to share a body because I'm running out of space. I've really thrown myself into this hobby lately, trying to fill a hole in my life. It's not doing my wallet any favours but there are worse addictions I suppose. But the whole recast thing has shat the bed. Honestly this guy is like a supervillain - but not the good kind of supervillain like Loki or Magneto but the obnoxious kind you wish Deadpool would wipe out quickly with a quip. And how did he get where he is? Buoyed up by people who don't give a shit about anything but themselves. Oh they all have excuses about why it's okay for them personally to support this theft (because it's not //really// stealing, is it?) and their individual contribution is just a piss in the ocean. But it's not just one person. Thousands of you. And it's not an ocean, it's a pool. Buying recasts only works if there are enough people buying legitimate dolls to support the artists - basically you become a parasite. It's up to other people, not you, because, I dunno, I guess they're wealthier than you, their needs aren't as special or important as yours. So I'm not here to bully or harass recast owners, I'm not your parent, not my job to teach you how to do the right thing. But I do think less of them. Because our values are different. Our actions have an impact on the world. By supporting recasters you support people who make cheap copies. I support artists because they create. Without them, there's nothing. And seriously how can you be pro-owner anti-recast? That's like being pro-omelette, anti-egg breaking. I am pro swimming but anti water. But it's true, picking on recast buyers isn't going to solve anything. You won't seem right, you'll seem mean. And they'll just run off back to their recast supporting friends to get justification. So, you know, be kind and tolerant. Like they're your racist grandma you're hoping will one day come around to a modern way of thinking. So if you are pro-artist, be pro-artist. If you can afford it, go buy something. If you can't, share pictures of your dolls. Bjd owners can get a bad rep of being catty but honestly I haven't found that. Most people have been friendly and helpful.
