A3Day Extended Commentary: CL “ALPHA” (2021)

DISCLAIMER - An Album a Day is my exploration into the Korean music scene. This blog, just like my podcast, will cover mainstream, indie and some underground artists within the scene and provide both factual and opinionated commentary. The biggest benefit to sharing my thoughts this way is that it will hopefully expose you to more great music and exploration of your own.

I have -- WE... we have waited, Blackjacks and GZBs.

Arguably one of the most long-anticipated solo returns in all of K-pop, multi-hyphenate artist Lee Chaelin (CL) globally released a full-bodied, 35-minute album entitled “ALPHA” on October 20, 2021 from her own label, Very Cherry, in conjunction with Sony. And y’all, it sounds like nothing we have ever heard from CL before.

Let me fangirl for a minute. MY BITCH IS BACK. LONG LIVE THE QUEEN, PEASANTS!!! WHEW!!! *Gross sobs* WHEWWWW BABY WE WAAAAAAITED UGGGGGGHHHHHH. We ain’t know what the hell to expect, CL? Eh? Not a damn clue? Tracks been all over the place for years, not a damn clue of what to expect was really revealed! HOW’D YOU HOLD THE HAND FOR SO LONG?! THAT’S ALPHA SHIT, I’M GONNA VOMIT FROM ENTHUSIASM~~~

*Clears throat.*

Distance was made fully from idoldom. This is undeniable. She is not under the thumb of the machine (that once was and is now reorganized), that of the Big Three. She is not on the fence between artistic representation. She is 30 years old, and anyone who’s lived long enough to get into and/or surpass this decade of life knows that you step into your cu- I mean your self awareness, in new ways. If you missed the memo when she did “Hello Bitches” and “Doctor Pepper” (both in 2015); and if you missed per-my-last-email reminders with everything that was done from then until now, well... mama’s letting you know for damn sure that she’s grown-grown.

The track list, as listed from Wikipedia, is still updating credits at the time of this blog post. I believe it’s always important to give a nod to the team behind the vocals, ya know? The song lyrics, the rap verses, are nothing without a composition to suit it and talented ears to engineer the sound to perfection.

In context of sound, “ALPHA” is warm and structured nicely. There are production choices that are boomy (big on low end sounds) and boxy (big on midrange tone) but this album moves, bish. You’ve heard me talk about musical movement before but for the unacclimated: each performance -- both CL and music on its own -- emotes. There is a feeling that ebbs and flows appropriately from one track to another. Structuring an album to ride from start to finish without skips is already an art as it is, so you can’t fail the artist and the listener by tossing any ol’ shit together, especially pieces of work from an artist notoriously known for using her mother tongue (Korean) with her second language, English. “ALPHA” wins in this area.

As far as the artist goes, CL doesn’t depend much on low octave vocal stacking, as she maintains the same level of vocal power and tone through most tracks we’ve heard her on over the course of her 14-year-long career. However, there are moments of nice effects on the vocals. So let’s get into these tracks, non-Korean speakers. I won’t talk too-too long, I don’t want to impede upon your own vibes.

1. Spicy -- fun to nod your head along to and say the bits of relevant English

Albeit that this is the first single consumers received from this album, it’s the third we’re familiar with. Much like its sibling “Hwa,” it was a choice. Truth be told, this song ain’t for Us (a...every song isn’t for the majority or other minority groups in other countries, lol) and I respect the hell out of that. It’s for the Asian community, specifically South Koreans, to feel that swag, that drip, and all the other pop culture terms for instilling cultural pride within oneself. Bringing in Baauer to handle the production gives it that dance bass/bounce that is needed.

2. Lover Like Me -- the song on the soundtrack of your life post-breakup that you’ll later hear and memories won’t hurt as deeply

3. Chuck -- the track that you won’t understand until you read the lyrics in your own language and then go, “Ohhhh. Hmm. Okay.”

Nothing like calling out fakers. The word “Chuck” is the sound of the Korean word for “pretend” [Romanized: Cheok] and she’s being playful with the liars and fakers trying to reach her. If you’re not a person who believes err’body has at least one hater, then it might not resonate too much. When you’re 76+ listens into the album, this might be the one you’ll skip over regularly. Might.

4. Xai -- the song that CL decided to snap about grown folk activities

This is the standout track of the entire album. It’s foreplay, without an over-saturation of sex. It sounds airy and her tone is commanding but vulnerable. The vocal arrangement is relaxing and I will be replaying this until my ears bleed, thank yew.

5. Let It -- Another life soundtrack song. Insert the appropriate scene in your head from the film, TV show, or M/V you exist within

“Don’t worry! I can just flow away, always do what I feel like.” Refreshing, and about as youthful as CL sounds anywhere on this album, it has the capacity to take you back to 2NE1′s “Happy” or “Gotta Be You” (both in 2014) with the cadence of her rap, the song structure, and the live instrumentation.

6. Tie a Cherry -- the track where she’s reminding y’all WTF she is

Endurance is essential in the entertainment industry and CL’s letting you know that “no one can see what [she] can see,” as it comes to this next phase in her career. You know what? I have to agree with her from that Owen Meyer’s piece for Billboard from earlier this year, where she said, “I know exactly where I’m going, what I want to do. Of course it’s not going to be the same.” This doesn’t sound like 2NE1, past features, nor does it sound like the other singles she’s released just a few weeks before this album. This track is placed perfectly in the middle and creates a good transition for the remainder of the ride.

7. Paradise -- trap, trap, throwaway Rihanna track

Could’ve gone to Ri and it would’ve worked just as well. Could’ve gone to Migos, Desiigner, or Future and I wouldn’t have complained. As a Westerner, the production style of trap music is immediately identifiable. I’m not mad at this song at all, I can only hope that you have the proper headphones to hear this in its full glory. It bangs. The vocal refrain and the ad libs is it. “My God, that’s a paradise!”

8. My Way -- the song that she tells you off-rip that she’s doing things her way

This genuinely could’ve been named “Alpha” and I’m not unconvinced that it wasn’t the name at some point. It feels like the personification of the album’s title. This shit is gritty, features a rumbling bass, and accents the vocal effects with traditional Korean instruments. It belongs on a/your workout playlist for the days you need the adrenaline boost, truly.

9. Siren -- you think you’ve heard this song before and that’s intentional

The VOCAL ARRANGEMENT!!!! Listen. No, really listen, at least this time it’ll be easy because the song’s fully in English. You hear that piano over a gurgle? You hear how it sounds like the end of her lines travels around you? What about those programmed strings? Oh oh, that little construction sound in the back? This song was crafted to sound like indie pop tracks that you catch a snippet of in a commercial or promo video and you’re clawing to find it again. It’s beautiful, the construction of it. She’s trying to salvage a relationship but I’m telling you this is your guilty singing pleasure playlist entry.

10. Hwa -- South Korean flexing for South Koreans.

We don’t/won’t touch songs that will hit different for the core demographic.

11. 5 Star -- the unexpected summer love bop

Chile, just tell us when you and That Man are marrying and let us join via Zoom. Thank you, Tablo, for lending your pen on this one.

My Official Ranking

K-pop fans, on a scale of 1 to 5 where 5′s essential listening and 1′s not worth mentioning, the A3Day ranking on CL’s debut album is 5. While hoping there would’ve been more to the writing, the album is an impressive return that delivered nothing expected to an audience well-aware of who she is.

Okay, first off, Ghost and Tobias Forge have lore. But I'll talk about that later.

The Papa's are the representatives of the band, while the ghouls and ghoulettes are the side characters. The ones everyone else love but can't seem to have much content on.

Ghost to many people help or become coping mechanisms for people with daddy issues. It's especially apparent in the song "Kiss the GoGoat". As one of the lyrics explains dudes not giving the listener what they want and need, whilst saying that they want to become fathers to said listener.

Some Papa's are very important to us Ghesties. Copia for example is the ray of sunshine in the clergy. He's the difference as he wasn't part of the emeritus blood line. Copia is sweet, he likes to make sure everyone around him is comfortable. He's an awkward rat man. And he's special to us, he brings comfort to us.

Theres Terzo, the sex icon, if you will. He also brings comfort, but he also helps us with our confidence (mostly me). His suave nature and femininity are so entrancing, it's sometimes embarrassing to watch him because of how most of us (if not all of us in the fandom) simp for him. He's the grammy boy for crying out loud.

Papa Primo, as all of us envision is the calmer more fatherly Papa. He is shown to be sweet and try hard at being smexy-

Which is fine, we all love that for him. His garden is often showed in fanfics whenever the reader needs comfort or peace. Which is why we relate Primo to be the peaceful Papa.

Secondo is another sex icon-

We like to call him, Mr. World Wide, because of his bald ass without the papal paint. He's intimidating, but also really silly. He likes to use his voice to seduce the audience, as he has a deeper voice than the other 3. In fanfiction he is often portrayed to have anger issues and q short temper. Which many of us can relate to, even me. As the root cause of his anger is the pressure of his duties as Papa from the clergy give him stress.

Theres Nihil, the mf who keeps killing the Papa's (and seestor) he was the first Papa before Primo, Secondo, Terzo, and eventually Copia. He's the weird peepae that everyone simps for (Nihils younger self I mean). He is what drove the clergy to kill the Papa's, more specifically Seestor.

Seestor is the one who operates the clergy, the one who gives orders. She was the gf of Nihil back then, but they broke up after Nihil thought it was a good idea to kiss some random girl in the audience during a ritual-

All of these characters combined with their music, is what brings life to this band. Their lore is especially heart wrenching, as many suspect Copia will be the next in line for the guillotine.

I can't force anyone to see Ghost and force them to like it immediately, and neither should you. It becomes rude, and sometimes it can lead to manipulation. Forcing someone into an interest of yours is controlling to me, as you did so without their consent. I'm not saying your any of those, I just want you to leave people alone when they don't want any part of your interests (like dad).

Headcannon/Ficlet

Can we talk about how easily Namaari could seduce Raya???? Like obviously, Raya could do the same but just hear me out:

This bish spent all of five minutes with Namaari and was like “aha. wow. she’s amazing. lemme just do literally anything for her” like ARE YOU KIDDING??? It just cracked me up when I watched the movie how easy it was for Namaari to cause the literal definition of gay panic in this poor baby gay. Now that they’re older, if Namaari figures out she still holds that power over Raya, the girl’s done for let’s be honest.

Say Raya has specifically stated that the last piece of jackfruit was hers. She’s seated on a bench at a table, having finished her meal and about to pick up the jackfruit when Namaari straddles the bench beside Raya, facing her. Raya freezes.

Raya goes, “Namaari...” in greeting, already sweating due to the way she’s being observed.

“Dep la,” Namaari returns, in a tone that makes Raya gulp. “What have you got there?”

“Jackfruit...” Raya remembers that she is supposed to be being territorial. “My jackfruit,” she clarifies, clearing her throat and pulling the fruit to her chest.

“Mmmm, looks good. One of the riper ones, I think... yes?”

Raya nods, eyes flicking between the fruit and Namaari’s features.

“Do you think I could have just one of the arils?” she asks, finally looking away from the fruit and into Raya’s eyes.

Raya swallows again. Why was her throat so dry all of a sudden? Namaari’s gaze was electrifying and she found herself plucking one of the arils from the already quartered jackfruit and holding it up to the Fang princess for her to take.

Except, she didn’t take it. Namaari, with a maddening smirk tugging at the corner of her lips, leaned forward and took a bite of the fruit. Raya felt her jaw dropping as Namaari licked the juice from her lips, her jaw bobbing as she chewed.

“You stare, dep la,*” she murmured, taking the remaining bite from Raya’s hand, their fingers brushing.

Raya cleared her throat, sputtering unintelligibly before settling on: “Is it good...?”

Namaari smiled softly, popping the second bite into her mouth. “Very. Thank you for sharing.”

Raya nodded, heaving in an awkward breath because for the past few moments she had forgotten oxygen was necessary to function. “Y-yeah, no, of course. I... there’s more if you...”

Raya trailed off as Namaari’s face moved somehow closer to her own, to the point where they were perhaps a mere inch or two apart. Raya’s eyes fluttered involuntarily as her gaze dropped to Namaari’s lips. When those lips did not meet her own she looked back up to see that the princess had merely been reaching for another piece of jackfruit at Raya’s offer.

Namaari held up the piece as proof it was Raya’s head that was in the gutter, not her own, as she said another “Thank you” intended for the second piece.

Raya cleared her throat in probably the most awkward stuttering way she possibly could. As if that wasn’t embarrassing enough, upon trying to reply, all that came out was a squeak and Raya wanted to disappear under the table and pass away. She smiled tightly and nodded, not trusting her voice any longer.

“--KIDDING ME!!!”

Raya’s gaze snapped up as her ears finally filtered in more sound other than Namaari’s soft breathing and her own pounding heartbeat. The noise had come from Sisu who was currently stomping over to them in human form.

Raya glanced back at Namaari who’s gaze had never wavered away from her. She began to frown, confused as the absolute smuggest smirk she had ever seen graced Namaari’s lips.

The Fang princess wordlessly held out a hand and Sisu slapped something in it and stomped off. Mumbling something about “not fair” and “jackfruit” and “hungry.”

Meanwhile, Namaari had stood up. She took a bite of the aril and winked. “See you around, Raya.”

The princess sauntered off, munching away on her piece of jackfruit and leaving Raya in a state of utter confusion and arousal. Then Raya watched Namaari flick something into the air with a ting and catching it in her palm as it flipped back down.

Raya’s jaw dropped, furious this time. “IS THAT JADE?!!! NAMAARI!!! SISU WHAT THE ACTUAL FU--”

*I know this line has been used in other posts and whatnot before, but damn I had to use it because that shit is just cannon in my opinion lol

So I see all these posts on your dash about people telling you their favorite of your fics but I couldn’t find the origin post of it for rules or guidelines but I am here anyway to talk about Objectively again because it was hands down a labor of love and is one of those fics that automatically a complete movie in my brain. I can see it all so clearly as if it was on screen. I will never be over this story as long as I live.

There are no rules, it was just a post saying to drop in and talk about a personal fave!

And I won't lie. I have a very specific brand of pride in Objectively because for all the requests I write, that was one fic where I sat down to write it and I was like, "This is for one person and one person only. Other people can like it, but the only person who really matters for this fic is Cricket."

And I'm so glad that you love it so much 🥺❤

I look forward to anything you have to say about any of my stories, but that was a Cricket Story from the second I opened up the word doc for it. 😌

It wasn’t difficult living with this family, you actually really enjoyed it. You had a wonderful mother and wonderful sisters. You felt loved and accepted in their family. You have lived with the Dimitrescu’s since a very younge age. You were brought into the family by Mother Miranda, who apparently found you in the abounded village a few miles away.

Today there was also a very important meeting being held up, and mother insisted you came over to accompany her, which you happily accepted. You were now In your bedroom, getting ready, but stopped when you heard a knock. “Sister, mother told me to bring you this dress she got made especially for you” you heard Bella say behind the door. “Oh ok, thank you very much and tell mother I’m very grateful” you said opening the door and taking the box with the dress in it. “I will, also mother wants you ready in 20 minutes” Bella said disappearing into a swarm of flies. “Ok!” You said loudly but not too loud.

You opened the box to see a gorgeous emerald green dress, with a bunch of gold swirls on the front with green gems. You slowly and carefully put the dress on and then go style your hair. You weren’t really used to these long dresses, and looking very elegant. After 20 minutes, you walked down the stairs in your heels, slowly to not fall over and make a scene of yourself. “You look absolutely stunning, as always dear” you heard your mother call out to you. “Thank you mother, and I’m very grateful for this dress. Bella told me it was specifically made for me” you tell your mother with a soft smile. “Only the best for my sweet beautiful daughter’s” your mother replied back with a soft smile. “So are you ready dear?” Your mother asked turning to look at you. “Yes mother” you said, taking your coat off the hanger and same with mother.

It was early autumn, and it was getting a tiny bit chilly. You walked down the paths, walking past many trees turning all different colours to show it was autumn. It truly was a gorgeous sight to see. After a few minutes of walking, you get to your destination. Mother opens the front door to find Donna sitting peacefully, greeting you and mother, while her doll running around laughing maniacally. Moreau was quietly lighting the candles to bring a bit of light inside. And Heisenberg no where to be seen yet. After all you were 30 minutes early. Mother sat down in her regular spot, talking to Donna about how she has been and catching up. You, you went to talk to Moreau about how well he has been. After 10 minutes of sitting down and talking to Moreau about video games he has, the door was harshly opened by a heavy boot, belonging to no other than Heisenberg. Everyone brings their attention towards the man himself, looking at his toothy white smile, greeting everyone by tilting his hat a bit and walking towards his seat. “So the dog decided to come over” mother started. “Oh shut up you bitch, I always come here for meetings, usually a bit late, but today is different!” Heisenberg said glaring at her through his glasses, and then looking at you, you looking back at him with an angry expression. “What are you frowning at kitten?” He asked you. “I do not like it when someone calls my mother in appropriate names” you said with a harsh and calm tone. “But your “dear mother” has called me a dog so I have full right to call her a bitch” he said putting his hands over he chair, and crossing his legs. “Not like she isn’t right” you mumbled, loud enough for everyone to hear you, and your mother laughing quietly.

“You wanna fight or something kitten?” He asked you leaning forward now. “No, I just don’t like my mother being called harsh words that aren’t true” you said glaring at him. But when he was about to argue, Mother Miranda has arrived, leaving Heisenberg to close his mouth and groan loud enough for you to look at him.

After about an hour or so, the meeting ended. “Y/n, dear, please do me a favour and walk home. I must talk to Mother Miranda about something very important, and I won’t be coming home any time soon” mother said. You give her a reassuring smile and a nod, putting on your coat. You weren’t scared of walking home, because you knew how to fight. You could kill and fight with no problem, after all you do live with vampires. You walked out the door, and first thing you smell is the strong smell of cigar and whiskey, telling you Heisenberg was right there, and you were right. You turned your head towards him watching him smoking his cigar with a “really, here?” look. You shake your head a bit and start walking home, but before you could go you heard him talk. “I didn’t let you go anywhere kitten did I?” He asked you, you turning around to look at him. You took a deep breath and said “no.1 I ain’t no kitten so stop with that kitten shit, and 2nd of all you ain’t my parent so I can do what I want” you said with a little smile and started walking off home.

But Heisenberg didn’t give up easily. He started following you. You turn around rapidly. “What do you want?” You asked. Heisenberg just watched you. You could feel him eye you up and down even with those glasses on. You sighed out loud and started walking again, not caring that he was right behind you anymore. “You know what kitten, come with me to my factory, I wanna show u something” he said suddenly. You turned around once again and looked at him. “Why would I go to your factory?” He sighed “Come on pet, do ya have anything betta to do? No, so come over to mine. At least I’ll have some company”. The thought of you and Heisenberg being together alone made you kind of excited. You liked this man for a bit and loved teasing and annoying him, and he loved doing the same thing.

“Fine, but only for a bit” you said, letting him go in front and lead the way. It was a small walk and you got there real quick. “So here we are, my dear factory” he said showing off his mechanical creation’s. After giving you a walk through the factory, you asked why he invited you over. “Well I had a few questions” he answered, and now ur curiosity wanted to know what he had to ask. “You look curious kitten, would ya like to know?” He asked which you responded with a nod. “Well kitten, why did you chose to listen to me and come over?” Was his question first. “I dunno, I was bored so yea” you responded. “2nd question, what’s your type?” You looked at him with a suspicious look. “Why do you want to know that?” You asked. “You really wanna know kitten?” He asked lowering his voice a bit, which makes you shiver in pleasure. “I would like to know, but is it worth it?” You asked. “Well you will have to wait and see” he said. “Come over here” he said taking his glasses off and hat, and you obeying him and come near him. You could see the lust and need in his eyes making you feel warm and tingly.

“I would like to know why you want to know my type, Heisenberg” you said getting closer to him. “You really wanna know dear?” Seeing the lust in his eyes. “Yes I do” you said, a teasing look on your face. “Cause I wanna see if I’m of any of your standards dear. I'm not really one to trash other peoples interpretations of things (unless it's a real dumbdumb like it being about miss taytay unironically or some shit asdahskdj), but I don't see how that checks out really. I think when a song is about something a bit more specific, like marriage as that analysis says, he's gonna leave hints in there that it is. I don't see a hint of that in Kiwi to be honest, but you've read my analysis so you know I'm not one to go with one interpretation and not be open to the rest lol, so I don't wanna say no, just, I didn't pick up on that and I picked that fruit apart as far as I could. I don't see any theme of uh.... commitment, pride, joy, forming a bond, starting a life together, whatever you think of when you think of that. And in general yeah I do think shit's deep, but not that deep that there's some double flipflop happening where he thought it would be fun to have the first layer be a coherent concept of just a girl on the street / in a club yet also insinuating it's about babygate but WAIT actually it's beyond that and it was all a joke. They say the lyrics don't really hold up as being about babygate, but they totally check out as being about babygate for me (I made a bigass wholeass analysis so I don't think I need to explain) so I'm not sure what they see not checking out.

I just think that if he wanted to have a song that included their commitment to eachother like that it would be a positive full of energy song, like he would have gone fuck the situation we're in I'm just gonna sing about the positives and ignore all that other bullshit of us being pulled apart because bish we're in this together WE'RE TOGETHER WE MADE IT YAY and not this whole big big ass trickery of a song with a very very loud and heavy main message of someone having someone elses baby and it being someone elses business. (what a sentence aksdakj) Look at Golden for instance. There is a struggle in there, he did leave a negative undertone, yet the main message is YOU'RE SO GOLDEN YOU'RE SO GOLDEN YOU ARE SO SO SO GOLDEN. Or Adore You. Or Sunflower. Or Canyon Moon. or Sweet Creature. I don't know if it's clear what I'm trying to say but like, he could've chosen many many many ways to yell "fuck you we're committed to each other no matter what you throw at us" I just don't see why he would choose to disguise that in a babygate joke.

It works better the other way around: "I'm having your baby it's none of your business" -> "I'm taking your loved one away from you" (which is the opposite of what the linked analysis is saying oop), as in there's ~waves trying to break them~ you know. I don't think I mentioned that one in the analysis hmm.

Indeed the flightless bird thing holds up pretty well so it's nice to see they went there too.

Then for the text in that post:

He's trying very hard to turn it into something positive, and I'd say releasing a song that people love / can identify with / can have any effect on them in any way that makes them feel alive equals something positive so that's a success no matter how you view it really. But it's still coming from a place of being driven insane. In other words, it's not hard to imagine for me whatsoever this is how he really feels about Louis' most demoralizing stunt. It's like him yelling WOMAN LA LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU LA LA LA LA he's just being an aggressive shit that wants to scream and yell and this is the best he can do, he's screaming it all at us. Would there be another way for him to say how he really feels without saying it? I don't think there would. There really doesn't need to be a sneakily positive story behind this song in order to make it make sense.

I've read the paragraph about the "when she's alone she goes home to a cactus in a black dress she's such an actress" many times and I'm missing the logic there. I don't even know how to begin commenting on that one I just don't get it. Anyway this wasn't meant to trash that OP or analysis, and if they're still around and somehow see this just thank you for putting your interpretations out there and all are valid (except for people making it about kendall/taylor those can go somewhere else lol) and none of us really know and were all just screaming idiots on the internet and blablabla.

"I swear half this fandom don't actually like Ben" lmao true! Thing is though he's not likeable all the time and he can be a right old dick. But personally even if I don't like him or his actions at certain times, I feel like the broader picture is still there and I root for him because I get why he's like he is? And I can see and appreciate the softer sides of him even if they're fairly well hidden at times.

I also think some people in the fandom intellectually understand that he's traumatised and a survivor of various abuses, and when that shows in certain ways e.g. like if Callum or Lola is comforting while he's crying. But when it comes to situations like this week with Jags and Whitney, I personally think some people have struggled to understand how his trauma connects to it because it's not as obvious as e.g. Whitney's fiance dies, Gray manipulates her, bish bash bosh hit and run. Even more broadly I think it's easy for the audience to underestimate how Ben's experiences have shaped him because there's a distance created by time, his criminal actions, his (un)likeability factor, not viewing Phil as an abusive parent etc.

I don't wanna say everyone criticising him is like that btw! I'm sure there's a few reasons but I think this plays a part tbh.

i know this seems like an irrelevant ramble but i think i've realized that this is what my issue is. ppl not understanding trauma is frustrating and damaging and still pisses me off, but i feel like what actually pisses me off more are the ppl who just don't even attempt to be understanding bc underneath it all they're angry/frustrated at the show/sls and that's how it manifests itself. ppl don't like the direction ben and/or callum are going in and so the minute they (and it's usually ben lbr) step out of line they JUMP on that as an excuse to vent their frustrations and often end up saying shit that is ignorant or damaging or mean or just straight up cruel abt things that are so often symptoms of mental illness or trauma. so they're out here posting so many things and making these cruel little comments bc they can't just acknowledge that they don't actually like ballum anymore meanwhile ppl who are actually disabled/mentally ill/traumatised are sitting there reading all of these things and seeing all the people agreeing w them and it's doing real life damage to people.

is it on purpose? probably not. but that doesn't make the damage any less real. i have never forgotten or forgiven the way ppl reacted after ben went deaf. it was vile. as a disabled person who reacted very badly to being disabled just like ben did, it genuinely fucked me in the head seeing what ppl said abt him during that time. now i understand that it was partially ignorance but also a big chunk of it was ppl being unhappy bc they thought they wouldn't be able to enjoy their ship anymore bc ben was disabled (not that he hadn't been disabled before, but now it wasn't ignorable anymore).

idk there's more i could say but i feel like it's pointless. ppl don't care lmao all they care abt is their ship. which, ok fine whatever, but stop letting ur mentally ill/traumatised/disabled followers get caught in the crossfire bc you can't just admit you're not enjoying it anymore and feel the need to tear the thing down and rant about how it's 'bad writing' or 'out of character' etc etc. it's frustrating to read (which is why im never on here anymore) and speaking from experience it hurts YOU in the long run. negativity breeds more negativity.

So actually my sp who is celebrity is very very older than me . Like we have a age gap of 12 years. 😥 as said i am minor. I decided to manifest him when i am 18 . But sometimes i get impatient but then i feel a bit upset and it's not legal to date a minor. Plus he lives in korea . As i have indian parents they never will allow me to even fly to korea. And even if we get in a relationship . They will never like him. Tho my mother is into the group (he is in a group ) she won't ever. As being in india , india is pathetic country with bs Trash . They ( the group is seen as bunch of gays) and most hurting thing is lgbtq is not accepted in this fuking country . Ppl tread them as trash not human. They get so much discrimination ( most of them are transgender ) and hate . Like they have to live together because thier parents disown them and stuff. Makeup is gender less. But in this country men have to be men. like all the fking indian celebrity don't ever wear makeup (males) . (Not gonna lie they all don't even have clear skin like korean ) Skin care is not menly . Men shouldn't do it. The mentally in this country is fucked up.

Everything is so hard

Hey! Thank you so so so much for reaching out to me! I really appreciate you coming to me for advice! Don’t worry, your English was fine!

*I'm going to begin this post by clarifying that whilst it is possible for you to manifest anything in your reality, I do not encourage you manifesting this person if you are underage and they are much older. You have said in your question that you will not manifest them until you are 18, which is good, however I will just make it clear that this post is to help you manifest the other circumstances in your reality, and not the person or the age gap.*

Let me start by telling you I obviously haven’t experienced this as intensely as you have as I live in a country where people are much more open-minded about sexuality and ideas of masculinity, but I have stories to share with you from my own life that are very similar to what you want to manifest! They might encourage you! (PS, these following stories all took place from when I was at the age of 19 and up.)

(This story is before I knew about manifesting). My parents are very strict and traditional and I always wanted to go overseas to study in a specific country for at least a few months. My parents forbid it and I never would have been allowed to go, but I wanted it so badly that it was all I thought about and dreamed about! I started watching a TV show set in that country every single day. I even learned the language for fun. I somehow manifested it, because the next year, I took a semester off university and I went to that country for 3 months to live. So no matter what your parents say, you can 100% manifest this.

I had a celebrity crush in that country and I wanted to meet him and be with him SO BADLY! I didn’t know about manifesting until afterwards unfortunately, but guess what? I manifested seeing him MULTIPLE TIMES on the street, because I constantly thought about seeing him there and bumping into him! I even messaged him once and he responded. I also had one of his best friends on snapchat because I met him when I was there lol. I never got the celebrity crush because I focused too much on negative things. If I knew about manifesting, I would have gotten what I wanted.

My (specific person) SP who I am currently dating is actually someone who my parents also didn’t approve of for a long time because of sexuality and he is not stereotypically masculine! They also kept telling me negative things. The good news is that now my parents accept him and are happy for us!

Thank you for giving me the background information on your circumstances, it helps me understand your situation much better, and it also shows me how you’re thinking about the situation as well, which is the most important thing.

The beliefs you have are these:

Parents and other people not approving of the kind of people you are interested in.

You don’t think you can go to Korea for a long time

I’m happy to tell you that YOU CAN CHANGE THIS SITUATION!

As I said in the beginning, the age gap is illegal and should not be manifested. So as a result, you should begin with your beliefs about your family's negative opinions and your ability to travel in the future.

You need to stop mentally reacting to what they say when it’s negative about men who are not stereotypically masculine etc, and also when they say negative things about you ever traveling. They are only saying these things because in your mind you believe this to be true. Reality is an illusion and you need to know that if you really push through and persist, even if it feels extremely difficult, you can change this!

You should start by affirming your self-concept, something like this (you can also affirm in your own language if you prefer so it's natural to you :) whatever is comfortable for you!)

I am capable of anything!

I am a master at manifesting!

I always get what I want easily and effortlessly!

Everything always works out how I want!

Then I want you to affirm for your circumstances:

My family is always extremely accepting and encouraging!

I’m so happy that I’m going to Korea!

If you find it hard to visualise you can just affirm. I know you may feel like you’re bad at it, but if you practice it will get easier. Set a timer for 5 minutes and say your affirmations over and over! Make sure you don’t have any distractions. Focus on them. Do this several times a day, every day.

Also, if you can get the app ‘ThinkUp’ record yourself saying your strongest affirmations, and listen to them at night when you sleep. Start with your self-concept affirmations only for maybe 2 weeks! Then you can add your other affirmations.

Your goal is to change the way you feel and think about yourself and what you are able to do, your surroundings and your family’s opinions. Start with these things. Really persist in them.

How I draft so quickly

Helloo and welcome to brand new type of posting! Before I first started my account I LOVED it when writing accounts did posts on a tumblr format so here I am, being a basic bish :) Anywayy, the point of today’s post is how I draft so quickly. I never considered that I did until I actually did the math and realized I wrote 73k words of my second draft in 45 days and then 10k words of my 4th one in 5… so yeah. Enjoy!

Have a writing schedule

I know they’re annoying, BUT they work. As I’m sure many of you have seen me whining about on my stories, I spend most of my time studying or doing homework (as I should be doing now lol). I’m a senior in high school with only three months of finals left to graduate, so where the f do I get so much time?

Basically, I have two different writing schedules. On weekdays, I try to write at least one sentence before I go to bed. I’m usually very tired by the time I’m done with school work, so I don’t force myself to get out 1k words in one sitting. Sometimes I’ll even squeeze in some writing as soon as I get home, but I’ve found that I waste a lot of time when I write in the afternoon.

Then on the weekends and breaks I write twice a day: one before breakfast/shower and once after lunch/before bed. This way I write anywhere from 600 words to 3k because it tricks my brain into thinking I’m writing in two different occasions.

Have your notes everywhere

This sounds kinda stupid, I guess, but I recommend having your notes everywhere you go. I’m not a very organized person, yet I keep everything WIP related on my notes app on my phone. This way if I’m on recess, or in line to buy lunch or I’m somewhere I’m not doing anything, I go over my notes. This sort of helps awaken my brain and give me ideas and motivation.

Along with this, if I DO get an idea while I’m outside of the house, I write it down no matter how small. This is why I like using my notes app. I always have my phone with him, so even if I’m at the supermarket I can write down scene ideas or character related thoughts.

Listen to music

I listen to music ALL the time. At school, in the car, studying, etc. If I can, I’ll put on songs that specifically remind of a certain character or ship. For instance, on this draft I’m focusing more on my MC and her relationship so my two main songs I try to listen to are I Still Love You (can’t remember by who) and any Olivia Rodrigo song. This way, even if I’m not actually listening to that music, the songs are stuck in my brain and they help ignite ideas. Many of my scene ideas come music.

Getting stuck

Getting stuck is normal. I remember the reason my first draft took over a year to write (which is okay, by the way) is because I constantly got stuck and had no idea what to write. If you don’t like outlining, have at least a vague idea of what scene you want to write. If your character is say, at a ball, then start simple. “The stench of sweat released by the crowd of people made the princess want to die.” It’s a random sentence, why is it so hot? Why does the princess hate this smell so much? Where does she wish to go instead? Random sentence starters help tons.

Write badly

Sometimes we get this idea that we ALWAYS have to write with pretty, flowery language but honestly that’ll slow you down. Don’t be afraid to write terribly, you can edit later. If you get stuck on trying to find the write word to describe someone’s eyes, you’ll never even get to describing their motives or importance. Just write “the eyes were blue” and move on. You can think of a better way later.

My biggest weakness: reading what I wrote before. I’ll either get distracted because I want to gauge my eyes out or because I’m in awe that I was capable of creating something so good. Read if you have to the last paragraph you wrote to get context, but never more than that. You’ll go down a wormhole and chances are you won’t write anything if you do.

The start

If you’re starting a draft and want to write quickly but have no idea where to begin, skip the first like. Write where you actually know what to write. Skip whatever you don’t feel like writing and you can fill in the gaps later. First lines are important, sure, but they are not worth staring at your laptop for 5 hours when you could’ve written 2 scenes in that time.

Headcanons + Making this to replace my old headcanons post.

Disclaimer: JUST GOING TO SAY NOT EVERYTHING I GIVE THEM IS SOMETHING I AGREE WITH! like Some characters will have a headcanon that’s more because I can ACTUALLY SEE Them enjoying an activity but even if they do I DON’T their are things that these characters would do that I DON’T think anyone else should do EVER!

Asch

Has a safe space in his room where he can be himself. It’s a place where He gets to let his guard down. that is his earth room

Has a tendency to be more attracted to those with a darker tone then him. then again its not really hard to have a darker complexion then him. (Regardless of race someone could have a tan or something, or just be a bit darker than him.) He himself hasn’t noticed this and probably never will.

Mirage sleeps in his room

If Rhys somehow got really sad and mopey he’d locate that ice cream truck and angrily threaten the ice cream man to give him all of the ice cream or DIE. Or he’d just want the entire truck, & if no one stopped him then he’d throw it through Ava’s window into her apartment.

Sometimes late at night when everyone’s sleeping & Asch can’t, he summons Rhys to his room and forces him to read him a bedtime story. Rhys used to do this when Asch was younger as well. He really likes Rhys’s voice.

If he was a human he’d probably be some NEET gamer who spends all his time roleplaying on World of Warcraft or something and he’d always rage about bad plot points or game mechanics in Anime & Video games.

He is quite FOOLISH to believe this however. :) after all Rhys is working with Lady Grandma.

He once dared Leif to eat a cactus after getting particularly angry in a game of truth or dare

Him and Rhal never get along ever. They always yell it eachother, and get into arguments.

Rhal has far more Knights than Asch

As for Lady Bish. Asch is completely indifferent towards her.

Often reads to Asch because Asch has a harder time reading. Him and Asch went to school together when they were younger and thus have a closer bond than the others. ((Lady grandma forced Asch to go))

Back on Daemos before his snap he’d actually be alot kinder to Noi, ((IN the first 4 episodes whenever Noi got hurt he was the only one to ever show any concern. I find that interesting in contrast to how he threw that out in some of the later ones. )) He’d often be the one that consoles noi or talks things out with him.

Leif is more aggressive, energetic and far more cruel in more docile environments. He becomes much more empathetic, & Calm in hostile ones. ((Like that time where he actually got on Rhys’s case for being too hard on Asch, or the times when he was like “Hey are we actually going to let Noi die” and offering to heal Noi when he was writhing in pain when they came to earth. ))

He’s actually more perceptive then he seems, he cares about those around him NORMALLY its just going this long without killing anything is maddening for him. HE NEEDS TO KILL. to let it all out, once he does he’ll act as he normally does.

He was the only one even remotely kind to Noi back on daemos, that changed when they got to earth. (besides Pierce. )

Though due to his normal lack of empathy in a world where he’s human he’d probably be one of those people who just don’t care about how what they say affects those around them. Doing and saying whatever he wants regardless of how others may interpret that.

He LOVES Skullgirls. He really likes the character designs and the fact that double always has organs or something hanging out.

He also loves all horror movies and video games where he gets to cause mayhem; Like Saints Row, or Grand Theft Auto!

He’d be the only one of the daemos that is fully accepting of the weird side of the internet. You know the WEIRD side. He’d be into all of the bizar kinky fetishes you’d find on Furraffinity you just know it.

He doesn’t actually like Ava he more-so see’s her as a trophy? I mean well he DOES but he’s mostly in the whole fight for her thing to win a prize. And she’s the prize. ((Well at least before the newest episode))

The most Physically affectionate of the daemos even more so than Noi

He’s also far too stuck up in the idea of a powerful princess loving him a lowly peasant a low ranking knight someone who.....who wouldn’t be worth anything to her.

If they were to find out about ALL of Ava’s lies he’d take it the 2nd hardest. Asch would be the first, Rhys the 3rd. Leif the 4th, & Pierce the 5th.

Mostly because the only reason why she chose him, the only reason why they went on a date wasn’t because she was interested in him but because she didn’t want her cover blown. He thought she actually loved him not to say she doesn’t care for him but-...he thought she WANTED him you know?

She wouldn’t be a powerful princess, she wouldn’t be a cool sorceress, she wouldn’t be this big thing that he wanted so much she’d just be herself and then Noi’s fantasy would crumble.

✩ How I Run My Blog! ✩

Speed:

Slow As Hell, for the most part. True, there are times when I yeet replies out because me and/or my muse are ridiculously invested in a thread, or inspiration instantly strikes. However, my default tends to be Really Slow. Something I try to make prominent to everyone since I understand some people prefer to not wait months at a time for a response- which is something I often end up doing. For a variety of reasons: be it because muses are fickle, it tends to take hours at a time for me to craft replies, I literally have hundreds of threads... As a result of this, I don’t drop threads too often either? Usually, they're lingering in my drafts, and it isn’t uncommon for a hella old one to suddenly be thrust onto the dash.

Of course, I never expect people to reply to Old Threads if they don’t want to, and don’t mind either way! I just like offering a response so I didn’t just abruptly drop it. :3 But yeah, I am a very slow roleplayer and while I hope my writing is decent enough to be worth the wait, I’ve had experience interacting with others who obviously prefer things to be quick and constant. Which I am not. Not delving into THOSE experiences because yeah- They weren’t the best. lol But I just want to make it clear that my speed does not equate my interest in a thread or in interacting with others. I am just a hella slow person who wants to write about birbs.

Replies:

My replies tend to get L O N G. I am not adept at short threads, and even ones that start out as really small back-and-forth replies are pretty much guaranteed to get longer on my side within a few responses. My muses like to get introspective and I like to get descriptive- I’m talking several paragraphs before they start to talk or even get to the point where they aren’t thinking-about/reacting-to whatever your muse did in the last reply. XD I’ve noticed that my average seems to be three-to-five paragraphs, but it isn’t uncommon for me to break the double-digits at times. Of course, I never expect my partners to match length and as long as I’m given more than a couple sentences in return, it’s all good.

Starters:

Whenever I add a new muse, I often post a Starter Call for them. They tend to vary in length, but are often two-to-three paragraphs long because I’ve tried to make single sentence ones and it never seems to work out. Occasionally, I’ll throw out random Open Starters when inspiration or a random idea strikes. These starters are free for as many people to respond to as they want, and are ALWAYS open regardless of how long ago I posted them.

Inbox:

My Inbox is always open and I am constantly reblogging RP and Ask memes for it. However, again I shall bring up my Turtle-Like speed because my asks do tend to snowball. Right now I have 966 asks, so it’s no surprise that sometimes they can get lost in the pile. But I have a habit of answering random ones whenever threads aren’t working or I’m in a mood for something specific that a reply won’t give, so that’s why I continuously reblog things. I like having a healthy stash of stuff to answer when needed. So don’t be surprised if an ask you forgot you even sent is suddenly popping up onto the dash. XD

Selectivity:

I am semi-selective, meaning that while I am willing to RP with people I am not technically mutuals with, I won’t RP with everyone. I’m not trying to discourage people from approaching or make anyone feel poorly, there are just certain writing styles that I tend to gravitate towards and click more easily with. For example, if I notice that someone’s blog is filled with a surplus of one-liner back-and-forth, uncut replies, chances are I’m not going to follow because I don’t want my dash constantly cluttered. Maybe I’ll RP if they approach and give more than single sentences in our threads, but I’m not going to automatically promise to interact with everyone. Because I did that before and honestly, it’s not fair to me or the other person if I’m not actually enjoying replying to a thread.

I don’t take graphics or Aesthetics into consideration when it comes to following or interacting. After all, what is important is the writing and the fun. :3

Wishlist:

But if I have to state some specific things, I suppose that right now I’d enjoy threads in some of my AU verses. Specifically, the Siren AU for Fenton because I LOVE that fluffy fish and it’s a shame that I don’t often get to write in it. Another AU that I like is the Robo AU for Louie, and I’ve rarely used it as well. Not to mention, his negaversion Louis is a precious boi who I definitely wouldn’t mind more interactions with. Oh! It’d also be cool to have threads that take place when my muses are kids- particularly: Fenton, Gladstone, and Mark.

Or threads that take place during College/Teen years. Again with: Fenton, Gladstone, and this time Imma throw Panchito into the mix. Some College Caballeros, perhaps? Some Fenton-still-with-his-assnugget-bf Angst? Some glam-rock-phase Gladstone dealing with the jealousy of his peers, the still-lingering guilt of having ‘killed’ his parents, and crushing on his nerdy best friend all wrapped up in the facade of Teen Drama? JNFFJKSDFNDSF...

Honest Notes:

As well as being slow with Replies and Asks, I am oftentimes slow with my IMs. This is nothing personal against anyone! I just get overwhelmed at times and have the memory of a potato. Which means sometimes I’ll think I replied or just flat-out forget until days later. Plus Tunglr LOVES to screw with my messages, so more often than not I’m not even alerted of them until hours upon hours later... Long story short, I really do enjoy talking with all of you and love getting messages from my friendos. Seriously, I don’t mind if when I’m flooded with them. It just sometimes takes me a bit to gather up enough energy to reply coherently.

Random Side Notes:

My blog is pretty messy and while I’m trying to whip up bios that are more than just notes for my own benefit hastily scrawled down whenever I was in a muse-adding frenzy, lots of info about my muses tend to either be in my own head or jotted down on the random Headcanon posts I sometimes throw into the wild. XD I also have a habit of analyzing the HELL out of things when I get excited, so long-ass posts like those sometimes pop up as well.

Speaking of excitement, there WILL be times when I gush about the star of this blog- *motions at Fenton* and everyone must Accept That. Because he is my FLUFFY SON and I shan’t apologize for loving him with every fiber of my being. X3 Sometimes I’ll go off about other characters too, but more often than not it is HIM. OOC posts are a thing too.

Sometimes inspiration comes in bursts and muses take over the blog for a day or a few- like right now, how Fenton is dominating everything. My birbs are fickle bishes and I’ve learned to just let them fight over who is going to get the attention, then roll with whoever wins. This is why I encourage people to interact with as many muses as they want and start as many threads as they’d like. That way, no matter which muse is strong or what kind of thread I am in the mood for, there’s a chance something will Work With Me. Besides, I’m always up for new threads and ideas, regardless of how many things we are juggling already.

That being taken into account- Please understand that I oftentimes don’t know WHO the Hell I’m going to feel the muse for or WHAT threads they will be. So no rushing or nagging for replies because all that does is make my muses drag their feet. :’3

Fanfiction Ask Game

Posting the ba test kitchen ask meme recently, I was reminded that I dislike waiting for people to ask these questions, so again I am just answering in full! This one is by @wornquillsandspilledink, so as always if you want to reblog, please do so from the OP.

A: How did you come up with the title to [insert fic]? Okay, so maybe this one will have to be asked...

B: Any of your stories inspired by personal experience? Not so much my full fics, but a lot of the tumblr ficlets for sure. They’re a great way to process emotional hardship or confusion. Pretty much anything to do with mental health headcanons are inspired by my personal experience.

C: What member do you identify with most? Lena, for some reason. We have very little in common, but she’s who my heart went “that one” and somehow feels most like my emotional state.

D: Is there a song or a playlist to associate with [insert fic]? I can officially say that I don’t have any specific playlists to accompany my fics, but I do use playlists to get the mindspace of a fic I’m writing.

E: If you wrote a sequel to [insert fic], what would it be about? this would have to be asked, I guess. I could extrapolate sequels to almost anything, so...

F: Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it. Like, anything from Making Waves. It’s the pinnacle of difficult but mature adult conversations.

G: Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order? I try to start with a primary action, from which everything else flows towards the finish. But I do jump around if I find myself struggling with a certain part.

H: How would you describe your style? Emotional. I tend to write character-driven stories, even when there’s quite a bit of action. It always comes back to the quieter moments where the characters are processing internally.

I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)? I wouldn’t call it a guilty pleasure, but if I don’t catch myself, I have a tendency to turn ANYTHING into a whump fic. It’s a problem.

J: Write or describe an alternative ending to [insert fic]. Oooooohh... ask me this one-- if you dare.

K: What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come up with? Y’all will have to tell me. I’ve written a lot of angst, and it’s a stiff competition between character death and a permanent supercorp breakup.

L: How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting? Lately? Zero. In my prime I was doing two revisions before posting.

M: Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care to share? Only a hundred billion thousand.

N: Is there a fic you wish someone else would write (or finish) for you? Noooooo... because that runs the risk of it being done wrong. What I need is for a story to spring fully formed from my brain like Athena emerging from Zeus’ forehead.

O: How do you begin a story–with the plot, or the characters? I guess it’s characters? But more specifically, it’s usually a single spark of an image or snippet of document around which everything else forms to make it happen.

P: Are you what George R. R. Martin would call an “architect” or a “gardener”? (How much do you plan in advance, versus letting the story unfold as you go?) “Architect or gardener” bish just use plotter or pantster like the rest of us. Shorter bits are pantsed, longer fics are vaguely plotted just to keep on track.

Q: How do you feel about collaborations? I think they are the pinnacle of creative expression. To see two artists working together to manifest a joint vision is just *chefs kiss*

R: Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence? Oooooh... There’s one writer in the stargate fandom that really made me want to step up my game. Rachel500 had an ongoing companion fic that had chapters to accompany every SG-1 episode that read like a goddamn novel. I’ve read it multiple times and was like “that. i want to make stuff like that.”

S: Any fandom tropes you can’t resist? Whump for sure. Hurt comfort.

T: Any fandom tropes you can’t stand? Certain pet names. In this fandom the worst offender is Maggie Sawyer’s “Little Luthor.” Fck that noise.

U: Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much. I’m way behind on reading, but I will say that I fall in love with any writer who builds a rich world (often found in the truly amazing alternate time period fics), and is able to really capture an image of the characters that I recognize and identify with.

V: If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose? Actually, not really. What I enjoy about reading other fics are hearing other authors’ voices. So there are plenty of fics I’d love to see sequels to many fics, I want it to be a sequel from the original author, because they are what helped made me like it so much.

W: Do you like more general prompts, or more specific ones? Depends on the mood. Some are vague, but seem to have something specific in mind, and I have anxiety trying to guess what they’re really after. But there’s something gratifying about truly general prompts where I can just run with it, and maybe turn it on its head.

X: A character you enjoy making suffer. Lena Luthor.

Y: A character you want to protect. Lena Luthor.

Z: Major character death–do you ever write/read it? Is there a character whose death you can’t tolerate? I do. Only for characters I like. I can’t tolerate deaths of characters the AUTHOR clearly can’t tolerate. It feels too gleeful, and it’s rare that there’s any kind of emotional fallout for it. If there’s a CD, there BETTER be fallout.
