BTech in Biotechnology is an undergraduate engineering program that combines the principles of biology and technology. This course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to work in various fields such as genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, and molecular biology, with an emphasis on applying this knowledge to develop new technologies.
Course Structure and Curriculum
The BTech in Biotechnology program typically spans four years and is divided into eight semesters. The curriculum is designed to provide a strong foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of biotechnology. Core subjects include:
Molecular Biology: Understanding the structure and function of molecules that make up living organisms.
Genetic Engineering: Techniques for altering the genetic material of organisms to produce desired traits.
Bioprocess Engineering: Application of engineering principles to biological processes for large-scale production.
Bioinformatics: The use of computational tools to manage and analyse biological data.
Biochemistry: Study of the chemical processes within and related to living organisms.
Cell Biology: Examination of the structure and function of cells, the basic units of life.
In addition to these core subjects, students also engage in laboratory work, internships, and research projects, which are crucial for gaining hands-on experience and practical skills.
Biotechnology Courses After 12th
Students interested in pursuing a BTech in Biotechnology must complete their 12th grade with a strong background in science, particularly in subjects like biology, chemistry, and mathematics. The short answer is: unlikely but not impossible.
Scientists have intentionally and successfully revived 45 thousand year old nematodes simply by placing them in warm water. (Source)
The odds that any random parasite from tens or hundreds of thousands of years ago be compatible with a human host is quite small, but never zero.
To speculate, we’ve seen how diseases that leap cross-species can, occasionally, be much deadlier than expected; I would predict that diseases and parasites that manage to make the temporal leap would have similar calculus.
In other words: it is rare but possible for ancient diseases or parasites to be revived and transmitted in a glass of water, and they might be even deadlier to us than they were to their original hosts in their day.
Sweet dreams!
