The short answer is: unlikely but not impossible.
Scientists have intentionally and successfully revived 45 thousand year old nematodes simply by placing them in warm water. (Source)
The odds that any random parasite from tens or hundreds of thousands of years ago be compatible with a human host is quite small, but never zero.
To speculate, we’ve seen how diseases that leap cross-species can, occasionally, be much deadlier than expected; I would predict that diseases and parasites that manage to make the temporal leap would have similar calculus.
In other words: it is rare but possible for ancient diseases or parasites to be revived and transmitted in a glass of water, and they might be even deadlier to us than they were to their original hosts in their day.
Sweet dreams!

All About BTech in Biotechnology: From Classroom to Career
Biotechnology is one of the most dynamic and rapidly growing fields in the world today, blending biology with technology to create innovative solutions for a wide range of industries, from healthcare to agriculture.
A BTech in Biotechnology is a gateway to a career filled with exciting opportunities, scientific discovery, and impactful work. Let’s explore the journey from classroom learning to a successful career in biotechnology, covering course details, scope, fees, and job prospects.
What is BTech in Biotechnology?
BTech in Biotechnology is an undergraduate engineering program that combines the principles of biology and technology. This course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to work in various fields such as genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, and molecular biology, with an emphasis on applying this knowledge to develop new technologies.
Course Structure and Curriculum
The BTech in Biotechnology program typically spans four years and is divided into eight semesters. The curriculum is designed to provide a strong foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of biotechnology. Core subjects include:
Molecular Biology: Understanding the structure and function of molecules that make up living organisms.
Genetic Engineering: Techniques for altering the genetic material of organisms to produce desired traits.
Bioprocess Engineering: Application of engineering principles to biological processes for large-scale production.
Bioinformatics: The use of computational tools to manage and analyse biological data.
Biochemistry: Study of the chemical processes within and related to living organisms.
Cell Biology: Examination of the structure and function of cells, the basic units of life.
In addition to these core subjects, students also engage in laboratory work, internships, and research projects, which are crucial for gaining hands-on experience and practical skills.
Biotechnology Courses After 12th
Students interested in pursuing a BTech in Biotechnology must complete their 12th grade with a strong background in science, particularly in subjects like biology, chemistry, and mathematics. Entrance exams such as JEE Main, state-level engineering entrance exams, or university-specific exams are typically required for admission into top engineering colleges.
For those who are undecided about their career path after 12th grade, it's important to consider the vast opportunities that biotechnology offers. Not only does this field allow you to work on cutting-edge scientific research, but it also provides a platform to contribute to solving some of the world's most pressing issues, such as food security, environmental sustainability, and healthcare.
Scope of BTech Biotechnology in India
The scope of BTech Biotechnology in India is vast and growing. With the Indian government and private sector investing heavily in biotech research and development, there are numerous opportunities for graduates. The biotechnology industry in India is expanding, with applications in healthcare, agriculture, environmental conservation, and industrial processing.
Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals
One of the most prominent sectors for biotechnology graduates is healthcare and pharmaceuticals. Biotechnology plays a crucial role in the development of new drugs, vaccines, and diagnostic tools. Graduates can work in research and development, quality control, regulatory affairs, and clinical trials. With the rise of personalised medicine and biopharmaceuticals, the demand for skilled biotechnologists is expected to increase.
Agriculture and Environmental Conservation
Biotechnology is also making significant strides in agriculture and environmental conservation. Techniques such as genetic modification and tissue culture are being used to develop crops that are more resistant to pests, diseases, and environmental stresses. Graduates can work in agricultural biotechnology companies, research institutions, and environmental organisations, contributing to sustainable agriculturalpractices and conservation efforts.
Industrial Biotechnology
Industrial biotechnology involves the use of living organisms or their components to produce useful products, such as biofuels, enzymes, and bioplastics. This sector offers opportunities in process development, quality assurance, and production management. With the increasing focus on sustainable and eco-friendly production methods, industrial biotechnology is poised for significant growth.
BTech Biotechnology Course Details
Understanding the details of the BTech Biotechnology course is crucial for prospective students. The program is designed to provide a comprehensive education in biotechnology, preparing students for various career paths in research, industry, and academia.
Course Duration
The BTech Biotechnology program is a four-year course, divided into eight semesters. Each semester focuses on different aspects of biotechnology, building a strong foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

So my position was eliminated during layoffs kind of except not till the end of the year, so I have a bit of time to find something and I've started looking for jobs right.
One keeps popping up about being a marine biologist on trawling boats based out of Alaska for 3 months at a time that I am very much qualified for and Jesus Christ you have no idea how tempting this is. Life on the Bering Sea.
#the pay is about what I make right now which is kind of insane and really highlights the disparity between biotech and Marine science#given how absolutely bonkers dangerous this Marine science gig would be in comparison to cushy bench scientist job 9:00 to 5:00#but by God if I was not so attached to friends and family#I would be on that fucking boat#I could leave it all behind........#msc230
