I’ll be a doctor one day and all the pharmaceutical reps will be waiting in the lobby for hours begging for a chance to speak with me to push their samples to patients and I’ll have pharmaceutical companies buying free lunch for my employees every day just so they can sit w me at lunch and speak to me and I’ll also have a housewife/husband but instead it’ll be an office wife/husband and they’ll run the managerial aspects of my hospital for me . Among other things
#And that’s a VOW#Also depending on how involved I’ll be in the biotech industry maybe I’ll also be a medical director and spearhead sick research projects#I’ll def be research leaning I really do love it#But I don’t wanna do that shit on the sidelines like when I’m older I want to be directing that shit#I for sure wanna be involved in drug discovery I think it’s so fun#So many goals 😞😞#Also I’ll have a high turnover for patients and patients won’t wait forever but my staff will still be pleasant and not pushy#I also hate the red tape around healthcare services so they’ll fs be a lot more accessible#I have a lot of goals that are patient oriented I was just trying to sound conceited but it goes beyond that tbh#It’s rly funny watching pharma reps grovel but there’s more to life than being groveled for

Hi guys!
Please tell me there are some active people still here I miss you all. I just finished my undergraduate and I’m officially a biotech engineer. And I got into the graduate program I wanted - Bioprocess Engineering! I remember when I started with tumblr I was such a baby and now I have a degree?? Crazy, my imposter syndrome never let me believe this could happen 😂
I’m here to get motivated and hopefully motivate somebody back. This is a pic from this year from a class called Technology of Antibiotics.

Art from Mundus Carnis, a geiger-esque biopunk worldbuilding project by Screeble on DA.
I'm a huge huge fan of their art and writing and worldbuilding, have been for years. They did some fantastic work in a collaborative spec evo forum game I lurked.
Which have lived in my head ever since.
#spec evo#spec bio#biopunk#worldbuilding#body horror kinda#and some of the other MC designs are...not very safe for work#or life#but that's a side effect of being Geiger inspired#screeble#deviantart#god primordial evo games were so fun and cool I would love to do one with some friends#started with some incredibly basic mspaint blobs as like the original organisms and each post could add a little more to one#eventually we got sophonts and societies and shit like the Lufae and their fungal biotech#I'm using we very loosely there I contributed like three posts before I got scared lol#but god I followed the threads religiously once they got going#and I've stolen stuff from them for my tabletop campaigns for years#the Lufae especially I immediately started using as my go-to underdark-y species#which makes their alien vibes that much cooler when compared to like...an elf

I found out they’re an angel. I don’t think they know I know.
Helmsman home stuck, drawn wrong on ourpouse because also they’re @goldpilot22 my bestest friend and the most coolest person ever and I lovethem. Also like angel vibes. Because eldritch spaceshipthing + really really really nice and kind and overall the best(tm). Angel :)
I thought very carefully about the tech in this one and by that I mean. The wires are for growing the veins over so the spaceship can steal nutrients and the red glowing thing is a heatlamp. For. Heat. I used red for the spaceship parts because Fuck No I’m Not Using Magenta You Can’t Make Me. Homestuck color theory was created specifically to kill and hurt artists who’ve had the basics of color theory drilled into them by every art class ever. It’s my life’s mission to find Andrew hussie and make them pay for what they’ve done ($50.00. I think that’s a fair price)
#Helmsman#homestuck kinnie#Angel inspired#Biotech#btw if you like helmsman homestuck you’re legally obligated to go to spares blog and search ‘cadenza’ and learn all about the cadenzaverse#Also the things I regret not knowing about to include are their nifty colored eyes and sharp bitey teeth but I can live with this.#plenty of opportunities to draw spare for the rest of my life#I should draw the version of them that showed up in you guessed it one of my homestuck dreams#That was just them but troll and they had sollux’s glasses#Except I should make the glasses their glasses… which are heart shaped. Much to think about#Sorry I’m going to draw them more#They are one of a limited selection of things that give me joy

If you've ever wondered how biotech companies advertise, there are of course the usual routes like trade magazines and such, but for a brief blessed moment just over a decade ago, several companies were persuaded to try and go viral with music videos:
This Eppendorf commercial is still living rent-free in my head:
youtube
Bio-Rad really got into hyping their PCR products:
youtube
youtube
Literally no one has ever been this excited about Western blots, I promise.
youtube
Honorable mention to ABI (now part of Thermo Fisher) for the Dancing Scientist commercial:
youtube
(ETA: oh wow, TMO actually edited the Dancing Scientist out of this ad so I had to go hunt for the original. Should be fixed now.)
Do with this information what you will.
#not about that life anymore but apparently it's been haunting me lately#biotech#questionable advertising strategies#biology shitposts#Youtube

why do I study biology why do I need to read about tapeworms and nematodes when I could be reading about feminism....
#my life choices...?#i chose it because they said I'll get a “better job” but now even in biotech there's almost no chance for a well paid job :/#that curse of being interested in everything#doggie talk

OK WAIT here's a ITNL chapter 14 section that's not really spoilers. just a sweet lil section
after this is where it's more Spoilers. but for now. HERE U go. happy birthday vash & also Uhhhh @ ITNL readers I PROMISE i am working on the chapter. things r just hard lol
#speculation nation#itnl shit#spoilers bc of uhh. Conversation. i wanna keep the conversation a secret for now lol#not bad spoilers it's just better digested as a whole probably#ANYWAYS heres some more vash & kaite bro time. god im gonna miss kaite when we gotta say goodbye to him#but he's still here for now and he gets to watch vash tinker with his (very internally fried) arm#before and after this section is vash inspecting the damages & thinking of what he can do to try to fix it#which i do have a lot written. but im gonna be going thru it for accuracy & also keeping in mind the thing from earlier#the possibility that average operational power of his arm comes from vash himself rather than extra batteries#this is with the assumption that a (relatively) small output of electricity is not smth that would fuck with his lifespan#just a normal expenditure of energy. like moving his flesh muscles. just a constant lil stream of electricity that he gets from eating & w/#no need to dip into his life reserves for it. bc if he did that would get impractical.#idk im going to think about it more. i really dont Need to figure out how his arm works#but listen. ive built a robot before. im in polytech. i wanna think about wtf his arm actually Is#even if this is coming in the context of all the internal wires being blown & a bunch of shit straight up Melted#his arm is... very very blown... he's gonna be going one-arm for a While still lmao. oh well#i think it's a good thing to remember that he is in fact physically disabled. he can make up for it Especially in a fight#but it still will inconvenience him in a lot of ways. cool biotech arm is cool but also it's nice to remember that he Is physically disable#and so i am embracing it. he's tinkering with his arm in his free time but if he has to spend weeks (or months) w/o his prosthetic#well that's just the reality he's gotta live#anywyas. Here u go. snippet. that's a few hundred words so idk if this counts as a snippet but im calling it a snippet. Here You Go

Two options for a Researcher’s career
Stay in academia — explore my own research ideas, research topic closest to my heart, work on what I find the most important and overlooked BUT: have to apply for grants all the time have to switch places and universities fear of career end every time a grant does not come huge stress from too much work not enough time for actual research
Work in industry — in a pharmaceutical company in my case, contribute directly to healthcare, make direct impact, have permanent job BUT: working on ideas of other people having to keep my inventions/research a secret and not openly share so anybody could use it the topic I find the most important will stay overlooked my ideas will not be explored I am not sure if that kind of work will fulfill me
Genuinely, I am not sure what to chose now. I used to be 100% sure I want to do my own research. I am bursting with ideas that nobody else could focus on! But lately I have been under so much stress that I am not so sure anymore.

I was having a hard time writing up something for work today (a piece about computational infrastructure for biomedical research) so I started a new doc and pretended I was writing a fanfic where Osgood was explaining the whole thing to Kate Stewart as part of a report.
BAM, unblocked.
Going to do that every time now. Too bad I can’t publish them as one-shots 😅
#writer life#unblocked#kate stewart#osgood#fanfic#two worlds collide#I guess UNIT has good reasons to be keeping tabs on the biotech industry#I wouldn’t be all that surprised if some of the tech we use was of alien origin#that would explain the garbage error messages
